Chic Children

Contributor post from Cindy of Cynhumphrey

We often hear about chic clothing, chic ladies, and chic decorating. Seldom do we bring that down to a child’s level though. That is exactly what we’re going to do here at Christmas in July for this post.

According to the dictionary, the meaning of the word chic is fashionable style. What child does not have their own fashionable style? This is something that allows the child to show the world that they are an individual and this is what makes them happy.

I think the most important thing about being chic is not that it has to be elegant, but rather that it is remembered. It’s something stylish that the child likes. It could pertain to clothing, accessories and even decor. It doesn’t have to be strictly for the females either!

The members of Christmas in July know how to show off chic items for children! Here are a few treasures on display in some of our talented shops.

Judy Merashoff from JAMsCraftCloset says

What could be chicer than my handmade and hand painted kids’ wall art? Girl Power…DIVA…I’m not Spoiled. I’m a Princess…

Little girls will be excited to wear this chic bracelet with zoo animal beads and then have fun collecting and adding new beads to it. Just like adult charm bead bracelets, this children’s bracelet can be easily changed. The locker bead makes the bracelet adjustable as new beads are added or as the little girl grows.

Barbara of MermaidsHatbox says:

Little girls love hats. So, I sometimes make little hats for my shop or markets. That is always so much fun for me. This beautiful beige baby/toddler hat is a perfect accessory for any little girl. It has three hat bands for change. The hat bands are removable so it is possible to move the bow or flower into the correct position. Also the “bare” hat can be adorned with your own designs. It’s also possible to use the hat bands as head bands.

Sue   from Susy Sew and Sew says:

A bit of baby chic. My hairdresser was having a baby and as she had a huge dog she loved, I made her a bib with a cute appliqued dog on the front. She loved it and I loved making it so I made some for the shop. I love the process of seeing the faces get character as they are sewn. This one features a sweet brown bear face and is perfect for either a boy or a girl.

Stock Lane Studio from Stock Lane Studio says:

Our Starry Night Sky wall art series makes for chic girls and boys room decor, and this Shine Bright Printable is one of our best sellers. Inspired by our frequent night dog walks, sitting in open fields gazing at meteor showers, and memories of glow-in-the-dark star decals on childhood ceilings, every twinkle and every inch of our Night Sky background was hand designed. SLS’s Shine Bright is offered as printed or printable art.

Susan from SSFDesigns says:

A few years ago I was asked to make a dress for a little girl that matched the dress of her favorite vintage doll. This was so fun to make and the little girl was so happy to be dressed up like her doll!

Mommy And Baby

Contributor Post from Sheila and Shannon of BeadyEyedBird

We recently had the pleasure of welcoming a new little one into our family — my neice’s new baby Scarlett. As closest ‘Auntie’, I get to babysit and cuddle and enjoy all the thrills of an infant and growing baby, and I am thrilled! I loved learning about how my teamies celebrate the beloved babies in their lives and what they offer to help the rest of us celebrate; check it out!

After the birth of my son, I was inspired to create this piece after listening to the song “Carry” by Tori Amos. The quote: “here I will carry you forever” deeply resonated with me, and provided the jumping off point for this piece. Ultimately this powerful illustration symbolizes the idea that even after birth, I will always carry my son with me. A beautiful gift for new moms and a precious heirloom for children to come.

#CIJVacation – 1770, Queensland, Australia With SusySewandSew

  1. Contributor post by Michelle of EviesToolEmporium

Let’s take a vacation with Sue Kenny from SusySewandSew

1770, Queensland, Australia

1770, Queensland, Australia

1. What is your favorite vacation destination and why? Where exactly in the world is it located?

My favorite is usually one of the last places I have been. The last good holiday was a town called 1770. Yep it is a number. That is because it was the year that Captain Cook stopped there when he discovered Australia. A lovely spot, halfway up the Queensland (Australia) coast.

2.  What are several places everyone visiting this destination should see?

At this town, they offer Larc Tours which are tours held in vehicles called LARCs which go over the land and in the water (ex-army vehicles). We did a day trip to a lighthouse which was just delightful as you can go inside and climb to the top of the lighthouse (a rare experience). The vehicles driving over land and water was also heaps of fun!

Nearby is Agnes Water which is a sweet township where the beaches actually has some surf (not usual at that end of the coast).

Bundaberg is a local town and good to visit to have a nice pub lunch or visit other beach areas.

3. What special customs, traditions, geography, nature etc. are intriguing about this destination?

Lovely geography – inlets, bays and high cliffs over-looking the sea. Go out on a kayak and enjoy the water and changing wildlife and scenery. We went out in our kayaks and stopped at a sandbank where we were lucky enough to see the birds taking advantage of the bait fish that were captured in a water hole while the tide changed. Magical!

4. Where are the hot spots to eat and drink?

We camped so didn’t eat out much, but did enjoy eating at our campsite which fronted the beach in front of the inlet where you could watch the sunset into the water (photo). Everyone gathers on the beach on the evenings to watch the sunset with their glass of wine.

5. Have you been to your favorite vacation destination more than once and will you visit again?

I have been there twice now. Once when the children were little (great spot for kids) and just recently the two of us. I would love to go back.

6. What are your social media sites?

Grenadine – Pantone Fashion Color For Fall 2017

Contributor post by Michelle of EviesToolEmporium

Color trends are a wonderful way to celebrate the seasons!

According to Pantone one of the top colors for Fall 2017 is Grenadine.

PANTONE 17-1558 Grenadine

A powerful, evocative, dynamic red, Grenadine is a confident and self-assured attention-getter.

Laurie Pressman
Vice-President of the Pantone Color Institute

PantoneFashion Color Report Fall 2017

Members of the Etsy Christmas In July Team have been inspired by the color Grenadine. They have created items in their shops reflecting this inspiration! Here are a few!

 friedasophie from friedasophie says:

Grenadine reminds me of mellow beautiful summers!

I love the red crystal briolettes I used for these earrings because the facets reflect several shades of red, including grenadine. My inspiration was the romantic architecture of Italy and France which I translated into a modern style.

Dawn Whitehand from DeeDeeDeesigns says:

This bangle is made from upcycled guitar strings and vintage grenadine buttons, making it an ideal gift for people who are passionate about recycling, music or being vegetarian or vegan. The handmade gift pouch it is presented in is also grenadine in colour and is made from faux felt, so again is great for vegetarians and vegans.

I moved from the UK to Baltimore USA seventeen years and was surprised at how much bigger the robins are her:e. This artwork done in acrylic inks was done in nostalgia. I was remembering how back in the UK the tiny little robins would fluff themselves up against the cold. Their vivid red feathers stand out against the snow reminding me of home.

Later the painting was printed onto an acrylic block making this the perfect decoration for the Christmas season propped up on the mantelpiece above a roaring fire.

Crocuses are often called the first sign of spring, but in fact they’re such early bloomers that they can pop up in the snow months before spring has actually arrived. Furry Fashions

Contributor post by Julie from EveryoneLovesGifts0

I would like to know what Furry Fashions do you make? This can be anything i.e. furry cushions, furry scarves, furry slippers etc. Anything that is furry I want to see it.

What made you make a Furry Fashion? Are they popular?

Janey Gust from janeylaughs says; I totally enjoy making furry little animals because children love to snuggle up to them. They find comfort in the softness  – so cute. I have given many away for baby gifts and sometimes I stick a rattle inside of them for newborn gifts. I started out making dolls and stuffed animals for my children and grandchildren. I went on adding dresses and other fun things to my Etsy shop.  The fun never ends and it keeps me out of trouble!

Duck Plush Toy

Sue Kenny from SusySewandSew says; This is only a little furry. I have made some baby bibs with animal face appliques, like this bear. I have used polar fleece for the bear face to give it texture and add to the cuteness factor. Hopefully babies will enjoy touching and feeling the soft bear face too.

Lisajoy Sachs from saxdsign says; Here’s a cute pair of earrings that were furry at one point in its life – these are felted wool ball earrings. I make these by needle felting the wool into round balls and then I make the earrings or other jewelry out of them. These can be made in many colors, one of my most popular is royal blue like these!

Welcome June New Team Members – Part One

Contributor post by Dawn from DeeDeeDeesigns

Join us in welcoming new members that joined during June …. visit their Etsy shops, favourite some items and maybe even share some on your social media!

Hi there! I joined a few days ago and am very happy to be part of the promotions and collaboration! My name is Marijean! This item is near and dear to my heart as it is a symbol of the assurance that we are all well loved and looked after. Mary Star of the Sea bracelet is more than a pretty trinket inspired by the beautiful Florida coast and my faith; it is an encouraging reminder of familial love and faith and an homage to one of Mary’s most ancient titles. Three stacking strands of Mother of Pearl, blue Amazonite, and Freshwater Pearls conjure up images of the sea while an artisan-crafted Mary pendant, dangles gracefully near bracelet clasp closure–a reminder that heavenly help is always close at hand.

Hi everyone. The Etsy teams are such a great place to learn and meet such great people. I was referred to this team by another very supportive team and I look forward to getting to know more of you. I missed CIJ last year as I started my Etsy shop at the end of July but love the idea of some Xmas fun in the middle of the year. I have a new line in my shop of slip shorts. This is something I have had trouble finding here in Australia, so I decided to make my own. I have sourced lovely quality and soft on your skin fabrics as comfort is my number one aim. No sucking in of tummys, just comfort, modesty and a touch of pretty lace to show your feminine side. Whether the warm days put you off wearing your pretty frocks or you want to be active while wearing a skirt, these are the solution.

Hi my name is Liz and I just joined today–so exited to be part of this wonderful group. I love promoting others and one of my Etsy buddies from another group pointed you out to me. I have brand new item for this year: beaded charm ornaments for the Christmas tree, they make wonderful add on gifts for presents too, hang it on a wreath or door knob, for a little office bling /grab gift. I had so much fun designing them.

Narelle from FELTBYNARELLE says

Hi , My name is Narelle. I only joined a few days ago and put my entry into the CIJ but just realised I hadn’t introduced myself…I opened my shop 2 years ago in July I make my own felt and am addicted to wool and make almost anything I can think of that can be made from wool, Cats, Nurseries and Art are my main products so I will add my latest item I have just put in my shop this morning…Cat Caves, Toys, Collars and Brooches are only some of my varied items, and feel really happy to have found this CIJ Celebration!

Hi, My name is Valerie and I am very happy to be a part of this team. When I was a little girl, my aunt lived in Florida and always came to visit for the month of July. Since this was the only time of year we saw her, she always called it “Christmas in July”. My shop features vintage items that I have collected or inherited over the years. At the urging of friends and family, I added my own original photography and artwork. I am very happy to be a part of this team, and look forward to participating in Christmas in July. The following is on of my original fine art photos with a Christmas theme.

Hi! My Etsy shop is Gillisflowers and I’m really excited to be taking part in my first CIJ event. I design and make a unique range of mainly floral origami jewellery which goes beyond the more usual birds and fans. I research the traditional meanings of the flowers in my designs to add an extra dimension and to revive the idea of sending a message through flowers. As well as origami paper I also use paper from old books, music scores and maps. I found it hard to choose just one design so chose this one as it is a personal favourite.

I like when the people around me have a great mood! If your child is busy, what could be better? These little birds are ready to sing Christmas songs at least in July, even in December – and all for the joy of parents and their beloved baby!

Terry from MyLilCraftyRoom says
Hello, my name is Terry, and I am from Louisiana, USA. I am very excited to join your team. My shop features gift tags, address labels, thank you labels, gift card envelopes and a lot more. I love helping others promote their store and anything else I can do to help other shops.

Agnes Keh from DeStashAttic says

Hello everyone, I am Agnes from sunny island, Singapore. I have been making stuff including knitting and crochet since young. Jewelry making became my passion after I made a necklace for myself in 1996 and memadejewels is my jewelry shop. But I have stopped updating it because I am busy destashing! As I have been buying and collecting beads, especially vintage beads since I started making jewelry, I accumulated a huge stash of beads and supplies thus I am running out of storage space. So here is my destash shop to share my rare vintage finds. This is one of my rare find, vintage Miriam Haskell Baroque Glass Pearl Beads from Japan!

Hello Everyone! My name is Nikita and I am the owner and creator at ThatDreamYouDream. This is one of my Stocking Hanger designs. I am absolutely obsessed with Christmas decorating! If it could be Christmas all year long, I would be completely fine with that. So it’s been so great to be able to express my excitement about decorating with my stocking hangers. I’ve loved being able to tailor them to meet my clients styles! I’m excited to be a part of this team now as well. I’ve loved being able to learn from other Etsy sellers in the past.

maya from mayamade says

Hiya everyone! Thanks for letting me join! My shop is mayamade and my name is Maya and it is really nice to meet you all. This is my first Christmas in July and I am excited!

Louisa from OliveBella says

Hi Everyone! I’m new here and my name is Louisa from New York, NY. I just joined this team today! I make personalized jewelry and one of my favorite item to make and also my customer’s favorite is this zodiac necklace. It is special because this item is featured on this year’s 2017 Etsy Holiday Lookbook!

Roberta from FarfallaDorata says

My name is Roberta and I am a young girl who lives in the countryside, in a small village in the mountains of Tuscany, in Italy. I work mainly with the cold porcelain, but I also deal with paintings and portraits. After I started my small business on Etsy also I came my small but great successes, such as the publication of one of my products, specifically the earrings with the piglets, in a Dutch national magazine. My plan of work is my home where I cut a corner all to myself, to concentrate and give room for my creativity. My creations are inspired by the femininity but also by the nature that surrounds me. I attended a school of graphic design and I always used my free time to create and design. The realization of my small sculptures was born in the beginning thanks to some books that gave to me that showing how to create small works of art with just a few materials that could be found commonly in all our homes. At first I worked with salt paste. My creations were taking more and more lives, but with the passage of time, the yield of this paste did not make me happy. When I decided to get in the game I was looking for a more lasting modeling clay but always natural. Stumbled almost by accident in the cold porcelain is commonly called corn dough and since then I have not abandoned. I share my passion with my family who realized that I can not stay without creating and that when I go out of my room with dirty hands color, face floured and a slight smell of glue, the artist is at work! As well as my cat, the inspiration for some of my work, that keeps me company during processing.

Jessica Mancuso from GusandOllie says

Hi there Newbies! I am so happy to have found this group, what a hoot! My name is Jess and I am an Australian living in Hamburg, Germany – where I make toys and accessories for children under the name @GusandOllie. Mostly from socks, but also from fabric, both of which I collect all over the world. My shop features many sock monkeys, cats, rabbits, monsters and elephants as well as my best selling Taggy Giraffes for babies! I am hoping to add new Taggy toys to my line this Summer. I love living abroad, learning a new language and culture and spending my days discovering new things. I still take far too many photos, so you can find me on Instagram, where I post daily: www.instagram.com/gusandollie. I also have a blog : www.gusandollie.com, where I try to post 3 times a week, which doesn’t always work out. Another goal for this year. Thank you so much for letting me join your team. I look forward to contributing where I can and connecting with you all.

WOW – so many new June team members – but wait there’s more!! Stay tuned for Part Two … happy shopping!

The Twelve Days of Christmas – #CIJParty 2017

Contributor post by Dawn from DeeDeeDeesigns

We have a wide variety of Etsy sellers in our Christmas in July team, and this means we have a great range of handmade and vintage products to choose from for the 12 Days of Christmas.

I asked team members if they have an item in their shop that relates to the 12 days of Christmas? And here we go:

And here are the 12 days of Christmas!

Twelve Drummers Drumming

patontheback from patontheback says

I love Christmas in July because we’re expecting 110° plus, and I can go on a virtual holiday thinking about cool items outside my hot desert!
Twelve drummers drumming- I’ve always been a percussion instrument fan, and this fabric makes me think of not only the twelve days of Christmas, but a little drummer. Happy holidays!

The five golden rings represents the great love of God in sending a Savior. It is a very powerful day for me as I adore Christmas and Christmas time. It is a unique opportunity to remind ourselves to love each other, to help and respect everything that has life in it.

Five golden rings. 5 glasses, each has with a gold ring at the top.

Four Calling Birds

Emma Kaufmann from StudioEmmaKaufmann says

I love watching cute little robins chattering outside my window and all excited for Christmas against a stunning snowing background. This artwork was done in acrylic inks and is now available as a print to complete a festive look.

I love celebrating Christmas in July…I live in Baltimore where summers are sweltering so having a Christmas in July pool party certainly helps beat the heat!

Three French Hens

I love this Christmas song. I have a wire basket hen to go with the song.
This hen is an egg picking  asket and can be used to display Christams ornaments, flowers, wooden eggs and the like.

Two Turtle Doves

and a Partridge in a Pear Tree

Linda from LazyYVintage says
On the first day of Christmas My True Love Gave To Me….a partridge in a pear tree!
This is first in the 12 Days of Christmas series for Precious Moments. I love Christmas in July team and event. The team is a fun and motivating way to market our shops while checking out other members’ shops. I love the event as a way to up the ante in marketing during a usually slow period for vintage buying. Always helps in recognition and in sales!
Not exactly a partridge in a pear tree, but how about this “in style” galvanized bucket planter with a vintage inspired pear fruit label.

Carol Braden-Williams from SilverTrove says

This may be a stretch, but it kinda looks like a partridge.
Partridge same family as dove
