Fresh Holiday Trends for 2017: Etsy

Contributor post by Michelle of EviesToolEmporium

I am fascinated by trends. Are you? There are weather trends, work place trends, business trends, job trends, food trends, real estate trends, hair trends, fashion trends color trends and so on.

The definition of a trend is a general direction in which something is developing or changing. In college I took several classes on trends. I remember distinctly studying pre peak – peak – post peak timelines. I find trends intriguing. They pique my curiosity.

Trends unite us. Give us a common ground. A connecting point.

This article is inspired by the Fresh Holiday Trends for 2017: Etsy article on the Etsy blog.

The trends are: Trending Holiday Home Decor (The New Classics, Sophisticated Stockings, and Moody Tablescapes), Trending Holiday Gifts (Deluxe Pet Gifts, Cosmic Appeal, Hometown Pride and Treat Yo’self) and Trending Presentation Ideas (Creative Wrapping). Here are a few trend inspired items from members of the Etsy Christmas In July team.

Trending Holiday Home Decor

The New Classics

Przemila K from CanisArtStudio says:.

I am a lover of nature and I know how important ecology is to our lives. Observing wild birds and animals in nature is what brings the most joy and relaxation. I want to share my impressions and love for wild nature and animals. But for me, ecology is also important and what we do to protect our planet. That’s why I’ve designed a series of home decorations that I make from waste materials. I use wood remnants from the production of other objects: small pieces of panels and frames, these pieces were going to be burned, and I give them a new life. It requires more of my time and work because everything is completely different. It took a lot of time to match those pieces to make them a nice composed whole. That’s why each of these objects is different and unique. and my decorations are made of 100% natural materials. I hope that my decorations bring joy and happiness and make a smile.

Stock Lane Studio from StockLaneStudio says:

The stars are trending on Etsy this year and Stock Lane Studio has plenty of Cosmic appeal. Love is written in the stars in our SLS cosmic heart printable. This heart art is great year-round, but especially fitting as a holiday gift. Nursery decor, wall art or a card for a loved one, it’s very versatile. Since it’s digital, it can also be used electronically. Announce an engagement or send a message to a loved one using your downloaded art as a backdrop. Don’t have time to do it yourself? SLS LOVES to personalize, just send us a message and we can work with you. We also offer a printed version of this heart art, and have more Night Sky designs in our shop.

Creative Wrapping

Susan McCarthy from WellDressedCupcakes says:

I just added this section to my shop for custom tags for holidays and all celebrations.

I have always loved to give homemade gifts to family. I think it started way before I became an adult! I was always making or creating something and it never stopped. The 1st year I was married -we had absolutely no money. My gift to my husband was all handmade ornaments for our 1st tree. I always love trying something new – sewing, knitting and now my Etsy shop. These tags will be perfect for some of my gifts this year. I added some for my personal homemade gifts and also baking tags which reminds me I need to start planning for cookies.

Fall’s Must-Have Home Decor Trends: Etsy

Contributor post by Michelle of EviesToolEmporium

I am fascinated by trends. Are you? There are weather trends, work place trends, business trends, job trends, food trends, real estate trends, hair trends, fashion trends color trends and so on.

The definition of a trend is a general direction in which something is developing or changing. In college I took several classes on trends. I remember distinctly studying pre peak – peak – post peak timelines. I find trends intriguing. They pique my curiosity.

Trends unite us. Give us a common ground. A connecting point.

This article is inspired by the Fall’s Must-Have Home Decor Trends article on the Etsy blog.

The trends are: Old-School Glassware, Statement Wallpaper, Stained Glass, Asymmetrical Wreaths, Stylized Seating, Cabin Fever and 2018 Prediction: Wabi-Sabi. Here are a few trend inspired items from members of the Etsy Christmas In July team.

Stained Glass

Marjorie Scenna from mscenna says:

Fall is the perfect time to feed the birds and decorate your garden and yard! Repurposed vintage glassware make unique bird feeders. This emerald green glass vintage cup and saucer is a colorful bird feeder and decorative accent, use it indoors to hold potpourri or a flame less candle too!

mscenna

Mairi from mairidesign says:

Harvest time simply must have pumpkins and this one doesn’t need carving. Being made of stained glass, this pumpkin candle holder, fits perfectly into this season’s home decor trends and, with its autumnal theme and colours, is perfect for Cabin Fever to add a warm glow to a cozy, log cabin, weekend getaway. Snuggle up with some mulled wine, an open fire and enjoy doing nothing but being thankful for what you have.

mairidesign

Cabin Fever

Arlene from ThisandThatCrafter says:

I started making fabric pumpkins with the 3rd thru 5th graders last year as a sewing project in the after school kids club I volunteer for. The group has ages 4 years to 5th grade and the older kids asked for something that they could craft that wasn’t just a little kids craft. So I thought I would teach them some sewing. This was their 1st sewing project last year and was a big hit. Then I decided to make them for sale. Starting with ones for Halloween then some for Fall / Thanksgiving. They have been popular and seem to be a big hit. I feel his would fall under cabin fever. Something nice to have in your cabin to make you feel at home when you are stuck in a storm.

ThisandThatCrafter

Diana from joliefemmebydiana says:

Pumpkins are always a symbol of Autumn and it’s great to see them around everywhere you look. They are great for the entire season from September all the way to November and this little pillow is great to put in a favorite chair to remind everyone that Fall is here to enjoy!

2017 Holiday Trends On Etsy

Contributor post by Michelle of EviesToolEmporium

I am fascinated by trends. Are you? There are weather trends, work place trends, business trends, job trends, food trends, real estate trends, hair trends, fashion trends color trends and so on.

The definition of a trend is a general direction in which something is developing or changing. In college I took several classes on trends. I remember distinctly studying pre peak, peak, and post peak timelines. I find trends intriguing. They pique my curiosity.

Trends unite us. Give us a common ground. A connecting point.

This article is inspired by the 2017 Holiday Merchandising Guide article on the Etsy blog.

2017 Holiday Trends On Etsy are: All The Greetings, Greenery, Modern Farmhouse, A Fragrant Season, Pawsitively Great, Gingerbread Everything, Win The Gift Exchange, Naughty Is The New Nice, Just For Them, and Moody Hues (Nordic Snowfall and Deep Jewels).

All The Greetings

Patricia from TheOldBarnDoor says:

I actually have a Merry Merry Everything Christmas Card featuring a rather dashing gargoyle.

TheOldBarnDoor

Greenery

Mairi from mairidesign says:

I created the above design after I had been using beads, made here in the Czech Republic, with my glass jewellery and knew that they would enhance a stylised evergreen tree. I had sketched several Christmas themed ornaments in this simple, swish-curve style and chose the perfect green and iridescent glass for my final design. Topping it off with a glass crystal is, simply, the cherry on the cake – or rather the diamond on the tree.

A Fragrant Season

Tanya from socksandmittens says:

I wrote this Holiday potpourri Ball DIY post on my blog a while ago and it fits the 2017 holiday trend theme “A Fragrant Season”! It is a very easy and enjoyable project.

socksandmittens

Pawsitively Great

Nicole Bridge from MamasHookin says:

Your puppy’s on the nice list! (Was there ever any doubt?) Make sure Santa Paws has someplace to leave the treats and toys on the big day for your furry friend. This Christmas stocking was made just for dogs (although, dog lovers can also enjoy it)!

MamasHookin

MamasHookin

Gingerbread Everything

Lia Russo from Ghirlandiamo says:

For the holidays l created two small wreaths dedicated to children, because they are decorated with clay family members (crafted by me), shaped as ginger bread. But not only for children: l thought this decor could also be a fun way to announce a new baby is arriving. I have two of these decors: with one and two kids. I hope this item will work also in this way, not only as Christmas decor.

Win The Gift Exchange

Emily Tan from QuirkyEleganceEm says:

A bead embroidered seashell pin is the last thing anyone would expect to find in a gift exchange, and in a very good way at that! Perfect for someone who really wishes it were summer and can’t wait for the sunny weather to come around again.

QuirkyEleganceEm

Tanya from socksandmittens says:

Win the gift exchange with this handmade crochet bath pouf! Great idea for stocking stuffer, too

socksandmittens

Connie Lee from Bungalow42 says:

Did you draw names for holiday gifts? Did you draw the hip retro/mod one in your gift exchange group? We’ve got you covered! No worries about sizing. No worries about duplicate gifts.

The wasabi, dark teal and avocado three petal flowers engender a mod retro vibe in these dangle earrings. The hand knotted flowers sway softly on the waxed linen thread creating a floating effect, particularly fun against a backdrop of tresses.

Naughty Is The New Nice

Cindy Humphrey from Cynhumphrey says:

Show the world you know how to be “naughty” in a nice way by taking a step back in retro time with this sexy cartoon pin up girl scarf pendant! Perfect way to warm up those cold winter days… or evenings!

Cynhumphrey

Solveiga from Knitwoolsocks says:

Cheer up your cozy evenings at home with these fun socks made to look like Santa’s socks.

Stock Lane Studio from StockLaneStudio says:

Of course SLS has a Christmas card for the ‘naughty’ one on your list. This card is funny without stepping too far over the line and makes a great card for a husband or wife. As an interactive card, the mirror inside always gets a fun reaction and it’s one of our biggest hits at holiday craft fairs. Merry Christmas everyone!

StockLaneStudio

Loranesss from TurquoiseNature says:

My extremely Naughty Santa! He lives in Ukraine now but he can leave me anytime and go to another county soon!

TurquoiseNature

Just For Them

Richard and Tatiana from DesignstheLimit says:

Did someone say Monogram! We specialize in creating personalized gifts for every occasion and monogrammed gifts make the perfect touch to any celebration. We are ready for the holidays and hope you make every gift giving opportunity into a personalized gift giving experience.

Emily Tan from QuirkyEleganceEm says:

These handmade earrings feature gorgeous sapphire blue vintage lamp work beads set off by sparkling silver accents. The spider-web lace like detail on these glass cage beads remind me a bit of frost, and the colour simply takes my breath away!

This deep jewels bracelet combines metallic blue with silver and a white tassel to top it off.

Autumn Maple – Pantone Fashion Color For Fall 2017

Contributor post by Michelle of EviesToolEmporium

Color trends are a wonderful way to celebrate the seasons!

According to Pantone one of the top colors for Fall 2017 is Autumn Maple.

PANTONE 17-1145 Autumn Maple

A quintessential autumn color, Autumn Maple is tawny and russet, introducing warmth into the palette.

Laurie Pressman
Vice-President of the Pantone Color Institute

PantoneFashion Color Report Fall 2017

Members of the Etsy Christmas In July Team have been inspired by the color Autumn Maple! They have created items in their shops reflecting this inspiration! Here are a few!

Karen Hafel from timetalentjewels says:

When making a necklace it takes many beads to build the necklace but sometimes one bead can catch your eye and in this necklace, one did. To me it was the strand of Amber which to me it reminded me of Luden cough drops (funny) but that is what I thought! The necklace just captures the fall time with the shades of oranges, golds, greens with shades of purples and rust. Next best thing there is no other like it! Autumn is definitely found in this necklace and the best part its on sale! Can’t ask for any more, can you?

timetalentjewels

Kristen from KestrelCollection says:

Pantone’s fall color Autumn Maple is a rich caramel orange. Similar to a tigers eye gemstone. This necklace strikes me as an elegant accessory to show off this season’s color.

Cindy Humphrey from Cynhumphrey says:

As with so many things, I tend to create and design items that I feel are useful and needed by me. I am not one to do a lot of texting because it usually doesn’t end up being “pretty”. It usually entails a few “colorful” words being said because my phone automatically thinks it knows what I am trying to say and either my finger nails are too long or my fingers are too fat for the tiny little keys to push. Probably a combination of both.

So, having a handy little cell phone stylus attached to my phone not only dresses up the phone but also makes it much easier to text when I have to. It’s just a classy way to add some bling to the phone and solve a problem all at the same time. I like to consider it multi-tasking!

Cynhumphrey

Diana from joliefemmebydiana says:

In the autumn, we are always looking for some warm color to match the beauty of the leaves around us. The lovely change of season colors are timeless and warm. This is a great accessory with your favorite handbag and a perfect storage for your sunglasses and eyeglasses.

pam colangelo from PearlsVintagebyPam says:

I love earth colors. Mexican pottery displays earthtones. Autumn maple is found in my Mexican Pottery Collection. This bowl is a great example. Let’s get some rice and beans cooking to put in this bowl!

Stock Lane Studio from StockLaneStudio says:

Pantone’s name, ‘Autumn Maple’ evokes yummy memories of maple bars and drizzled syrup on pancakes. The color is warm and homey. I designed this Halloween printable with our youngest children in mind. The color and font make it fun with just teeny tiny hint of scary.

Patricia from TheOldBarnDoor says:

While this photo card looks rather literal, it brings forth the warmth of the colour Autumn Maple Pantone. Often in the cooler days of fall/autumn, these bright colours give us the warmth we crave and find so comforting.

Color trends are a wonderful way to celebrate the seasons!

According to Pantone one of the top colors for Fall 2017 is Marina.

Cristal Hughes from DesignsbyCristal says:

Blue is a cool color, it’s the color of the sky and sea. It symbolizes stability, loyalty, confidence, intelligence and peace.

Blue always seems to put me at ease which is why I love being on the beach in the early morning or early evenings to just sit back and watch the movement of the ocean while visiting the beaches on vacation.

I think if we didn’t have any natural disasters I’d go retire on a beach somewhere to live out the rest of my natural life!

Blue is one of my favorite colors so it’s not uncommon to find something blue in my shop. In fact, you’ll find a lot of blue in my shop!

My personal preference to jewelry is something that is light weight and looks classy. I like comfort and elegance all wrapped up in one item.

I think these marina blue earrings capture that and are a personal favorite of mine.

October – New Arrivals

Join the Etsy Christmas In July team as we celebrate October – New Arrivals.

Annie from DesignedbyAnneliese says:

I have just finished making this flip book! I was inspired by Instagram, seeing many posts on flip books and junk journals that I decided to make one. It has many pages and is great for keeping papers, tickets, tags, cards, photos and other memorabilia in or finish decorating it and send it to a penpal!

Olena from Rainbowsmileshop says:

Miniature snowmen are made of New Zealand wool. Decorated with hand-embroidered. The scarfs are made of felt. The story of their appearance is a little sad. My little son is sick. And I decided to please the child. He likes to play with small toys. I made 1 snowman with a blue scarf. My son really liked the nice little snowman. He said let’s make him friends. After all, he is bored to walk alone. So there was the cheerful company of snowmen.

Karen Hafel from timetalentjewels says:

Here is a new arrival, it just appeared today along with several other pairs. Wool felted hot pads/trivets are wonderful to have in the kitchen when lifting out those hot casserole dishes from the oven or just a hot pot from the stove. These are soft and thick so you won’t feel the heat. This is just one, they also come in pairs. They make wonderful housewarming gifts!

Barbara from HometownUSA says:

The fall colors are so beautiful this time of year in my neck of the woods. I wanted to create something, that in some way, would reflect those colors. I do mostly home decor so I decided to create a pot holder. I saw this neat color pattern for a granny square that I really liked so I made a granny square pot holder using fall colors. I loved how it turned out. I liked it so much I thought it would be nice to have some matching coasters.

Stitch Cottage Stephanie Claussen from stitchcottage says:

My new arrival is a new digitizing technique I tried in making this raised satin embroidered monogrammed towel. The hunter green thread really leaps up off the fabric in this method of embroidering the monogrammed M. I also had fun adding variegated dark red to soft pink fall leaves around the M too. I love taking custom orders and give each customer a design draft to approve their custom design, fabrics, and thread colors. Many of my customers love having their own ideas designed into a finished product showcasing their ideas. Stop by and take a peak at some of the crafts I make.

Deborah Jayne from PJsandMore says:

I started making special Christmas Eve/Christmas morning PJ”s for all my family members a few years back. Everyone always takes tons of pictures for Christmas and they make them look so much more put together. They just add color & cheer to all your pictures. Everyone loved the idea, so I decided to make them to sell also.

This set is fairly tall, but the colors & pattern make them appropriate for men or women.

Kristen from KestrelCollection says:

I found a fabulous long black necklace with chunk big beads at an estate sale. The daughter selling it estimated it was her mom’s in the early 1960’s. The beads have such a deep and shiny color you could fall right in. I upcycled them into a classic graduated pearl style necklace that is an adjustable 17-20 inches long. The look is modern and retro together I think and suits the beads well.
