The Twelve Days of Christmas – #CIJParty 2017

Contributor post by Dawn from DeeDeeDeesigns

We have a wide variety of Etsy sellers in our Christmas in July team, and this means we have a great range of handmade and vintage products to choose from for the 12 Days of Christmas.

I asked team members if they have an item in their shop that relates to the 12 days of Christmas? And here we go:

And here are the 12 days of Christmas!

Twelve Drummers Drumming

patontheback from patontheback says

I love Christmas in July because we’re expecting 110° plus, and I can go on a virtual holiday thinking about cool items outside my hot desert!
Twelve drummers drumming- I’ve always been a percussion instrument fan, and this fabric makes me think of not only the twelve days of Christmas, but a little drummer. Happy holidays!

Eleven Pipers Piping

How about these lovely vintage carolers singing the 12 Days of Christmas?

Ten Lords a Leaping

Nine Ladies Dancing

The ninth of Christmas – nine ladies dancing! These colourful dancing charms are great for jewellery design, card making, gift wrapping, bunting and a wide range of craft projects.

KATERINA ILIAKI from OnceUponJewelsCo says

Nine ladies dancing were the nine fruits of the Holy Spirit-Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness, and Self Control. This necklace also symbolizes the joy of love and freedom. Dance is an expression and combination of all of these sentiments.

Susan-Sharon Passmore from MsPDesignsUSA says

On the ninth day of Christmas my true love gave to me– nine ladies dancing. Well, we actually have 13 ladies dancing the ballet on this fun nursery quilt, but who’s counting?

Eight Maids a Milking
Eight maids a milking – need to have some modesty and comfort in these slip shorts worn under their frocks while milking the cows… I love CIJ as it makes so much sense as an Australian Etsy seller to enjoy all the delicious Christmas foods while we are in our winter.. pudding, nom!

Stock Lane Studio from StockLaneStudio says

Well, it’s a bit of a stretch, but here’s my number 8 in the night sky – if you look closely you can see the Milky Way!

Seven Swans a Swimming

This pretty swan has her baby next to her and a child. The cream and gold colors remind me of an elegant Christmas.

Six Geese a Laying

Five Golden Rings

KATERINA ILIAKI from OnceUponJewelsCo says

The five golden rings represents the great love of God in sending a Savior. It is a very powerful day for me as I adore Christmas and Christmas time. It is a unique opportunity to remind ourselves to love each other, to help and respect everything that has life in it.

Five golden rings. 5 glasses, each has with a gold ring at the top.

Four Calling Birds

Emma Kaufmann from StudioEmmaKaufmann says

I love watching cute little robins chattering outside my window and all excited for Christmas against a stunning snowing background. This artwork was done in acrylic inks and is now available as a print to complete a festive look.

I love celebrating Christmas in July…I live in Baltimore where summers are sweltering so having a Christmas in July pool party certainly helps beat the heat!

Three French Hens

I love this Christmas song. I have a wire basket hen to go with the song.
This hen is an egg picking  asket and can be used to display Christams ornaments, flowers, wooden eggs and the like.

Two Turtle Doves
One dove in each ear makes a pair of turtle doves

and a Partridge in a Pear Tree

Linda from LazyYVintage says
On the first day of Christmas My True Love Gave To Me….a partridge in a pear tree!
This is first in the 12 Days of Christmas series for Precious Moments. I love Christmas in July team and event. The team is a fun and motivating way to market our shops while checking out other members’ shops. I love the event as a way to up the ante in marketing during a usually slow period for vintage buying. Always helps in recognition and in sales!
Not exactly a partridge in a pear tree, but how about this “in style” galvanized bucket planter with a vintage inspired pear fruit label.

Carol Braden-Williams from SilverTrove says

This may be a stretch, but it kinda looks like a partridge.

Metallics!

Contributor post by Sheila of BeadyEyedBird

From the vintage metals of tin, bronze and pewter to new age steel, chrome and titanium, we can all appreciate the HUGE selection of metal and/or metallic delights one can find on Etsy. I love seeing 60’s style aluminum toaster-ovens for sale, or those luxurious napkins with metallic sparkle yarn. Some use metal clay in their jewelry-or use a little copper wire in pottery creations. We asked our CIJ Teamies to tell us about their adventures with metals & metallics. Here’s what we heard:

Kira  from TrellisLaneVintage said:

Welcome New Team Members For June – Part One

Contributor post by Dawn from DeeDeeDeesigns
The team had many new members join during June in anticipation of the annual Christmas in July event. Please join us in welcoming them to our fantastic team! Visit their shop, fave some items, maybe even share some shops/items on your social media channels!!
And here are some of our new members for June!

I joined with the intention of participating the Christmas In July promo.
I am a self-taught woodworker/furniture maker who has spent a fair amount of time and effort refining a design for a folding stool/table. In time it will be available in three heights and will be available with a matching table.
What makes it special? While it has the appearance of simplicity, the accuracy required while making put it more in the reals of engineered rather than just made. The versatility of the item is one of its stand out features. A seat, a table, a bedside, this can be all these things and more. As you can gather, I’m quite proud of the design

Hello!
I joined to take part in the Christmas in July event.
I sell fandom inspired jewellery at affordable prices. Like this expandable mermaid bangle. I’m in love with it. The resin fish scale cabochon (choose from 9 different colours) changes colour as light hits it and the crystal glass bead (choose from 16 colours) adds a touch of sparkle. Besides, who doesn’t love mermaids?!

I’ve been on Etsy since 2010, but am getting back into the promotional side of things (which I’ve not spent nearly enough time on lately). With the exception 2015, I’ve always participated in the CIJ sale – usually with great success!
I create pendant necklaces from recycled Scrabble tiles and have added glass dome pendants to my shoppe this year as well. Hoping to develop a following for the new style in order to have a great holiday season later this year!

Vintage pickins – #CIJParty 2016

Contributor post by Alicia from AliciasFindings

Vintage sellers have a love of all things old and timeless.

The memories these items invoke are amazing.

Here at Christmas in July we want to know “How do you decide what to pick?” Are there certain items you love, that are more in demand. Why do you pick what you do?

Dawn Whitehand from DeeDeeDeesigns says while I make ceramic tableware and jewellery, I also create upcycled jewellery, which I sometimes combine with original ceramic components.

The materials I choose are wide and varied, but I love vintage buttons, and have been collecting them for many years from many sources. Some I don’t re-purpose into jewellery because I want to keep them!!

Upcycled Gray and Blue Button Ring

Leila Valois from ValoisFelts said I too love upcycling my vintage finds. I pick things up from charity shops and fairs – buckles are one of my favourite things right now.

I’ve made a few ‘fairy windows’ with them. They have gorgeous colours and designs that inspire what I felt in them. This pearlescent one had a fantasy/scifi feel about it.

Alien UFO Fantasy Window- Miniature Painting-Needle felted brooch

Jennifer Allison from JenniferAllsion  states I almost always post vintage goodies that I would want to keep for myself (and often do…krikey!). I like to find things that I can re-purpose…give new life to…and could spend hours just browsing antique stores and garage sales for items that remind me of warm memories and simpler times. I recently found a cardboard puzzle from the 1950’s and fell IN DEEP LOVE with the graphics…knew I had to find a way to give it new life.

msmadmax from madmaxshop says fashion constantly refers to the past for inspiration. Especially today when the current forecast can be seen borrowing from a previous successful trend in fashion featured two decades ago, i.e. sequins and sparkle, romantic ruffled blouses, done up denim

Wearable fashion trends for 2016 have been inspired by the trendsetting fashions of the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s. I like to post vintage items that can easily blend in with current fashion but still evoke a trendy look and feel of yesterday…

Dana Hamant from LilybeanzBowtique said I adore the vintage look. I love to use fabrics and designs that invoke this. Recently a friend requested a planner band to adorn a notebook she had. She wanted something “vintage-looking.” I found these vintage-style wooden buttons and knew they would be perfect. After I had created her one-of-a-kind piece, my creative juices kept flowing.

Sue from MissIvyVintage discussed I have always loved vintage linens of all sorts…Embroidered, crocheted, tatted, and prints. I find a great deal of pleasure when I find a linen that at one time brought joy to a child. I find these linens especially charming and when I list, I hope the item will bring joy to another child. I have only this one.

Shelly from ShellysSelectSalvage states I have loved vintage items since I was a child. Their history calls to me and I think of all the hands it has passed through and how it was cherished before. Now I feel like I save them for others to enjoy.

I like looking for unusual items and miniatures, something that will catch the eye.

I personally collect vintage linens as I love the old smell, softness, and look. I have a huge vintage pillowcase collection and love using them on all my pillows.

Heather from ArabellaBlossoms says buttons are always popular with sewers and crafters. Vintage buttons hold a special attraction with their beauty, originality and craftsmanship from a bygone era.

I have gathered buttons for my stash for as long as I can remember. As children our Sunday afternoons were often spent playing with my mother’s button collection. She stored it in a large tartan painted biscuit tin. My stash is now much larger than that one and it is time for me to share the love-and my buttons!

toysfrom70s from toysfrom70s said my wife and I recently downsized and as the old saying goes you can’t take it with you, we’re selling off our childhood memories. Sharing the love of 1970s toys and collectibles. We didn’t realize how many people also loved some of the items we have sold over the year, the notes they send tell us we’re not alone in cherishing memories and it is rather humbling knowing we’re spreading smiles across the USA with our items.

Just listed maybe it may bring back a smile to you of childhood.

1974 Vintage Growing Up Skipper Doll

1974 Vintage Growing Up Skipper Doll

Alicia Holman from MemaAntiques discussed that we love vintage items. We love the history regarding each item we obtained. This item for instance came from a home in Orangeburg SC. This was a wedding gift given to the family in the 1940’s. The female in the home kept it in her china cabinet and never used it. She wanted it to always be in perfect condition.

Her son told us how she would fuss at the children and the grandchildren if they came near this dish. Reminds me so much of my grand parents and their favorite items.

It is so much fun. All items in our shop has a story behind it or we can tell you were it came from.

Cher Loose from LooseChipsWoodWork says when an item reflects a memory in my heart I pick it up and cherish it… we have a rule in gift giving and buying… it is if we like it ourselves then someone else will too! (and if they do not, they will return it to us and that is okay too!) example: My husband remembers the Western Electric Company in Reading PA, before it was bought out by AT&T and he even worked there for a few years, actually using a slide rule. So this is why I sell this, in hopes someone else will find someone who likes to collect slide rules or maybe put it in their pocket and show another generation how to use one for fun…. on Christmas Morning in December or in July!
