Eco Friendly Ideas

Contributor post by Julie from EveryoneLovesGifts0

Here at CIJ we wanted to know what Eco Friendly Ideas you have and share with others.

I would like to know what do you do for the economy? Do you have any eco-friendly idea to share? This can be if you recycle around the home? This could be something you do to help the environment, anything that you do that consists with Eco Friendly Ideas.

Lia Russo from Ghirlandamo says; My one-of-a-kind ring holder is eco-friendly and really suggested for a rustic wedding. It will for sure be amazing for a bride who is organizing a green wedding and loves eco-friendly accessories. Almost all the ring pillow components are natural. The basis is a nice birch slice, covered by real moss, decorated with a bunch of micro white flowers.

Pam Colangelo from PearlsVintagebyPam says; It sure is ecofriendly not to use electricity to make coffee. When camping make coffee over an open fire. You can even do it at home on your fire pit in the back yard. Here’s my great enamel coffee pot with all the implements.

Enamel Coffee Pot Blue Speckled Pot

Dawn Whitehand from DeeDeeDeesigns says; As a ceramic artist I do use a lot of water, electricity and gas. So I try to offset my carbon footprint in other areas such as growing my own food, recycling waste, and reusing rather than disposing as much as possible. In my shop most of my products are ceramic, but I also have a range of jewellery made from upcycled materials created from a range of materials such as buttons, beads and fabric. I also make jewellery from up-cycled guitar strings. My partner plays guitar and is frequently changing the strings and they are such a shame to throw away, so I make jewellery from them – earrings, necklaces and bracelets!

Guitar String Ring Eco Friendly

Arlene from ThisandThatCrafter says; I make “Eco Friendly” gift tags… These save me money because I do not have to buy gift tags… I just make them from old cards OR the cardboard backing in a package that would just be thrown away I use in tags. These are great for anyone who wants to buy Up Cycled or Eco Friendly because they are made of things that would normally be put in the trash. I am reusing sources instead of buying new.

Mom Gift Tag Sets

Linda from LazyYVintage says; I remember when they village started to offer recycling bins. The whole family was excited and thankful to stop throwing away things into a landfill. It made us feel useful and definitely was one thing you could do that would lower your carbon footprint on the earth. From that started a love a nature and natural areas. We volunteer in the fall to pick prairie seed, spring Jim loves to go on a good prescribed burn as a volunteer. I’ve written grants that have helped local communities and environmental groups restore, repair, and purchase prairie lands (as well as wetlands with endangered species located there). Our hobby is hiking and we try to hit as many natural areas, state and national state parks as we can. With all that, vintage is a great way to reduce, reuse, and recycle. Our home is full furniture that I have refinished or am reusing. With that said, my favorite color is green. So this vintage dinnerware set really appeals to me, and is a our pleasure to be able to save it and pass it on.

Design your Stemless Wine Flutes

Prezemila K from CanisArtStudio says; I am also concerned about the planet. Recently in my country legislation has been enacted permitting the destruction of trees. Many people protested and we signed petitions to stop it. In my paintings and drawings I’m immortalize animals and plants by nature. Sometimes my work is the creation of documentation or reconstruct the image of animals or plants which no longer exist. I have designed and produced painted clocks made of wooden waste materials. These pieces of wood were intended to be burned. So my clocks are made of recycled materials. I want to share my passion and love for nature.

Show our readers your vintage coffee items, plus coffee and espresso colored listings – and of course, include your wonderful coffee related stories.

Dawn Whitehand from DeeDeeSupplies says

I used to drink coffee by the gallon, but then one ran out milk (because the kids drank it all) so had a cup of black tea …. that was about ten years go and haven’t drank coffee since!! But I do love the colour and smell of coffee, especially fresh beans. These beads remind me of the shape and colour of fresh coffee beans, and are ideal for a range of jewellery making and craft projects.

I love my organic mild smooth blend cup of coffee a day. When I saw this fabric print I just knew coffee lovers whom were also dog lovers would totally love this dog bandanna. The bandanna shows off different styles of java, alternative names we use for coffee and there are a few coffee beans sprinkled around just making you want that coffee break just to inhale that freshness!

The best coffee is the first cup of coffee in the morning! I love to drink coffee in all variations: black, cappuccino, latte macchiato. This cap is made from a used coffee bean sac. I get the bags from a coffee trader and it is so interesting when I get them. I don’t know the lettering, some bags have the typical hole where the coffee is tested and when I cut out the seams to prepare the burlap for the project I find coffee beans inside.

What is the key to your ideal cup of coffee? Is a strong version that is dark in color like the dark brown on these beaded dangle earrings? Perhaps you’re the type who needs to add a little creamer? I’ve got that covered (in color) with the smaller seed beads too! Prepared just right, coffee resembles satin to the soul! Which by the way is the type of focal bead made to design these earrings! Start your morning right – take time to stop and smell the coffee!

Instant coffee is fine when you’re rushing out to work on a weekday, but after dinner and at the weekend you deserve the real thing. Don’t forget the cream. In my house the creamer is just as important as the coffee. No skim milk for us! It has to be half and half with fat – no fat free. We want to enjoy the cup of coffee. Here is a large Mexican creamer so we can refill our coffee with good creamer.

I’m posting this while drinking my fair trade organic coffee this morning. I love the smell of coffee, the look of it in a nice big mug. And, it does have to have plenty of cream in it. Doesn’t having a cuppa just make you take a moment to be grateful and mindful of the simple things in life? And, no dinner party is complete with a cup of coffee after dinner with a lovely dessert.

Home Of Your Own

Contributor post by Alicia from AliciasFindings

Home is often thought of as where you lay your head, your permanent residence or where your family resides. There are many types of homes such as single family, town living, city and more.

Here at CIJ we want to know all about your items for the home. What would you have in your home?
Tell us a bit about what makes it useful for the home and so on..

Linda from LazyYVintage says home for me is where we meet for family gatherings and dinner parties with friends. I love to cook. And, people seem to love that I cook. And, when you are a cook who loves vintage items, you have to own some Pyrex. I use it all the time and have several sets from different eras. This one is from the 1960s.

Stock Lane Studio from StockLaneStudio said I have moved around a lot as a kid and as a mother. We always made a new place a home by adding our own art to bare walls, even when staying in hotels and motels for long periods of time. I found that it didn’t really matter how big or little the place was or how old or new, it’s what we DID in the place that turned it into our home. We’ve served birthday cakes on towels spread out on the floor while waiting for furniture, I’ve applied for jobs using a moving box as a desk, we’ve slept on blow up mattresses, shared beds and in sleeping bags on the floor. What made the place a home was how happy were and what fun we could have.

Pam Colangelo from PearlsVintagebyPam discusses that I am lucky to have 2 homes: 1 in Cape Cod and 1 in Syracuse NY. We bought a place where we vacationed for years with our kids. We all Love The Cape!!
I am featuring my Flo Blue Plate as my Cape home is decorated with White and Blue. Doors and moldings Are white. My Syracuse home has dark wood and antiques.
We will Soon be visiting the Cape! This year my new grandson will come.

Karen Hafel from timetalentjewels said we do a lot of cooking in our home and so when it is time to take something off the stove or reach in the oven we use these wool felted hot pads. They are great! They can also be used as a trivet. Both my daughters have them and have used them for many years. They ask for them again and again. They even buy them for their friends for gifts. I just keep busy making them so there will be enough to go around.

Cindy Humphrey from Cynhumphrey says I love a pop of color in my indoor house plants. I really do not have a green thumb at all but every time I look at these adorable plant ornaments, I’m given a gentle reminder to show my plants some TLC! I have them in multiple colors and themes throughout the house, all matching the room decor they are placed in.

Pale Dogwood – Pantone Fashion Color For Spring 2017

Contributor post by Michelle of EviesToolEmporium

Color trends are a wonderful way to celebrate the seasons!

According to Pantone one of the top colors for Spring 2017 is Pale Dogwood.

PANTONE 13-1404 Pale Dogwood

Continuing the tranquil mood, Pale Dogwood is a quiet and peaceful pink shade that engenders an aura of innocence and purity. The unobtrusive Pale Dogwood is a subtle pink whose soft touch infuses a healthy glow.

Members of the Etsy Christmas In July Team have been inspired by the color Pale Dogwood! They have created items in their shops reflecting this inspiration! Here are a few!
Linda from LazyYVintage says:.
I love pink come spring. This tulip vase is a beautiful little piece of florist ware that to me embodies the essence of the spring season. The lovely, tranquil pale pink in a frosted glass accent piece is perfect flowers or just to bring in that pastel, comfy look to your decor.

Simone aka Rose from RosesFeltWorkshop says:

I have several items in my shop that are a very pale subtle pink, but I think this is my favourite. The rose is my favourite flower, so evocative of an English Summer, but they don’t last very long. Here I have made a rose that you can wear all year long.

I choose these papers to make tags with because of the soft pinks. One of which is the pale dogwood pink. These would be great for tagging gifts or treat bags for girls or women… great for Mother’s Day gifts.

Carola Bartz from CarolaBartz says:

I love the combination of different shades of pink and brown – they go so well together. The pale dogwood with the tiny white dots behind the “darling” is my favorite part of this card beside the bird. The idea for this card came around Valentine’s Day, but you can give it to someone who is special in your life any other day in the year as well. After all, it’s always a good time to tell someone he or she is our darling, right?

Cut It Out

Contributor post by Alicia from AliciasFindings

There are so many items that have cut outs in them, some by accident and some by design.

Holes in jeans, paper snowflakes and so much more.

Here at EtsyCIJ we want to see all your items that are cut out. Please tell us something about your item.

Linda from LazyYVintage says a beautiful find! A cutout pottery bowl. It is a signed pottery bowl with a cutout and etched design glazed a wonderful blue green on the inside of the bowl. The bowl would look lovely on a shelf, or as a coffee table bowl. I keep moving it around the house to see how it looks here and there…..just so pretty.

il_570xN.1216624335_3vzn.jpg

Stock Lane Studio from StockLaneStudio said here are hand punched paper hearts. Great for scrap booking, table scatter or party confetti. This would make a great present for a language teacher.

In a previous life I was an English teacher and had the opportunity to teach students from all over the world. Although I encouraged everyone to speak English most of the time for the sake of learning, my Japanese English dictionary came in handy when talking to brand new struggling students or visiting parents. I used it a lot when traveling to Japan as well.

Scrapbooking hearts

Kelly from ColourscapeStudios states I created these tags for last year’s Etsy/Plan Australia Make For Good fundraiser, which had the theme of “Making brighter futures”. My idea was to use bright coloured card and featured little cutout hearts to bring colour and love to those less fortunate. Collectively, the Australian and New Zealand sellers involved raised over $38,000 together to help young women in Sri Lanka build a better life for themselves.

Marie-Antoinknit from 9ElizabethStreet said In knitting, we usually use a yarn-over (or yarn forward) to create holes & spaces. When done with very fine yarns, you get those ethereal cobweb shawls. When done with a thicker yarn, you get a lot more structure holding the “cut-outs” together – like this:

Floral Fantasy

Contributor Post by Opal from ApronStringsOwlLady

Don’t you just love flowers! This is a lovely topic with all the gorgeous great smelling flowers in the world.

Along with the flowers we grow in our gardens, those that get presented to us in beautiful bouquets and the flowers we admire in someone else’s garden – we also have the plentiful array of life-like faux flowers, from silks to succulents.

I’d love to hear your stories about the wonderful Floral Fantasy creations you’ve encountered throughout the years – and of course, see the corresponding items in your shops.

Connie Lee from Bungalow42 says

Who doesn’t love flowers? The allergy prone aside…

I tend to be drawn to the minimalist approach in flower arrangements. A great example of this minimalist approach is Ikebana. This Japanese art of flower arranging has inspired many florists to create fresh, natural creations with an emphasis on balance and imbalance, as well as graceful lines.

These earrings composed of cascading three petal flowers hand-knotted on walnut waxed linen are an Ikebana inspired design.

The flowers sway softly as you move creating a graceful floating effect, particularly fun against a backdrop of tresses.

I too love flowers. And, I also love florist ware. All those vases and planters that are full of flowers, and memories of the flowers that were once there. I’ve been truly blessed with a husband and sons who know how much I do love flowers. Now instead of sending me another vase from the florist shop (of which I have numerous colors, size, and styles of) they go out of their way to find me a unique vintage vase or planter. My personal collection of florist ware is growing with each birthday or Mothers’ Day.

This bowl is from FTD in 1979. Back in the day when unique, quality florist ware was used to create their beautiful bouquets.

The Great Outdoors

Contributor Post by  Sheila and Shannon from BeadyEyedBird

There are so many ways to enjoy the great outdoors! We asked our Teamies what they love to do outside, and what their shops offer so others can do the same. Here’s what they told us:

Stock Lane Studio from StockLaneStudio said:

Nature is such a great source of inspiration for me. The starry night sky, the greenery of the forest and the salt of the sea all snap my creativity into production. I really love my visits to the sea. My kids can be as loud as they want with the ocean waves crashing around them. They can run and get dirty, bury themselves in the sand and then wash it all off in the water. They remind me that I once did that too and coax me out into the wild. We all feel the forces of nature that are greater than us, wind on our faces and salt on our tongues and powerful waves stinging our skin. There is no better place to make me feel so grateful to be alive. This inspirational quote is a reminder of that. And yes, those are my kids and their cousins, doing what kids do best, making their mark on the sandy beaches of the Oregon Coast.

We spent many vacations with our kids and dog at Southwick Beach on Lake Ontario. We stayed in Our Red Coleman Tent. When my Premie Daughter was born and the hospital told us to take a break for a weekend we stayed on an electric camp site so I could Pump my Milk to keep it going for my return. She is now 30 and in excellent health.

Well we used Sleeping Bags. I am selling a new but vintage Marlboro Sleeping Bag that my sister gave ma as a Gift. She was an Avid Smoker and collected Marlboro gifts.

I can see it out my kitchen window and enjoy watching how it changes through the seasons.

We have fish and “resident” frogs that are fun to watch.

The frogs are highly intelligent and are famous for posing in silly positions for my camera!

I love nature, period. Whether it’s working in my garden, watching birds at the lake or hiking in the wilderness — I enjoy it and couldn’t live without it. And then in the evening we sit around the campfire (yes, I do love to camp and sleep in a tent) and write into my journal. This is when inspiration hits and I can write about nature, my thoughts, my feelings and adventures in a beautiful handmade journal.

Once Spring and Summer arrive I love to wander around my garden and enjoy all the flowers and insect life that suddenly emerge.

These charms, once made in jewellery, keychains or craft projects, can remind us of the garden during the Winter months.

We love to visit Florida and go down to the keys. It is always a peaceful, relaxing time. The ocean around us never fails to amaze us and provide us with spiritual and mindfulness times. To sit and watch the waves, hear its wonderful sounds and know that there is such beauty in the world is all I need.

The Great Outdoors calls for a pair of warm Men’s Wool Socks that fit in the boots for hiking, working outdoors or sitting in that deer stand waiting for that first deer to stroll by. If the sock should get damp it would still keep the foot warm and dry. What a wonderful way to be outside and yet still be warm! Women’s sizes are available too!
