I Can See Clearly Now

Contributor Post by Sheila and Shannon of BeadyEyedBird

They say something is ‘Crystal Clear’ when you can see right through it, like good, pure water or clean glass. We asked our Teamies what they love and/or offer that is crystal clear, and here’s what they shared with us.

Dawn Whitehand from DeeDeeSupplies said:

These beads are not only clear, but are also faceted giving them a crystal like quality. This type of gem is so versatile – it can be combined with any colour and will reflect that colour; can be used as a focal among other colours; or can be used on its own!

These beads are ideal for jewellery design, quilting, scrapbooking – name your craft project!

When I first came upon these beads I was so enthusiastic with the bubbles as they were crystal clear and projected an iridescent color in them. The shells captured that color. The name “Under the Sea” seemed appropriate for this necklace.

When I first discovered the joys of vintage buying and selling I was shy about stocking glass items … party because I knew very little about identifying quality, but I also had a deep fear of getting the packaging wrong and ending up with breakages! My learning curve included watching the TV show Bargain Hunters, and that is where I first heard about Orrefors crystal. This paneled art glass bowl was my first personal encounter with the ‘real thing’. Stunned by the both the design and the clarity, I overcame my anxiety and brought it into my shop. I now stock quite a few glass pieces but this one is still my all time favorite.

It’s been showcased in many forms – printed on pillows, made into wall murals and in 2016 is a very trendy word –

Wan·der·lust (Websters Dictionary)
a strong desire to travel.
“a man consumed by wanderlust”

I’d love to see your Wanderlust items and I hope this proves to be a very adventurous thread! Thank you in advance for your thoughts and listings.

Gosh, just one submission – no fair!

Wanderlust is what SLS is all about! My daughters and I love to wander and our shop shows it. Our studies and jobs have taken us all over Europe, parts of Asia and the United States. This ‘wanderlust’ printable aptly reflects our love for travel and hiking. I remember the day we hiked through this lush forest in the Belgian Ardennes. I felt like I was engulfed in ferns and could get lost in them forever. Our photography shop, Stock Lane Photography, offers lots of fine art travel photography as well.

Capture your wanderlust!

Fashion accessories can be so much fun! You can mix and match styles, patterns and so much more. You can play up an outfit or let the outfit shine. It’s all up to you!

Fashion accessories can be jewelry, bags, scarves, eye wear, jackets, boots…

Here at Christmas in July we want to know what fashion accessories do you have in your shop?

Lizzy and Boo from LizzysBibsandBobs says this gorgeous piece of vintage bling would be sure to add the right amount of sparkle to any formal outfit – Mother of the Bride, Mother of the Groom, School Prom etc. It’s big , its bold and most of all it SPARKLES!!

Gari Anne  from beadloverskorner says these Eternal Reflection Earrings are a wonderful accessory in a two-tone silver and gold, which goes with nearly everything! These earrings were worn by Elena Gilbert (played by Actress Nina Dobrev) on “The Vampire Diaries” in season 5 episode 2. They were gifted in consideration for use to the costume stylist of the CW Network series “The Vampire Diaries”, in a collaborative gift bag from The Artisan Group®.

Linda Yunker from LazyYVintage states how about for men? This 100% wool winter hat and scarf set is created in an Irish-inspired design with a beanie hat in navy blue trimmed in pale gray. It will make a wonderful Christmas gift as well as keep them warm with a subtle style (as if the Irish were subtle).

Customer Relations

Contributor post by Alicia from AliciasFindings

Business relies a lot on what your relations with your customer is like. Is it good, bad, indifferent?

Here at Christmas in July we want to know what can (or do) you do to better serve your customer?

Kelly from ColourscapeStudios says I think the biggest thing in customer service is to be genuine. The reason people shop with small businesses like all of ours is to be able to connect to the maker/seller. Working within two genres that personalizes items, I’ve found that the people I work with react well to being served properly – using their name if you know it, talking through any questions and concerns they have, appreciating their time and most of all, delivering the product you say you’re going to.CSSCR

Gari Anne from beadloverskorner said I have been in customer service all of my life, and the most important thing in developing a relationship with them is to respond to their needs quickly, even if you don’t have the answer or its bad news, if there is an issue then stay on top of it until it is resolved. When you do that, it shows the customer that they are important and that they can trust you. This goes a long way in getting repeat business and word of mouth advertising!

Fortune Teller Amethyst Crystal ball Necklace

Rachel Placek from LoveandPetFurCrochet states I LOVE the customer service aspect of selling on Etsy. I get really excited when people ask me about creating a special item just for them. I know many sellers hope to just list their own creations and sell them but I actually love to create based on ideas and requests from my buyers. I find that if I add those creations as “made to order” items in my shop they end up being some of my best sellers.

An example of this is my crochet baby giraffe. I created this along with a gorgeous baby blanket for a customer who had very specific colors in mind. She wanted these two items for a baby shower gift and sent me a picture of the nursery design. Because I crocheted this giraffe for her I have sold at least 10 giraffes since listing this one last fall! I may have never thought to crochet this giraffe except for the request of this customer.

So, my advice, is to take the time to listen and think outside the box. If you can create something special for someone by all means do it! You won’t regret it.

Richard and Tatiana from DesignsTheLimit said When our customers are purchasing a listing to have it shipped directly to their gift recipient, we offer additional gift services including gift wrap and custom-made gift cards. We print the gift message provided on premium card stock using a font complimentary to the personalized gift they will open and include an envelope. Providing professional gift services is an important part of the customer service we offer from graphic design to the gift recipient’s door. We also offer graphic design from images submitted by our customers to inspired designs for any concept or idea which comes to mind. We are especially busy around the holidays and offer rush orders for last-minute personalized gift giving year round. Our Secret Santa E-Gift Certificate listing is available from Christmas to Christmas in July! Purchasing a redeemable e-gift certificate allows the gift recipient to enter the information they want and choose a design and font combination to their style and preference and is more than an option for last minute shoppers. @Designsthelimit we provide personalized gift services to match the personalized gifts we provide. Just Say No to gift cards and make your next gift purchase, a gift giving experience.

Gift wrap and Card

Lia Russo from Ghirlandiamo says The customer care is really one of the most important aspects of selling for me.
For a long time I have been a trainer of that topic, so you can imagine how much I take care of it.

With customers it’s necessary to be very patient: a lot of people do not read descriptions and then, when they receive the item, they think you sent them a wrong one. This is just an example!

What is my customer care politics?
– To reply in the shortest time to any information request
– Great willingness
– A small gift every time I ship an order and a thanks card handwritten.

I see my customers appreciate all this and give a five stars review, combining it with nice and warm words.

Rose Quartz And Serenity – Pantone Color Of The Year 2016

Contributor post by Michelle of EviesToolEmporium

The 2016 PANTONE Color of the Year is Rose Quartz and Serenity. Pantone shares:

As consumers seek mindfulness and well-being as an antidote to modern-day stresses, welcoming colors that psychologically fulfill our yearning for reassurance and security are becoming more prominent. Joined together, Rose Quartz and Serenity demonstrate an inherent balance between a warmer embracing rose tone and the cooler tranquil blue, reflecting connection and wellness as well as a soothing sense of order and peace.

The prevalent combination of Rose Quartz and Serenity also challenges traditional perceptions of color association.

In many parts of the world we are experiencing a gender blur as it relates to fashion, which has in turn impacted color trends throughout all other areas of design. This more unilateral approach to color is coinciding with societal movements toward gender equality and fluidity, the consumer’s increased comfort with using color as a form of expression, a generation that has less concern about being typecast or judged and an open exchange of digital information that has opened our eyes to different approaches to color usage.

Christmas In July Team Members Who Blog

Contributor post by Michelle of EviesToolEmporium

January is the time to relax and enjoy quiet time in front of my wood burning fireplace. One of my favorite pastimes when I’m sitting in front of the fireplace is reading blogs.

There are many Christmas In July team members who are bloggers. Please take a few moment with me as you sit in front of your fireplace tonight to read their blogs.

Sit back, relax and enjoy!

Savannah Griffith from RareRusticCrafts says:

I host my blog on my website: www.rarerusticcrafts.com/rare-rustic-crafts-blog

My favorite article was from a few months ago. I sell two different kinds of clay masks and one of my most frequent questions is how to use them. I wrote an article with instructions on how to use them. The blog relates back to a post card and an instagram post. Between the three items, I’ve been able to hand out instructions at markets and refer people back to my blog and the video clip on my instagram. It’s been a great tool for not only helping to answer my most frequent question as thoroughly as I can, but for getting my customers on my website and my instagram.

I have so many favourite posts and they are all so different from each other…some are recipes, others are about daily life experiences, some are about soap, and others range from anzac day to my experience teaching in Mongolia. It is not a blog that deals specifically with Etsy…however I do have one post that deals with #makeforgood. The blog I have chosen is the second part of a two-part blog. I think it is a piece that most parents could relate to…the deadline for an impending school assignment and nothing done! Here is the link-

It is a blog about wrapping your order. In this post I describe the way I walked to where I am now.
