Estes Park, Colorado, USA

1. What is your favorite vacation destination and why? Where exactly in the world is it located?

My husband and I have a goal to visit all US 50 states by the time we are 50. So far we have 27 and will have over 30 by the end of this year. So far, my favorite place has been Estes Park, Colorado USA. I love the mountains, Mary’s Lake, the elk, and the beautiful night sky.

2.  What are several places everyone visiting this destination should see?

The roaming elk, lake, mountains, and the peak to peak route.

3. What special customs, traditions, geography, nature etc. are intriguing about this destination?

Beautiful mountain terrain, lots of hiking trails, lake activities, small town with quaint boutique shops.

4. Where are the hot spots to eat and drink?

We had a condo and went to the local grocery store to make all our meals and drinks.

5. Have you been to your favorite vacation destination more than once and will you visit again?

Only once, but I am excited to return.

Foodie Gifts

Contributor Post by Sheila and Shannon from BeadyEyedBird

‘food·ie
ˈfo͞odē/
noun
a person with a particular interest in food; a gourmet.
synonyms: gourmet, epicure, gastronome, gourmand
“his father was a foodie who worked for an international magazine”

We are definitely foodies! How about you? Our teamies told us about their love for all things gourmet. Tell us about your favorite foodie things!

For many years I am a vegeterian. Actually I could be a vegan also because my favorite food is fruits. I love the colors and scents of fruits, there are so many different shapes! It’s so inspiring! I also like to paint fruit too. One of my favorite topics is “wild apples”. Many years ago in my neighborhood, there was a custom of planting an apple tree by the road. When I go for a walk with my dogs I can meet such a wild tree and collect apples that are no longer available in any store. I paint small still life with these apples. It’s a little romantic and it’s a great decorating the kitchen or the dining room, so this series of my oil paintings are selling fast. Occasionally they are also available in my shop. Of course I also paint other fruits and you can order oil painting with your favorite fruits or vegetables.

Oh boy do I LOVE to Cook!!! Experimenting by pairing specific foods is a great challenge, but a really fun project for me too. The best part is eating it!

I carry a few really fun food related ceramic beads in my shop like these little peanuts that have a Chinese saying on them “good luck always”. Peanuts carry a special meaning in the Chinese Culture of flourish and growth. Which is a perfect symbol for this spring summer season.

I love the sensory overload of village markets. The hustle and bustle and conversation of the animated sellers and shoppers, the smells and colors of the produce and meats and fish. I offer travel photos in my photography shop: Stock Lane Photography, and this one brings back so many memories of visits to this large indoor market. Capture your wanderlust!

My husband and I love to cook and try mom n’ pop restaurants. We enjoy trying new recipes or creating our own. He got me several celebrity chef cookbooks for christmas, so we have been trying a new recipe each week. Recently, my husband started a blog to share our recipes with step by step pictures. He gets so excited writing a blog, sharing all his ideas and tips.

We use several kitchen gadgets and this huge measuring cup is great to use.

I love to cook and bake, so being a foodie is real thing for us. When my boys were little they loved to watch the Frugal Gourmet. I have a set of these Pyrex deep dish pie pans and absolutely love them. They make great lemon meringue pies.

Over time I lean more towards miniatures and smalls for my shop.

I listen to all sorts of music depending on my mood. I like old country like Johnny Cash, Waylon, Hank Sr. I enjoy 70’s to 90’s Rock & Pop. When I need a little pick me up I will listen to 50s’/60’s or alt rock.

I am currently reading The Dark Tower series by Stephen King. A movie will soon be released so I like to re-read the series before seeing the movie.

The Twelve Days of Christmas – #CIJParty 2017

Contributor post by Dawn from DeeDeeDeesigns

We have a wide variety of Etsy sellers in our Christmas in July team, and this means we have a great range of handmade and vintage products to choose from for the 12 Days of Christmas.

I asked team members if they have an item in their shop that relates to the 12 days of Christmas? And here we go:

And here are the 12 days of Christmas!

Twelve Drummers Drumming

patontheback from patontheback says

I love Christmas in July because we’re expecting 110° plus, and I can go on a virtual holiday thinking about cool items outside my hot desert!
Twelve drummers drumming- I’ve always been a percussion instrument fan, and this fabric makes me think of not only the twelve days of Christmas, but a little drummer. Happy holidays!

Eleven Pipers Piping

How about these lovely vintage carolers singing the 12 Days of Christmas?

Nine Ladies Dancing

The ninth of Christmas – nine ladies dancing! These colourful dancing charms are great for jewellery design, card making, gift wrapping, bunting and a wide range of craft projects.

KATERINA ILIAKI from OnceUponJewelsCo says

Nine ladies dancing were the nine fruits of the Holy Spirit-Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness, and Self Control. This necklace also symbolizes the joy of love and freedom. Dance is an expression and combination of all of these sentiments.

Susan-Sharon Passmore from MsPDesignsUSA says

On the ninth day of Christmas my true love gave to me– nine ladies dancing. Well, we actually have 13 ladies dancing the ballet on this fun nursery quilt, but who’s counting?

Eight Maids a Milking
Eight maids a milking – need to have some modesty and comfort in these slip shorts worn under their frocks while milking the cows… I love CIJ as it makes so much sense as an Australian Etsy seller to enjoy all the delicious Christmas foods while we are in our winter.. pudding, nom!

Stock Lane Studio from StockLaneStudio says

Well, it’s a bit of a stretch, but here’s my number 8 in the night sky – if you look closely you can see the Milky Way!

Seven Swans a Swimming

This pretty swan has her baby next to her and a child. The cream and gold colors remind me of an elegant Christmas.

Six Geese a Laying

Five Golden Rings

KATERINA ILIAKI from OnceUponJewelsCo says

The five golden rings represents the great love of God in sending a Savior. It is a very powerful day for me as I adore Christmas and Christmas time. It is a unique opportunity to remind ourselves to love each other, to help and respect everything that has life in it.

Five golden rings. 5 glasses, each has with a gold ring at the top.

Four Calling Birds

Emma Kaufmann from StudioEmmaKaufmann says

I love watching cute little robins chattering outside my window and all excited for Christmas against a stunning snowing background. This artwork was done in acrylic inks and is now available as a print to complete a festive look.

I love celebrating Christmas in July…I live in Baltimore where summers are sweltering so having a Christmas in July pool party certainly helps beat the heat!

Three French Hens

I love this Christmas song. I have a wire basket hen to go with the song.
This hen is an egg picking  asket and can be used to display Christams ornaments, flowers, wooden eggs and the like.

Two Turtle Doves
One dove in each ear makes a pair of turtle doves

and a Partridge in a Pear Tree

Linda from LazyYVintage says
On the first day of Christmas My True Love Gave To Me….a partridge in a pear tree!
This is first in the 12 Days of Christmas series for Precious Moments. I love Christmas in July team and event. The team is a fun and motivating way to market our shops while checking out other members’ shops. I love the event as a way to up the ante in marketing during a usually slow period for vintage buying. Always helps in recognition and in sales!
Not exactly a partridge in a pear tree, but how about this “in style” galvanized bucket planter with a vintage inspired pear fruit label.

Carol Braden-Williams from SilverTrove says

This may be a stretch, but it kinda looks like a partridge.

Food And Drink – #CIJParty 2017

Contributor post by Michelle of EviesToolEmporium

Good morning everyone! Once again this year we kick off our Etsy Christmas In July Party this year with food and dink! What is a party without refreshments?

I invited members of the Etsy Christmas In July team to share their Christmas Inspired food and drink items.

Barbara from HometownUSA says:

I have a spot on my kitchen wall where I hang a special crocheted pot holder which is always being changed to coincide with the current holiday or season. This one is for Christmas.

Cristal Hughes from DesignsbyCristal says:

Rebecca Turkovics from OrnamentsByRebeccaT says:

I have a quilted fabric ornaments in what I call The Grillmaster Series. The were inspired by my best friends, both of which have passed away. The one I’m giving the link for immediately made me think of him. He was such a “Grillmaster”. And an exceptionally good one I might add. All four of the series brought back so many good memories of summer barbques with our families. The ornament would look great on stand for summer as well as on a Christmas tree because ornaments are #NotJustForChristmas.

KATERINA ILIAKI from OnceUponJewelsCo says:

In some religions they do not eat meat during a long period until the final week of Christmas. Fish is a very important dish for them as it is the only kind of meat they can consume and that is on certain days.

Dawn Whitehand from DeeDeeDeesigns says:

Christmas colours for me are red, gold, white and green!!

This handmade ceramic bowl in green would make a gorgeous centrepiece for the Christmas table. Linda from LazyYVintage says:

Drop on by any time and I’ll offer you a drink. Ice tea, wine, coffee? But drop by during the Christmas season, and I’ll offer you those some drinks in a lively, colorful Christmas glass. I can’t resist them. So much so that now my friends drop in and bring me a glass, or two, and if I’m really lucky, a set of holiday designed glassed. So, my set is a bit mismatched; but used often and full of memories.

NeatoKeen from NeatoKeen says:

There is nothing more festive than a cocktail during the holidays and this vintage tea towel supplies a dozen recipes for mixed drinks such as a Singapore Sling and an Orange Blossom. Small Wonders

Post contributor from Julie at EveryoneLovesGifts0

As we are surrounded by great makers who make all wonderful items,
* I was wondering what small items do you make?
* Do you like making small items?
* Do your small items sell well?
* Which is your best selling item?

Przemila K from CanisArtStudio says; “..See how much happiness,
The small things hide.
Let’s enjoy the little things,
Because the rules for bliss is written in them!”
This is the lyrics of my favorite song!

In my shop are popular small oil paintings and custom pet portraits. I love painting them and I have designed a series of miniature painted wall clocks. This is the new in my shop. The dimensions of this clock are just that 6 x 7 inch. This small wall clock can be the decoration of the home or office interior and of course the souvenir of a beautiful moment. This is a very personalized gift!
Also little things are easy to send and shipping is not expensive.

Small Painted Clock

Judith Messenger from FabriArts says; My favorite things to make are quilts, but when cutting out the pieces for a quilt, there are always small pieces of fabric left over. I’ve found the perfect things to make with these smaller pieces are these little purse accessories – business card/credit card wallets and travel tissue covers. The Laurel Burch fabric used in this set is particularly popular.

Stock Lane Studio from StockLaneStudio says; Our Etsy Paper and Supply shop, Stock Lane Paper, designs printable mini cards that are just perfect for adding to gift baskets or using as thank you notes for Etsy orders! Many of our printable cards are customizable, so just let us know what you have in mind and we can work with you to create just the right design.

Printable Thank You Cards

Shelly from ShellysSelectSalvage says; I sell vintage including miniatures. These are really popular as customers use them as office desk decor, windowsill decor, gifts for friends, and a cute something for their vanity.

The most popular vintage miniatures are copper and pretty salt cellars. The copper items sell almost as soon as I list them, though they are hard to find.
My salt cellars are more common, but can be used for more than a salt dish. These can hold rings, small jewelry, or use to put herbs in while cooking.

I like selling miniatures because storing & shipping are so much easier and quicker.

Cristal Hughes from DesignsbyCristal says; This is a cute fishing gear collar designed for a small dog/puppy. Small dogs need to have their accessories as well so creating something in a small size for them was a work of love!

Fishing Mini Dog Collar

Marijean from MariMartiDesigns says; I’ve always been a beading maniac for as long as I can remember! My favorite supplies to work with are beads and textile–namely up cycled sari silk. These elements come together joyfully in some of the small wonders in my shop!

I make (mostly) jewelry and so I spend a lot of time working with tiny beads to create small products that can be worn. Some of my quickest moving “small wonders” are my tassel earrings. They give a tiny bit of festive fringe to your look without overpowering your overall ensemble! Say, “Hello” to your New Favorite Pair of Earrin

Fringe Earrings

Dina StyleKnits from DinaStyleKnits says; My favorite items are knitted scarves, but I like to make small items too. I like to make small beaded brooches for my scarves and shawls. For example, this red brooch with glass beads was sold several times. This is my brooch bestseller. I like this small things, because of they add interesting and special accent to simple clothes.

Red Brooch

Gillian Haqqani from Gillisflowers says; I make origami jewellery and most is flower themed. I very rarely use paper more than 2″ square and for a piece such as this where the flowers measure between 3/8th and 3/4 of an inch with the smallest folded from squares of paper measuring 3/4″. I love folding such small flowers but I usually have to throw at least 3 away for every one that is usable

Vintage Floral Pendant

Donna Schindler from TreasuresFromTheLake says; I sell these wine charms that go around your wine glass stem.
These are great so that you will never lose your glass at a party again. They make great gifts.

Tatiana Burka from FoxFamilyBoutique says; I make mini busy boards for kids. Size 20 to 30 cm. Now this type of goods I have the best selling.

Fairy Gardens

Fairy Gardens

We see them in many do-it-yourself blogs.. the cute half broken Terra-Cotta pots with mini fairy gardens…the little wooden fairy doorways to nowhere, star dust land I suppose! And even the fairyland accessories at the local craft store.

Has anyone taken this to a new height, or do you have items in your shops for fairy garden use? Show us your gnomes, fairies, mushrooms and the like…we’d love to see them!

willowvalleyvintage from WillowValleyVintage says

We love tiny figurines! Hagen-Renaker animals are a particular favorite to List in our Shop. Even small dollhouse items can work perfectly in a Fairy Garden setting. This metal wheelbarrow toy and Hagen-Renaker robin will bring a touch of vintage charm to any fairy garden:

Shelly from ShellysSelectSalvage says

I love fairy gardens! Well, I love miniature things to collect and to sell.
My niece loves fairies and decorates her room with them, so I am always looking for a cute little one to add to her collection.

This would be great in a fairy garden.

Judy from JAMsCraftClosetJA says

I was thinking about the items in my craft and vintage shop…fairy garden?

I thought, of course, you would want to make sure the garden had the PERFECT temperature to keep the fairies happy…and this thermometer would be the PERFECT one for the job…

Holly Becker’s Top 4 Design Trends To Watch

Contributor post by Michelle of EviesToolEmporium

I am fascinated by trends. Are you? There are weather trends, work place trends, business trends, job trends, food trends, real estate trends, hair trends, fashion trends color trends and so on.

The definition of a trend is a general direction in which something is developing or changing. In college I took several classes on trends. I remember distinctly studying pre peak – peak – post peak timelines. I find trends intriguing. They pique my curiosity.

Trends unite us. Give us a common ground. A connecting point.

This article is inspired by the Trend Watch With Holly Becker of decor8  article on the Etsy blog.

Shelly from ShellysSelectSalvage says:

Great Blog! I can see why she has published a book.

I love enamelware and ceramics. I agree that ceramics are in and I personally like the handmade look and when it isn’t perfect.

I think this is a pretty, elegant ceramic vase that was made in Japan. It has a matte look and feel with muted flowers. The curves are so feminine.

Nautico Creations from NauticoCreations says:

The twig vase in this arrangement utilizes one of the trends mentioned by Holly Becker, which is using natural and raw surfaces. This natural twig vase complements the earthy greenery and offers a nice backdrop to the soft lavenders of the lilacs and pansies.

NauticoCreations

Stock Lane Studio from StockLaneStudio says:

Well, I’ll have to say I really enjoy reading Holly Becker’s positive blog. I don’t have much in the category of ceramics or enamelware, but if good health and positive mind are a trend, I’m hitching a ride! The way we think, approach life and help others can certainly lead to a stronger and better body!

Here’s a little positive inspiration for any girls or women out there who have been told – NO, you can’t do that – in more ways than one. Available in print or printable.
