Let Wedding Season Begin

Contributor post by Nancy from JaysBoutiqueCrochet

Wedding season is just around the corner! Whether it is your big day or you are helping a friend or family member plan their wedding, we know how overwhelming the details can be. Luckily, your Christmas in July team is here to help, with this compilation of beautiful and unique products that can be the perfect finishing touch for that memorable day.

We would love to hear what Etsy items you have used in the past for weddings, or what wedding-geared items you have in your shop! But in the meantime, here are some products from our team members that will make your wedding that much more beautiful and meaningful!

It all starts long before the actual wedding day, of course, and StockLaneStudio has you covered. What better way to ask your bridal party to be a part of your special day than with these fun invitations? The owner says:

“I absolutely love weddings – just a wonderful feeling of hope and happiness and giddy blissful love. I really enjoyed designing SLS’s pink bubbly wedding party cards. I think they present a fun way to ask loved ones to be party of the wedding party. And apparently I’m not the only one. Here’s a nice comment from one happy bride:

“Loved this! Such a cute, different way to ask my best friend to play an important role in my wedding. Thank you!!!”‘

Pam from PearlsVintagebyPam offers us the perfect petticoat – an old-fashioned yet undeniably fun touch! This particular petticoat is made for a slim bride but seems to be adjustable and flexible regarding the amount of flare! She says:

“This is a great Slip/Petticoat Undergarment for the Bride. It Flares as much or little as need be. It has never been worn!”

Dawn Whitehand from DeeDeeSupplies suggested her flower acrylic beads as the perfect supply to have on hand during wedding season, and how right is she! These beads are not only inexpensive, but they are versatile and match just about everything! She says:

“These clear flower beads are perfect to embellish wedding or bridesmaids dresses, table decor, wedding bunting, bouquets and jewelry….”

WillowValleyVintage offers many beautiful decorations for your wedding day, including figurines, tissue paper novelties, and more! I love that all of these items are not necessarily expected to be at a wedding (no one would notice if they were not there) but they are a surprising and lovely touch that show a particular attention to detail and a true desire to make this day perfect. The owner shared with us this lovely stereoview card:

“This is a stereoview card from the early 1900s. It has a 3D effect when used with a stereoscope–similar to View-Master toys of today. We love all the pretty details and guests waiting in the background of the scene!”

No discussion of weddings would be complete without a mention of the wedding dress itself! Cynthia from StraylightVintage offers an absolutely stunning array of clothes, but obviously the shop section we are most interested in here is the Vintage Wedding Dress section! Cynthia shared this darling (and incredibly affordable!!) wedding dress with a personal story:

“Sweet wedding dress worn one time ….by my aunt in the early 1950’s.”

Lizzy and Boo from LizzysBibsandBobs thinks every bride should have a beautiful pair of Vintage Faux Pearl Clip Earrings, an ideal accessory for the retro Bride! These lovely earrings remind me of the ones worn by my Aunt on her wedding day back in 1962 – I was her Flower Girl!

Love birds are often given to brides and grooms as a symbol of true love. Dorota from YOrnaments explains how

Love Birds marry for life – that is why they are a perfect symbol of harmonious marriage.

I love watching the birds nesting in my garden. They inspire me to create my Love Birds Ornaments. I am hoping that a pair of my birds will fly to decorate some rustic wedding table … and maybe later become a little ornamental keepsake for Bride and Groom.

I use beautiful textiles to inject patterns and colors into my felt creations. The photos were taken in my garden. Happy Nesting!

Some couples who are religious in nature might think about giving their special people these Love Scripture Cards made by Sarah from BellaBoutique23. They have been used by several brides that have given them to guests for their wedding favors. They include scriptures about love and on the back they have a special prayer that goes with the scripture. They also make a nice gift for the Bride and Groom. I have Faith, Hope, and Love themed scripture cards and put together they would make a lovely unique gift. “And Now Abideth Faith, Hope, and Love, these three, but the Greatest of these is love.” 1 Corinthians 13:13.

There is always a need for  ceramic square white dishes made by Dawn from DeeDeeDeesigns. These are ideal for weddings in many ways…. they can be used as candle holders on tables, bridesmaids gifts, parents of the bride & groom gifts, guest gifts and even name holders.

As gifts they will be a lasting reminder to the recipient and can be personalized if desired.

We must not forget our destination wedding loving couples! Connie from Bungalow42 says Beach wedding perfect!

It is said that the color coral gives a sense of calm and warmth. Two things I would definitely recommend for all brides!

These lightweight pearl earrings are so light and airy that they appear be floating. The luminous light coral freshwater nugget pearls will make any bride glow with happiness on her special day.

And finally, one of the items in my own shop, JaysBoutiqueCrochet, that I can’t resist sharing because of its sweet story! A few years ago a soon-to-be bride approached me asking if I would make her some ivory slippers to wear in her wedding! I was absolutely honored to have my creations featured on her special day – but it got even better! She loved the slippers I sent her, and messaged me again asking if I would make slippers for each of her bridesmaids, with buttons to match their bridesmaid dresses. Of course, I was thrilled and sent off eight more pairs of ivory slippers! Here are some of them (can you pick out the ones meant for the bride?)

We dearly love seeing your wedding-themed products, and especially hearing your personal stories! Thank you to all who contributed, and please feel free to comment with wedding products in your store or stories of how Etsy products were featured in weddings that you have been part of!

They were gifted in consideration for use to the costume stylist of the CW Network series “The Vampire Diaries”, in a collaborative gift bag from The Artisan Group®.

Contributor post by Alicia from AliciasFindings

Earrings are such a fun way to dress up any outfit! You can have so many styles-stud, dangle, drop, chandelier, threader and so many more.

Here at Christmas in July we want you to show us one of your earrings and tell us a bit about the type of earring, what makes it special and so on.

Valerie Brown from FirepanJewellery says I make earrings from a variety of materials, but one of my favorites is using enamel to give a pop of color! I do traditional kiln fired enameling, which is using a (very) hot kiln to fuse powdered glass onto metal. One of the fun aspects of this technique, for me, is that you can’t control the process completely. All sorts of wonderful surprises come out of the kiln! These earrings are part of my “Colors of white” line. Of course, white light is made up of many different colors, so there are many to choose from!

Colors of white Enamel earrings

Connie Lee from Bungalow42 said one of my favorite pairs of earrings, purchased years ago before I ever dreamed of making jewelry were made from shells. I found them while on vacation in Mexico on Isla Mujeres, an island off the Yucatán Peninsula coast. It is the memory of these long-lost earrings that inspires my shell earring designs.

One of my initial goals for my jewelry was to work with unique materials. Given the unique nature of the patterns and color variations in shells no two earrings are identical which I think is part of their charm. The shells sway gracefully and make a sweet sound that is so faint only the wearer gets to hear its whisper.

These coral and white shell earrings are a combination of several different shell varieties. Nautilus cone shells in a coral spotted pattern, peachy conical top shells, white natural Nassau shells and small strawberry conch shell rounds create a lovely coral and peachy-white palate.

I hand tie the seashells that I use to make my shell earrings to waxed Irish linen thread in an array of colors. For these earrings I chose a dark rust color to create a contrast to the lighter coral, peach and white colors in the shells. Each shell is spaced expressly to mirror the opposite earring.

Julie Herbert from EveryoneLovesGiftsO states one of my favourite earrings are made by resin. Each earring I make with resin is different but these have beautiful purple glitter in them for extra sparkle, especially in day light. There are four shapes to choose from, flowers, circles, square and love heart.
Each earring can have a different meaning to the wearer. With the glitter although great for the day they can also be incorporated into night wear.
The other special thing about these earring are you don’t just have to have purple, you can choose from a range of different colored glitters to make it even more personal.

Nancy Duncan from EponasCrystals discusses that she  loves dangle earrings. I guess it’s because my hair is long and I must have something of substance or you can’t see them. These unique earrings from my shop combine two of my favorite colors, turquoise and golden tones. Tiny cathedral windows with a verdigris wash, feather charms (another favorite), and small brass and gemstone beads.

Melissa R from missy69 says I don’t make a ton of earrings, but I have been trying to convince myself to do more. I am a ring, and bracelet kind of girl, but all the ladies know earrings make your outfit. I love dangle earrings, the most. Flirty, fun, and feminine is what I call dangles. This pair was made with neutral colors for Fall outfits. Perfect for professional wear, or a fun night out.

Heather Barber from MooseintheMint states I like to make fun novelty earrings, so they are often a mixture of Lego bricks, games pieces and other bits and pieces.
These are made from Lego plates and vintage buttons to give a slight retro look.

Pam Maggio from PamPawsJewelry says these earrings are in a rose color which is trending this year.

They are made from Rose Quartz and Rhodochrosite semi-precious gemstone beads and all Sterling Silver.

They are fancy so would be great for evenings out, festivals, weddings, or as shower or bridal gifts!

The cute flower ear wires give them a Woodland or Boho touch!

Welcome New Team Members For June – Part One

Contributor post by Dawn from DeeDeeDeesigns
The team had many new members join during June in anticipation of the annual Christmas in July event. Please join us in welcoming them to our fantastic team! Visit their shop, fave some items, maybe even share some shops/items on your social media channels!!
And here are some of our new members for June!

I joined with the intention of participating the Christmas In July promo.
I am a self-taught woodworker/furniture maker who has spent a fair amount of time and effort refining a design for a folding stool/table. In time it will be available in three heights and will be available with a matching table.
What makes it special? While it has the appearance of simplicity, the accuracy required while making put it more in the reals of engineered rather than just made. The versatility of the item is one of its stand out features. A seat, a table, a bedside, this can be all these things and more. As you can gather, I’m quite proud of the design

Food And Drink – #CIJParty 2016

Contributor post by Michelle of EviesToolEmporium

Good morning everyone! Another new addition to our third annual Etsy Christmas In July Party this year is food and! What is a party without refreshments?

I invited members of the Etsy Christmas In July members to share their food and drink items.

Eleni from LenasCakes says:

Actually is this one. Totally CIJ , right?

As you all see it’s Santa. And his belt.

Making it at first, I thought it would be one of my Xmas items, for those who want their cupcakes decorated in a Holiday gathering.

Well, although I have sold it for Xmas season, it has most sales-believe it or not!- in July! There are a lot of people who love Christmas and they don’t want to celebrate only in December, but all year round!

(I’m sending one set of those next week, that’s why it’s the first I thought).

Have a great #CIJ Party everyone! And a lovely summer!

Michelle Emma Kay from EmmaKayInks says:

In April I participated in “Creative Sprint (www.creativesprint.co/). Each day you are emailed a prompt and you make something in response to it.

The prompt for one day was “make something from a collection”. I went into the kitchen and saw my partner’s left over popcorn. I photographed a collection of them and drew them.

It was then that I realised that like snowflakes and finger prints, every piece of pop corn is a little bit different. I also enjoyed the way their forms looked when they are a bit abstracted. And thus, it became the basis of my first post it note design.

I have always seen cups decorated with fabric here and there. I thought it was something that I would like to try to make and came up with this fabric cup sleeve. I put a few in the shop for various holidays as well.

So, I love tea. And I have children, so I often get cold tea! Tea cosy’s seemed the way forward. Since this is my first year joining in with christmas in July I thought I’d get the ball rolling by starting with some fun festive silliness. Why not turn the tea pot into a Christmas pudding?! Just don’t cover it in brandy and set fire to it. Won’t make your tea taste better!

Fall and Winter holiday beverages from my favorite coffee shop are something I look forward to every year. My favorite, the Peppermint Mocha Latte, inspired this piece of holiday decor in my shop.

All of my signs are hand painted and designed by myself. I created this piece to look like a chalkboard to coordinate with rustic holiday decor. I use a stretched gallery canvas and permanent materials to make the sign. Lettering cannot be erased.

My shop opened in April, so this will be my first year participating in CIJ. I’m excited for the promotion! I’m still creating a few more items to add to my inventory to join this holiday piece!

Lia Russo from Ghirlandiamo says:

Come, friends, come, eat and drink with Pulcinella!

Pulcinella is the old Naples character, he has a great personality and his own philosophy and ….is always hungry.

He’s aware of his problems, but always smiling.

He’s disrespectful and makes fun at powerful people.

I wanted to honor him with something non-conventional, so I created this centerpiece, in cooperation with a talented ceramics crafter from Vietri sul Mare*.

And so was born my Pulcinella, the Naples king of the table!

A piece for connoisseurs, who will be able to appreciate the creativity of the whole piece, the added value of ceramics from Vietri sul Mare*, the so thorough miniatures.

It’s one-of-a-kind centerpiece, where a fine ceramic Pulcinella, the Naples character, and so many incredible miniatures stand out.

This rustic Mediterranean centerpiece is a parade of typical Neapolitan food and Pulcinella stands in the middle, ready to enjoy them all.

In one hand he holds a glass of wine, from his arm a salami is hanging and he’s surrounded by a lot of many other local delights: anchovies, tomatoes, salami, bread, eggs, apples.

Couldn’t Pulcinella eat any pizza? No, definitely! He got three!
And with all this food, a good wine in a wicker bottle.

This centerpiece will be perfect in the middle of any table, bringing cheerfulness at the first glance and adding a touch of Neapolitan life.

* Vietri sul Mare is a small village on the Amalfi Coast, very close to my town Salerno.

It was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1997.

It’s famous in Italy and all over the world for ceramic tiles and all kinds of decorated crockery.

It’s ceramic traditions have their roots in the Etruscan period.
