Show Us Your Workspace: BrittDesign

Contributor post by Dawn from DeeDeeDeesigns

Today we visit the workspace of Linda Britt from BrittDesign who makes a great range of handcrafted jewellery and accessories…  Please visit her shop and favourite some items, maybe even buy something!

Here’s what she says about her workspace:

There is a long room in my house that once was a porch I think. It has windows on 3 sides and I get to use half of it for my studio. The light is wonderful and I get to watch the deer, squirrels and a variety of birds.

I’ve made a U-shaped work area with stations for polymer clay, metal clay and tools for finishing my jewelry. There are bookcases for my supplies on the one full wall.

I love working and playing in this space.

Hi, just joined the team. Thank you for having me!

I am a crochet designer and recently quit my day job to focus on designing. My current favourite item in my shop – and it changes as each new design becomes my favourite! – is this shawl pattern.

I love it because it’s my favourite colour combination of mustard and blue and it’s perfect for this time of year. I’ve been wearing it a lot in the last couple of weeks.

Hi, my name is Natalia.

Here is my hand made earrings freshwater pearls teardrops wire wrapped in gorgeous ornate filigree sterling silver.

Mairi from mairidesign says

Hi, I’m looking forward to seeing everyone’s work.

I design stained glass home decor and jewellery and have been preparing my Christmas decorations for the upcoming months.

Here is a set of three flat glass baubles to hang on the festive tree or in the window. I made them as presents for students last Christmas and immediately received another three bulk orders for office gifts and window garlands.

The glass has a really beautiful iridescence.

Welcome New Team Members!

Hiya, I have been on Etsy for a few years now but this is the first year I have taken part #EtsyCIJ. I just love Christmas and to be able to make Christmas items in July, that’s a bonus! Here is my favourite Christmas make. I used mine for almost 6 years now.

Thank you I have an art shop in Etsy where you can find original paintings and prints. My shop has been accepted to the wholesale category. I am an artist working and living in Israel. Have exhibited word wide. For now I look for selling my art as my studio is full! I prepared some starter packs in my shop and some famed prints that could use as Christmas gifts …Please enter and see my art …hope you will like it. I will be glad to receive comments.

Hi, I’ve been an Etsy seller for many years! I create and design chakra gemstone jewelry! Thank you for accepting me into the team! Here’s one of my bracelets that I created with Murano glass that I purchased in Italy during my travels!

Dorothy Lollipop from DorothyLollipopKnits says

Hello I am Dorothy Lollipop…. my name is my brand! I market my knitted toys as ‘Unique’ because I design and write all the patterns myself. Having built up a range of unique hand-knitted toys over many years I began selling on Etsy in 2013 Some of my toys have been used to support charities in the UK and Australia. They have been used as props for professional photographers and for stage productions. I also do a variety of commission work and have designed two knitted characters for a Children’s book. Each of my toys can be custom made using any choice of colours and details. All my knitted toys have been professionally tested and CE labelled “safe and suitable for babies and children of all ages”. It’s so nice to have been accepted into the CIJ Team My favourite Christmas item is the knitted reindeer…. I love making them as each one has it’s own unique character and cheeky smile!

Hello everyone, My name is Jurgita and i am from Lithuania. I am making stone beaded jewelry and hair accessories. I love travelling, it inspires my creations. My brand name – “Ta-Daa Accessories”. I have my studio at home and sell my creations online. I am happy to be a part of CIJ and spread my creations around the world!

Hi my name is Mikshita and I’m from Surrey, U.K. I am owner and maker of Small special moments. We make unique message in a bottle and this is our first ever year doing Christmas in July. Thank you for letting us be a part of it. We started last year October(fairs only) and have now decided to concentrate on our Etsy shop this year.
There are plenty of message in a bottle on Etsy so what makes us so unique? We are the very few who hand foil each personalised message with customers chosen colour, have the message hanging perfectly with or without a charm. We offer our customers the chance to build their own bottle and offer option to have it freestanding, hanging or as a magnet. Last year’s best sellers over Christmas were these little beauties.

#CIJPopUpMarket #2 Shop – Mrs. A. from 2aEmporium

2aEmporium

1. What is the name of your shop and where do you look for inspiration?

The name of my shop is 2aEmporium. My shop is a blend of vintage and handmade. My inspiration for vintage is just a love of history merged with the excitement of finding useful and pretty things from the past. My inspiration for handmade has to do with usefulness as well. I like to create handmade items that incorporate my love of vintage.

2. How has your shop evolved over time?

That’s a good question. I started out just selling handmade, but found I really enjoyed the hunt for vintage and wanted to share my finds with new homes. Over the past few years, I think I have evolved as a “picker” so my shop has evolved along with me.

3. What do you love most about your work?

I like having my own business. In my case, not only do my husband and I work at this together, but my daughter is a shop contributor, too. It is a lot of fun brainstorming ideas for handmade and hitting the estate sales together.

4. What motivating music do you listen to? Share your playlist that gets and keeps you going!

I don’t necessarily listen to music while I’m working on my shop business. When I do listen to music, it is Praise and Worship music. I like a variety of Christian artists.

5. What book are you reading right now and where is your favorite place to read?

I am reading the Book of Psalms right now. I’m an on-the-go reader. I have it downloaded on my phone, so I can whip out my phone and read as opportunity arises. If I have a long period of time to read, I usually read sitting in my favorite chair.

The Twelve Days of Christmas – #CIJParty 2017

Contributor post by Dawn from DeeDeeDeesigns

We have a wide variety of Etsy sellers in our Christmas in July team, and this means we have a great range of handmade and vintage products to choose from for the 12 Days of Christmas.

I asked team members if they have an item in their shop that relates to the 12 days of Christmas? And here we go:

And here are the 12 days of Christmas!

Twelve Drummers Drumming

patontheback from patontheback says

I love Christmas in July because we’re expecting 110° plus, and I can go on a virtual holiday thinking about cool items outside my hot desert!
Twelve drummers drumming- I’ve always been a percussion instrument fan, and this fabric makes me think of not only the twelve days of Christmas, but a little drummer. Happy holidays!

Eleven Pipers Piping

How about these lovely vintage carolers singing the 12 Days of Christmas?

Ten Lords a Leaping

Nine Ladies Dancing

The ninth of Christmas – nine ladies dancing! These colourful dancing charms are great for jewellery design, card making, gift wrapping, bunting and a wide range of craft projects.

KATERINA ILIAKI from OnceUponJewelsCo says

Nine ladies dancing were the nine fruits of the Holy Spirit-Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness, and Self Control. This necklace also symbolizes the joy of love and freedom. Dance is an expression and combination of all of these sentiments.

Susan-Sharon Passmore from MsPDesignsUSA says

On the ninth day of Christmas my true love gave to me– nine ladies dancing. Well, we actually have 13 ladies dancing the ballet on this fun nursery quilt, but who’s counting?

Eight Maids a Milking
Eight maids a milking – need to have some modesty and comfort in these slip shorts worn under their frocks while milking the cows… I love CIJ as it makes so much sense as an Australian Etsy seller to enjoy all the delicious Christmas foods while we are in our winter.. pudding, nom!

Stock Lane Studio from StockLaneStudio says

Well, it’s a bit of a stretch, but here’s my number 8 in the night sky – if you look closely you can see the Milky Way!

Seven Swans a Swimming

This pretty swan has her baby next to her and a child. The cream and gold colors remind me of an elegant Christmas.

Six Geese a Laying

Five Golden Rings

KATERINA ILIAKI from OnceUponJewelsCo says

The five golden rings represents the great love of God in sending a Savior. It is a very powerful day for me as I adore Christmas and Christmas time. It is a unique opportunity to remind ourselves to love each other, to help and respect everything that has life in it.

Five golden rings. 5 glasses, each has with a gold ring at the top.

Four Calling Birds

Emma Kaufmann from StudioEmmaKaufmann says

I love watching cute little robins chattering outside my window and all excited for Christmas against a stunning snowing background. This artwork was done in acrylic inks and is now available as a print to complete a festive look.

I love celebrating Christmas in July…I live in Baltimore where summers are sweltering so having a Christmas in July pool party certainly helps beat the heat!

Three French Hens

I love this Christmas song. I have a wire basket hen to go with the song.
This hen is an egg picking  asket and can be used to display Christams ornaments, flowers, wooden eggs and the like.

Two Turtle Doves
One dove in each ear makes a pair of turtle doves
Two antique gold Raz Doves featured on a Christmas wreath.

and a Partridge in a Pear Tree

Linda from LazyYVintage says
On the first day of Christmas My True Love Gave To Me….a partridge in a pear tree!
This is first in the 12 Days of Christmas series for Precious Moments. I love Christmas in July team and event. The team is a fun and motivating way to market our shops while checking out other members’ shops. I love the event as a way to up the ante in marketing during a usually slow period for vintage buying. Always helps in recognition and in sales!
Not exactly a partridge in a pear tree, but how about this “in style” galvanized bucket planter with a vintage inspired pear fruit label.

Carol Braden-Williams from SilverTrove says

This may be a stretch, but it kinda looks like a partridge.
Partridge same family as dove

What’s In Your Bag

Contributor post by Julie from EveryoneLovesGifts0

I don’t know about you but I love having a nosey in other people’s bags, I don’t know why but I have always found it interesting to see what people carry around with them.
So that being said for a chance to be featured in this blog post we at CIJ would love to see pictures and know what you carry in your bag.

* What do you class as your essential items and why?
* Why do you carry what you do?
* Do you carry anything sentimental in your bag?
* Do you carry something for good luck?
* Do you carry anything that is handmade?

Karen Hafel from timetalentjewels says; The bag itself is handmade and is sentimental because I made it with my own two hands. It is just the right size and best of all no one else has one like it. It is one-of-a-kind. It is felted wool with flower buttons. A fun purse to carry and have people say “where did you get that purse.”

One of a kind bag

Carola Bartz from CarolaBartz says; I always have a small journal or notebook and a pen in my bag. Whenever I find inspiration I can jot it down and work with that later. It can function as a sketchbook as well. I can write down phone numbers and email addresses, make notes about places I want to photograph etc. A journal never needs recharging and it never “freezes” or shuts down unexpectedly – and it’s smaller than some smart phones.

Journal

Stock Lane Studio’s from StockLaneStudio says; Yay its spring and I have officially removed the pair of hand knit gloves from my bag. So happy the weather is warming up. With that in mind, I always carry sunglasses and a bit of sun block in my bag. Snow can be blinding, so those essentials are in my bag even in the winter.
Believe it or not, I still carry real old-fashioned books. I like to read and feel this is giving my eyes a break from electronics.

I also carry a mini bag that can fold up to nothing and I can whip out when needed. Do not need anymore plastic bags!
I keep 2 zippered pouches in my bag, one for electronics and writing essentials and one for toiletries/cosmetics. What’s not in my bag: a comb or brush. Hmm, what does that say about me?

My sentimental items are the photos of my family in my wallet. And the bag itself. I’ve had it for 20 years and its been around the world with me. It’s really well made and I just love it.

Mini Bag – fold into nothing

Edna from AddaSplashofColour says; I cannot survive without my reading glasses so I always carry it in my glasses case. It is padded to protect the glasses and makes it easy to find.

Glass case

Cindy Blakesiee from AllThatCraftyJazz says; This is a very large bag. Would be great as a weekender bag or just to carry all the stuff you need to go to the beach!
