#CIJPopUpMarket #1 Shop – CartoCreative from CartoCreative

CartoCreative

1. What is the name of your shop and where do you look for inspiration?

Our shop name is CartoCreative. We love travelling, so we don’t have to look far for inspiration. Every place we visit or want to visit eventually becomes part of our collection.

2. How has your shop evolved over time?

Our shop is always evolving. We are always working on new products and ideas.

3. What do you love most about your work?

I love making our customers happy. It’s so rewarding to receive positive feedback from something I’ve put so much work into.

4. What motivating music do you listen to? Share your playlist that gets and keeps you going!

I have a bunch of motivating playlists depending on the task at hand. For most work, I like to listen to upbeat electronic music, for running I like anything with an upbeat tempo, and for working when I’m a little more stressed, I like classical music.

5. What book are you reading right now and where is your favorite place to read?

I am reading The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde. My favorite place to read is outside. I love being in fresh, open air in the summer.

#CIJPopUpMarket #1 Shop – Judith from FabriArts

FabriArts

1. What is the name of your shop and where do you look for inspiration?

My shop is FabriArts. I am inspired when i see a particular fabric in a quilt shop, or view inspiring quilts, embroidery and other fabric arts on blogs and other social media platforms.

2. How has your shop evolved over time?

I started by selling mostly small items such as my fiber art cards and small wallets since I wasn’t sure I wanted to invest in larger and pricier items. Now my best sellers are table linens (table runners, place mats, mugs rugs and coasters) and quilted Advent calendars although I still keep my shop stocked with the smaller items.

3. What do you love most about your work?

I love working with fabrics and threads. It’s exciting to see something come to fruition that I’ve been imagining in my head. Although I use a quilt design software to plan many of my projects it’s still never the same as my finished works.

4. What motivating music do you listen to? Share your playlist that gets and keeps you going!

Alternative rock is my go-to music style. Imagine Dragons to the Barenaked Ladies, Mumford and Sons and Fade Chromatic (my son’s band) are always on my playlist as well as some more folk style artists like Enya, Loreena MCKennnit and Florence and the Machine.

5. What book are you reading right now and where is your favorite place to read?

I admit I like to read chick lit. I’ve just discovered Sonali Dev as an author and I’m reading “A Change of Heart” which is about the illegal trade of organs for transplant. I always read in bed before I go to sleep and in the summer one of my favorite places to read is on the deck at the cottage overlooking the lake.

#CIJPopUpMarket #1 Shop – Diana from DianaSianCrafts

DianaSianCrafts

1. What is the name of your shop and where do you look for inspiration?

DianaSianCrafts – my inspiration mainly comes from my children and my customers – my love of all things fantasy and geek!

2. How has your shop evolved over time?

I started my shop when I was only making jewellery – over the past two years I have found a love of all things Christmas and also a passion for making paper flowers which are mainly incorporated into wedding flowers/bouquets.

3. What do you love most about your work?

I love how every day is different – from making Christmas items in the summer to engaging with customers to create one off flowers for their wedding day.

4. What motivating music do you listen to? Share your playlist that gets and keeps you going!

I cannot work in silence (having 5 children makes this impossible anyway!) I normally have current easy listening hits playing (loving Ed Sherran at the moment) or Netflix (I am secretly addicted to anything with vampires or zombies!).

5. What book are you reading right now and where is your favorite place to read?

Celebrating 20 years of Harry Potter and re-reading them all – my last little treat to myself was a full box set of all the books.

#CIJPopUpMarket #1 Shop – RosesWorkshop from RosesWorkshop

RosesWorkshop

1. What is the name of your shop and where do you look for inspiration?

My shop is called Roses Workshop. I work with British wools and wool fabric such as Harris tweed. Often I am inspired by the colours and textures of my materials and how they fit with the seasonal landscape.

2. How has your shop evolved over time?

I started out selling just within the UK, but soon expanded to International sales. From knitted hats and gloves I moved on to housewares such as cushions and tea cosies, then more complex designs such as clocks and lampshades.

3. What do you love most about your work?

I love how every day is different. When I switch on the computer in the morning I have no idea what has sold on the other side of the world overnight. I am open to custom order requests, and I love hearing the varied ideas of my customers.

4. What motivating music do you listen to? Share your playlist that gets and keeps you going!

My radio is set to Smooth Radio, mostly easy listening and oldies but some new stuff too. I find this gives me a nice mix of music and news without being too distracting. Sometimes I’ll have on a classic whodunit instead, such as Miss Marple or Sherlock Holmes, so I can listen to the story while I work.

5. What book are you reading right now and where is your favorite place to read?

I like to read fantasy novels about worlds a bit different from our own. I love Terry Pratchett’s quirky sense of humour, and I’m currently re-reading I Shall Wear Midnight. I read in bed in the morning with my first cup of tea of the day, as this eases me into the new day in a positive frame of mind and ready to create beautiful things.

#CIJPopUpMarket #1 Shop – Anne Irene Angelshaug from angelshaug

angelshaug

1. What is the name of your shop and where do you look for inspiration?

My shop is called “angelshaug”. I have always enjoyed “drawing stories” it is what I still do. I have fun creating, I like the challenges to my mind, and also the technical challenges it makes me face.

2. How has your shop evolved over time?

It has not changed much. The only thing that changes is the artwork.

3. What do you love most about your work?

It is a medium for me to communicate to others my thoughts and feelings around subjects that I find
important. One of the subjects that “drives” me and I feel there should be a lot more focus on is the state of the planet and the destructive side of man. Again and again, we make bad choices with horrendous consequences for this beautiful planet and this saddens me more than I can say.

There is a lot of this in my work.

4. What motivating music do you listen to? Share your playlist that gets and keeps you going!

I usually listen to audio books or podcasts.

5. What book are you reading right now and where is your favorite place to read?

Fiction, fantasy, politics, current events or philosophy. I love it all.

#CIJPopUpMarket #1 Shop – Veronika from TapsikDesign

TapsikDesign

1. What is the name of your shop and where do you look for inspiration?

My shop is called TapsikDesign. Often i am inspired by some small things i see around me. And i am starting to think how can i put it inside my own creations.

2. How has your shop evolved over time?

I started to make small grapevine wreaths with flowers, next were deco mesh wreaths, yarn and tulle wreaths. I learned how to make felt flowers to put onto yarn and tulle wreaths. Next were lantern swags and other home decor such as table centerpieces. Nowadays I make many of my wreaths embellishments myself. So i can give my customers an unique, original peace. Also started to make chocolate flower bouquets.

3. What do you love most about your work?

Loving the change. Today i make summer wreath but tomorrow it can be fall, Christmas. Always thinking how i can improve myself or make something new. Giving myself challenges to create something different and new.

4. What motivating music do you listen to? Share your playlist that gets and keeps you going!

Well, I don´t listen to music during my work. I watch old Czech and Slovak movies, shows on Youtube.

#CIJPopUpMarket #1 Shop – Luiza from MinkuLUL

MinkuLUL

1. What is the name of your shop and where do you look for inspiration?

My shop name is MinkuLUL. I look for inspiration for silk painting in nature and Art Nouveau style.

2. How has your shop evolved over time?

Oh my, looking back it was an amazing journey. I started with few handpainted silk scarfs I did as a side hobby and a lot of hand painted blouses but it turned out that natural silk is in demand! Now I am striving to get all the latest trends on my scarves: the latest hit is a scarf painted with pattern of wings.

3. What do you love most about your work?

I love the painting process, it’s pure and magical. Why do I have to sleep? I could paint all night.

4. What motivating music do you listen to? Share your playlist that gets and keeps you going!

Italian pop music is my favorite. They have most amazing music.

5. What book are you reading right now and where is your favorite place to read?

I must say I don’t have a lot of time to read for myself! Instead, I read for my lil baby boy and there are a lot of funny children stories with beautiful pictures. Right now I am in the middle of Villa Triste by Patrick Modiano – this one is just for me!

CanisArtStudio

1. What is the name of your shop and where do you look for inspiration?

My shop name is CanisArtStudio. “Canis” this is the Latin name of the dog. I’m a pet lover. Dogs, horses and other animals are my passions. I have an English Setter kennel and my mission is to immortalize of animals and nature.

2. How has your shop evolved over time?

Contact with customers is very inspiring for me. I started my business showing my paintings at dog shows. I went to international shows in Europe and met many people from different countries. I was looking for a place to contact my fans online and I found Etsy. Because many people also asked me horses, cats and other animals so I started offering more topics and more things. I get bored quickly, so I’m still doing something new. I am currently offering more oil paintings ready to hang and more things ready to ship.

3. What do you love most about your work?

Every order is a challenge. I love this moment when I get pet photos and the process of image creation begins. This is a struggle with matter to make the vision a reality. Sometimes I do a reconstruction based on a series of archival photos.

4. What motivating music do you listen to? Share your playlist that gets and keeps you going!

I’m a guitarist and I like to listen to guitar music, I like rock and pop music. My work requires extreme concentration and listening to classical music helps me.

5. What book are you reading right now and where is your favorite place to read?

Great inspiration for me are Monty Roberts books “The Man Who Listens to Horses” and other. I also wrote and published my book about behavior of animals. Now I want to translate my book into English and prepare the next books. That is why now I have a lot to learn about business and read business books. David Allen “Getting This Done” is my last.
