1. What makes Christmas special to you?

Spending time with family and friends is what makes Christmas special for me. I love to go out to eat with friends and share some time together as our gifts to each other.

2. How do you make Christmas as special to others?

I love to help my family with anything they need. I will help with food prep or even wrapping packages. I also try and get them gifts they have asked for.

3. What are three words that best describe Christmas to you?

Family, food and fun!

4. What are you most looking forward to for Christmas 2018?

I am hoping that my uncle can come for Christmas this year as he had to miss last year. I am also looking forward to all kinds of good food.

#CIJPopUpMarket #1 Shop – Diana from DianaSianCrafts

DianaSianCrafts

1. What is the name of your shop and where do you look for inspiration?

DianaSianCrafts – my inspiration mainly comes from my children and my customers – my love of all things fantasy and geek!

2. How has your shop evolved over time?

I started my shop when I was only making jewellery – over the past two years I have found a love of all things Christmas and also a passion for making paper flowers which are mainly incorporated into wedding flowers/bouquets.

3. What do you love most about your work?

I love how every day is different – from making Christmas items in the summer to engaging with customers to create one off flowers for their wedding day.

4. What motivating music do you listen to? Share your playlist that gets and keeps you going!

I cannot work in silence (having 5 children makes this impossible anyway!) I normally have current easy listening hits playing (loving Ed Sherran at the moment) or Netflix (I am secretly addicted to anything with vampires or zombies!).

5. What book are you reading right now and where is your favorite place to read?

Celebrating 20 years of Harry Potter and re-reading them all – my last little treat to myself was a full box set of all the books.

Nature Gifts

Contributor post by Julie from EveryoneLovesGifts0

Spring is nearly upon us followed by the lovely summer months. I love this time of year with the sun shining on our faces, it makes us all happy. But it is also a time to take notice of nature around us, nature can be of trees, flowers or nature animals themselves.

Here at CIJ we want to know what gifts you have that reflect the theme ‘nature’ and tell us a little about your gift.

Dawn Whitehand from DeeDeeDeesigns says: This necklace is made from clay, which is from the Earth, and features two pendants in the shape of leaves. The leaves were smoke fired in a bonfire using tree branches, leaves and various other natural materials, such as pine cones.

So this necklace certainly is of and from nature!

Stock Lane Studio from StockLaneStudio says: No matter how old I am, I’ll always love collecting rocks. The image for this zipper pouch was taken on a rock hunt on the coast of Maine. Perfect vessel for our skipping rocks.

Candy Rauber from WickedlyCreative says: This little hand embroidered ornament represents the nature of Spring in a fun colorful way. Flowers blooming and a bird (which I imagine chirping) brings thoughts of warmer weather.

Our magnolia has just bloomed and we picked all of the flowers in our newest bridal listings. Time to start gardening and the best way to relax after a hot day in the yard is with a cold ice tea!

Carola Bartz from CarolaBartz says, For me, the ocean is one of the big forces of nature. I am lucky to live close by the Pacific Ocean and whenever I spend time at the coast I am captivated by its stunning beauty. A walk on the beach shows me all the treasures nature has to offer right here: driftwood, shells, sand dollars, algae, small crabs.

This mixed media painting was inspired by the interestingly shaped piece of driftwood I found at one of our beaches. Everything else evolved around it. I added some shells and a sea star as well. The quote by Kate Chopin was the final touch and fits perfectly.

Karen Hafel from timetalentjewels says; What more fun in the springtime than to go fishing down by the lake? I had the privilege when I was growing up to have my very own lake so boy oh boy the stories I can tell of the fish I caught!

Barbara from MermaidsHatBox says; I love the spring, when in my garden the flowers begin to sprout.
My garden is a little bit chaotic. I have hardly a plan and plant where I find place. So it is often a surprise in the spring, where some plants sprout from the soil.
The purse from pure new wool is hand-knitted and felted, then embroidered and decorated with beads. The bag will be closed by a button which colour suits the embroidery.

Homemade Goodness For The Season

Contributor Post by Sheila and Shannon of BeadyEyedBird

If you’re like me, now is the time of year you get that irresistible urge to buy, make (and eat) special treats not common at other times of the year. For me, it’s Christmas cookies and candies, ‘comfort soups’, fancy pastries and pies….well, you get the idea.

What are your treasured homemade treats of the holiday season? Our teamies shared some of their favorites and also some items from their shops related to holiday baking, cooking, candy-making, or eating!!

Melissa R from missy69 said:
My Grandma used to make the best Magic Cookie Bars, and they are still my favorite She made something called Jumbo cookies too, but I can not find a proper recipe anywhere for them. The recipe for Magic Cookie Bars, is www.eaglebrand.com/recipe-detail/magiccookiebars-3934 here. Of course you will need a giving plate to give them to friends and family. I am glad to help you there.

My friend gave me this recipe several years ago. These are simple hazelnut butter cookies but they taste so good. We bake them every Christmas since then.

Here is a recipe or if you’d like to see the full version with photographs please visit my blog socksandmittens.blogspot.com/2012/12/christmas-butter-cookies.html

Hazelnut butter cookies:

Ingredients:
1 cup butter at room temperature
1/2 cup sugar
2 tea-spoon vanilla
2 cups flour
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup chopped hazelnuts
Powdered sugar for dusting

Cream butter and sugar. Add vanilla, flour and salt. Fold in nuts. Knead a dough to make it smooth. Place the dough ball in refrigerator for 2 hours.

Preheat your oven to 350’F. Line the baking sheet with foil. If your dough is too hard cut it with knife to form a strips and then cut it to even pieces. Roll the pieces into balls about the same size and place on ungreased foil about 1″ apart.

Bake at 350’F for about 15 minutes or until golden brown on the bottom. Let them cool completely and dust them with the powdered sugar.

One item from my second shop related to baking is this vintage glass rolling-pin.

Next we visit Marion Walsh from BlueButterflyCrafts who creates unique handmade ceramic gifts.
Pleas visit her shop and share some love or maybe buy a gift!
Here’s what Marion has to say about her workspace :

I work in my conservatory (also my dining room!), with clay and glazes stored in the downstairs toilet as it gets too hot (or cold) in the conservatory. I also dry my work in there. I store finished stock in the conservatory and in boxes under or on top of furniture throughout the house. Today, there’s a foul smell outside, I can’t open the windows; it’s sunny and the kiln is cooling down: conservatory = sauna!
