There are many items in our shop that could be considered for the theme … Up in the Air. We have song birds, ducks, and butterflies that have been hand burned and/or carved and/or painted, depending upon the item. So, it was hard choosing which one to highlight. I chose this butterfly and floral sculpture because it is one of my favorite items. I love the contrast colors of yellow and black on the swallowtail butterfly. I also love its hues of pink on the hibiscus flower.

Przemila K from CanisArtStudio says

I have called this large oil painting the “Forest Spirit”. I painted a bird and a tree that are connected to the background of the blue sky and clouds. This is a little surrealistic picture and presents the tree in a somewhat abstract way, which is also the texture of the canvas and the tree leaf structure. All these elements intermingle. The colors of sky and nature are calming. The picture is very decorative and creates an atmosphere of relaxation. It will be a great decoration of the living room wall or another representative interior.

Hot Air Balloons Dog Bandana

Mairi from mairidesign says

The dragonfly symbolizes change and the perspective of self realization, representing an emotional maturity of wisdom, transformation and adaptability. As a creature of the wind, it reminds us to go beyond what we see on the surface and look deeper into the implications and aspects of life – but to keep a light, positive outlook even in our darkest moments. Enjoy this stained glass dragonfly as it catches the sun in your room or garden.

Spring Is The Favorite Season Of Przemila K from CanisArtStudio

CanisArtStudio

1. What is your favorite season and why?

My favorite season of the year is spring. I like it when the day is getting longer and nature wakes up. For me, this is the time when the best light for painting is. I paint with nature and I always look forward to painting flowers when they are in the greatest bloom. I love when birds sing because I also paint birds and I like to watch them.

2. What season is it now where you live? Have you seen a visible sign of the season changing?

I live in central Europe and I am currently in summer. This year is very hot and August is the time when there is a lot of fruit, and farmers harvest. This year there is a lot of fruit, especially apples and plums. This is the first sign of the coming autumn. Today, I also noticed a cold morning – it is also a sign that the end of summer is approaching.

3. What item in your shop represents your favorite season and the story behind it?

In my shop, there are many items representing different seasons, because I paint nature: animals, birds, flowers, etc. You can also find a lot of spring paintings and painted clocks with birds. But today I chose this pastel painting to tell the story of a little flower. This is the “Golden Lily” (Lilium Martagon). This plant is very rare and, in my country, it is under legal protection.
In the place where I live, are steep limestone rocks and on one of them is an old castle. There is also a legend. The owner of this castle hunted in this area together with his servant. This servant – a young knight candidate found the entrance to a cave full of treasures. The jealous ruler knocked him off the rock. When he came back home, a viper bit him. He could not be saved and after his death, the castle was ruined. No one else found the treasure…
One day, I was walking with my dogs in this forest and I found this little flower. This picture is my interpretation and illustration of the legend.
The painting was presented during my own exhibition and I attach to the parcel a catalog from this exhibition.

4. What seasonal traditions are celebrated in your part of the world?

I live in Poland and in my country, at this time of year, there are two traditional feasts: Our Lady of the Herb (15 August) and Harvest Festival.
On that day, people make bouquets of flowers and herbs. This day is an official celebration and a day off from work.

Top Back-To-School Trends For Kids: Etsy

Contributor post by Michelle of EviesToolEmporium

I am fascinated by trends. Are you? There are weather trends, work place trends, business trends, job trends, food trends, real estate trends, hair trends, fashion trends color trends and so on.

The definition of a trend is a general direction in which something is developing or changing. In college I took several classes on trends. I remember distinctly studying pre peak – peak – post peak timelines. I find trends intriguing. They pique my curiosity.

Trends unite us. Give us a common ground. A connecting point.

This article is inspired by the Top Back-To-School Trends For Kids: Etsy article on the Etsy blog.

Inclusive Toys, Llama Drama, Self-Care For Kids, Little Change-Makers, Rainbow Bright, Hands-On DIYs, and Milestone Signs are the Top Back-To-School Trends For Kids on Etsy! Here are a few trend inspired items from members of the Etsy Christmas In July team.

Inclusive Toys

Przemila K from CanisArtStudio says:

Children, especially teenagers, love to collect their little treasures. I recommend colorful boxes for school supplies and boxes for various other small treasures. I’m painting my boxes by hand and you can also order boxes with your favorite motif: pet or other.

Self-Care For Kids

Carola Bartz from CarolaBartz says:

When my daughter was little and she had to go back to school after the long and wonderful summer break I used to put little notes in her lunchbox that told her how much I love her and that I wish her good luck in school. I also did that when she had a test or a presentation etc. So I made a set of six lunchbox mini notes with a shamrock for good luck. They are folded square cards that allow the parent to write a short personal message inside. Love and good luck is a timeless trend!

Little Change Makers

Kristen from KestrelCollection says:

This necklace is perfect for a new middle-school student.

It fits with the 2018 back to school themes of self-care for kids and little change makers. A great confident booster for your tween! Give them this one of a kind gift and tell them to Read for the Stars! The only limit to our destination is how big we dream.

mistycat1234 from carolinagirlz2 says:

I always looked forward to the first day of school, it was when I was able to reconnect with all my friends in the days before social media, cell phones, and the internet!

Contributor post by Mairi from mairidesign

In preparation for the busy seasons of back to school, Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas, wouldn’t it be nice to stock up on all the little treats that allow us to cope with the stresses of those times? Providing ourselves with moments of relaxation and improving our wellbeing can be very enjoyable when we know that we have already planned for them. Whether you hope to go to a countryside spa or just find an hour, here and there, to pamper yourself, let’s get through the next few months as stress-free as possible.

The Christmas in July team would like to present their items that will help our Relaxation and Wellbeing plans.

Matte Finish

Contributor post by Alicia from AliciasFindings

Matte Finish is free of shine, resulting in muted tones and colors. There are many paints, stains and such that can be used in making our items.

Przemila from CanisArtStudio says this original oil painting is painted impasto and knife technique. The image surface is matte and traces of the brush and knife are visible. It is a very noble and decorative technique. The coloring of the image is toned down. Green and shades of gray create an atmosphere of peace and rest. This modern painting will be a perfect complement to modern furniture in your living room, office or other representative interiors. The color of the frame can be chosen according to your preferences.

Nude Original Oil Painting

Sue and Misty from shabbyshopgirls said the 1960s and 70’s brought a wave of shiny metal and plastics into the home and workplace. Prior to that, many objects were natural or flat finish painted wood. These charming wooden snack plates from the 1940s were painted in pastel colors and used in the home or taken on fancy picnics. We love the shape and calming color palette of these highly collectible plates!

Set of 4 vintage wood snack trays

spoiledfelines1 from SpoiledFelinesArt states all of the items in our shop, whether burned, carved, or painted, are finished using a matte sealant. The reason that we use a matte sealant rather than a glossy one is that we want the focus to be on the natural highs and lows of the wood, and a matte finish achieves that goal. I chose to showcase the hand burned owl plaque to illustrate the beauty of that can be achieved when using matte sealant on natural wood!

Mairi from mairidesign says the Mediterranean Sea finished off this piece of teal green glass to a perfect matte finish. I collected this piece of glass from a beach near Barcelona and chose it to be my first item of jewelry made from my beloved sea glass collection. Did you know that sea glass is also known as Mermaid’s Tears? So beautiful! Click the photo to read more about the legend of Neptune and the Mermaid.
