Let’s Make It Personal

Contributor post by Cindy Humphrey from Cynhumphrey

As special as a gift may be, it becomes even more special when it’s personalized. Personalized gifts show the recipient put some thought into the gift and those types of gifts also suit any occasion.

Our Christmas in July team members were asked to share a link to something in their shop that would qualify as a personalized gift. It could have been something that had a name added or boosted a personal connection to a special person.

Here are some special gift ideas that were shared.

Stock Lane Studio from StockLaneStudio says:

Whether as partners or best friends, true soulmates don’t come around often, but when they do they can last a lifetime. Our custom ‘Sole’ Mate cards are a great way to reach out to your ‘Bestie’. Let SLS make it personal by adding your names and the date when your friendship began. Did you solidify your friendship on the shores of Camp Kawabunga during the summer of 6th grade? We can add that too!

Judy Merashoff from JAMsCraftCloset says:

These little chalkboard buckets can be used as Table Numbers or fill with something special and give as a gift with their name written on it. I found a bunch of these at an Estate sale. At the time I had no idea what to do with them, but I had to have them. Then I thought…wedding or party…chalkboard paint…Voila! I now wish I had more of them. I only have this one set left and would love to make more.

Cherry Tomato – Pantone Fashion Color For Spring 2018

Contributor post by Michelle of EviesToolEmporium

Color trends are a wonderful way to celebrate the seasons!

According to Pantone one of the top colors for Spring 2018 is Cherry Tomato.

PANTONE 17-1563
Cherry Tomato

Impulsive Cherry Tomato is a tempestuous orangey red that exudes heat and energy. Demanding attention, this courageous, never to be ignored, shade is viscerally alive.

PANTONE 17-1563
Cherry Tomato

Members of the Etsy Christmas In July Team have been inspired by the color Cherry Tomato! They have created items in their shops reflecting this inspiration! Here are a few!

Przemila K from CanisArtStudio says:

The red color emanates energy and is a symbol of life in many cultures. It is associated with an appetizing tomato and also with the blood that revives our bodies. In the winter, when it’s gray and dark, we need colors and we enjoy them more than ever. Perhaps this is why the Chinese recognize this color as lucky and they chose it as the symbol of the New Year.

I made home decorations for the New Year 2018 with a dog symbol and I used a red background to accent the meaning of this symbol. Both the dog and the color of the red tomato carry the message of joy.

Stock Lane Studio from StockLaneStudio:

Cherry Red, just love the Pantone name for this lucky and energizing red! A perfect color for our dynamic popcorn bar sign.

Judy Merashoff from JAMsCraftCloset says:

This cherry tomato red handmade glass basket was purchased at an estate sale. It wasn’t that I just saw it and picked it up to purchase. Another lady saw it first and picked it up. I followed her around for a good 30 minutes hoping she would change her mind…and she did. Once she put it down, I immediately picked it up. I didn’t give her a chance to change her mind again.

I displayed this basket in my kitchen for a while holding my wooden spoons. At Christmas time I would move it to the living room coffee table and add some holiday picks. I even had it in the bathroom holding toothbrushes. Yes, this is a very unique and versatile basket for use in any room to add a little spice to the decor.

Elisabeth Perez from LizPOriginals says:

I may have just that in my shop … love bright orange reds that remind me of fire!

These cherry tomato colored earrings will add a splash of color to dreary winter days -just looking at them makes me happy!

Marie-Antoinknit from 9ElizabethStreet says:

I use a lot of red in my items because I think it’s a dynamic color that adds the “pop” accessories should bring to a person’s look. These cloche hats were inspired by the 20’s style, but simplified for today’s fast-fashion trends and busy lives. No need to find a dry cleaner or hat block for this one, and you’ll still look great!

Evan from VamptVintageDesign says:

I am a vintage lover, and this is one of my cherished treasures. This classic Chanel inspired vintage bag will naturally attracts attention whether you carry it day or night!

Down On The Farm

Contributor post by Cindy Humphrey from Cynhumphrey:

It has been proven that working with animals is beneficial for coping skills! This post will deal with a special kind of animal, farm animals! Let’s get past counting the sheep, watching Wilbur and Charlotte become friends, and singing about Old McDonald and check out some neat farm animals grazing around the shops of members of the Etsy Christmas in July team.

Przemila K from CanisArtStudio says:

This is my favorite subject. I could add half of my shop here but I chose the oil painting of a horse portrait. Horses are my favorite animals and I also like the atmosphere of the farm. Many people love horses and I’m a horse lover too. The horse’s portrait looks good in the official interior as well as in a small corner of shabby chic style. The oil technique is noble and the image is impressive. In my shop, you can order a framed picture ready to hang on the wall.

I paint portraits of horses on order from photos so if you want to order a portrait of your favorite horse or another animal, send me your photos by e-mail:

Judy Merashoff from JAMsCraftCloset says:

I love horses and your Palomino oil painting, but I am afraid to ride them. My first try was traumatic for me.

I will stick to other farm animals, such as this sweet shelf-sitter cow that my dad made and painted before his passing. I spent one summer teaching him to decorative paint. He took my lessons and ran with them. My dad was a master carpenter by trade but was gifted with other capabilities such as playing the piano, knitting, square dance calling, woodworking, and then decorative painting. He went to craft shows with my mom to sell his ware and was very successful.

Love this SWEET cow.

Candy Rauber from WickedlyCreative says:

I was fortunate enough to take a vacation to Ireland about 7 years ago. The landscape was beautiful and we saw many historical and natural sites. Along the way we saw sheep…not a few sheep…easily thousands of sheep along our journey around the southern half of Ireland. It was winter so they all had full puffy woollen coats. I feel in love with them. So cute! This little fella was inspired by my trip.

Susan-Sharon Passmore from MsPDesignsUSA says:

Sharon & Susan from Ms P Designs USA were raised on our family farm in Montana, and we have many happy memories. We were inspired by by those happy times to create our “Down on the Farm” quilt pattern, which features all of our animal friends from the farm, plus a couple extra animals that we’d like to have known!

Cristal Hughes from DesignsbyCristal says:

Have you ever been driving down those back country roads and pulled over to stretch your legs and while there caught a glimpse of a mama pig with her little baby pig?

Well, while taking my son back to school down south from the Christmas break we saw the cutest baby pig that looked like it was newly born standing next to it’s mama. Pigs are so cute when they’re little and running around the farm squealing at the top of their lungs.

I’m going to miss those long country back road drives because my son will graduate after the 2018 fall semester!

Arlene from ThisandThatCrafter says:

On the farm you will find ducks and lambs. Here are some cute buttons for crafting that will add a bit of the farm to your project.

How To Relax After A Long Day

Contributor post by Alicia from AliciasFindings

Who doesn’t love to relax after a long day at work, school, etc? Not only is it nice to slow down and relax, but it has many health benefits as well. Relaxing helps slow heart rate, maintains normal blood sugar levels, reducing chronic pain and muscle tension and so much more.

There are so many ways to relax. Some include yoga, meditation, music, arts, crafts and so much more.

Arlene from ThisandThatCrafter says many people go fishing to relax… to just sit in the quite of nature is very relaxing to many.

Here are my fish buttons…

Set of 2 fish buttons

Judy from JAMsCraftCloset said here in Florida, many people like to visit the beach to relax. Walking on the beach, listening to the waves, watching the birds fly in and out, collecting shells and sea glass, and watching the crabs come in and out of their hole are just a few of the relaxing things to do on the beach. A beach is a great place to just go to, sit, and think in such a peaceful atmosphere. I’ll bet many problems are being solved on the beach…

Stock Lane Studio from StockLaneStudio states I’m sensing a nature theme here. My number one way to relax is to go for a long hike or walk. Getting my heart racing, strengthening my muscles, breathing in fresh air and letting my thoughts wander away from the fast-paced world and end up in a calm place where I can appreciate all the planet has to offer.

Przemila from CanisArtStudio says relaxation is very important. There are many ways to regenerate the body and soul. There is currently a Zen-style interior trend that promotes body and mind harmony.

I have to offer large original paintings of earth and sky tones, inspired by nature. This painting is an affirmation of life and my vision of connecting with the world of plants and animals. I gave it the title “Forest Spirit” and it reminds me of old beliefs and rituals. People have always believed that nature has the power to heal and science now confirms this knowledge. This painting creates an atmosphere of peace and relaxation. Very well suited to the interior in the Zen style.

In my shop, there are also large pastel paintings that bring nature. I also paint for orders. Just let me know.

Sherri from ButterflyFeetDigital said many people, myself included, love paper crafting – scrapbooking, card making, decoupage. When I have that down time to make something with paper, it really helps me let go of the stress and be just happy.

Cerena from CerenaLevene states many folks enjoy camping among a natural setting to relax. For me a good set of cozy pajamas is quite enough ~ a bib would come in handy too for sad movie tears! Or for a catch all and mouth wipe after pizza.

Caroline from SoyCandlesbyCaroline says relaxation is very important for our overall mental awareness and well-being. I have been using candles as a method for relaxation over the years and recently started learning about the benefits of essential oils. Incorporating essential oils like 100% Pure Lemongrass Essential Oil has been shown to drive away anxious thoughts and promote positivity!

Marta from GottliebTextiles said there is nothing more relaxing than a nice afternoon nap. Your sofa should be not only cozy but also stylish. Here is a nice set of two cushion covers to brighten up your relax zone.

Cindy from Cynhumphrey states many people like to read to relax! Here’s a perfect metal bookmark designed just for that purpose! Created with a soft pink bead and a floral focal point hinting of a nice summer day, it doesn’t get much more relaxing than this!

Meadowlark – Pantone Fashion Color For Spring 2018

Contributor post by Michelle of EviesToolEmporium

Color trends are a wonderful way to celebrate the seasons!

According to Pantone one of the top colors for Spring 2018 is Meadowlark.

PANTONE 13-0646
The bold and lively Meadowlark, a confident and outgoing bright yellow shade highlights the spring 2018 season, glistening with joy and illuminating the world around us.

Members of the Etsy Christmas In July Team have been inspired by the color Meadowlark! They have created items in their shops reflecting this inspiration! Here are a few!

PANTONE 13-0646

First of all, Meadowlark is a beautiful spring bird, Its beautiful sunny yellow color is full of joy. This color announces that soon will be more light, warmth, and fun. I am waiting for spring and that’s why I have this spring bird here. In my shop, you will also find a painted clock, pastel drawings and other items with this motif.

Marta Gotlība from ArtByMartaGotliba says:

Spring flowers give me this very special feeling. We have long winters here in North and the coltsfoots are the early flowers. They stand out very bright in the last years grey grass and give a hope that the proper spring will start soon.

This painting was done with watercolor at the early spring last year. We have snow outside the window and I am so waiting to see these precious little flowers soon again!

Aska Marzec from PaintingsGallery says:

Hi, my name is Aska and this is a limited edition print of 75. It is a print on canvas of my original painting entitled Lismore Lighthouse. The inspiration for this print was to try and capture dramatic sky during one of many Caledonian ferry crossing from Oban to the Isle of Mull- Scottish Island of the west coast of Scotland. Loving the colours and the game of light and shadows.

Sherri from ButterflyFeetDigital says:

The inspiration! The art for this printable lined / unlined stationery set actually is from an earlier set of little notecards I created. I love flowers and ladybugs, and I always loved the way the mini printable notecards turned out, and I got good feedback on them, and even used them myself on occasion. Could be end of story, but recently I got to thinking of other ways to use the same little art pieces. So, here it is as a set of letter size printable stationery.

Meadowlark Printable Stationery

Stock Lane Studio from StockLaneStudio says:

Who can resists this bright and sunny color? My mother used to have this phrase pinned to her refrigerator when we were growing up. She was just a cornucopia of wise words.

This sunny meadowlark yellow card is just perfect for someone needing motivation or a recent grad making his or her way in the world.

Judy Merashoff from JAMsCraftCloset says:

We Are Family, Dream, Imagine, Believe Framed Affirmation Wall Art is a great example of Meadowlark Yellow. We all need to be reminded that family is so important in our life. Family always has your back and are there through the good and bad to support you when you most need the support. It is also a reminder to Dream, Imagine, and Believe. This is one of my favorite affirmation wall art that is handmade by me!

Cindy Humphrey from Cynhumphrey says:

This meadowlark yellow garment clip makes loose clothes such dresses, shirts, light jackets, and even shawls fit better. It also adds a touch of class to the outfit! This particular one has a bright yellow color that just can’t help but brighten a mood too.

Nancy Duncan from EponasCrystals says:

Czech glass beads in tones of blue, meadowlark yellow, cornflower blue, sunflower and silver, strung on steel memory wire. The yellow adds a pop of color to the bracelet and the blue goes great with jeans. It’s time to start wearing some spring colors to get us in the mood for warmer weather!

Karen Hafel from timetalentjewels says:

This necklace is a sure sign of spring with the colors of Meadlowlark Yellow Aqua, Coral and Chartreuse. As I enjoy working with color, one color may POP out more than all the rest. Don’t you just love the new colors of the season, I do! They are so refreshing!

Complementing Colors That Also Contrast

Contributor post by Cindy Humphrey from Cynhumphrey

Complementary colors are any two colors opposite each other on the color wheel. For example, blue and orange, or red and green. These create a high contrast, so they are used when you want something to stand out. Artists are known to use these colors in their artwork to allow something to “pop” or “stand out” in whatever they are creating. One color will often be used as a background color while the other color will be used for accents.

Here are some wonderful items from team members of the Etsy Christmas in July team who have used this concept to create some beautiful items on display in their shops. Be sure to check them out and witness some talent in action!

Przemila K from CanisArtStudio says:

Red Longhaired Dachshund on a dark green background. This cute dog is similar to a small fox. To paint him very realistic I put it on a dark green background. The strong contrast makes it very realistic and the whole composition is in autumn colors. You can choose the color of the frame, but I prefer gold because it slightly neutralizes the contrast and adds warm colors.

Robyn Campbell from RobynFayeDesigns says:

I designed this cross body bag around a piece of Japanese fabric featuring cranes. I love the contrast of green treetops against the red background and of course the metallic gold for a bit of bling. Definitely a stand out color combination!

Stock Lane Studio from StockLaneStudio  says:

Blue and Gold – cool and warm, complimentary and contrasting.

This is all reflected in our Best Friends Card: Soul Sisters. Perfect for your childhood best friend, graduation buddies, or members of a bridal shower.

Roses Workshop from RosesWorkshop says:

The contrasting colors in this Harris tweed tea cozy make it really eye-catching. Many traditional tartans use red and green, but I think this twist to brick and turquoise is rather unusual.

Marta Gotliba from GottliebTextiles says:

Bright pink has a fantastic contrast on a black background.

Cerena Levene from CerenaLevene says:

Here you will see the contrasting decorative stitch in a golden yellow upon a terrific purple flannel backing of this baby bib set.

The yellow and purple are repeated in the painted Easter egg fabric. The contrasting yellow verses violet (and orange verses blue ) add to the excitement of the holiday! Feed your little golden egg with less mess and more style.

Caroline from SoyCandlesbyCaroline says:

I chose these contrasting colors when creating the label so that when you need light during an emergency situation, you can easily find this candle! This candle provides light and is very lite!

Nancy Duncan from EponasCrystals says:

Chunky jewel tones gemstone necklace in tones of blue, amber, bronze, brown, turquoise and gold. The gemstones included are African turquoise, amber, natural blue aquaterra jasper beads with a mixture of a fabulous blue and a sparkling gold quartz, red agate, pietersite and brown mookaite jasper.

Cristal Hughes from DesignsByCristal says:

Purple and gold are the colors of my favorite school. To me these colors represent strength, spirit and excellence. Purple is also so regal!

Karen Hafel from timetalentjewels says:

It is interesting to me how the orange will stand out differently with the shades of deep purples and then with the shades of teal greens. This makes a cool wool felted hot pad how it all came together after knitting and felting. Color is so fascinating, don’t you think?
