Foodie Gifts

‘food·ie
ˈfo͞odē/
noun
a person with a particular interest in food; a gourmet.
synonyms: gourmet, epicure, gastronome, gourmand
“his father was a foodie who worked for an international magazine”

We are definitely foodies! How about you? Our teamies told us about their love for all things gourmet. Tell us about your favorite foodie things!

For many years I am a vegeterian. Actually I could be a vegan also because my favorite food is fruits. I love the colors and scents of fruits, there are so many different shapes! It’s so inspiring! I also like to paint fruit too. One of my favorite topics is “wild apples”. Many years ago in my neighborhood, there was a custom of planting an apple tree by the road. When I go for a walk with my dogs I can meet such a wild tree and collect apples that are no longer available in any store. I paint small still life with these apples. It’s a little romantic and it’s a great decorating the kitchen or the dining room, so this series of my oil paintings are selling fast. Occasionally they are also available in my shop. Of course I also paint other fruits and you can order oil painting with your favorite fruits or vegetables.

Oh boy do I LOVE to Cook!!! Experimenting by pairing specific foods is a great challenge, but a really fun project for me too. The best part is eating it!

I carry a few really fun food related ceramic beads in my shop like these little peanuts that have a Chinese saying on them “good luck always”. Peanuts carry a special meaning in the Chinese Culture of flourish and growth. Which is a perfect symbol for this spring summer season.

I love the sensory overload of village markets. The hustle and bustle and conversation of the animated sellers and shoppers, the smells and colors of the produce and meats and fish. I offer travel photos in my photography shop: Stock Lane Photography, and this one brings back so many memories of visits to this large indoor market. Capture your wanderlust!

My husband and I love to cook and try mom n’ pop restaurants. We enjoy trying new recipes or creating our own. He got me several celebrity chef cookbooks for christmas, so we have been trying a new recipe each week. Recently, my husband started a blog to share our recipes with step by step pictures. He gets so excited writing a blog, sharing all his ideas and tips.

We use several kitchen gadgets and this huge measuring cup is great to use.

Jim and I love food. Restaurants, menus, cooking shows, and trying new recipes. We try out new places, and are regulars at a few local family own restaurants. I love to cook and bake, so being a foodie is real thing for us. When my boys were little they loved to watch the Frugal Gourmet. I have a set of these Pyrex deep dish pie pans and absolutely love them. They make great lemon meringue pies.

I really enjoy baking. When my kids were little I used to bake and decorate every birthday cake, or make cupcakes/cookies for school functions. Now the kids are grown and gone, so I have started making treats for our three dogs.

#CIJPopUpMarket #1 Shop – Przemila from CanisArtStudio

CanisArtStudio

1. What is the name of your shop and where do you look for inspiration?

My shop name is CanisArtStudio. “Canis” this is the Latin name of the dog. I’m a pet lover. Dogs, horses and other animals are my passions. I have an English Setter kennel and my mission is to immortalize of animals and nature.

2. How has your shop evolved over time?

Contact with customers is very inspiring for me. I started my business showing my paintings at dog shows. I went to international shows in Europe and met many people from different countries. I was looking for a place to contact my fans online and I found Etsy. Because many people also asked me horses, cats and other animals so I started offering more topics and more things. I get bored quickly, so I’m still doing something new. I am currently offering more oil paintings ready to hang and more things ready to ship.

3. What do you love most about your work?

Every order is a challenge. I love this moment when I get pet photos and the process of image creation begins. This is a struggle with matter to make the vision a reality. Sometimes I do a reconstruction based on a series of archival photos.

4. What motivating music do you listen to? Share your playlist that gets and keeps you going!

I’m a guitarist and I like to listen to guitar music, I like rock and pop music. My work requires extreme concentration and listening to classical music helps me.

5. What book are you reading right now and where is your favorite place to read?

Great inspiration for me are Monty Roberts books “The Man Who Listens to Horses” and other. I also wrote and published my book about behavior of animals. Now I want to translate my book into English and prepare the next books. That is why now I have a lot to learn about business and read business books. David Allen “Getting This Done” is my last.

Imagination Station

Contributor Post by Sheila and Shannon from BeadyEyedBird

Remember the old Sesame Street fun about using your imagination? If not, here’s a little reminder: m.youtube.com/watch?v=QZawTyARxp0.

What do you like to imagine? Our teamies shared these items that trigger their imagination. We hope you’ll share your thoughts on this subject too.

Great idea! “Imagination is more important than knowledge. For knowledge is limited to all we now know and understand, while imagination embraces the entire world, and all there ever will be to know and understand.”- Einstein

I paint animals and flowers, but in my shop occasionally I have something special. This pastel painting I painted for an exhibition titled “Fairy tales of gold”. In many cultures, there is a theme of mythical dragon that guards the treasure. This dragon is scary and the only real hero can get the treasure…

This pastel drawing was presented at my exhibition 2014. I attach a catalog from the exhibition to the image shipment.

I think that as children we all start out with loads of imagination and somewhere along the way we stuff it in a drawer and become grown ups. Opening up that drawer again and letting it out frees a sense of spirit and joy.

I used to teach creative thinking and I found it was a wonderful way to loosen up the brain, sort of like brain floss. While doing farm chores I often let my mind wander and create stories in my mind – mental gymnastics if you will. The same thing happens when I bring my camera up to my eye (sorry, no cell phone in my house) – I try to see what others might not.

Come on, aren’t you just waiting for a little fairy to pop out of one of these while bells?

I love babies and children. I used to teach in an occupational therapy setting in schools for learning disabled children. Many prospered to go on to regular education as parents imagined they would with a little jump start. I have one grand baby and one on the way. I imagine a house full of grand babies!! I dreamed of one last night!

Kale – Pantone Fashion Color For Spring 2017

Contributor post by Michelle of EviesToolEmporium

Color trends are a wonderful way to celebrate the seasons!

According to Pantone one of the top colors for Spring 2017 is Kale.

PANTONE 18-0107 Kale

Evocative of the great outdoors and a healthy lifestyle, Kale is another foliage-based green that conjures up our desire to connect to nature, similar to the more vivacious Greenery. And, just as we see in nature, this lush and fertile natural green shade provides the perfect complementary background to the more vibrant tones in the palette.

Laurie Pressman
Vice-President of the Pantone Color Institute

PANTONE Fashion Color Report Spring 2017

PANTONE Fashion Color Report Spring 2017

Members of the Etsy Christmas In July Team have been inspired by the color Kale! They have created items in their shops reflecting this inspiration! Here are a few!

pam colangelo from PearlsVintagebyPam says:

Kale is the most popular vegetable at this time of year. So get out your juicer and make a Kale smoothie. Here’s an antique pitcher to serve the smoothie in. The pitcher has charm and it’s inexpensive! A great Kale gift for mom!

PearlsVintagebyPam

Dawn Whitehand from DeeDeeDeesigns says:

This set of three handmade pottery condiment dishes are a unique set of kitchen decor and are glazed in a beautiful glossy kale green glaze designed to highlight the subtle impressed floral pattern on the insides of the dishes. Their design is minimalist and influenced by the Japanese aethestic of Wabi Sabi – to be at peace and balanced. They are fired to stoneware temperature (1280C / 2336F) making them dishwasher safe, oven safe and microwave safe.

Unique and one of a kind these dishes would make great thank you gifts for teachers and ideal hostess gifts.

The dishes are perfect for serving condiments such as jam & cream, soy sauce, wasabi, pickled ginger. mustard, tomato sauce, rock salt, olives, sundried tomatoes, the list goes on! Of course they can also be used to hold candles, keys, coins – anything.

DeeDeeDeesigns

rosenthorn2001 from CrochetArtETC:

The Spring color along with the texture of this doily design are indicative of the refreshing, calm Kale green. The intricate raised patterns of this piece could very well be compared to the interesting beauty of the Kale leaf. I take great joy in creating a work from a vintage design and the Kale green color along with the unique patterns resulted in a stunning doily!

CrochetArtETC

Emma Kaufmann from StudioEmmaKaufmann says:

I too don’t like eating kale very much but love its earthy color. I was inspired by the leafy green to paint two playful elephant pals. I don’t know why I wanted to paint green elephants but it works! The print is available in my shop!

StudioEmmaKaufmann

Przemila K from CanisArtStudio says:

This is a door badge for dog lover (or dog memorial). Green is my favorite color. Green kale is most loved by people who have big dogs and love nature, long walks, adventures with wildlife, hunting or field trials. Here is a portrait of English Setter, very special dog breed for people who love nature.

I paint custom dog portraits and it’s possible to order similar item with your pet portrait. This oval oil painting is painted on wooden panel and protected by a clear coat.

CanisArtStudio

Diana from joliefemmebydiana says:

Kale green is practical color but also fun when polka dots are involved. The same idea as this wallet’s fabric combinations. The brown and pink girlie skulls in the center are cute and fun while the Kale green sides and interior are practical and pretty at the same time.

joliefemmebydiana

Patricia from TheOldBarnDoor says:

The colour Kale is rooted in the earth and makes an instant connection with me, as a full time farmer. My little frog pond is full of critters and floating bits of kale-coloured leaves. This shy little fellow made an appearance just long enough for his portrait. Don’t want to eat kale? Just carry the colour with you in this handy case.

TheOldBarnDoor

Lisajoy Sachs from saxdsign says:

A truly unique food, as a super food Kale is a healthy option. I try to add it to my diet, but like some other members it isn’t that tasty to me raw or cooked. So, I have figured out how to ferment it with cabbage and make sour kraut with it. If anyone is interested I can provide the recipe. it is really delicious. I have also made Kale kimchi which is really yummy too. This year I am trying to grow it in my own garden.

Fittingly these green kale colored butterfly gemstones are made out of a green type of Ocean Jasper which is only found on one place in the world. Madagascar. It is mined in the ocean at low tide.

saxdsign

Nancy Duncan from EponasCrystals says:

I love summer and the lush green foliage of the season. I made this green kyanite necklace to mimic the greens of summer. Kyanite is also one of my favorite stones, for the clean clear energy it omits.

EponasCrystals

Connie Lee from Bungalow42 says:

Okay, let me get this off my chest. I do not eat Kale because I do not like Kale… (pause for audible audience gasps). I know it’s good for you but the only redeeming qualities I find in Kale is it’s deep green color and the lovely organic shapes of the leaves. The color and shape of the Keshi pearls used in this bracelet definitely evoke a vision of Kale’s best qualities for me.

Dark Kale green Keshi pearls and light green top drilled “Dancing” freshwater pearls are a surprising pairing but I think it works. The silhouette of the bracelet is an ever changing bit of art as the pearls dance from one side to the other. The organic leaf shapes and the varying depth of Kale green color in the Keshi pearls guarantee that no two bracelets will be the same.

Bungalow42

Marijean from MariMartiDesigns says:

In this Wrist Rosary Bracelet, the beautiful Russian Jade beads play with both Kale and Greenery from Pantone’s 2017 trend list. I love the vibrant earthiness of the greens and the way that dark gives way to light in the veins of the Russian Jade used to create this Unique 5-decade wrist Rosary with Vintage Reproduction Cross in Solid Bronze. Makes me want to sit outside in a rustic, undomesticated forest and have some peaceful meditation time!

MariMartiDesigns

friedasophie from friedasophie says:

So I love Kale and Tourmalines and they are pretty much in the same color range. Seems like i am having a green phase!

friedasophie

Cristal Hughes from DesignsbyCristal says:

For those who love promoting peace will make the connection with the color green even though it’s a dark kale green it still signifies peace, health and wellness which is our overall goal right. The inside of this scripture wristlet is lined with a print that features a fish and the cross.

The scripture in questions comes from the Galatians 5:22 (Life by the Spirit )

When the designer created this fabric I believe this is why they paired them both together at least that’s how I view it!

Small Wonders

Post contributor from Julie at EveryoneLovesGifts0

As we are surrounded by great makers who make all wonderful items,
* I was wondering what small items do you make?
* Do you like making small items?
* Do your small items sell well?
* Which is your best selling item?

Przemila K from CanisArtStudio says; “..See how much happiness,
The small things hide.
Let’s enjoy the little things,
Because the rules for bliss is written in them!”
This is the lyrics of my favorite song!

In my shop are popular small oil paintings and custom pet portraits. I love painting them and I have designed a series of miniature painted wall clocks. This is the new in my shop. The dimensions of this clock are just that 6 x 7 inch. This small wall clock can be the decoration of the home or office interior and of course the souvenir of a beautiful moment. This is a very personalized gift!
Also little things are easy to send and shipping is not expensive.

Small Painted Clock

Judith Messenger from FabriArts says; My favorite things to make are quilts, but when cutting out the pieces for a quilt, there are always small pieces of fabric left over. I’ve found the perfect things to make with these smaller pieces are these little purse accessories – business card/credit card wallets and travel tissue covers. The Laurel Burch fabric used in this set is particularly popular.

Stock Lane Studio from StockLaneStudio says; Our Etsy Paper and Supply shop, Stock Lane Paper, designs printable mini cards that are just perfect for adding to gift baskets or using as thank you notes for Etsy orders! Many of our printable cards are customizable, so just let us know what you have in mind and we can work with you to create just the right design.

Printable Thank You Cards

Shelly from ShellysSelectSalvage says; I sell vintage including miniatures. These are really popular as customers use them as office desk decor, windowsill decor, gifts for friends, and a cute something for their vanity.

The most popular vintage miniatures are copper and pretty salt cellars. The copper items sell almost as soon as I list them, though they are hard to find.
My salt cellars are more common, but can be used for more than a salt dish. These can hold rings, small jewelry, or use to put herbs in while cooking.

I like selling miniatures because storing & shipping are so much easier and quicker.

Cristal Hughes from DesignsbyCristal says; This is a cute fishing gear collar designed for a small dog/puppy. Small dogs need to have their accessories as well so creating something in a small size for them was a work of love!

Fishing Mini Dog Collar

Marijean from MariMartiDesigns says; I’ve always been a beading maniac for as long as I can remember! My favorite supplies to work with are beads and textile–namely up cycled sari silk. These elements come together joyfully in some of the small wonders in my shop!

I make (mostly) jewelry and so I spend a lot of time working with tiny beads to create small products that can be worn. Some of my quickest moving “small wonders” are my tassel earrings. They give a tiny bit of festive fringe to your look without overpowering your overall ensemble! Say, “Hello” to your New Favorite Pair of Earrin

Fringe Earrings

Dina StyleKnits from DinaStyleKnits says; My favorite items are knitted scarves, but I like to make small items too. I like to make small beaded brooches for my scarves and shawls. For example, this red brooch with glass beads was sold several times. This is my brooch bestseller. I like this small things, because of they add interesting and special accent to simple clothes.

Red Brooch

Gillian Haqqani from Gillisflowers says; I make origami jewellery and most is flower themed. I very rarely use paper more than 2″ square and for a piece such as this where the flowers measure between 3/8th and 3/4 of an inch with the smallest folded from squares of paper measuring 3/4″. I love folding such small flowers but I usually have to throw at least 3 away for every one that is usable

Vintage Floral Pendant

Donna Schindler from TreasuresFromTheLake says; I sell these wine charms that go around your wine glass stem.
These are great so that you will never lose your glass at a party again. They make great gifts.

Tatiana Burka from FoxFamilyBoutique says; I make mini busy boards for kids. Size 20 to 30 cm. Now this type of goods I have the best selling.
