Nesting With Nature

Contributor post by Alicia from AliciasFindings

I am a big lover of nature and know I am not alone in that. I love being among the trees and seeing all the colors, smelling the smells and hearing all the little peeps of nature.

I know I use a lot of color combinations and ideas from nature in my works, so that you can have nature with you all the time.

What do you have in your shop that brings nature into your home?

Cindy from Cynhumphrey says I love to bring nature inside! Here is an item from my shop that led me to our woods to find some broken branches. I also used nut shells for the flowers, which is another nature item. Pair these with fake floral flowers and a silk butterfly to give it just a splash of color and you have a beautiful centerpiece!

Nancy from EponasCrystals states we live in the country and always have an abundance of wild life crossing through our yard. My husband puts out sunflower seeds for the birds and we have squirrels, turkeys, deer, possums and raccoons come to eat as well. Here are some flying bird earrings to remind you of “nesting with nature”.

Stock Lane Studio from StockLaneStudio says I captured this photograph during a relaxing and peaceful hike along the Cornish Trail that parallels the Hudson River. Scattered along the trail are old ruins of a once thriving estate. The old well has turned into a home for turtles and frogs. Brick chimneys and stone walls are all that remain of the buildings.

Cristal from DesignsbyCristal said while my allergies sometimes get in the way of my venturing outside during the blooming season I still love the spring flowers! The colors are bright, bold and smell so good! One of my favorite flowers are daisies!

Daisy dog collar

Przemila from CanisArtStudio states in my shop, there are many items that show nature because I paint pet portraits and wildlife animals. But today I chose the miniature painted clock with cardinal songbirds, which will be the original Christmas decoration. In my shop is available a series of painted clocks with different birds. You can also order a custom clock with your favorite bird or pet.

Annie from DesignedbyAnneliese says I also love to be outdoors among the trees and flowers. I recently added these rose cards to my shop. I absolutely love roses, especially their gorgeous scent!

Pam from PamsPawsJewelry said I love nature, natural things, and being outside! For my Etsy shop I enjoy taking photos and incorporating natural items, flowers, rocks, shells, leaves, or just an outdoor backdrop into my item photos!

Sometimes I match the colors or exact flowers as in this handmade necklace photo to what is in my handmade and vintage items.

This necklace is pink rhodochrosite, rose quartz, and the pretty dogwood tree flowers match the sterling silver flower in my necklace design!

Aska from PaintingsGallery states I work from my airy studio from where I can look outside into the distance and enjoy the beautiful view of the mountains and sea.I gain inspiration from nature colours & all the beauty in the ever-changing landscape which I want to capture in my canvases and share it with you. The beauty of the Island of Mull is my main subject. The island has been my home since 11 years now and still, there is so much to discover.

Susan and Sharon from MsPDesignsUSA says our quilt patterns are inspired by nature! This nursery quilt features animals who live in the forests and woodlands in Montana, where we grew up. I had such fun making the animals, as they each have a whimsical touch.

Alicia from MemaAntiques said my husband and I love wildlife. We live in an area where you see all sorts of birds and water fowl. It is nothing to see and alligator walking down the sidewalks where we live at.

Elisabeth from LizPOriginals states I love to be in nature and get always inspired with all the colors and textures there. Here is a nature inspired pair of earrings where the frosted leafs remind me of fall and the first frost.

Candy from WickedlyCreative says I have a fondness for nature especially trees, flowers and birds. This owl I designed brings all of it together in a fun, whimsical way.

Desert Dabbler from DesertDabbler says I love hiking and being outside. In the summer and fall we go to the Rocky Mountains to escape the desert heat and see the wildlife. Last year we went to Jasper, Canada. one of my favorite places. As we were driving there, we spotted a mother black bear and her 3 cubs. What a treat! I took their picture and was later inspired to make this necklace because of them.

Mythical Creatures

Contributor post by Cindy Humphrey of Cynhumphrey

Let us journey into a world of mythical creatures! Creep into the depths of your imagination and check out these examples on display in some Etsy shops. Many wonder and have questions as to whether some mythical creatures are real. One thing I can guarantee is that whether you believe or not, some talented people have been able to depict them in amazing and fun ways! Whether it be unicorns, dragons, mermaids, garden fairies or a phoenix, young and old alike are familiar with some sort of mythical creature. Here’s what I’m talking about.

Susan – Sharon Passmore from MsPDesignsUSA says:

Mermaids are the stuff of legends! Many ancient cultures’ folklore included tales of part-human & part-fish creatures, some who were good, and others who caused trouble for the humans who were unfortunate enough to encounter them.

Our little mermaid is a good creature. She has beautiful flowing hair, and a lovely singing voice. You might just hear her song, if you listen very closely.

Stock Lane Studio from StockLaneStudio says:

Our cute little gnomes make everyone believe in the magic of Christmas and the joy of gift giving. SLS team member Ruby had fun designing this card, which is one of our most popular. Ruby drew inspiration from a childhood growing up exploring the woods and creek behind her home, peeking under rocks for elves and under ferns for magical gnomes.

In addition to the personalized gifts we create in our Etsy shop, we also create beautiful glass artwork on commission for any design you can imagine using any size or type of glass or mirror for any application or installation. Contact us for a free estimate for any idea you have in mind.

Przemila K from CanisArtStudio says:

Eye of the dragon. It looks a little scary, but it’s a mythical creature and should impress. I plan to develop this topic in my store and offer more on this subject soon.

Ultra Violet – Pantone Color Of The Year 2018

Contributor post by Michelle of EviesToolEmporium

The 2018 PANTONE Color of the Year is Ultra Violet!

Pantone shares:

A dramatically provocative and thoughtful purple shade, PANTONE 18-3838 Ultra Violet communicates originality, ingenuity, and visionary thinking that points us toward the future.

Complex and contemplative, Ultra Violet suggests the mysteries of the cosmos, the intrigue of what lies ahead, and the discoveries beyond where we are now. The vast and limitless night sky is symbolic of what is possible and continues to inspire the desire to pursue a world beyond our own.

Enigmatic purples have also long been symbolic of counterculture, unconventionality, and artistic brilliance. Musical icons Prince, David Bowie, and Jimi Hendrix brought shades of Ultra Violet to the forefront of western pop culture as personal expressions of individuality. Nuanced and full of emotion, the depth of PANTONE 18-3838 Ultra Violet symbolizes experimentation and non-conformity, spurring individuals to imagine their unique mark on the world, and push boundaries through creative outlets.

Historically, there has been a mystical or spiritual quality attached to Ultra Violet. The color is often associated with mindfulness practices, which offer a higher ground to those seeking refuge from today’s over-stimulated world. The use of purple-toned lighting in meditation spaces and other gathering places energizes the communities that gather there and inspire connection.

What is the PANTONE Color of the Year?

A symbolic color selection; a color snapshot of what we see taking place in our global culture that serves as an expression of a mood and an attitude.

Members of the Etsy Christmas In July team have been inspired by the color Ultra Violet! They have created items in their shops reflecting this inspiration! Here are a few!

1. Ultra Violet Sunset Print by Aska Marzec from PaintingsGallery

2. Ultra Violet Fantasy Illustration by Przemila K from CanisArtStudio

Fresh Holiday Trends for 2017: Etsy

Contributor post by Michelle of EviesToolEmporium

I am fascinated by trends. Are you? There are weather trends, work place trends, business trends, job trends, food trends, real estate trends, hair trends, fashion trends color trends and so on.

The definition of a trend is a general direction in which something is developing or changing. In college I took several classes on trends. I remember distinctly studying pre peak – peak – post peak timelines. I find trends intriguing. They pique my curiosity.

Trends unite us. Give us a common ground. A connecting point.

This article is inspired by the Fresh Holiday Trends for 2017: Etsy article on the Etsy blog.

The trends are: Trending Holiday Home Decor (The New Classics, Sophisticated Stockings, and Moody Tablescapes), Trending Holiday Gifts (Deluxe Pet Gifts, Cosmic Appeal, Hometown Pride and Treat Yo’self) and Trending Presentation Ideas (Creative Wrapping). Here are a few trend inspired items from members of the Etsy Christmas In July team.

The New Classics

Przemila K from CanisArtStudio says:.

I am a lover of nature and I know how important ecology is to our lives. Observing wild birds and animals in nature is what brings the most joy and relaxation. I want to share my impressions and love for wild nature and animals. But for me, ecology is also important and what we do to protect our planet. That’s why I’ve designed a series of home decorations that I make from waste materials. I use wood remnants from the production of other objects: small pieces of panels and frames, these pieces were going to be burned, and I give them a new life. It requires more of my time and work because everything is completely different. It took a lot of time to match those pieces to make them a nice composed whole. That’s why each of these objects is different and unique. and my decorations are made of 100% natural materials. I hope that my decorations bring joy and happiness and make a smile.

Cosmic Appeal

Stock Lane Studio from StockLaneStudio says:

The stars are trending on Etsy this year and Stock Lane Studio has plenty of Cosmic appeal. Love is written in the stars in our SLS cosmic heart printable. This heart art is great year-round, but especially fitting as a holiday gift. Nursery decor, wall art or a card for a loved one, it’s very versatile. Since it’s digital, it can also be used electronically. Announce an engagement or send a message to a loved one using your downloaded art as a backdrop. Don’t have time to do it yourself? SLS LOVES to personalize, just send us a message and we can work with you. We also offer a printed version of this heart art, and have more Night Sky designs in our shop.

Susan McCarthy from WellDressedCupcakes says:

I just added this section to my shop for custom tags for holidays and all celebrations.

I have always loved to give homemade gifts to family. I think it started way before I became an adult! I was always making or creating something and it never stopped. The 1st year I was married -we had absolutely no money. My gift to my husband was all handmade ornaments for our 1st tree. I always love trying something new – sewing, knitting and now my Etsy shop. These tags will be perfect for some of my gifts this year. I added some for my personal homemade gifts and also baking tags which reminds me I need to start planning for cookies.

Fabulous Flowers

Contributor post by Michelle of EviesToolEmporium

Fall is officially here, and it’s the time I plant some of my favorite bulbs so I can get that thrill of colorful flowers in the spring. It reminds me of all the joy planting, growing, viewing and displaying flowers brings to me. It makes me wonder about your flowery favorites. Our Christmas in July team members shared these items and stories.

Judy Merashoff from JAMsCraftCloset says:

I don’t like to plant or grow flowers, but I do love anything that is floral. I believe flowers brighten every day and anything that holds flowers or has flowers on it.

I found several vintage bottles at an estate sale. I kept looking at them and wondered what to do with them. I decided instead of selling them as is, I would paint flowers on them. This is what I came up with.

Richard and Tatiana from DesignstheLimit says:

We pick fresh flowers from our yard throughout the year and use them in our photography for our bridal party and couple’s monogrammed gifts in our shop. We love the addition of the flowers in the images and love including a little part of our home in our work.

DesignstheLimit

willowvalleyvintage from WillowValleyVintage says:

We enjoy finding vintage items like vases or decor with a floral theme. I took the photo of this toothpick holder earlier in the year. The Forget-me-knot flowers grew in our garden.

WillowValleyVintage

Cindy Humphrey from Cynhumphrey says:

I definitely do not have a green thumb when it comes to flowers. However, that doesn’t stop me from enjoying them. I especially love the blooming flowers!

On the other hand, I also love faux flowers but I don’t want them to look like a cheap plastic floral decoration.

Allergies also run in the family so sometimes it’s a challenge to find just the right bouquet for our table.

That’s what inspired this neat item! It’s a combination floral and upcycled item all rolled up into one truly amazing conversation piece! The flower is made from pistachio nut shells! The finished bouquet is perfect for the table (if nobody in the family is allergic to nut trees)! The best part is, it can be custom made to match any decor theme!

Cynhumphrey

Lia Russo from Ghirlandiamo says:

I’m really fond of bulbs, particularly l do love irises. I liked the American Iris Society’s Facebook page, where I can see these wonderful flowers. And this is my homage to them.

Ghirlandiamo

pam colangelo from PearlsVintagebyPam says:

I love flowers! Spring is my best display. I have many perennial flower beds but they are a lot of back breaking work. If only it wasn’t for weeds! These tin canisters are bright and flowery!

PearlsVintagebyPam

Ilda Pereira from lililapt says:

Flowers are one of the favourite motifs I use when I embroider. I love them!

lililapt

Astrid Stenerud Prayag from RedNeedleQuilts says:

I love pansies. We always had pansies on the farm in Norway where I grew up. Every year, at the end of the cold and snowy winter, my late Mom bought seeds to grow for the garden. Among the several sachets with seeds, there was the pansies. I couldn’t wait for the seeds to grow, for the tiny plants to get big and strong enough to be planted in pots outside as well as in some of the flower beds. I love all the color variations the pansies have, so colorful and eye catching.

RedNeedleQuilts

JO from alustrousjewellery says:

Love flowers! I remember picking daisies as a child and making daisy chains, these daisy earrings remind me of that time.

alustrousjewellery

Kristen from KestrelCollection says:

I love fairy flower earrings. I make them in all different colors and styles and they are where most of the color resides on my shop.

KestrelCollection

Connie Lee from Bungalow42 says:

It’s hard to imagine anyone that doesn’t love flowers. Hmmm… maybe those unfortunate folks with allergies. Well here’s a handful of flowers guaranteed to be pollen free!

Vintage lucite teal blue moonglow rounds and light blue Peruvian flowers – so pretty together. The clay fired hand painted flowers vary slightly from one to another adding a unique element to this sweet bracelet. These Peruvian beads have a folk art vibe that is a pleasing contrast to the luminescent vintage lucite moonglow.

Bungalow42

Gillian Haqqani from Gillisflowers says:

I have a shop full of flowers! Here though is a piece made from recycled paper and featuring two roses. Here I’ve used paper from an old copy of Pride and Prejudice but as a custom order you can scan me a page from your favourite book, the sheet music from a special song or even a section of a map showing a favourite place and I can turn into a truly meaningful piece of jewellery.

Gillisflowers

Nancy Duncan from EponasCrystals says:

Roses are my favorite! Especially the fragrant varieties. This is a real rose bud encased in resin.

EponasCrystals

Susan Fowler from SSFDesigns says:

Flowers!!I love flowers and used to be a florist till I retired this year. I usually try to incorporate flowers of some kind in my designs . Here I created a poinsettia pin for the holidays with just a touch of sparkle and holiday magic!

SSFDesigns

Karen Hafel from timetalentjewels says

How about a hand knitted and felted bag with a flower on it? Recently I purchased a book on how to make real flowers other than this one and knitting and felting them has been a real treat. My last purse that I sold was my cover photo of a red purse with pansies. There are lots of flowers to knit and felt, it just takes time and patience.

Barbara from MermaidsHatbox says:

No hat without flowers. Flowers determine the style of a hat. Depending on material and design. This hat from jeans fabric with crochet flowers and embroidered with pearls is reminiscent of the 70’s.

Christine from cwagenblass9 says:

I love making paper cut out flowers for diy creators. Tropical florals are a great way to decorate weddings and showers.

Stock Lane Studio from StockLaneStudio says:

I love the idea of digital paper because once you purchase the file, you can keep it on hand and printout as many or few as you like. You don’t having to rush back to the store for more of the same when you run out.

This floral stationery is cheerful with beautiful autumn tones of warm reds and oranges. I captured the background photograph of straw flowers while shopping at a market in Montreal, Canada.

StockLaneStudio

Heather Youngblood from youngbloodMADE says:

A lot of my artwork focuses on flowers. I have recently become enamored with the the language of flowers. I am fascinated with the symbolic meanings attributed to flowers and love the lore of the Victorian age when flowers were purposefully and thoughtfully arranged so as to convey secret messages and nuanced thoughts.

Cerena Levene from CerenaLevene says:

I truly enjoy flowering trees, with the branches being just as extravagant to me as the floral explosions erupting along those limbs. I enjoy the light streaming throughout, showcasing shadowy depths and highlighted blossoms!

Przemila K from CanisArtStudio says:

Autumn is the last moment when I can paint flowers by nature. I like the colors of autumn flowers. They create strong accents and add joy when days are cloudy. I sketched pastel by nature. This is a classic still life.

CanisArtStudio

Patricia from TheOldBarnDoor says:

I planted a special garden in the fall of 2016 so that I could show my Canadian pride in the spring of 2017 for Canada’s 150th birthday celebration. This was a lavish display of red and white tulips. I couldn’t help but smile every time I walked past this part of the garden in the spring.

Foodie Gifts

Contributor Post by Sheila and Shannon from BeadyEyedBird

‘food·ie
ˈfo͞odē/
noun
a person with a particular interest in food; a gourmet.
synonyms: gourmet, epicure, gastronome, gourmand
“his father was a foodie who worked for an international magazine”

We are definitely foodies! How about you? Our teamies told us about their love for all things gourmet. Tell us about your favorite foodie things!

For many years I am a vegeterian. Actually I could be a vegan also because my favorite food is fruits. I love the colors and scents of fruits, there are so many different shapes! It’s so inspiring! I also like to paint fruit too. One of my favorite topics is “wild apples”. Many years ago in my neighborhood, there was a custom of planting an apple tree by the road. When I go for a walk with my dogs I can meet such a wild tree and collect apples that are no longer available in any store. I paint small still life with these apples. It’s a little romantic and it’s a great decorating the kitchen or the dining room, so this series of my oil paintings are selling fast. Occasionally they are also available in my shop. Of course I also paint other fruits and you can order oil painting with your favorite fruits or vegetables.

My husband and I love to cook and try mom n’ pop restaurants. We enjoy trying new recipes or creating our own. He got me several celebrity chef cookbooks for christmas, so we have been trying a new recipe each week. Recently, my husband started a blog to share our recipes with step by step pictures. He gets so excited writing a blog, sharing all his ideas and tips.
