Next we visit the studio space of Ineke de Vries from InekedeVries who creates original art, art prints and handmade jewellery.

Please visit her shop and share some hearts!

Here’s what Ineke has to say about her workspace :

“I work from two spaces in my house.

My computer is in the backroom, that overlooks the garden. Here I do all my computer related stuff and digital art. I also use this room for photography, as it has the best light in the house.

I paint, draw and make jewellery in a small area, that is really a covered verandah at the front of the house.

The small size suits me, as it forces me to tidy up when I change between making jewellery and drawing.”

Fine Art Finds

Growing up in Rhode island, one of the biggest events of the year for me was the Scituate Art festival. I loved living 5 minutes away from the biggest craft show and fine art display that I knew. Wouldn’t you know it, I grew up and now live in walking distance of the festival! Needless to say I spent the entire weekend there, mulling over the various artisans producing items from crafts I may never learn, and of course, taking in all of the gorgeous fine art New England has to offer.

In honour of my wonderful weekend experience, here is some fine art from our own CIJ team members!

Original Crab Drawing In Black And White from huiyitan

Illustration is one art form that I enjoy very much. I love the expression and stories told through illustration in often (but not always!) simplistic styles. I can already get a feel for this little crab’s personality and have thoroughly enjoyed browsing some more of his life. Though I’d still like to know what it is that he’s staring at.

Where in illustration we are often given the expression set forth by a character, photography is an art form where a subject with no expressive features can speak volumes. I have no talent for capturing moments myself, so I admire it greatly.

The stark contrast between black and white is powerful and deafening, a surprise in and of itself since we generally see flowers to be such delicate entities, soft and feminine. Yet through that solid confidence of the lily, we see a small wisp off the end of the petal, whispering gently amidst the booming message. What does it say to you?

Original Abstract Painting: CHITCHAT from ARTbyKirsten

Painting, yet another art that leaves me totally clueless when I make an attempt. Abstract paintings are probably my favourite in that they are completely open to the viewers’ interpretation which is a beautiful thing. There is movement, contrast, and a definite sense of mystery that we don’t get in photography or realism.

Aside from original paintings, Kirsten offers prints of her work to suit smaller budgets or perhaps, smaller spaces.

Stay inspired!
