1. What is the name of your shop and where do you look for inspiration?

The name of my shop is QuirkyEleganceEm! My inspiration tends to come from many places, from the colour combinations in nature to the settings in books I’ve read or sometimes whatever I’ve accumulated in my material stockpile.

2. How has your shop evolved over time?

My Shop is still very new, and has still got a lot more evolving to do! I’m glad that I’ve been able to sit down and list the items that I love to create to sell to others that may fall in love with them just as much.

3. What do you love most about your work?

Creating feels like a puzzle to me! I love experimenting and seeing how I can put things together to make something beautiful! Even if I plan a design sometimes it doesn’t work out as I make it or I realize I overlooked something, and that’s when the finished product is often something unexpected, but sometimes more beautiful and memorable then the one I first planned.

4. What motivating music do you listen to? Share your playlist that gets and keeps you going!

I love Taylor Davis’ instrumental violin original ‘Starfire’! I listen to her violin playing when I have to study, and this particular song is my favourite.

5. What book are you reading right now and where is your favorite place to read?

I’m actually listening to an audio book! “Murder on the Flying Scotsman” by Carola Dunn. I love to read everywhere and I rarely go out without some form of book with me, be it physical, an e-book or an audio book. (Especially mysteries!)

Christmas In July Leader – Dawn from DeeDeeDeesigns

DeeDeeDeesigns

1. What is the name of your shop and where do you look for inspiration?

My shop is DeeDeeDeesigns. I create handmade ceramic home decor and jewellery, and also jewellery made using recycled items such as guitar strings, fabric, marbles and plastics.

My inspiration is largely drawn from the environment – reflected in the glazes and forms of my ceramics – and seen in the ideology of using recycled items in my jewellery practice.

2. How has your shop evolved over time?

When my shop initially opened I only old ceramic home wares. Due to an accident in 2011 where I severed a finger I began making jewellery. I could not make the larger products I was used to making on the potters wheel, so jewellery was a great way to keep creating, and at the same time opened a new world of creativity within my art practice.

3. What do you love most about your work?

I love that I can work from home and keep my own hours. I am a night owl, so being a full time self employed artist suits me down to the round.

4. What motivating music do you listen to? Share your playlist that gets and keeps you going!

Well, in my studio I can only receive one radio station, and that is the ABC which also incorporates the BBC – so I am a wealth of information!! But I do love listening to news and current affairs so it doesn’t bother me!

5. What book are you reading right now and where is your favorite place to read?

Currently I am reading Thomas Harding ‘Far from the Madding Crowd’ Where I like to read depends on the season. At the moment in Australia it is Winter so I love reading in bed with my electric blanket on (when I have the time)!

Next we visit the studio space of Ineke de Vries from InekedeVries who creates original art, art prints and handmade jewellery.

Please visit her shop and share some hearts!

Here’s what Ineke has to say about her workspace :

“I work from two spaces in my house.

My computer is in the backroom, that overlooks the garden. Here I do all my computer related stuff and digital art. I also use this room for photography, as it has the best light in the house.

I paint, draw and make jewellery in a small area, that is really a covered verandah at the front of the house.

The small size suits me, as it forces me to tidy up when I change between making jewellery and drawing.”
