International Seasons Introduction – #CIJSeasons

Contributor post by Mairi from mairidesign

This September we have International Seasons – #CIJSeasons planned!

Seasons begin on the first day of the months that includes the equinoxes and solstices. While one hemisphere is in one season, the other hemisphere will be in the opposite one. Everyone has their favorite season, even if the reason for loving the season is different.

Throughout September, Etsy Christmas In July team members will be sharing their thoughts, traditions, photos and Etsy items all about their favorite seasons.

Follow the team’s seasons articles here on the blog and find us on social media using the hashtag  #CIJSeasons.

Thank you to Alicia from AliciasFindings for organizing this month’s theme.

Now let’s check out the shows!

Winter, Spring, Summer, Or Fall

Contributor post by Michelle of EviesToolEmporium

I am blessed to live in Minnesota where there are all four distinct seasons. Winter brings the snow and warm nights in front of the fireplace. Spring is filled with longer days and gardening. Summer is family time at the lake and dining outdoors. Fall brings refreshing mornings and glorious leaves! I don’t have one favorite season – I love them all!

Etsy Christmas In July team members are creative all year long and since we are a global team our seasons are different depending on the hemisphere! Here are favorite winter, spring, summer and fall inspired items from members of the #EtsyCIJ team!

SPRING

JO from alustrousjewellery says:

I love Spring, when all the flowers start to bloom and vibrant colours start to appear. This natural Amethyst gem stone which I have set into a Sterling Silver pendant will add vibrant spring colour to your outfit.

Elisabeth Perez from LizPOriginals says:

Spring is my favorite season after a long winter and all colors being just white and gray–the first green and bloom is so exiting like these agate pendants in beautiful pink hues.

Hello, my favourite season is spring. I absolutely love the flowers this time of year! The lovely perfume from jasmine, roses, freesias, lavender and more! These cards remind me of spring time!

Summer

pam colangelo from PearlsVintagebyPam says:

I love summer! We vacation on Cape Cod. This year we retired so we spent most of the summer at the Cape. In 10 days we return to New York state. Summer means clamming at the beach, crabbing, fishing, pool time and walking. What a good life!! Of course it included shopping, listing and teaming On Etsy. Here’s the sun at the Cape.

FALL

Cristal Hughes from DesignsbyCristal says:

Fall is by far one of my favorite season!

You get to open some windows and let the fresh air just pour in around you. The leaves begin to change colors and this prompts us to take a drive through the north GA mountains or through Stone Mountain park to get close to Gods handy work!!! My morning walks are even more enjoyable!

While we are true sweet potato lovers we do love the smell of things pumpkin spice!

Kristen from KestrelCollection says:

Fall is my favorite season. I love the colors of leaves and the migration of birds. I love the drop in temperatures and the big cozy sweaters.

These earrings speak fall to me because they might be leaves changing to those beautiful bronze colors or they might be bird feathers sparkling in a fall sunset.

Richard and Tatiana from DesignstheLimit says:

Autumn is both my favorite and least favorite season of the year! Allergy season is in full effect, but the beauty of the season makes it glorious. We love the changing of the leaves and hope everyone has the opportunity to visit Virginia at least once to experience our fall foliage.

My favorite season is fall! I love the leaves changing color and the mild weather! Harvest time and Halloween and Dia de los Muertos! Just a wonderful season! This Scare Crow pillow cover is just right to capture the fall feeling!

Light My Fire

Blog contribution by Sheila and Shannon from BeadyEyedBird

It can be such a cozy time of year — and it’s especially cozy if you can curl up in front of a fireplace, wood stove, or even an outdoor bonfire. We wanted to know what our team members had in the way of fond memories of fire and related things. Here’s what they said:
Nancy Duncan from EponasCrystals said:
We enjoy sitting around a chiminea on the patio in the fall and watching the fire. I’ve even used those crystals that make the fire change to beautiful colors like red, blue and green! These crystal rings remind me of the beauty of the fire colors —

willowvalleyvintage from WillowValleyVintage said:

I think a fireplace is a perfect backdrop for family photos–whether there’s a fire burning or not. As our children grew up, if was fun to compare their heights each year as they stood next to their hung Christmas stockings! Valentine’s Day is just around the corner. This cool cat is the “purrfect” choice!

pam colangelo from PearlsVintagebyPam said:

We never had a fireplace growing up. We had an Oil Burner Furnace which always gave my mother a problem. So Of course I bought homes with Fireplaces which require cleaning and a Chimney Service visit for cleaning annually. In 2016 we Had a Gas Fireplace installed which is free from Cleaning. We use it everyday!

This little covered wagon lamp reminds me of the time folks had no heat or light without fire!

What bonfire is complete without a thermos full of yummy hot chocolate and some delicious munchies?? We love taking along a vintage insulated thermos set such as this one. Fill it up, pack it and carry it along to whatever outing you’re going on!

Mrs. A. from 2aEmporium said:

To get that cozy feeling, you’ll need a plaid flannel pillow to curl up with in front of the fireplace–

Dawn Whitehand from DeeDeeSupplies said:

I didn’t have an open fire growing up, but now I do – and I love it!! An open fire creates such a warm cozy environment to snuggle into over Winter!

I love the red, orange and golden tones, and the shapes that leap from the flames, and these faceted beads perfectly capture the reflected light that emanates from the dancing flames.

Karen Hafel from timetalentjewels said:

All we ever had as a kid were open fires down by the lake where we were ice skating and then we could sit by the fire and roast marshmallows and eat smores or have hot chocolate.

We were just reminiscing about that the other day while visiting my Dad at the nursing home. What memories you can have even grown up! Those were the good old days!!!

Richard and Tatiana from DesignstheLimit said:

The sight, smell, and sounds of a fire burning just bring a smile and warm memories. We love to cook and eat bbq meats year round and believe there is no substitute to be found indoors. Cooking is one of those life skills that it is never too early to start to learn and something you never want to give up!

When it comes to cooking over a hot fire, we recommend using the right equipment. This three-piece barbeque set includes the right tools for the job with long handles for safety and comfort.

June – Great Outdoors Month

Contributor post by Alicia of AliciasFindings

“Great Outdoors Month is a time for all to share in the natural splendor of which we are all proud inheritors. Whether camping, fishing, rock climbing, or playing in a neighborhood park, nature offers each of us the opportunity to get active, explore, and strengthen our bonds with family and friends. This month, let us celebrate our natural heritage by experiencing it together.”

Carrie of madcapz says:

I’m getting ready to do some amazing hiking with my family!

Wendy Joy of wjoydesigns states:

In June, our family begins to celebrate nature by going on many camping trips! This is where I get a lot of my inspiration for my creations and sometimes even items from our mother Earth to make them with! I look for unique stones along the rivers and lakes to use in my designs and pick flowers to press and use later on when they are dried. While camping, I have the time to slow down and connect with my inner voice. I bring my craft supplies with me in case I am inspired to create while in beautiful surroundings! I believe that this adds peaceful energy to my works and that those feelings can be passed to the wearer of my pieces

Lin Collette of rhodyart said:

Gosh, I’m a dedicated city girl, I hate bugs, hate camping, and can’t build a campfire to save my life. I even hate S’mores. That said, when I have the chance to walk with my brother through Ninigret Park in Charlestown, Rhode Island – its nature preserve – I am in awe at what I see, the wildflowers, the trees in fantastical shapes because they’re in a salt marsh and affected by the salt in some way, and so on. I love flowers and am always taking photos of flowers on my camera. I admire those who garden and those who go trekking.

Just don’t ask me to go along. This item is inspired by Downton Abbey’s Mr. Bates and Anna. I imagine that they love to go on long walks, in spite of Mr. Bates’ leg injury, and I would love to think they’re long romantic walks.

Melissa R of missy69 discusses:

It starts getting really hot here in June, in Florida. We are in a heat advisory, already, for this weekend. We do have a pool, but we love to visit our local springs and ocean beaches. One of my favorite things is to turn pictures we take into paintings.

Kelly of ColourscapeStudios says:

We go into winter here in Australia, so for me it means wrapping myself up in several layers and heading out with my camera before dawn to one of my favorite photography spots to enjoy the sunrise. Watching the fog lift off the lake is a wonderful sight and I love capturing it every possible chance.

Dawn Whitehand of DeeDeeDeesigns discussed:

I used to do a lot of camping many years ago – but these days like the comfort of my own bed!!

However, I have maintained an appreciation of the outdoors, especially while living on 10 acres in a rural part of Australia.

Many of my original art gift cards are inspired by the great outdoors, such as this one!

Not only is there a lot of nature and beauty in our crafts, but there is so much more in the Great Outdoors!

Get up, get out and enjoy your time outdoors.
