Very Vintage

Contributor post by Alicia from AliciasFindings

Vintage is a very big part of what is for sale here on Etsy. There are home decor, games, clothing and more. There are now things that are considered vintage from when I was growing up.

We want to know what you have in your shop that is vintage. We would also like you to tell us something about the item.

Linda from LazyYVintage says I love vintage and antiques, always have. Milk glass is a favorite as is American glassware makers. Fenton glass is beautiful and collectible. This lovely milk glass cake stand is designed in Fenton’s silver crest line of milk glass serving ware. So a lovely addition to your next holiday or dinner party.

NeatoKeen said I collect and sell vintage tea towels with fun graphics from the mid-century. I was first drawn to them because they made me smile. I am continually amazed that I keep finding “new” designs after a decade of looking for them. This London souvenir tea towel is one of my favorites because there are 55 people from all walks of life on it. I never tire of looking at it. In fact, I have one framed and hanging in my house!

Mrs A from 2aEmporium states that I like Vintage because it reminds me of happy memories from the past. I feature many vintage items at 2aEmporium. This Homer Laughlin Gravy Boat from the 1950s is one of my favorites. One day I was watching a rerun of The Andy Griffith Show. While Andy, Opie and Aunt Bee were eating dinner, one of them passed a gravy boat. I yelled “Hey, that’s a Homer Laughlin Gravy Boat. It looks just like the one I have in my shop.” Now, while I’m quite sure that the gravy boat I have listed isn’t the exact same one used on The Andy Griffith Show…wouldn’t it be fun to pretend it was?

Pam from PearlsVintagebyPam says vintage tea kettles are special. This copper Revere kettle is very special.  My father in law worked at Revere Copper and Brass in Rome NY. I am featuring a copper tea kettle.

Annie from DesignedbyAnneliese said who doesn’t love vintage books! This is a kids cookbook made in the early 1980’s. it has some cartoon type pictures drawn next to the recipes.

Food And Drink – #CIJParty 2017

Contributor post by Michelle of EviesToolEmporium

Good morning everyone! Once again this year we kick off our Etsy Christmas In July Party this year with food and dink! What is a party without refreshments?

I invited members of the Etsy Christmas In July team to share their Christmas Inspired food and drink items.

Barbara from HometownUSA says:

I have a spot on my kitchen wall where I hang a special crocheted pot holder which is always being changed to coincide with the current holiday or season. This one is for Christmas.

Rebecca Turkovics from OrnamentsByRebeccaT says:

I have a quilted fabric ornaments in what I call The Grillmaster Series. The were inspired by my best friends, both of which have passed away. The one I’m giving the link for immediately made me think of him. He was such a “Grillmaster”. And an exceptionally good one I might add. All four of the series brought back so many good memories of summer barbques with our families. The ornament would look great on stand for summer as well as on a Christmas tree because ornaments are #NotJustForChristmas.

KATERINA ILIAKI from OnceUponJewelsCo says:

In some religions they do not eat meat during a long period until the final week of Christmas. Fish is a very important dish for them as it is the only kind of meat they can consume and that is on certain days.

Linda from LazyYVintage says:

Drop on by any time and I’ll offer you a drink. Ice tea, wine, coffee? But drop by during the Christmas season, and I’ll offer you those some drinks in a lively, colorful Christmas glass. I can’t resist them. So much so that now my friends drop in and bring me a glass, or two, and if I’m really lucky, a set of holiday designed glassed. So, my set is a bit mismatched; but used often and full of memories.

There is nothing more festive than a cocktail during the holidays and this vintage tea towel supplies a dozen recipes for mixed drinks such as a Singapore Sling and an Orange Blossom. What would holidays be without the cookies, candy canes, sweet drinks, and delicious aromas?

When creating my Christmas items, I was reminded of the many family and friend parties we have had over the years and the excitement of seeing festive food and decorations all around the house. I hope that my cocktail punch reflects this joy.

Gizmos and Gadgets

Contributor post by Opal from Apron Strings Owl Lady

There’s gizmo’s and gadgets and who=zits and what-cha-ma-callits – and oh how people love them! They can range from small to large, techy to nerdy,
vintage to new – do you have any in your shop?

We’d love to hear your item’s story – and see your listing.

pam colangelo from PearlsVintagebyPam says

I just love this Wooden Masher, Reamer as it is my own personal antique. I bought it when I got my first house and had a strawberry patch and tomato plants. It was time to learn how to can so I could give family and friends some homemade tomato sauce and strawberry jelly. What can I say about my success? First of all no matter what I did the birds ate the strawberries even with netting on top and around. The tomato crop was better but the process of using the masher was VERY MESSY. More got around the kitchen than in the jars. I saved the tool all these years for the memories but now it is time to move on.

I love to use our zippered gadget holders for storing all our little things. I have one in my purse for pens and paper and another that I use for all my electronic chargers and cords when traveling.

This zippered pouch is sturdy and very easy to wash, and I have washed mine many times over the years. It still looks good as new.

This zippered gadget bag has an urban street art design. We photographed the art in Berlin. Remnants of the Berlin Wall still stand and are now splashed with political and hopeful art statements such as this Berlin Peace Flower.

October – New Arrivals

Lia Russo from Ghirlandiamo says:

I saw these so nice and so tiny pumpkins and immediately imagined them on a green meadow: it would be a nice contrast of colors!

So I prepared the base with some stabilized lichen (it means its real lichen treated, so that it remains always the same).

Some maple leaves with their stunning forms and shades completed my fall landscape.

I think it’s a colorful wreath to enhancing any front door in this beautiful period of the year.

Judith Messenger from FabriArts says:

I just added this tablerunner/wallhanging to my shop today. I’ve been working on stocking my shop with table linens such as tablerunners and placemats. I had been working in a more neutral pallet, and also finished a quilt this summer using earth tones. I wanted to make something much more colorful, so chose these lovely turquoise, blue and teal batiks for a set of placemats and the runner. The bright colors made me smile each time I worked on the set. These pieces could bring a touch of the Caribbean to your decor all year long!

Patricia and Rebecca from northandsouthshabby says:

Several  years ago I stumbled upon a similar big eared elf much like this one at a thrift shop – it was love at first sight! I have been obsessed with these elves ever since. ( Who am I kidding? I’m at the hording stage!) I soon discovered that these elves come in several sizes which range from large 7 inch ones, to tiny 2.25 inch pixies. The predominant outfit color is red, followed by white polka dot. There are a few blue and green outfits out there too, but not many. They were made in Japan, by a handful of manufacturers, who seemed to blatantly copy each other! All were made post World War II from the early 1950’s to the 1960’s. I haven’t been able to locate any locally of late and now engage in online bidding wars at estate sales.

To me this elf ( and the rest of his “cousins” in our shop) represent the quintessential nostalgic Christmas decoration. A little shabby, but bright, warmly conjuring up memories of bygone holidays. Guaranteed to bring a smile and lots Christmas cheer to any spot.

I love Swedish, Danish and Norwegian linens, but stopped buying and selling them when so many wonderful Scandinavian shops started up on Etsy. They have much better access to these amazing pieces than I. 1. What is the name of your shop and what is unique about your shop?

NeatoKeen. I sell vintage items, but I specialize in vintage tea towels from the Mid Century. The variety of designs is astounding!

2. Where do you live and how does where you live influence your creativity?

I live in Decatur, IL which is smack dab in the middle of the state (1/2 way between Chicago and St. Louis). I do a lot of treasure hunting all over the state.

3. What is it about having your own business that you love?

Setting my own schedule, wearing yoga pants every day and discovering that hard work and perseverance do pay off.

4. What is your greatest business achievement?

Reaching 5000 sales on Etsy in 5 years. And I think I’m still in the top 100 vintage sellers on Etsy (barely squeaking in, but I’m on the list) according to craftcount.com.

5. How would you like to see your business evolve?

Naturally I would like my sales to increase, but I’m pretty content with the pace of my shop. I would love to double my inventory; however, it’s becoming increasingly difficult to find pristine vintage linens.

Graduation Gifts

Contributor post by Megha of bytheartbug

Here are some wonderful  “Graduation Gift” ideas.

I don’t have anything that is specifically for graduations, but I do have items that can be given for graduations, such as this pen which is based on my shop logo.

The actual logo is an original collage piece, one of the first ones that I did and one of the few early ones I’ve kept lol. The collage is in my favorite colors, and shows a Victorian woman who thinks it’s time for a change. I’ve never listed the actual collage for sale in the shop – maybe I should.

Anyway, I decided to have the pens made as a try-out in the shop and much to my surprise most of those I ordered have sold. I also gave a bunch as Christmas gifts to friends and family.

I’ve no specific graduation present, unless you want to give a personalized portrait or a wreath.

But I created graduation favors.

In Italy, on this occasion, we generally use red color and little decors ( a ladybug or an owl ).

We believe they are lucky charms.
