Tell us about yourself.

Fall is my favorite season, and my favorite TV show is “Gilmore Girls”. I also love seeing how the world looks out the window of an airplane. It’s amazing how different things look from the sky.m

When did you open your business and what make you decide to do so?

I opened the business this past summer. Ever since I was a little kid, I’ve loved creating handmade gifts for family and friends. I enjoy the crafting process, and people seem to enjoy getting something unique.

My friends actually were the ones that encouraged me to open the shop.m1

Tell us a bit about your products.

Everything in my shop is handmade by me from repurposed or upcycled materials. I sell Christmas ornaments and party and holiday decorations, as well as some other small gift items. I expect the range of things I carry in the shop to evolve as I find new ways to upcycle.m3

What inspires your work?

Partly recycling and partly playing with color. I think it’s important to use our resources carefully and not be wasteful. By taking a t-shirt that might not be wearable anymore and making it into yarn, it can find new life as a coaster, a basket, or a floor mat.  That said, people still like to use things that are pleasing to the eye. Whatever I’m making, whatever material I use, I always take color and design into account as well.m4

What are your future goals for the business this year? What is your dream for this business?

To come up with new and different items to list in the shop. I’d also like to be more active in social media, and get more feedback from people about the kinds of items they’d like to see.m5

What makes your business stand out from businesses that sell similar products?

This is a tough question because there are so many great shops on Etsy that sell small handmade items. I think mine is a little different in that I have focused on using repurposed materials in every product that I offer.m6

Tell us a bit about your work space. Do you have a separate studio?

I have an old kitchen table I picked up at a garage sale several years ago that sits in the loft of my condo. It’s a nice place to work because there is a window to provide natural light during the daytime, and the table is big so I frequently have more than one project in progress at a time.m7

What have you learned since opening your business that you wish you had known before hand?

That it wasn’t going to be easy.  In theory selling things in an online shop sounds like it should be simple, but it’s a lot of work, and you have to be patient. I’m also very new to this, so I still have a lot of learning to do, and welcome any tips from some of the more seasoned sellers!m8

Any advice for those thinking about selling on Etsy?

Be persistent, and make sure you enjoy what you’re doing.m9

When you’re not working, what do you like to do to unwind and have fun? Do you have any hobbies?

This venture is actually a hobby of mine. I have a day job, so having an Etsy shop is one of the ways I break up the routine from my usually 9 to 5. I also like running and traveling to new places.m10

What is your favorite quote?

“He who works with his hands is a laborer.
He who works with his hands and his head is a craftsman.
He who works with his hands and his head and his heart is an artist”.

I believe that’s from St. Francis of Assisim11

Where can people find out more about your business?

On Instagram! I post pictures there showing more of the process of how I make the items in my shop.

Is there anything else you’d like to share?

Whatever you’re doing, try to be fully in the moment and appreciate the good things you have.m13

Welcome New Team Members For June – Part One

Contributor post by Dawn from DeeDeeDeesigns
The team had many new members join during June in anticipation of the annual Christmas in July event. Please join us in welcoming them to our fantastic team! Visit their shop, fave some items, maybe even share some shops/items on your social media channels!!
And here are some of our new members for June!

I joined with the intention of participating the Christmas In July promo.
I am a self-taught woodworker/furniture maker who has spent a fair amount of time and effort refining a design for a folding stool/table. In time it will be available in three heights and will be available with a matching table.
What makes it special? While it has the appearance of simplicity, the accuracy required while making put it more in the reals of engineered rather than just made. The versatility of the item is one of its stand out features. A seat, a table, a bedside, this can be all these things and more. As you can gather, I’m quite proud of the design

I sell all sorts of vintage retro items. I love vintage jewellery and brooches in particular – they remind me of a time when things were more stylish and elegant. That’s why this pretty Aqua coloured brooch is so special to me!

Hi everyone! I joined the Team to participate in the Christmas in July promotion.
I love working with fine silver (amongst other mediums) and these earrings really appealed to me with their texture and patina.

I joined the team to take part in Christmas in July 2016, I am not sure how yet.
I sell vintage kokeshi doll, a subject that I am passionate about! I hunt them through antique markets, thrift stores etc in Japan, where I live.

Hi everyone,
I’m not really new. My original shop Roses Workshop is still open, but I’ve opened a new shop just for my felt creations. I intend to add lots more items over the next week, and concentrate my CIJ promotion on this new shop.
Here’s a little taster:

Pink felt rosebud brooch

Hello! I’m planning on adding more vintage items, including Holiday and Winter items, to my shop soon. So I’m happy to be part of this team! Thanks

Set of 2 Repro Christmas postcards

Hi! I’ve just discovered and joined this team to be involved in the Winter .. Christmas in July Sale.
I create mostly ceramic pendants, also buttons, spoons, cups and bowls.
The aim of my shop to help people connect more with the earth by wearing jewellery made from the earth, eating from spoons and bowls handmade made from the earth. There is really something very nurturing about these things.

Hi I am a mixed media artist who lives in Kentucky. I’ve just started creating Christmas items for my shop and would love to participate in Christmas in July. This is a simple Christmas tree that makes me happy and I hope will make someone else happy, too.

Hello! I’m new to selling on Easy, and just joined the team today! My shop is filled with handmade goods, including holiday and party decorations, all made from repurposed materials. I am excited to be a new member of this community!
The ornaments I make are crafted from old greeting cards. I like taking materials that otherwise would have ended up in a landfill and turning it into something new and beautiful.

Hi, I’m Gillian and I’ve just joined the team! I have a vintage shop and already have quite a few Christmas items which I will be adding to the shop over the next few days in preparation for putting them on sale on July 1st.
First item is these beautiful vintage shiny plastic baubles from the former East Germany, still in their original box:

Hello, I’m a doll maker from the UK, making Waldorf inspired natural fibre dolls for Christmas. I am currently developing some new dolls for Christmas which I hope to have ready for July but here is my best seller so far.
Looking forward to being part of your team and joining in.

I joined to take part in the Christmas in July event.
I sell fandom inspired jewellery at affordable prices. Like this expandable mermaid bangle. I’m in love with it. The resin fish scale cabochon (choose from 9 different colours) changes colour as light hits it and the crystal glass bead (choose from 16 colours) adds a touch of sparkle. Besides, who doesn’t love mermaids?!

Hello, I’m new to Christmas in July.
I make different kinds of wreaths and right now this is my favorite. Even if I cannot decide which one.

Only just discovered this team! We are two sisters who are also complementary therapists and beading is our creative passion. We make jewellery using semi-precious gemstones that are believed to have a beneficial effect on both body and mind.
Looking forward to getting involved!

I’ve been on Etsy since 2010, but am getting back into the promotional side of things (which I’ve not spent nearly enough time on lately). With the exception 2015, I’ve always participated in the CIJ sale – usually with great success!
I create pendant necklaces from recycled Scrabble tiles and have added glass dome pendants to my shoppe this year as well. Hoping to develop a following for the new style in order to have a great holiday season later this year!

Hi, I am Flora. Though I have had my Etsy shop for over a year now, the whole ‘team’ idea is very new to me. I feel like I’m living under a rock sometimes.  This is also my first year of offering discount. I feel both excited and little bit of panic.
I sell handmade jewelry. Most of my inspiration comes from nature. Here is one of my latest creations. Peacock inspired earrings with genuine malachite beads.

Next we visit the workspace of Maureen Wood from MoCycled who creates a range of handmade gifts using upcycled materials.

Pleas visit Maureen’s shop and maybe heart some of her designs, or maybe even make a purchase!

Here’s what Maureen has to say about her workspace:

My workspace is an old kitchen table that I bought at a garage sale several years ago. It’s in a perpetual state of organized chaos, but it works for me. At least the ‘mess’ is (mostly) contained to one part of the house this way!
