Sailor Blue – Pantone Fashion Color For Spring 2018

Contributor post by Michelle of EviesToolEmporium

Color trends are a wonderful way to celebrate the seasons!

According to Pantone one of the top colors for Spring 2018 is Sailor Blue.

PANTONE 19-4034
Sailor Blue

The navy like Sailor Blue anchors the palette.

PANTONE 19-4034
Sailor Blue

Members of the Etsy Christmas In July Team have been inspired by the color Sailor Blue! They have created items in their shops reflecting this inspiration! Here are a few!

Linda Britt from LindaBrittDesign says:

Celebrations, carnivals and parties inspired me to make these shiny blue and gold earrings. Just enough gold to sparkle and just enough shine for joy!

Mairi from mairidesign says:

Well, Hello Sailor! Yes, my blue yachts are ready to set sail to whichever sea or ocean you are partying on. These lightweight earrings dangle in the sea breeze, and glisten in the sunlight, and are sure to be the perfect sailing accessory this summer. Ahoy Cap’n, set sail, and let’s explore the ocean waves.

mistycat1234 from carolinagirlz2 says:

This Nordic Needle Home for Christmas counted cross stitch pattern embodies the Sailor Blue color in an unexpected way in a series of yearly Christmas plates that devote each design to a season from the winter holidays.

Mary Bollinger from ByFreddismom says:

I have been making snowmen and assorted ornaments for several years now. One of my goals each year is to try to use a great variety of colors with my snowmen’s hats and scarves. Of course, blue is a favorite!

patontheback from patontheback says:

One of my favorite colors is navy blue. It is a color that looks good on just about every skin color. It’s a classic. This particular fabric is organic, too, so you can feel good about our blue earth when you use it!

Items Of The Week: Nature

Contributor post by Michelle of EviesToolEmporium

Member Feature: LindaBrittDesign

Contributor post by Cindy Humphrey of Cynhumphrey

Please join us in welcoming Linda Britt of LindaBrittDesign, our featured member!

Tell us about yourself.

I’m Linda Britt, a creative person who has always made things with my hands.  I am an artist, a creator of handmade jewelry and a retired interior designer.

I grew up in the Midwest (Missouri), got my graduate degree in Housing and Interior Design and married my teenage sweetheart.  We moved to California where I taught home economics and art in high schools.
Eventually we moved to Tucson Arizona and I started my interior design business.  22 years later my husband died and several years later I met Peter.  It was one of those ‘online’ meetings!

We now live in Prescott Arizona, a charming community founded in 1863 with over 500 historic landmark homes.  (Lots of Victorians)

My home is at the edge of the Prescott National Forest and I get to create among the pine trees with big black ravens doing daily patrols through the trees.  Lots of birds, deer, javelinas and other wildlife visit us.

I love nature and photography and keeping busy!

When did you open your business and what make you decide to do so?

I dabbled in making jewelry for years but when my husband died, I needed to focus my energy on something besides my interior design business.  My dad and brothers mined a stone in the Mojave Desert in the 1970’s so I had some background.  When my dad died I received many of the cabochons he cut from the stone.  It made sense to get serious about making jewelry.  I discovered the fun of creating with metal clay, took classes and became certified to teach.  I kept taking classes and experimenting and learning.

When I retired about 10 years ago and moved to Prescott Arizona, I started my jewelry design business – really as a hobby.  Now I just can’t stop creating!

Tell us a bit about your products.

My handcrafted jewelry is designed for the woman who wants something unique to show her individuality.  Each piece of my jewelry is handmade by me and there are no two pieces exactly alike.  My choice of materials range from metal clays, sheet metal, wire, polymer clay and beads.  I love designing and creating to enhance an individual’s personality.

What inspires your work?

Nature inspires me.  The colors of a birds feather, the wind on grasses in a lake, the patterns of insects, the petals of a flower. You name it.  I love to find the line and structure of plants.  Looking closely as I go on walks or listening to classical music or playing with my lizards give me time to let my mind wander for ideas to come.

What are your future goals for the business this year? What is your dream for this business?

I’ve started working with the idea of collections – 10 related items in a collection.  I am going to tell a story in those 10 items and it is exciting to build that idea.  I’m more focused and I think more creative.

This year I am building a website (it is almost done) and that is a challenge I’m enjoying.  I hope everyone who sees it will also enjoy it!  At the beginning I will have 2 collections and will be adding more as I get the photos taken.  I’m surprised at how many hours this takes!

I also want to add men’s jewelry to my lineup.

What makes your business stand out from businesses that sell similar products?

My business reflects my desire to make jewelry for the individual woman.  I make one of a kind pieces and use a variety of materials.  Quality craftsmanship and attention to detail are very important to me.

Tell us a bit about your work space. Do you have a separate studio?

My studio is half of a long room that was once a porch.  It is enclosed with lots of windows where I can see the pine trees sway and the birds visit on the feeders.  The squirrels romp on the railing and I’m very entertained!  The other half of the room is Peter’s office where he works on his computers and builds harpsichords.

I have a U shaped arrangement in my half of the long room where I work with various materials in different areas.  It gets a little crowded if I don’t clean up often!

What have you learned since opening your business that you wish you had known before hand?

Balancing fun things to do with the doing of business (record keeping, inventory, etc) is often difficult and takes planning.  Some days I just want to play!

I also have a 4′ display space in a local art market and keeping the inventories separate from Etsy has been a learning experience.

Any advice for those thinking about selling on Etsy?

Don’t expect instant success.  There is lots of competition and a method to succeeding.  Take some classes on SEO’s – I found Renee Christine’s to be most helpful (look her up online).  Also is a good tool.  Be prepared to spend time getting to success.

Seeing and hearing from people around the world is fascinating and exciting.  Explore that with Etsy.

When you’re not working, what do you like to do to unwind and have fun? Do you have any hobbies?

I love to read mystery novels and occasionally practice the keyboard.  I’m an avid birder, love my bearded dragon and take daily walks.

In the evenings Peter and I listen to classical music with a glass of wine and a fire in the fireplace in winter. Our cabin in the woods feels like a vacation home!   Actually I love being retired.

What is your favorite quote?

“Don’t be afraid to go where you’ve never gone before or do what you’ve never done.  Because both are necessary to have what you have never had or be who you’ve never been.”  The Universe

Where can people find out more about your business?

Is there anything else you’d like to share?

Finding something that I love doing whether I sell it or not was my key to success.

Pink Lavender – Pantone Fashion Color For Spring 2018

Contributor post by Michelle of EviesToolEmporium

Color trends are a wonderful way to celebrate the seasons!

According to Pantone one of the top colors for Spring 2018 is Pink Lavender.

PANTONE 14-3207
Pink Lavender
Pink Lavender is a soft and romantic violet rose that charms with its soothing sense of quiescence.

Members of the Etsy Christmas In July Team have been inspired by the color Pink Lavender! They have created items in their shops reflecting this inspiration! Here are a few!

Marta Gotliba from GottliebTextiles says:

This beautiful Scandinavian style rag rug is made by my mom. She doesn’t have an Etsy shop so I dared to add this fantastic handmade item to my textile shop hoping that it will be noticed by someone who appreciates one of a kind craft work and is in a need of a country style rag rug in trendy colors. I will be delighted if this fantastic lavender/pink/purple carpet finds its new home.

Marta Gotlība from ArtByMartaGotliba says:

When the spring comes I always want to work with pink and pastel colors. This original pink lavender macaroons drawing in soft and romantic shades will be a perfect addition to a kitchen interior.

Karen Hafel from timetalentjewels says:

I was inspired when I found these beads because the color was so different and the beads were so yummy. Pink Lavender is a lovely name for a beautiful bracelet, don’t you think?

Linda Britt from LindaBrittDesign says:

I wanted to make a pair of long earrings that combined my ‘pink lavender’ jasper square beads with crystals and pearls. The range of color and sparkle made me think of my grandmother’s beds of blooming flowers in the early morning dew.

Mairi from mairidesign says:

Pink Lavender is just the shade I’ve been looking for to describe the glass used for this pendant – otherwise, it’s dusky pinkish purplish with wispy cotton-candy-floss white.

Memories of that childhood treat inspired this pendant but sticky fingers are not a problem when you wear this necklace to the funfair or carnival.

Cindy Humphrey from Cynhumphrey says:

Owls are very trending items. I think most of us know someone who loves owls in some form or another! Pair the popularity of the owl with a trending Pantone color of the year and you have an excellent gift idea! This adorable owl scarf slide can be worn all year long too!

Fresh Holiday Trends for 2017: Etsy

Contributor post by Michelle of EviesToolEmporium

I am fascinated by trends. Are you? There are weather trends, work place trends, business trends, job trends, food trends, real estate trends, hair trends, fashion trends color trends and so on.

The definition of a trend is a general direction in which something is developing or changing. In college I took several classes on trends. I remember distinctly studying pre peak – peak – post peak timelines. I find trends intriguing. They pique my curiosity.

Trends unite us. Give us a common ground. A connecting point.

This article is inspired by the Fresh Holiday Trends for 2017: Etsy article on the Etsy blog.

The trends are: Trending Holiday Home Decor (The New Classics, Sophisticated Stockings, and Moody Tablescapes), Trending Holiday Gifts (Deluxe Pet Gifts, Cosmic Appeal, Hometown Pride and Treat Yo’self) and Trending Presentation Ideas (Creative Wrapping). Here are a few trend inspired items from members of the Etsy Christmas In July team.

Trending Holiday Home Decor

The New Classics

Przemila K from CanisArtStudio says:.

I am a lover of nature and I know how important ecology is to our lives. Observing wild birds and animals in nature is what brings the most joy and relaxation. I want to share my impressions and love for wild nature and animals. But for me, ecology is also important and what we do to protect our planet. That’s why I’ve designed a series of home decorations that I make from waste materials. I use wood remnants from the production of other objects: small pieces of panels and frames, these pieces were going to be burned, and I give them a new life. It requires more of my time and work because everything is completely different. It took a lot of time to match those pieces to make them a nice composed whole. That’s why each of these objects is different and unique. and my decorations are made of 100% natural materials. I hope that my decorations bring joy and happiness and make a smile.

Trending Holiday Gifts

Cosmic Appeal

Stock Lane Studio from StockLaneStudio says:

The stars are trending on Etsy this year and Stock Lane Studio has plenty of Cosmic appeal. Love is written in the stars in our SLS cosmic heart printable. This heart art is great year-round, but especially fitting as a holiday gift. Nursery decor, wall art or a card for a loved one, it’s very versatile. Since it’s digital, it can also be used electronically. Announce an engagement or send a message to a loved one using your downloaded art as a backdrop. Don’t have time to do it yourself? SLS LOVES to personalize, just send us a message and we can work with you. We also offer a printed version of this heart art, and have more Night Sky designs in our shop.

Treat Yo’self

susannah raine-haddad from zouzousbasement says:

This desserts coloring book comes with markers/colored pencils or by itself.

Linda Britt from LindaBrittDesign says:

Treat yourself to a pair of these unique handmade earrings – Only you will have a pair like them! They are great for the holidays!

Nancy Duncan from EponasCrystals says:

Treat yourself to a beautiful wrap bracelet with high quality Czech glass beads in tones of green, gold and brown with a golden lotus charm.

Trending Presentation Ideas

Creative Wrapping

Susan McCarthy from WellDressedCupcakes says:

I just added this section to my shop for custom tags for holidays and all celebrations.

I have always loved to give homemade gifts to family. I think it started way before I became an adult! I was always making or creating something and it never stopped. The 1st year I was married -we had absolutely no money. My gift to my husband was all handmade ornaments for our 1st tree. I always love trying something new – sewing, knitting and now my Etsy shop. These tags will be perfect for some of my gifts this year. I added some for my personal homemade gifts and also baking tags which reminds me I need to start planning for cookies.

Geometrics are decorative patterns or designs based on geometric shapes. They can be used in home decor, supplies and so much more.

Here at CIJ we want you to show us all your geometric items. Please tell us about your item, including what geometric shape it is.

Gillian from Gillisflowers says this earring features 2-D and 3-D geometric shapes, two triangles a kite and a cuboid bead to finish it off. Although my jewellery is mainly floral, it all starts with a geometric shape usually a square.

Art deco earrings

Pam from PamsPawsJewelry said these are vintage earrings with cool green geometric shapes! They have a very modern abstract design!

Richard and Tatiana from DesignstheLimit states that math is the universal language of thinking minds and Geometry is its functions. If you see math everywhere you go, you may enjoy this elegant wine bottle stopper and its geometric shape! Our tapered optic crystal wine bottle stopper is a geometric delight. We always get great feedback from this item as the picture does not do it justice at all and we plan on retaking the pictures, but never seem to find the time! The bottle stopper itself is all crystal and we need to add a picture of it without the bottle in the future. An Etsy sellers work is never done…..

Linda from LazyYVintage says cuff links are finding their way back into the mainstream for men’s accessories and jewelry. This set is triangular in design with the shape of the cuff links as well as the atomic design embossed on them.

Dawn from DeeDeeSupplies said these geometric faceted beads are ideal for a wide range of craft projects, including jewellery making, costume design, scrapbooking, bunting and more!!

They are available in various colours and quantities.

Tear drop acrylic sew on beads

Sherri from ButterflyFeetDigital states that this is a digital paper pack. The design has various shapes and sizes in rounded corner squares and rectangles. Fun squares in fun color combinations. Great for creating invitations or party decor, scrapbooking or card making.

Cindy from Cynhumphrey said I love playing around with different shapes when designing my jewelry. This is a cute pair of light weight earrings using ovals and circles. The colors are perfect for summer but can certainly be worn with many different outfits throughout the entire year.

Blue and white geometric shaped earrings

NauticoCreations states this is a handmade quilt featuring octagon shaped pieces in oranges and greens. The fabric is a batik pattern and the colors make a great fall statement.

Linda from LindaBrittDesign says the geometry of repeated shapes to form a circle make this a unique pendant. My high school geometry teacher would be proud!
