March – New Arrivals

Contributor post by Michelle of EviesToolEmporium

Join the Christmas In July team as we celebrate March – New Arrivals.

Valerie Brown from FirepanJewellery says:

I love color, so the Pantone list is right up my alley! I had an opportunity to turn the kiln on and now have new enameled earrings inspired by the 2016 colors! This is a fun pair I made by combining two colors of enamel, resulting in “Rose quartz + Serenity” earrings. This is a fun and easy way to bring the new color trends into your wardrobe!

VeeVee from VeeVeesCreations says:

These flowers are a personal favorite. I created this flower to represent spring and Easter. I used high quality lavender and sea-foam green jump rings to create the flower.

When I finished this flower, I knew that it would be a perfect gift for my own mother. She has always loved spring and lavender is one of her favorite colors. When my nieces saw this necklace, they all wanted one. It is a necklace that can be loved by woman of all ages.

Nancy Duncan from EponasCrystals says:

I seem to be fascinated with pink at the moment. Although I don’t wear much pink myself, I find my self drawn to it. I made this bracelet with rose-pink nylon cord and pink pearls and Swarovski crystals. Very feminine and dainty.

Marjorie Scenna from mscenna says:

This colorful flower ornament and sun catcher features bright and fun colors like you might find in a spring garden or rainbow!

I began this ornament with the fun flower, a recycled clip-on earring. Looking at the colors, I quickly saw a rainbow of colors which made me think of spring flowers and rainbows, of course. The strand of colorful beads are a recycled and vintage mix with fun shapes and textures.

This would be a colorful accent for a window but wouldn’t it be a great accent in a garden too?

Corkycrafts from Corkycrafts says:

I keep this creation in my shop during wedding season, it’s a great alternative for floral and small enough the flower girl can walk down the aisle with. I made these for mistletoe at Christmas time and now presenting for wedding season.

I made these lovely metallic envelopes with wedding season in mind! I love the colours and patterns on them. Apart from weddings, they can also be used for gift cards, money envelopes, snail mail, planner pockets…

Debbie Gilbert from License2Craft says:

Having a full shop and selection of hot/cold therapy wraps & packs for all parts of the body, I realized and had several inquires about children’s packs. How did I miss this?

So, starting this month I have begun to start carrying packs with children especially in mind. It goes without saying that with children there will be bumps, bruises, skinned knees & elbows, fever, tummy aches and plan old “growing pains!” These Boo-Boo packs are all designed with fun, recognizable fabric patterns and sized just right for their tiny hands. They will want to use them…because they are just “so darned cute!” Making them a perfect gift for a new mom or to have on hand when the grand kids come to visit. These packs would also make a perfect children’s party favor.

Be prepared by keeping one in the freezer, and one on hand to pop in the microwave on a moments notice. You will be “the hero” with these packs for all their “Ouchies!”

Surviving Cabin Fever

Contributor post by Sheila from BeadyEyedBird

Crafting and developing new skills is a great way to survive the winter doldrums.

Here at the Christmas in July team, we thought there couldn’t be a better way to beat the winter blues than to share our respective ‘survival tips’ with each other. Here’s what some of our team members have done and created while ‘trapped’ inside.

Sherri from ButterflyFeetDigital says:

This is my new listing – and an example of what I LOVE about January. We have snow on top of snow, but I enjoy being inside and doing some creative doodling! I guess my only tip is that winter will last til it’s over, might as well do something you enjoy.

Carola Bartz from CarolaBartz says:

When it’s cold and gray outside I love to cozy up on the couch with a mug of hot cocoa and a good book. Reading takes me in a different world. One book in particular, Eowyn Ivey’s “The Snow Child”, fascinated me very much. It takes place in the cold winters in Alaska and inspired me to create this painting that also has the title “Snow Child”. I really loved how my way to “survive” the winter blues took me to creating something new.

Knowing we’re into January and and Easter are right around the corner, I thought since there’s cold temps and lots of snow I’d stay inside and start work on Easter items.

This winter is not too bad yet, but it’s far from over. Last year, though was a completely different story. Here is a photo of New England Blitz 2015.

So I over prepared for this winter season. Our Christmas stockings were full of warm fuzzy socks and presents under the tree included adult coloring books and needle point. We still have our ‘game table’ set up so we don’t have to move the Monopoly Game or puzzle around.

Wendy WN from WoodNotions says:
During the winter, after the holidays have passed, I spend my time designing. I have a list of requests/ideas that I create during the holidays. Since designing cards and ornaments is my passion, I look forward to these quiet times to relax and lose myself in the process.

I’ve just completed my first 2016 design project that I did for a pair of dog parents. I thought this one was particularly satisfying, during these winter months, because the dogs name was “Sunshine”, AKA “LMS” (Little Miss Sunshine). They sent me photos of their cute, cheerful and rambunctious, miniature Australian shepherd. It’s so nice to capture a happy face, that makes you smile every time you work on it. I made a large wood-cut for them to frame and display year round, and a smaller ornament, that they were happy to allow me to add to my shop offerings.

My survival tips for the winter doldrums: Dress warm and get out and enjoy the great outdoors. Start making plans for small and large projects, and figure out how to tackle those challenges of this past holiday season.

With a Bath & Body Gift Shop, I can always keep winter boredom at bay, because there is always soap to pour, bath salts to mix and lotion to make. And my house always smells like heaven! Winter is the perfect time to work on new recipes and combinations of ingredients for new product lines too! But what I really like to do is stock up my crochet items! Netflix, herbal tea and miles and miles of crochet cotton and I’m a happy girl. Let it snow!

After a relatively mild winter, it recently turned very cold in London and it’s freezing outside!

So this weekend that just passed I stayed in nice and warm and kept myself occupied within the same walls all day by knitting up this scarf.

I originally made this with orange pom poms for a friend at Christmas; it went down so well with her nursing colleagues who were working with her on Christmas Day that I thought I’d make another one, and last weekend was the perfect opportunity!

Debbie Gilbert from License2Craft says:

Only in Florida now for 2 years, my memories are still sharp as to life back in my home state of Maine with those long, cold winter months. Memories of harsh winters, days where it got dark so early, and “skating” on icy roads with the car! The worst winter I remember was when the “Great Ice Storm of 1998” hit Maine. It caused massive damage to our trees and electrical infrastructure all over the area, leading to widespread long-term power outages. Personally, the road that I lived on was without road access and power for 3 weeks! We stayed with our neighbor, passing the days playing games and telling stories in their home, as they had wood heat.

Just thinking of the hours of being in the cold and hours of shoveling snow makes be shiver! Nothing like curling up on the couch after, grabbing a hot pack and settling in for some snuggle time or a great book…

Pinterest Gift Guides: Fitness And Wearable Tech And Personalized Touches

Contributor post by Michelle of EviesToolEmporium

The 2015 Etsy Holiday Merchandising Guide was released on October 6th, 2015.

The Christmas In July team turned the Holiday Merchandising Guide Into Pinterest Gift Guides.

Let’s enjoy the trends : Fitness And Wearable Tech and Personalized Touches.

Fitness And Wearable Tech

Debbie Gilbert from License2Craft says:

With more and more of us relying on computers, cell phones and gaming now, it is causing an all time high effect on wrist & hand problems. Problems including but certainly not limited to tendonitis, Carpal Tunnel, Texting Thumb and more.

Heat or Cold is a natural, common way to relieve the pain associated with these problems. I have two products designed with just this in mind. Each are filled with a combination of Flax Seed & Rice, and can be used either Hot or Cold, depending upon what is preferred or needed. They can even be worn while using your phone, computer or while gaming! Offering relief, comfort and support for the hand and wrist.

Personalized Touches

Sue and Misty from shabbyshopgirls says:

We love Christmas Stocking kits – especially these made by Bucilla. They are craft kits that, when completed, have loads of sequins and detail and can be personalized with any name while you are making it! A wonderful craft kit for the ultimate Christmas crafter.

Ina from InaSudjana says:

Most of my items are personalized in my shop.. and I love doing them for my customers as I think everyone is special and deserves non-mass-produced items. Something that is made just for them!

CartoCreative from CartoCreative says:

All of the pieces in our shop can be personalized, the default options to choose from are size and color, but customers can also add their names, heart a place, and much more.

Our Boston marathon print was created after a close friend of mine ran in the 2014 race. I was so proud of her and wanted to do something to commemorate all of her hard work. The print includes the date, name, and miles of the marathon, and underneath customers can include the runner’s finish time, name, and bib number.

I’ve always wanted to run a marathon, but for now, I just have to be in awe of people who do. I hope our prints can help runners’ memorialize their success.

Richard and Tatiana from DesignstheLimit says:

Our shop is the complete opposite of a gift card and Everything we sell is personalized! When shopping at Design’s the Limit, we give our customers three options for personalizing the products we sell.

First, you can choose from any of our designs and substitute any font from our selection. We try to provide a selection of design options to suit every taste and by changing the font, you give the design a unique feel. We submit proofs on request for customers if they have any concerns. We have a large variety of monogram designs to choose from, more fonts than we can count in our system, and the desire to make each item personal and unique.

We also offer Inspired Designs where customers can select a product and provide us with an inspiration for personalization. Whether it be custom text, a desired themes, or a specific image we work with our customers to create unique and inspired gifts for any occasion. These are the most memorable orders and typically the most thankful of our customers. Several of our Inspired Designs have ended up being listed in our shop for other customers to purchase and the others are in our portfolio in case the need arises again.

For businesses, we offer to use logos submitted and for individuals we accept images submitted as long as they are in the public domain. This aspect of our business is the most difficult as we have received more requests than we can count for copyrighted images. To provide customer service as personal as the gifts we sell, we have on several occasions gone as far as to contact companies and other organizations to receive permission for one-time use of a copyrighted image and have been able to successfully complete a few.

We have completed many orders for our Inspired Design frames for customers who have provided a travel destination, a housewarming location, a theme or interest, or have provided the photograph they wish to frame for us to create the design around. At Design’s the Limit, the only limitation is our customers desires and imagination. If you know what you want, let us help you bring your ideas to life.

World Kindness Day

Contributor post by Alicia of AliciasFindings

According to the World Kindness Movement website, World Kindness Day is intended to “build a kinder and more compassionate world”.

HI! We have a lovely Mother Theresa onesie. The quote says “Kindness begins with a smile”. All of our onesies are 100% organic cotton, and Fair Trade certified (which means that they are produced in an ethical manner – providing a living wage for all involved in the production process, safe working conditions, access to medical care for employees, etc.)  #kindnesswins

Sarah Johnson from BellaBoutique23 states:

“When hands reach out in friendship hearts are touched with joy” This candle tea light card makes a sweet gift for a friend and is a great reminder that we should reach out to friends, family, even strangers to spread kindness. The result of joy happens not only for those we help but our hearts will be full of joy as we love others.

Dawn Whitehand from DeeDeeDeesigns said:

This pair of earrings is made using recycled paper, and as such is kind as it leaves a small footprint on the environment.

The earrings are one of four products I designed specifically for the MakeForGood campaign which is about spreading awareness and fund-raising for the education of girls in developing countries.

The campaign is a joint initiative of Etsy Australian and Plan International and involves Australian Etsy shops. I think this campaign is very appropriate for World Kindness Day

Ina from InaSudjana says:
made with love for the etsy makeforgood campaign. Everything about this dreamer spells love and kindness to me: the pillowy cloud gives hope, the stars illuminate the paths we choose in life, and the pastel colours soften the heart.

Printables are kind to the earth – you can download them and then use as you want. They are also kind to your wallet – you can re-use your instant download art as often as you want. This Woodland Word Art is a favorite of mine because it reflects the true power of just one good friend. I love Abraham Lincoln’s quote.

Kindness is essential in this world. I have always loved this quote…
“Wherever there is a human in need, there is an opportunity for kindness and to make a difference.”
We all must take care of ourselves in order to spread “kindness” to others. Getting a great night sleep is so important. Use our Hot or Cold Eye Pillows to block out room light and soothe and revive those tired eyes.

International Internet Day – October 29th

Contributor post by Dawn from DeeDeeDeesigns

International Internet Day

The Internet, defined as a remote connection between two computers, was first achieved on October 29, 1969 and since 2005 October 29 has been celebrated as International Internet Day. It is a day to celebrate the people who helped build the internet, while also giving us a moment to reflect on all the ways that it has changed our lives forever – and, of course, we wouldn’t have our Etsy shops without it!

I asked the Etsy Christmas in July team members if they had an item in their shop related to the Internet? Here’s what they had to say…

For any computer geek that loves the internet too much!

il_570xN.827493591_80qe

We all spend a lot of time on computers. It is so important to have good ergonomic support and give as much relief and comfort to our wrists and hands. These Wrist Supports can be used every day or for a heat in the microwave or cool in the refrigerator for an added “treat” or extra relief.

il_570xN.785478150_60t6

Dawn Whitehand from DeeDeeDeesigns says

When I sit at my computer it is usually to work – downloading my listing photos, editing them, creating new listings, marketing my listing on social media and networking with other sellers. This is very time-consuming, and I drink several cups of tea during the course of the day to keep me going.
This coffee mug has a coaster which can also be used as a mug lid, which is great to keep your beverage warm if you get really involved in your work.

il_570xN.642488046_qhgq

What a great collection of items to celebrate International Internet Day – be sure to stop by and visit the shops and share the love.
