International Internet Day

Contributor post by Alicia from AliciasFindings

Where would we be without the internet? It’s so useful and handy to be a “click away” from whatever you need to accomplish. We want to celebrate this day by asking all of you to tell us about any memorable moments online.

Alicia from AliciasFindings says I love to read and was excited when I found kindle online. I do like the feel and smell of a real book, but its just as much fun to read online. You can find all the same genres you love to read, but no need to go to the library or bookstore (if you don’t want to).

mistycat1234 from carolinagirlz2 said my favorite thing on the internet is the NORAD Santa Tracker…it is so much fun for me, even as an adult. I really feel like I need to go to bed before Santa hits my country.

Richard and Tatiana from DesignstheLimit states we have combined our efforts to combat the single use disposable bottle by purchasing a personalized travel mug with the battle for the internet and joined Etsy in advocating for Net Neutrality with our Net Neutrality Personalized Travel Mugs. Stay hydrated, social justice warriors, we need you now more than ever!

Etsy sellers support the basic principle of net neutrality and have voiced our opinion that the internet should be safeguarded. We encourage policymakers to adopt clear rules that allow any business, including micro-entrepreneurs, to compete on an even playing field online.

From Etsy: “The Internet is built on the principle of openness. For the price of an Internet connection, anyone can spread new ideas or start a business — even spark a new industry. It is this democratic access that makes the Internet so revolutionary. It is what allows Etsy sellers to compete with much bigger and more established brands. It is what allowed Etsy to grow from a tiny company in a Brooklyn apartment to a global platform that hosts over one million sellers worldwide.” Learn more at www.etsy.com/advocacy/net-neutrality

Cindy from Cynhumphrey says for me, the internet is where I found my husband! If it wasn’t for that, I wouldn’t be where I am today and most likely would be known as someone else. Thank goodness though that I got to experience that 20 years ago instead of in today’s time when everyone has to be so careful on the internet!

So, in celebration, let’s toast another 20 years of true love!

zizzybob from zizzybob said I joined several social media sites, back when I started my Etsy shop, in hopes of using them for self promotion. I read an article about Pinterest that said you should post some personal things not just items from your shop, to try to engage your audience. I created a board showing some of my favorite pictures from my family’s annual Disney vacation. One of my favorites is this one of my granddaughter,

This one pin went viral. It ended up on many, many websites in all sorts of languages with tons of likes and comments. Disney world was also thrilled and ended up giving us free passes.

International Internet Day – October 29th

Contributor post by Dawn from DeeDeeDeesigns

International Internet Day

The Internet, defined as a remote connection between two computers, was first achieved on October 29, 1969 and since 2005 October 29 has been celebrated as International Internet Day. It is a day to celebrate the people who helped build the internet, while also giving us a moment to reflect on all the ways that it has changed our lives forever – and, of course, we wouldn’t have our Etsy shops without it!

I asked the Etsy Christmas in July team members if they had an item in their shop related to the Internet? Here’s what they had to say…

For any computer geek that loves the internet too much!

We all spend a lot of time on computers. It is so important to have good ergonomic support and give as much relief and comfort to our wrists and hands. These Wrist Supports can be used every day or for a heat in the microwave or cool in the refrigerator for an added “treat” or extra relief.

Dawn Whitehand from DeeDeeDeesigns says

When I sit at my computer it is usually to work – downloading my listing photos, editing them, creating new listings, marketing my listing on social media and networking with other sellers. This is very time-consuming, and I drink several cups of tea during the course of the day to keep me going.
This coffee mug has a coaster which can also be used as a mug lid, which is great to keep your beverage warm if you get really involved in your work.

What a great collection of items to celebrate International Internet Day – be sure to stop by and visit the shops and share the love.
