Please join us in welcoming Joom Klangsin of Joom, our featured member!

Tell us about yourself.

Hi! My name is Joom Klangsin. I’m an artist and designer who live in San Francisco Bay Area, California with my husband and my dog, Seven.

I graduated with a degree in Bachelor of Fine Arts from Bangkok, Thailand.

In 1996 I studied graphic design at the Academy of Arts University, San Francisco, California.

When did you open your business and what make you decide to do so?

I started my business in 2006. I’ve never thought of myself as a seller. I’m more like a shopper and want to see the products that I like on the market. That is when I decided to start my small business. I think that actually helps me to understand what the shoppers like and helps me to see things from their point of view.

Tell us a bit about your products.

Joom design is a home decor and accessories brand.

I personally create these pouches, bags, pillows, prints and artwork myself. Currently I’m working on my art work and pillow project, finding inspiration in the environment and the world around me. My style is simple, clean, and full of color and unique shapes.

What inspires your work?

I get inspiration from the things around me, and am especially interested in nature, textiles, art, love and architecture. I like to use simple raw materials to create a new design of my own.

What are your future goals for the business this year? What is your dream for this business?

This year, I want to finish updating my own website and be able to connect with my customers directly.

What makes your business stand out from businesses that sell similar products?

All my products are uniquely designed and created by me.
I also care very much about the customer service and always make sure my customers are happy.

Tell us a bit about your work space. Do you have a separate studio?

Part of my living space in my home was converted to my working studio.

What have you learned since opening your business that you wish you had known before hand?

I wish I knew the important of marketing. I wish there were social media back then. It’s a lot easier now.

Any advice for those thinking about selling on Etsy?

I ’ve read some of Etsy seller’s advice. The best advice that I really like.

Think of yourself shopping on a website and think of all the things you’d wish were
in the descriptions and the images, and do that for your shop.

Make your shop looks professional.

This includes having well products, good descriptions, especially in your profile and shop policies.

Maintain a high standard of customer service and respond to inquiries as promptly as possible.

What people see on Etsy is all they likely know of you.

When you’re not working, what do you like to do to unwind and have fun? Do you have any hobbies?

I love cooking, work on my gardening and paint sometimes.

What is your favorite quote?

“Kindness is a language which the deaf can hear and the blind can see.”
-Mark Twain

Geometric

Contributor post by Alicia from AliciasFindings

Geometrics are decorative patterns or designs based on geometric shapes. They can be used in home decor, supplies and so much more.

Here at CIJ we want you to show us all your geometric items. Please tell us about your item, including what geometric shape it is.

Gillian from Gillisflowers says this earring features 2-D and 3-D geometric shapes, two triangles a kite and a cuboid bead to finish it off. Although my jewellery is mainly floral, it all starts with a geometric shape usually a square.

Richard and Tatiana from DesignstheLimit states that math is the universal language of thinking minds and Geometry is its functions. If you see math everywhere you go, you may enjoy this elegant wine bottle stopper and its geometric shape! Our tapered optic crystal wine bottle stopper is a geometric delight. We always get great feedback from this item as the picture does not do it justice at all and we plan on retaking the pictures, but never seem to find the time! The bottle stopper itself is all crystal and we need to add a picture of it without the bottle in the future. An Etsy sellers work is never done…..

#CIJPopUpMarket #4 Shop – Cindy from Cynhumphrey

Cynhumphrey

Cynhumphrey

1. What is the name of your shop and where do you look for inspiration?

My shop is known as Cynhumphrey. I am drawn to colors in nature photographs when it comes to inspiration for me when creating products.

2. How has your shop evolved over time?

When I first started on Etsy, I was solely creating jewelry. I now include repurposed items as well as home and garden decor.

3. What do you love most about your work?

Most of my products are one-of-a-kind items. I love being able to offer something unique to my customers.

4. What motivating music do you listen to? Share your playlist that gets and keeps you going!

I really don’t have motivational music that I listen to when I’m creating my items. However, I am a firm believer in women maximizing their fullest potential and believing they can do anything they put their mind to doing. If you can dream it, you can do it.

5. What book are you reading right now and where is your favorite place to read?

Working outside of the home at a full time job and running an Etsy shop doesn’t give me a lot of time to read. When I do read, it’s usually informative material on how to improve my shop experience.

6. What are your social media sites?

The Twelve Days of Christmas – #CIJParty 2017

Contributor post by Dawn from DeeDeeDeesigns

We have a wide variety of Etsy sellers in our Christmas in July team, and this means we have a great range of handmade and vintage products to choose from for the 12 Days of Christmas.

I asked team members if they have an item in their shop that relates to the 12 days of Christmas? And here we go:

And here are the 12 days of Christmas!

Twelve Drummers Drumming

patontheback from patontheback says

I love Christmas in July because we’re expecting 110° plus, and I can go on a virtual holiday thinking about cool items outside my hot desert!
Twelve drummers drumming- I’ve always been a percussion instrument fan, and this fabric makes me think of not only the twelve days of Christmas, but a little drummer. Happy holidays!

Eleven Pipers Piping

How about these lovely vintage carolers singing the 12 Days of Christmas?

Nine Ladies Dancing

The ninth of Christmas – nine ladies dancing! These colourful dancing charms are great for jewellery design, card making, gift wrapping, bunting and a wide range of craft projects.

KATERINA ILIAKI from OnceUponJewelsCo says

Nine ladies dancing were the nine fruits of the Holy Spirit-Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness, and Self Control. This necklace also symbolizes the joy of love and freedom. Dance is an expression and combination of all of these sentiments.

Susan-Sharon Passmore from MsPDesignsUSA says

On the ninth day of Christmas my true love gave to me– nine ladies dancing. Well, we actually have 13 ladies dancing the ballet on this fun nursery quilt, but who’s counting?

Eight Maids a Milking
Eight maids a milking – need to have some modesty and comfort in these slip shorts worn under their frocks while milking the cows… I love CIJ as it makes so much sense as an Australian Etsy seller to enjoy all the delicious Christmas foods while we are in our winter.. pudding, nom!

Stock Lane Studio from StockLaneStudio says

Well, it’s a bit of a stretch, but here’s my number 8 in the night sky – if you look closely you can see the Milky Way!

Seven Swans a Swimming

This pretty swan has her baby next to her and a child. The cream and gold colors remind me of an elegant Christmas.

Six Geese a Laying

Five Golden Rings

KATERINA ILIAKI from OnceUponJewelsCo says

The five golden rings represents the great love of God in sending a Savior. It is a very powerful day for me as I adore Christmas and Christmas time. It is a unique opportunity to remind ourselves to love each other, to help and respect everything that has life in it.

Five golden rings. 5 glasses, each has with a gold ring at the top.

Four Calling Birds

Emma Kaufmann from StudioEmmaKaufmann says

I love watching cute little robins chattering outside my window and all excited for Christmas against a stunning snowing background. This artwork was done in acrylic inks and is now available as a print to complete a festive look.

I love celebrating Christmas in July…I live in Baltimore where summers are sweltering so having a Christmas in July pool party certainly helps beat the heat!

Three French Hens

I love this Christmas song. I have a wire basket hen to go with the song.
This hen is an egg picking  asket and can be used to display Christams ornaments, flowers, wooden eggs and the like.

Two Turtle Doves
One dove in each ear makes a pair of turtle doves

and a Partridge in a Pear Tree

Linda from LazyYVintage says
On the first day of Christmas My True Love Gave To Me….a partridge in a pear tree!
This is first in the 12 Days of Christmas series for Precious Moments. I love Christmas in July team and event. The team is a fun and motivating way to market our shops while checking out other members’ shops. I love the event as a way to up the ante in marketing during a usually slow period for vintage buying. Always helps in recognition and in sales!
Not exactly a partridge in a pear tree, but how about this “in style” galvanized bucket planter with a vintage inspired pear fruit label.

Carol Braden-Williams from SilverTrove says

This may be a stretch, but it kinda looks like a partridge.
Partridge same family as dove

Welcome January New Team Members

Contributor post by Dawn from DeeDeeDeesigns
Please join us in welcoming our new members for January to our fantastic team! Visit their shop, fave some items, maybe even share some shops/items on your social media channels!!
I recently joined the team so I take this opportunity to introduce myself!

After spending 3 weeks in the Southern Hemisphere (New Zealand) during October/November 2016, I learnt that many European and American Christmas traditions revolve around “our” winter season such as hot drinks, roasts and other cold-weather fare. These drinks/food are not so tempting to drink/eat during a hot Summer Day such as New Zealand during December.

I now fully understand the meaning of “Christmas in July” so that also people living southern hemisphere can enjoy Christmas, during their winter time.
