Doesn’t it feel great to make or find a unique item and list it as OOAK, one of a kind, knowing your shop – exclusively – carries that particular item?
I love to paint OOAK owls and create one of a kind Halloween wreaths! It’s the best part of creativity, letting your imagination and materials flow into something uniquely handcrafted.
Sometimes it’s a vintage item you find – it surely must have been made years ago by a craftsman and is truly one of a kind! Tell us your thoughts about it.
Our OOAK one of a kind item – Owl Jewelry Board
My husband Jerry and I have designed and made unique items for many years. At times we get an idea, sketch it out and he will square up the edges so to speak – and create a marvelous item.
The following owl jewelry board he did on his own! I selected the fabric for the insert only, the rest was his excellent ingenuity and professional craftsman skills.
I’m sure I have quite a few items that are OOAK (even though I forget what the abbreviation stands for most of the time – Ha!) not that they were one of a kind at the time they were manufactured, but over time have become very rare. This piece is because, back in the 80’s, I collected tins that were of red, black and white in color to go with the my kitchen decor.
I had quite a few Hills Bros. and Schilling articles to display.
Over the past 15 years or so I have been selling my pieces to collectors and now this is my final piece that I am selling in my Etsy Shop. Sentimental? Maybe. After all it is my last tin.
One of a kind!
These Peruvian Placemats are Unique. They are handcrafted and hand painted. Each one is different with a mask in the center. I believe even the paper is handcrafted. The colors and geometric designs are fabulous. There are actually 5 but 1 is a bit tattered. A Flea Market Find!!
Definitely OOAK is this caravan bag. When I saw this fabric advertising takeaways my quirky brain immediately thought ‘handbag’ naturally. I just had to add sauce bottles and a hamburger to the serving windows!
One of a kind tourmaline ring handrafted by me in 14k gold. Delicate, marquise shape ring with natural gemstone and tiny heart in the back.
I design and sew each of my items. Almost all are OOAK because I may be working with a small amount of the fabric and also because it is difficult to make another item exactly the same.
One of my favourite expressions is that ‘the fabric talks to me’. I find myself getting side-tracked regularly as I browse my (extensive!) fabric and trim stash. I often sketch a design and write some notes, then slip it into a piece of fabric with the trims so I can walk away and stay focused on the project my sewing table! This small tote bag remains a favourite of mine from my range of OOAK handmade fabric gifts. It is an original design made from gifted and gathered vintage fabrics and trims
Tote Bag Handmade Vintage Cottage Chic Handbag by ArabellaBlossoms
My daughter and I found this milk bottle at an antique store—-I’d never seen a woman archer depicted in a skirt before! The logo is certainly OOAK!
Originally used by the University of Wisconsin Dairy in the early 50s.
I like the image of a healthy woman participating in sports:
I make handmade beaded jewelry and most of my items are One of a Kind although some I can make more depending on the availability of supplies.
I enjoy designing and making unique jewelry!
This bracelet is a cute, fun one for Halloween that I made to go with many Halloween costumes and the prevailing spooky colors in black, orange, green, and purple!
It is accented with a cute orange Carnelian gemstone bead and green Pearl made to look like a Fall pumpkin!
And, if you like the colors it can be worn anytime too!
I sold a similar one last year to a girl who just loved it for the holiday!
Happy Halloween and watch out for ghosts and goblins, LOL!
One of a Kind Artistic Jewelry is a unique specialty of mine. here I have the blue eyed lotus ring:
This ring features an hand enameled human blue eye set in sterling silver. the Lotus flower is cut out of a sheet of sterling silver. it is a really fun piece a real “eye catching” ring…. Ha ha ha…

Our one of a kind personalized plaque will warm the home or office.
We hand make personalized picture frames, plaques and crosses. Vickie handcrafts the work and paints, Nicole designs the graphics and together we are family. We are very proud to make each piece by hand and with love… from our family to yours. Thank you!
I make children’s toys from plastic canvas..each one is unique and made to the customers specifications. this is a two floor gingerbread house that I completely designed myself for Christmas
My pet portrait necklaces i feel are OOAK! And thats because it’s customized to what individual pet owners prefer. I got the idea to make them when I made one with my dog’s portrait. I felt like this is something I could make for a lot of pet owners who want their pets to be immortalized on a pendant! Some of my customers are so clever that they have converted the pendants into refrigerator magnets- clever cookies right? I usually ask for the name of the pet and a little description so that I can customize the background and make it very very personal for the customer and in the process turn the necklace into ONE OF A KIND jewelry that no one else can own!
I love making OOAK items, the more unique and special the item can be the better! I especially love making OOAK textile art dolls with my own designed patterns. I hand print, dye, stamp and draw patterns onto white cotton fabric, add numerous machine sewn and hand embroidered details for added interest and textures. then I use vintage button and metal findings for a final touch!
This OOAK necklace is unique because it is handmade and carved by me in my studio… what makes it extra special is the firing process: a saggar bonfire. This is a random process so that any pieces produced from this firing can never be repeated, so it is truly OOAK.
A saggar bonfire means the pendant is placed in a coffee tin full of organic material, such as seaweed, banana skins, cow dung, pine cones and sawdust. The tin is then placed in a bonfire for 3-4 hours.
It usually centers on being grateful for the many wonderful things in our lives, sort of like a family harvest celebration, enjoying the bounty from the growing season. Along with the thank you’s , the holiday revolves around Food, Family, football and US history (the Pilgrim kind).
It is one of the most travelled holidays of the year in the US, when college students, children, grandchildren, aunts, uncles and grandparents come together for a large dinner featuring turkey and pie.
That’s why I have included this Home Sweet Home printable:
Thanksgiving day for our family has been more like coming together day. All our family would come together ( we are about 20 people) on that day, everyone brings some food like: mashed potatoes, turkey, pumpkin pie, stuffing, salad, drinks, fruits. We pray before food and say our thank you for all we have. Then we would eat, talk, have fun. It’s usually very noisy. Kids running around the house, dogs are having fun also. It’s just one big fun day.
It is tradition in our family to have a centerpiece, such as this turkey planter, that we all spend a few moments of reflection and write what we are thankful for on a piece of paper and put it in the planter.
When it is time to sit down together for Thanksgiving dinner, our family says grace and then we each take one of the pieces of paper and read what each of our family members are thankful for.
We’ve had different centerpieces over the years and different people at the dinner table. It is a wonderful way to involve all those who join us at Thanksgiving and a way to give thanks!
Thanksgiving has great historic value but for me it has become a time to gather with family members and remember how blessed we are and to be thankful for everything.
We have a blended family: my husband has two boys and I have two boys. When they were young he and I met and married and blended the two families together. There were many challenges over the years, and to say that the boys were a handful growing up would be an understatement.
Now when we gather at this time we see these young men as they start their own families, reminisce over the times when they were younger, laugh and enjoy special foods and dishes that we only have once or twice a year. It is a blessing that we had the courage and strength to blend the group into a family and I am so proud of the men they have become!
I have a small family and Thanksgiving for me means having them for a Turkey dinner, of course. Sides of a corn casserole, home-made cranberry sauce from fresh Jersey cranberries, mashed potatoes because my daughter loves them and a few more sides. Dessert is usually my home-made pumpkin pie. Enough food for an army even though I usually only have 6 at the most. It also means getting out my good china which I got in 1972 and still love it. You need a big platter for the turkey, like this vintage one from my shop.
I am from Australia too and am interested in what others have to say about Thanksgiving! I made these place cards / name cards with the idea of families sitting around the dinning table enjoying a yummy meal together as they talk about what they are thankful for.
Thanksgiving is a time to be thankful for family, celebrate each other and all the blessings that God has given us. There is so much to be grateful for in our lives. It is so easy to get busy and not be able to see family members and it is so nice when we are able to get all the family together. We have turkey, ham, sweet potato casserole with marshmallows on top, cranberries, relishes, rolls, jello salad with whip cream, yams and for dessert usually pumpkin pie and pecan pie. The table is set with the best china and my father will say a prayer of thanksgiving before we eat and then in the evening we usually play board games and card games.
Thanksgiving, here in the USA, started because the Pilgrims were truly thankful that they had survived the long hard winter, even though many of them had died. They were thankful for the assistance of the local Native Americans for teaching them how to grow food, and what food was safe to eat. They were just plain thankful. That is how it started, and it became a tradition.
I for one believe we should be thankful every day, not just one day, but it is still fun to get together with family, and friends. Eat a huge meal until you can’t move, then lie on the couch and watch football. Thanksgiving is my husband’s favorite holiday, go figure food and football, lol. It is also the day that my Christmas prep begins. Our tree goes up, and it is decorated, all on Thanksgiving evening. This is a tradition from my childhood, and one I carry on to this day. I am new to wood burning, and I love how the piece below came out. I got this pineapple wood candy dish at the thrift store. I hand draw all my designs onto my wood pieces, and then I burn the picture on. Since I love to paint, this is just a new form of art for me. I hope everyone has an amazing Thanksgiving!
On Thanksgiving day, we are thankful so we handcrafted this plaque that tells our story. The plaque also is a positive statement that we believe is a good thing.
Thanksgiving is one of the most interesting holidays of the year. Growing up in the U.S.A. you love Easter candy and Halloween candy and if you are lucky you can make the candy stretch from one holiday to the other. Christmas and birthdays are for presents, but children do not understand or have a deep appreciation of Thanksgiving until they get older. A couple of years living on campus or in your first apartment and suddenly Thanksgiving has shot up to the top of your list of favorite holidays of the year! Forgetting the history, in modern society the shared cultural experience of Thanksgiving is a profound appreciation to our creator and a genuine thankfulness for the life which we are granted. It is the most humble, most simple, most inclusive, and most endearing holiday our the American way! Invite a stranger, a soldier, or anyone who can’t make it home for the holidays to dine with you!
HAPPY THANKSGIVING FROM DESIGN’S THE LIMIT!
As my shop primarily focuses on sewing patterns, I don’t have much to offer, but I do include here one of my favorites: an overlooked pattern with lots of potential. I think the table runner, fabric leaf bowl, and fabric leaf garland have a ton of decorating potential for the table at Thanksgiving. I can see the garland wending it way down a table covered with the runner, and the bowl full of nuts ready to be shelled. I also see this pattern made up in Christmas fabrics as well, especially a garland made of metallic fabric: gold, copper, silver and bronze.
Can you tell I love decorating for the holidays?
HAPPY THANKSGIVING FROM ETSY CHRISTMAS IN JULY!!
Contributor post by Amy of BeadsAndThreadsbyAmy
The season is upon us! A time for family and friends. A time for caring, sharing, and giving. Why not let the Christmas in July team help you find that special gift that shows just how much you care? Just be careful, or you may wind up in Ken Nesbitt’s predicament!
December I went shopping
for presents for my friends.
I bought a bunch of knickknacks
and a lot of odds and ends.
I picked the kinds of presents
that everyone enjoys:
Computer games and candy
and a wagon-load of toys.
I brought them home and wrapped them.
I placed them near the tree,
but liked them all so much
that I unwrapped them just for me.
Would it be wrong to keep them?
I guess it just depends.
Can someone loan me money
to go shopping for my friends?
