Favorite Holiday Item In Your Shop – #CIJParty 2018

Contributor post by Alicia from AliciasFindings  and Mairi from mairidesign

We all have a favorite item that we have in our shop. It could be our favorite because of the process it took to make it, its color or any other reason.

Here, the team share their favorite Holiday item from their shop and tell us why they like it so much.

michael tarter from BurntEarthHorseHair says

One of my favorite Xmas items is my Luminaria Bags. They are ceramic clay and have holes in them to let the candle light shine through. I crave out different designs on the bags. One of my favorite designs is the Corrales Old Church. I have several sizes available and over 20 different designs.

One of my favourite items is my blue hand dyed cushion cover. It was one of the first items I made using hand dyed fabric that I had done myself.

I love my Harris tweed baubles. They bring the beauty of hand-woven fabric to something purely decorative. Lovely enough to be kept as heirloom pieces.

Hands down this is my favorite item… This ornament has such a sweet story behind how it came to be… I have lived in my home since I was born and one of my neighbors that had been in her home since before I was born asked me to come down to her home to look at some things 3 years ago in the summer of 2015. She then gave me a piece of a sweater that she said was one of her favorites. It was her sweater many years ago when she was much younger. She said she had reused most of it but had this one side left and she wanted to give it to me as she knew I sewed and asked me to make something so that her favorite sweater could live on. The color reminded me of dirty snow. So I made the dirty snowman out of what was left of her special sweater… I gave one to her to put on her tree. I kept one and gave my daughter one and the rest are for sale… so far a total of 6 are living on in Christmas celebrations. I have one more made and enough to make 2 more beyond that. Then all the sweater will be gone. Sad to say that she passed away in 2016 and her granddaughters came to get me and told me I could have what ever I wanted out of her sewing room… one of the things I got was many buttons that were cut off of garments once the garment was done being used. I now am adding 2 of those buttons to each of the remaining snowmen.

My favorite item is this Christmas card featuring Miss Abbie one of our collies on an early morning walk here on the farm just after a fresh snow fall. I was never certain what captured her interest in the trees but I like the feeling and colours of this card.

Entitled Happy Collie Days this one always makes me smile. This image has been featured by The Collie Rescue Network in their calendars and on a note card they use to raise funds.

This “I love cats” handcrafted wooden plaque is my favorite shop item because it declares my love of cats … I consider it to be a customer favorite as well since I have sold several of them to other cat lovers!

I think it’s a great gift idea for the cat lover on a gift list because it’s cute and inexpensive!

Mairi from mairidesign says

These Christmas bauble shaped tree decorations are my favourites because of the gorgeous iridescent glass I used and, also, that others also seem to really like them. I made some for my students and one of them ordered several for her colleagues. Then, my sister and my cousin ordered several each to hang as garlands in their windows. Then, more orders came. It was great! The little beads swing and tinkle in the breeze and add a chic touch to a festive display.

Christmas Snow globes

This was hard! I love Christmas and keep several Christmas items in my shop year ’round, because I think holiday lovers shop whenever the mood hits them. Right now it was between my red-nosed reindeer (I’m also an avid animal lover) and this guy. I guess he won out because he’s a new addition, so I wanted to welcome him.

Christmas Quilted Ornament

I have so many favorite Christmas items in my shop but this one stands out to me especially since I choose to use the ribbon on a dog collar. We all have that pet who is both naughty and nice which makes this Christmas dog collar even more cute, funny and true to their personality.

Naughty or Nice Christmas Dog Collar

Wow, hard to choose just one. Don’t you find that when you make something new, it is almost always the favorite – until the next one! Anyway, here is my favorite. I love winter animal pictures, and my DH love penguins. When I saw these delightful guys, I just had to buy them, and I bought lots! Just couldn’t resist. I knew right away that some would be made into pillows. The rest are waiting for inspiration, and time.

What makes Christmas special? – spoiledfelines1 from SpoiledFelinesArt

1. What makes Christmas special to you?

I think what makes Christmas special for me is being able to spend the holiday with my family. I have a very small family, and when we were young it was easy to get everyone together … now that we’re older it seems to be harder to get everyone together during the year … but we do come together for the holidays, especially at Christmas time!

2. How do you make Christmas as special to others?

Everyone comes over to our home, and mother has always cooked our Christmas dinner … but she’s been ill, for several years, so I’ve taken over cooking Christmas dinner to keep that tradition alive!

3. What are three words that best describe Christmas to you?

Family, Food and Fun!

4. What are you most looking forward to for Christmas 2018?

My niece is expecting her second child around the end of Nov./early Dec. … so I am looking forward to the arrival of the newest family member, and also spending time with her young son (he just made 1 yr. old)!

A Walk In The Park

Contributor Post by Mary of Stock Lane Studio

Parks are the fabric of small towns, big cities and everything in between.  They get us out, keep us active, bring us together and remind us that we’re part of something greater than our remote controls.  Parks come in all shapes, themes and sizes.  The smallest park in the world is only as big as the width of a telephone pole!  Do you know where that is?  Many of us have cherished memories of first bike rides, birthday parties and baseball games, barbecues, picnics, festivals, hikes and long walks with pets and loved ones.

Susan-Sharon Passmore from MsPDesignsUSA says:

Our dog loves to go for walks, and play in the park! If there’s a squirrel, he’ll chase it! If there’s another dog, they’ll play! Throw a ball or a stick? He brings it right back, or not! A walk in the park is the highlight of his day.

When we created this quilt pattern, we got to thinking- What other activities would dogs enjoy at the park, if they had a choice? What if a dog could learn how to roller skate, or take a ride on his bicycle? This whimsical design is the end product of our creative thinking!

Puppy Dog Park Appliqué

Our local park is very close to our home. It’s not unusual to hear crowds of people cheering on the local school sports teams as they play their games or see children play on the various pieces of equipment that were placed there in the park for their enjoyment.

However, parks aren’t just about the children! Our dogs love the park too! It’s their chance to “socialize” and get the latest doggy news! In honor of all the other dogs who love to walk in the park, I’d like to show off my dog sewing pillow panel. Our dogs each have their own pillow they rest on after a long walk in the park!

Nautico Creations from Nauticaocreations  says:

Nothing is better than a walk in the park. It helps ground me after time behind a computer, driving in traffic, etc. The calm of wooded areas and listening to the chirping of the birds is especially nice.

This arrangement with the twig vase reminds me of the woodlands and some flowers that might be growing there. unlike a formal arrangement, this one seems just a bit wild and natural to me.

Purple flowers in Twig Vase

Mairi from mairidesign says:

A walk in the park brings to mind the wild meadow flowers that spring up wherever they like. The resilient poppy is one such flower that loves to display its gorgeous reds in our local park.  These stained glass poppies will cheer up even the dullest of days as they capture the light to share their ruby hues with you.

Przemila K from CanisArtStudio says:

The best memories of my childhood are related to the park. In the park, I started to ride my first bike and the park was a favorite meeting place with my friends. These were wonderful moments spent walking with the dog and friends “of the dog”. This is where my dreams about setters started and today I know that dreams come true. For all lovers of long walks, I have a hand-painted clock with one of my favorite dog breeds – Irish setter. Of course, it’s possible to order a similar clock with your favorite motif.

Wall Clock with Painted Dog

Cristal Hughes from DesignsbyCristal says:

Since I’ve chosen to make walking in the park a daily part of my life for heart health I love seeing the flowers in particular daisies blooming and the birds chirping away.

With the weather in GA being so warm this enjoyment has come even earlier this year but the one thing my memory doesn’t like to recall is the pollen that comes with the blooming flowers. However, this hasn’t stopped me in fact it motivates to me get out more to explore different parks just to see the beautiful flowers and the sound of all God’s creation.

And oh, by the way, the Smallest Park in the World?   That’s Mill Ends Park in Portland, Oregon, USA.  Concerned Portlanders decided to spruce up a lonely old telephone pole hole in the 1970’s and it’s been a fun city feature ever since.

Marjorie Scenna from mscenna says:

When I think of walking in a park I immediately think of birds and flowers and shades of green for grass and trees. This repurposed trinket dish combines a green bird and vintage floral tea cup in shades of pink, both reminiscent of things and colors you might see while walking in a park.

Rita Szollosi  from RitzySelection says:

In the most beautiful parks there is always a fishpond! In this small fishpond, an orphaned fish floats. But do not be sorry little fish, soon the other fish will come!

I love to walk in the park when Spring is blooming. Beautiful flowers and bright colors all over. Here is my newest tag set that reminds me of Spring flowers in the park that are so special to see when you take a walk.

Make My Life Easier

Contributor post by Alicia from AliciasFindings

When you think of getting organized for yourself, your family, your business and your life in general what comes to mind?

Lists, storage containers, bottles, boxes, planners etc.

Judy from JAMsCraftCloset says what a pretty way to organize your papers, magazines, etc., then this gold wire Cottage Chic beaded wall organizer? I love when I find something unique at estate sales and this is one of them.

Cindy from Cynhumphrey said I happen to be a lady who has a lot of rings and stud earrings. The earrings really don’t store well in the homemade earring frame I made so they often would get thrown into a bowl and sit in a muddled mess on my counter.

This unique koi designer shoe solved the problem! Not only can I use it to store rings, it also works for my stud earrings! All I have to do is simply slide the jewelry I want to store in between two of the cushioned rows and I’m organized!

Stock Lane Studio from StockLaneStudio states I love cooking, and I have loads of coffee and flour stained cookbooks. But many of my family recipes are scattered on loose papers and frequently lost or overlooked. My Mother’s beloved handwritten recipe booklet is getting worn and tattered.

Printable recipe papers for a family recipe binder has solved that problem. My sisters and I are gradually transcribing my Mother’s book for future chefs, and we’re adding our own new recipes as well. Since the recipe papers are digital, we can print out at home, but also email recipes to share with family and friends.

Our SLP customers love these printable recipe pages. This black and white version is especially popular because cooks can print out as many as needed but they don’t have to use up a lot of their home computer printer ink in doing so. The papers can be printed out in black and white, or used with standard American letter-sized colored paper.

We have a Deluxe version as well, with many more options, and more designs available in our ~Recipe~ section. SLP even offers an recipe transcription service! Happy baking.

Przemila from CanisArtStudio says I prepared a series of wooden painted boxes with natural themes. Here is a natural wooden box for jewelry with the theme of spring bird and apple blossom. It’s very good also to hold credit cards or other treasures. This is something for those people who like to have a lot of small things and can hide this little mess into a nice, colorful box that will decorate your bedroom or desk.

Christmas Movie Ideas – #CIJParty 2017

Post contributor from Julie at EveryoneLovesGifts0

When it comes to Christmas time everyone loves a good Christmas move that they can share with the family. Below I have added some classic and best Christmas film that are good to watch time and time again and those you may not have seen before.

image7

Home Alone (PG)
I don’t know anyone who does not love a good Home Alone movie. I can not remember how many times I have seen these films but they never get old.

The first Home Alone came out in 1990! It is about an eight year old that get’s in trouble at home while his whole family has gone on holiday. Because of such a big family and the rest to get to the airport in the morning they forgot about him.
Unfortunately he is left home alone to protect his family house from want-to-be burglars.

A Christmas Carol (PG)
Again, a Christmas movie that is a classic.
The re-make was made in 2009, A Christmas Carol is an animated movie from Charles Dickens. A Victorian-era miser takes on a journey of self-redemption. However, with several mysterious Christmas apparitions it is a journey he wont forget.

This Christmas (PG)
A Christmas-time drama that is centered around the Whitfield family’s first holiday together in four years. Do you think the family’s holiday will go without a hitch?

Arthur Christmas (PG)
Santa’s clumsy son Arthur gets put on a mission with St. Nick’s father to give out a present they misplaced to a young girl in less than 2 hours. What could possible happen? A funny film that is great for all the family.

Love the Coopers (PG 13)
The intertwined stories of four generations of Coopers unfold right before the annual family reunion on Christmas Eve.

Treasury Challenge Winner September – pasqueflower

Contributor post by Alicia of AliciasFindings

On Etsy many shop owners curate treasuries. A treasury is a curated shop gallery comprised  of 16 items from any shop.  Most of the time they are done by theme, color or anything you can imagine.

The Christmas in July team has challenges to create treasuries centered on themes of our choosing. We then pick a winner based on views, creativity and the like.

The September winner is pasqueflower who loves sewing, home and family decorations and so much more.

What made you start a shop on Etsy?

The Recession. With a mandatory 30-day unpaid furlough looming on my horizon in February of 2011, I decided to spend that down time setting up an Etsy shop. I love to sew and I love new challenges, and I am SO grateful to have the supplemental income my little Etsy shop provides.

What is your favorite fall thing to do?

When my kids were little, we always enjoyed trips to the pumpkin patch and apple orchards. Now I enjoy taking walks on cool fall days, and enjoying all the beautiful colors of fall foliage.

il_170x135.668871779_176z

What one thing has been the hardest about running your shop?

Photography! I am rarely happy with my listing photos.

How did you overcome the thing in #3?

Although I still have a LOT to learn about photography, I have taken advantage of free resources on Etsy with photo tips. I also took a photography class at our local community college, and I recently invested in a better camera. I’ve learned a lot about editing and cropping to compensate in part for my lackluster photography skills

Do you like Halloween? Do you do anything special for it?

I do like Halloween!! I especially enjoy seeing the little trick-or-treaters come to the door in their cute costumes. I also enjoy making fun things for Halloween to sell at local craft fairs – whimsical stuffed witches, buntings, and finger puppets. I’m also making a BIG batch of finger puppets to hand out at our office trick-or-treat day, when coworkers and students bring their children and grandchildren to work to trick-or-treat.

This shop is filled with lovely fabric goodies and I am sure you will find something you will love!
