Favourite Items You Have Made

Contributor post by Julie from EveryoneLovesGifts0.

Everyone has a favourite item that they have made, you pride yourself over it and customers love it.

We at CIJ love to see pictures and know what Favourite Items You Have Made? Why is it your favourite? Below are some favourite items.

Sherri from ButterflyFeetDigital says: This is a new design, and one of my favorites because I just love the way the little flowers and vase turned out. I used the same image in a birthday card as well but with dots for the background. I’m having fun with new design techniques and this is one example.

Richard and Tatiana’s from DesignstheLimit says: Most of the decanters in our shop are 100% lead-free crystal and safe for storage, but we have one flint glass or lead crystal decanter available. Originally discovered by Englishman George Ravenscroft in 1674, the technique of adding lead oxide improved the appearance of the glass and made it easier to melt. The use of the term lead crystal remains popular for historical and commercial reasons. Lead crystal glassware was formerly used to store and serve drinks, but due to the potential health risks of lead, this has become rare. They are still beautiful works of art to be appreciated for their beauty and we have only one available while supplies last. We specialize in sandcarved wine and spirit decanters and offer a selection of design and font choices accepting custom order requests.

If you are looking for the ultimate gift for the men and women in your life, give a personalized gift that will be treasured and can be put to good use! We have a number of lead-free decanters available and look forward to working with you to build the wet bar of your dreams. Ship direct to your gift recipient with gift wrap and gift cards available!

Lida Pereira from lililapt says: This towel set of three pieces (small, medium and big) is my favourite, although I love all the pieces I embroider and/or crochet.

In my opinion, they are beautiful, the colours are fantastic and the quality of the material is exceptional. They were made WITH lots of LOVE!!!

Bevan Blackshaw from TimberDimensions says: Why is this stool my favourite? Probably because I am a fan of seemingly simplistic design. This stool operates like a finely tuned watch. The engineering involved to make the item work as intended is quite involved. I have, over time, evolved the making process to enable me to offer the item at a reasonable price with a high level of build quality. Soon to be available in three different height. Each change of height requires the reengineering of 4 elements to ensure that the item operates as intended. The devil is in the detail. I love it!!

Stock Lane Studio from StockLaneStudio says: I would have to say that my favorite part of being an Etsy seller is the chance I get to make custom art and signs. I really love helping make an event special. And I take pride in the fact that I work really closely with each customer to get their personalized print or printable just right.

Nature Gifts

Contributor post by Julie from EveryoneLovesGifts0

Spring is nearly upon us followed by the lovely summer months. I love this time of year with the sun shining on our faces, it makes us all happy. But it is also a time to take notice of nature around us, nature can be of trees, flowers or nature animals themselves.

Here at CIJ we want to know what gifts you have that reflect the theme ‘nature’ and tell us a little about your gift.

Dawn Whitehand from DeeDeeDeesigns says: This necklace is made from clay, which is from the Earth, and features two pendants in the shape of leaves. The leaves were smoke fired in a bonfire using tree branches, leaves and various other natural materials, such as pine cones.

So this necklace certainly is of and from nature!

Stock Lane Studio from StockLaneStudio says: No matter how old I am, I’ll always love collecting rocks. The image for this zipper pouch was taken on a rock hunt on the coast of Maine. Perfect vessel for our skipping rocks.

Carola Bartz from CarolaBartz says, For me, the ocean is one of the big forces of nature. I am lucky to live close by the Pacific Ocean and whenever I spend time at the coast I am captivated by its stunning beauty. A walk on the beach shows me all the treasures nature has to offer right here: driftwood, shells, sand dollars, algae, small crabs.

This mixed media painting was inspired by the interestingly shaped piece of driftwood I found at one of our beaches. Everything else evolved around it. I added some shells and a sea star as well. The quote by Kate Chopin was the final touch and fits perfectly.

Corkycrafts from Corkycrafts says, Spring is time for trees to bloom new leaves and flowers.
It’s also a time for enjoying sunshine and warmer temps.

Karen Hafel from timetalentjewels says; What more fun in the springtime than to go fishing down by the lake? I had the privilege when I was growing up to have my very own lake so boy oh boy the stories I can tell of the fish I caught!

Barbara from MermaidsHatBox says; I love the spring, when in my garden the flowers begin to sprout.
My garden is a little bit chaotic. I have hardly a plan and plant where I find place. So it is often a surprise in the spring, where some plants sprout from the soil.

Personalization

Contributor post by Alicia from AliciasFindings

This blog is going to be all about personalized items. Those little touches that make something special.  Of course we would love to know:

A) Why did you start offering personalized items? / What was your inspiration?
B) How do you do it? (pyrography, painting, calligraphy, etc.)
C) What types of items do you sell with the personalized option? / What’s your best seller?

Heather Barber from MooseintheMint says I was making pre-made racks for weddings, but then someone asked if I could made a new baby gift. That customer has become one of my best customers and a good friend, and will often make new suggestions.
I use letter tiles for the names, with small wooden decorations in various shapes that are hand coloured. These decorations are stars, hearts and flowers as well as train shapes.
I also do flat plaques for people who want them as door plaques, rather than these as a shelf decoration
The train design is the most popular – I’ve done these for new babies and other children, but also as Father’s day gift for a Grandad!

il_570xn-804254354_7cl7

Julie Herbert from EveryoneLovesGifts0 said personalised items are personal to each individual who purchases the item, the item has meaning to the person who the item is for and there is great thought that goes into a personalised item. You cannot pick it off a shelf. The item I have featured is a personalised pearl bracelet. The buyer can choose any name they like to go on the bracelet. I have used pearls as well as rhinestones and a Handmade With Love charm. Featured item is my best seller, great for weddings, birthdays or other great occasions. A timeless classic.

Stock Lane Studio from StockLaneStudio states many of my prints and printables can be personalized. I offered customization because it’s an extra step that I knew I could take that would lead to a larger customer base, and it’s a fun part of the craft. I enjoy the interaction I get with all sorts of customer, and we have frequent discussions back and forth to make sure custom work is just right before sending it off.

What I offer: In my print and printable shop I offer custom graphic design and photo signs and occasionally cards. From new parents and new brides to proud parents of high school grads and new businesses needing an ‘open’ sign. I can add names, messages and images to art I already have listened in the shop, or something more specific. The only thing I can’t do is add anything that I haven’t made myself and I don’t have a license for. So sometimes I’m limited by what fonts I have and I try and show the client a similar font. Or I propose a more generic alternative to a name brand theme (like a princess crown instead of a picture of a name brand princess).

I have a number of ways to let the shopper know I customize:
I use keywords in titles and tags (customize, personalize, customization. . . . .); I check of the ‘request a custom order’ button; some listings announce it in the listing photo; I have 2 ‘request customization’ listings, one for prints and one for printables. Those come in handy. Often, a customer sees something they like and contact me about customization. We discuss their ideas and what I can do. I send them a quick sample of what it might look like so they can visualize what I might do. I then direct them to the ‘customize it’ listing so they can purchase that and I’ll get to work on their product. I do this to ensure that the customer is as invested in the product as I am before I spend a lot of time working on a custom product just to find out that they have moved on to someone else. Purchasing this listing also clarifies that my time and skills are important (many long conversations in ‘messages’ about how to make it just right and find out what they client really means), and that’s how I make my living, and the extra time I put into discussions, designing, editing and re-editing is part of it so the price of a custom listing is higher.

il_570xN.1006175058_jiyz.jpg

Dawn Whitehand from DeeDeeDeesigns discusses that most of the creations in my shop are ceramic (which are also able to be personalised), but I also love recycling materials, so some of my jewellery is made from reclaimed items – such as paper.

I have had a range of paper jewellery in my shop for a while and recently introduced personalised – name – necklaces. They are available in two sizes, just let me know your name!
Stay tuned for bracelets and also inspirational beads in the future.

Gift Set Ideas For Holiday Gift Giving

Contributor post by Catherine of DesignsByCnC

During the holiday season it can be difficult to find the perfect gift for that special someone on your Christmas list. There are many times when I simply cannot decide on just one single gift.  With several small gifts combined together, you can give a spectacular gift set.

I love the fact that a gift set can be themed to the interests or hobby of the recipient.  We have a hunter in the family so naturally camouflage comes to mind.  For the hunter, a gift set including camouflage soap and towels.

Extremely popular for the ladies are spa gift sets that often include lotions and bath salts.  It gives her the gift of relaxation after a long stressful day.

My favorite type of gift sets are those that are food themed.  For a morning treat, combine a gourmet coffee blend with a unique handmade mug.  An epicurean delight is a cheese board and tools along with a fancy cheese.

To help you with your holiday gift giving, the Etsy Christmas In July Team offers these gift set ideas:

Suggested by Dawn Whitehand from DeeDeeDeesigns:

This set of four dishes is ideal for holiday gift giving – the dishes are perfect to hold candles to decorate the holiday table or equally suitable for condiments such as mustards, chutneys and dipping sauces.

Then the matching Mikasa Holiday Bells serving bowl and small crystal tray adds beauty and usefulness for your serving needs. Order all three and receive a 25% discount with the coupon code Mikasa25. The crystal trio makes a lovely hostess gift or a gift for your holiday table.

An idea from Julie Herbert at EveryoneLovesGifts0:

Valerie Brown  from FirepanJewellery adds:

My Colors of White pendants and earrings work well as gifts sets (and have happy recipients as fans!). You have the opportunity to choose a color that the recipient will like. These pieces of enamel jewellery are modern in style and unique, which really is appreciated when it comes to gifts!

Suggested by pam colangelo  from PearlsVintagebyPam:

This is a Men’s Suspender and Neck Tie Set! It is very retro. The colors and paisley design make this set unique. Men’s gifts are difficult to find. A man who wears suspenders and a tie that appreciates wearing stylish and daring clothes will love this gift. This is a gift for all aged men. Bright colors create perfect wear for the holidays.

Welcome New Members for September

Contributor post by Dawn from DeeDeeDeesigns
Please join us in welcoming our new members for September to our fantastic team! Visit their shop, fave some items, maybe even share some shops/items on your social media channels!!

I technically joined in August, but as I was away now is my first chance to say hi and introduce myself. I’m Steph a screen printer and mum to one with another on the way in 6 weeks. I design and print homewares that I would love to have in my own home and hope that others will love them as much as I do.
My favourite item in my shop at the moment is this Breton shirt print. I am obsessed with all things stripes, especially stripe tops…we all know they are the unofficial Mum uniform after all!

Hello everyone, I am Julie. A Mum of a very active 8 year old. Unfortunately when my daughter was born I encountered a few issues which resulted in a few operations and unable to have anymore children.
Because of this and unable to work in employment I created EveryoneLovesGifts. I make jewellery from a range of materials but I do love my pearls as they are so priceless.
My featured item is a lovely green pearl bracelet that is perfect for teenagers and adults alike. Due to the greens in the bracelet it makes a perfect gift all year round especially with the sparkle.

I’m Jessica of Art by Jessercat. I specialize in old fashioned spun cotton Christmas ornaments and cake toppers. I also work in clay on occasion. My shop and techniques come from a love of the holidays, art, and necessity. Other than Clara and her Nutcracker (featured in my profile picture) I’d say my favorite item in my shop would have to be Krampus. I love creating his goofy face.

Play It By Ear

Contributor post by Alicia from AliciasFindings

Earrings are such a fun way to dress up any outfit! You can have so many styles-stud, dangle, drop, chandelier, threader and so many more.

Here at Christmas in July we want you to show us one of your earrings and tell us a bit about the type of earring, what makes it special and so on.

Valerie Brown from FirepanJewellery says I make earrings from a variety of materials, but one of my favorites is using enamel to give a pop of color! I do traditional kiln fired enameling, which is using a (very) hot kiln to fuse powdered glass onto metal. One of the fun aspects of this technique, for me, is that you can’t control the process completely. All sorts of wonderful surprises come out of the kiln! These earrings are part of my “Colors of white” line. Of course, white light is made up of many different colors, so there are many to choose from!

il_570xn-547741928_q3xg

Colors of white Enamel earrings

Connie Lee from Bungalow42 said one of my favorite pairs of earrings, purchased years ago before I ever dreamed of making jewelry were made from shells. I found them while on vacation in Mexico on Isla Mujeres, an island off the Yucatán Peninsula coast. It is the memory of these long-lost earrings that inspires my shell earring designs.

One of my initial goals for my jewelry was to work with unique materials. Given the unique nature of the patterns and color variations in shells no two earrings are identical which I think is part of their charm. The shells sway gracefully and make a sweet sound that is so faint only the wearer gets to hear its whisper.

These coral and white shell earrings are a combination of several different shell varieties. Nautilus cone shells in a coral spotted pattern, peachy conical top shells, white natural Nassau shells and small strawberry conch shell rounds create a lovely coral and peachy-white palate.

I hand tie the seashells that I use to make my shell earrings to waxed Irish linen thread in an array of colors. For these earrings I chose a dark rust color to create a contrast to the lighter coral, peach and white colors in the shells. Each shell is spaced expressly to mirror the opposite earring.

il_570xN.774636554_l4s9.jpg

Julie Herbert from EveryoneLovesGiftsO states one of my favourite earrings are made by resin. Each earring I make with resin is different but these have beautiful purple glitter in them for extra sparkle, especially in day light. There are four shapes to choose from, flowers, circles, square and love heart.
Each earring can have a different meaning to the wearer. With the glitter although great for the day they can also be incorporated into night wear.
The other special thing about these earring are you don’t just have to have purple, you can choose from a range of different colored glitters to make it even more personal.

il_570xN.1024433430_chop.jpg

Nancy Duncan from EponasCrystals discusses that she  loves dangle earrings. I guess it’s because my hair is long and I must have something of substance or you can’t see them. These unique earrings from my shop combine two of my favorite colors, turquoise and golden tones. Tiny cathedral windows with a verdigris wash, feather charms (another favorite), and small brass and gemstone beads.

Melissa R from missy69 says I don’t make a ton of earrings, but I have been trying to convince myself to do more. I am a ring, and bracelet kind of girl, but all the ladies know earrings make your outfit. I love dangle earrings, the most. Flirty, fun, and feminine is what I call dangles. This pair was made with neutral colors for Fall outfits. Perfect for professional wear, or a fun night out.

Heather Barber from MooseintheMint states I like to make fun novelty earrings, so they are often a mixture of Lego bricks, games pieces and other bits and pieces.
These are made from Lego plates and vintage buttons to give a slight retro look.

Pam Maggio from PamPawsJewelry says these earrings are in a rose color which is trending this year.

They are made from Rose Quartz and Rhodochrosite semi-precious gemstone beads and all Sterling Silver.

They are fancy so would be great for evenings out, festivals, weddings, or as shower or bridal gifts!

The cute flower ear wires give them a Woodland or Boho touch!

Lizzy and Boo from LizzysBibsandBobs states I adore these beautiful clear rhinestone clip on earrings from the 1950’s. These sparkly little crescents have an Art Deco feel, and would add a bit of vintage bling to any outfit!
