Christmas Paper Stars by Barbara of MermaidsHatbox

What is your Christmas Inspiration?

These Paper Stars are quick to make and you need a minimum of material. The effect is fantastic. I made this tutorial in May and looked for Christmas inspired papers in my stash. If you would love to make these stars for your Christmas decoration, Christmas tree, or very small to embellish your Christmas presents, look for papers at Christmas time. I am sure you find truly beautiful papers.

Materials Used

Paper / Cardstock Paper – not to strong Scissor /Cutter Glue Ruler Clips or Needles

Tutorial Directions

1. You need 12 Stripes of Paper. Cut it in 1 cm x 15 cm Stripes.

2. Wove 6 Stripes together in the middle.

3. The distance between the stripes are about 4- 5 mm.

4. Where the stripes crossed, fix it with glue. Take the same with the other six stripes. Be sure that the glue is dry, before you take the next step.

5. Wire the outside Stripe a half and glue it together with the other 90° outside stripe. Clip it together with a clip or a needle and let it dry very well. Do it also with the other three edges, and also with the second woven piece.

6. Now you have two shells.

7. If all is dry, bring the two shells together.

8. Glue the three stripes together. And clip it with a clip or a needle. Let it dry very well.

9. If all is dry you can cut the tips in shape.

10. Now you need always a needle, to punch a hole for a thread in one tip, to hang the star up in your Christmas tree.

Conclusion

Enjoy!

Chinese Lucky Stars by Mairi of mairidesign

When I was at art school, my friend gave me a jar filled with these lucky stars for Christmas. I thought they were wonderful so she showed me how to make them. Thank you Wing Mun!

What is your Christmas Inspiration?

Perfect for recycling scraps or used wrapping paper, which can be scattered over your dining table at Christmas, or given as a good luck in the New Year gift in little jars. As a relaxing family activity, it is great for calming things down when the festive excitement is high.

Materials Used

wrapping paper, pencil, metal ruler, craft knife, scissors, cutting mat

Tutorial Directions

Chinese Lucky Stars Tutorial Video

1. Measure out and cut the paper into strips 1 cm x 23-35 cm (approximately – shorter for thicker paper, longer for thinner).

2. Make a knot at one end, flatten, and tuck in the excess to make a pentagon shape.

IMG_20180706_182929

3. Wrap the paper strip around itself, following the natural folds and edges, continue until all the strip is used, tuck in the end and trim it if necessary.

4. Using both hands, pinch the points and press in the edges to make a star pillow.

And that’s it!

Conclusion

Now, start saving all those scraps and used bits of paper and create jar loads of lucky stars for your friends and family.

Tutorial: Travel Utensilo – #CIJParty 2017

Contributor post by Michelle of EviesToolEmporium

Tutorial: Travel Utensilo by Barbara of MermaidsHatbox

What is your Christmas Inspiration?

This is a very simple sewing tutorial for a Travel Utensilo. It’s a perfect tutorial for a handmade gift. It is suitable for sewing beginners, and also for children who want to make their first steps at the sewing machine and would like to give something homemade.

Introduction

A truly quickly to sew and super-practical gift is this travel utensilo. It can be folded small and fits in every suitcase and in every travel bag. Whether in a hotel, on a visit or for example in the hospital, your things like jewelery, glasses, climate change, cosmetics etc are stored on their own place.

Materials Used

For three different sized utensilos are required: 3 solid colored fabrics and a patterned fabric, sewing thread, fabric clips or pins, an iron.

Tutorial Directions

1. The patterned fabric is cut: 1x20x20 cm 1x22x22 cm 1x24x24 cm 1. These squares are placed on the right to the right on the solid colored fabrics and cut out. The squares are clip together and sewn together with a seam of approx. 7mm, please let an opening of approx. 4 cm for turning on the other side.

2. At the corners, cut off a small triangle near the edge.

3. Turn the square. The corners nicely work out, which folds quite well with a thicker knitting needle, crochet hook, spoon pin, or similar.

4. Iron the seams, adjust the turning opening to match the overall seam.

5. The turning opening need not be closed further, that happens at a later time.

6. Now begin the Origami folding. The solid-color fabric will be inside the finished utensilo, the patterned is outside. The solid color fabric is below, the patterned fabric above. Now fold the fabric across the diagonal and iron over the pleat. Fold out, turn 90 degrees and fold again to the diagonal, iron. Unfolding this and see a cross along the diagonals.

7.  The solid color fabric is again below. Now fold the corners towards the center. And iron.

8. To mark the ground turn the fabric so that the patterned bottom is now below. Fold the sides towards the middle and iron. When ironing, make sure that the pleats are not flattened again.

9. Now start folding. For this, the corners must be united and fixed with the fabric clips or pins. I always start with one corner, then the next until I have all four corners. Then I correct corner by corner until I have a straight edge down which hits the bottom.

10. Now sew around the upper edge, thereby also closes the turning opening. The utensil is now sewn. The threads can now be sewn or cut off.

11. The sides can now be folded. To get a sharp edge again, iron the whole thing in the folded condition.

Conclusion

If you like, embellish your work with buttons, beads, ribbons or anything you love!
