Let’s Go Galactic

Contributor post by Mairi from mairidesign

Let’s go Galactic! The team is taking us on a journey into space with their celestial and sci-fi inspired beauties. You’re sure to become starry-eyed browsing this gift guide.

Stock Lane Studio from StockLaneStudio says:

Our galactic line of prints and party signs are out of this world! The background design was a labor of love and I really put my heart and soul into the multi layered twinkly sky.

At SLS we love to customize and our personalized night sky prints and printables are a big hit. They are often ordered for nursery decor or baby shower gifts and can include sweet quotes or the new baby’s name. Party planners and parents also love to purchase printable or printed table signs and posters for girl’s and boy’s space-themed birthday parties. We can add the child’s name, age and a big birthday wish.

National Geographic says…”Compared with the billions of other stars in the universe, the sun is unremarkable. But for Earth and the other planets that revolve around it, the sun is a powerful center of attention. It holds the solar system together; pours life-giving light, heat, and energy on Earth; and generates space weather.”

People are drawn to the sun and moon for their decorating purposes. This sun candle holder was a great find and would brighten anyone’s galaxy.

Starry skies were just catching my eyes – tv commercials etc. And of course for many years we have been fans – Star Wars, Battle Star Galactica, Star Trek – all fun stuff. So I decided to make a set of starry skies paper but instead of a full set of 12 x 12 inch papers, I decided to go with a few and make it stationery / journal pages instead.

Let’s Make It Personal

Contributor post by Cindy Humphrey from Cynhumphrey

As special as a gift may be, it becomes even more special when it’s personalized. Personalized gifts show the recipient put some thought into the gift and those types of gifts also suit any occasion.

Our Christmas in July team members were asked to share a link to something in their shop that would qualify as a personalized gift. It could have been something that had a name added or boosted a personal connection to a special person.

Here are some special gift ideas that were shared.

Stock Lane Studio from StockLaneStudio says:

Whether as partners or best friends, true soulmates don’t come around often, but when they do they can last a lifetime. Our custom ‘Sole’ Mate cards are a great way to reach out to your ‘Bestie’. Let SLS make it personal by adding your names and the date when your friendship began. Did you solidify your friendship on the shores of Camp Kawabunga during the summer of 6th grade? We can add that too!

Judy Merashoff from JAMsCraftCloset says:

These little chalkboard buckets can be used as Table Numbers or fill with something special and give as a gift with their name written on it. I found a bunch of these at an Estate sale. At the time I had no idea what to do with them, but I had to have them. Then I thought…wedding or party…chalkboard paint…Voila! I now wish I had more of them. I only have this one set left and would love to make more.

Przemila from CanisArtStudio says:

Geometrics are decorative patterns or designs based on geometric shapes. They can be used in home decor, supplies and so much more.

Here at CIJ we want you to show us all your geometric items. Please tell us about your item, including what geometric shape it is.

Richard and Tatiana from DesignstheLimit states that math is the universal language of thinking minds and Geometry is its functions. If you see math everywhere you go, you may enjoy this elegant wine bottle stopper and its geometric shape! Our tapered optic crystal wine bottle stopper is a geometric delight. We always get great feedback from this item as the picture does not do it justice at all and we plan on retaking the pictures, but never seem to find the time! The bottle stopper itself is all crystal and we need to add a picture of it without the bottle in the future. An Etsy sellers work is never done…..

Sparkle Skulls Card Case

Connie from Bungalow42 says

Anklets are so flattering and flirtatious. This pastel peach chain is a delightful spring color. Add some sparkly freshwater peach pearls, light blue vintage Lucite Moonglow and tiny frosted Aurora Borealis seed beads for beach worthy perfection.

Aurora Borealis is a trade name used to describe a kind of finish that was introduced in the mid-fifties. Named after the spectacular play of the northern lights, this innovation became a success worldwide and started a fashion trend of coating stones in a variety of colors with shimmering effects.

Lucite appeared in many forms, colors and styles in jewelry as early as the 1940s. It is an acrylic resin, and one type of thermoset plastic, Bakelite is another. One of the most popular forms of Lucite, Moonglow pieces look as if lit from within.

It is this quirky combination of materials that makes this a truly unique piece.

Cristal from DesignsbyCristal says

This cute little wristlet is all dressed in her pastel colors of pink and blue. I’ve gotten so many request for anything with cute, adorable pigs and finally found a print I love.

This little beauty in all it’s pastel glory would be the highlight in your little girls eye or anyone who has a love of those colors and pigs. At least with these pigs there are no smells and you can indeed carry them anywhere you go without leaving behind a mess.

Head In The Clouds

Contributor post by Alicia from AlicasFindings

When people say you “have your head in the clouds”, they mean your dreams or goals are so fantastical or impractical as to ever come true.

Here at CIJ we want to know all about any cloud or sky related items you have in your shop.

Richard and Tatiana from DesignstheLimit says as artists, we have our head in the clouds and seek to fly above them.

Tatiana dreams of travelling to every destination we ship a package to or design a custom frame for. Her art is an expression of her deeper desire to experience the world and her art inspires everyones imagination.

As a writer, Richard is a bibliophile and loves to post, message, and talk to customers about our products and services. Keep your imagination in full gear, we can bring your ideas to your doorstep using any canvas or concept you dream up, Making your dreams come to life is why we started our Etsy shop, we can design for any ideas you have in mind.

willowvalleyvintage from WillowValleyVintage said we have an interesting collection of antique stereoview cards in our Shop. These were originally viewed through a stereoscope to produce a 3D image. Today, these are great to display on a shelf as a fun travel prop.

This card features a famous lighthouse in Cuba, showing clouds in a blue sky background:

Valerie Brown from FirepanJewellery states my “head in the clouds” goal is to have people be more comfortable with more color in their lives – starting with colorful jewellery! This brooch is inspired by a traditional motif of a bird. In my mind, the yellow bird is representing joy while flying and singing in a beautiful blue summer sky!

Stock Lane Studio from StockLaneStudio discusses that I love this ‘cloudy’ theme. I’m a space-cadet whose head is always in the clouds. Stock Lane Studio offers great sky blue printable art that gives off nothing but positive vibes. Mrs. A. from 2aEmporium says this little guy represents the innocent child-like dreaming of us all. The “head in the clouds” kind of wishing and hoping. Many of us have sat just as this little boy gazing up at the stars reciting this sweet little rhyme and hoping that our wish would come true.

“Star light, star bright,
First star I see tonight,
I wish I may, I wish I might,
Have this wish I wish tonight.”

Personalization

Contributor post by Alicia from AliciasFindings

This blog is going to be all about personalized items. Those little touches that make something special.  Of course we would love to know:

A) Why did you start offering personalized items? / What was your inspiration?
B) How do you do it? (pyrography, painting, calligraphy, etc.)
C) What types of items do you sell with the personalized option? / What’s your best seller?

Heather Barber from MooseintheMint says I was making pre-made racks for weddings, but then someone asked if I could made a new baby gift. That customer has become one of my best customers and a good friend, and will often make new suggestions.
I use letter tiles for the names, with small wooden decorations in various shapes that are hand coloured. These decorations are stars, hearts and flowers as well as train shapes.
I also do flat plaques for people who want them as door plaques, rather than these as a shelf decoration
The train design is the most popular – I’ve done these for new babies and other children, but also as Father’s day gift for a Grandad!

il_570xn-804254354_7cl7

Julie Herbert from EveryoneLovesGifts0 said personalised items are personal to each individual who purchases the item, the item has meaning to the person who the item is for and there is great thought that goes into a personalised item. You cannot pick it off a shelf. The item I have featured is a personalised pearl bracelet. The buyer can choose any name they like to go on the bracelet. I have used pearls as well as rhinestones and a Handmade With Love charm. Featured item is my best seller, great for weddings, birthdays or other great occasions. A timeless classic.

il_570xN.952851146_nzna.jpg

Stock Lane Studio from StockLaneStudio states many of my prints and printables can be personalized. I offered customization because it’s an extra step that I knew I could take that would lead to a larger customer base, and it’s a fun part of the craft. I enjoy the interaction I get with all sorts of customer, and we have frequent discussions back and forth to make sure custom work is just right before sending it off.

What I offer: In my print and printable shop I offer custom graphic design and photo signs and occasionally cards. From new parents and new brides to proud parents of high school grads and new businesses needing an ‘open’ sign. I can add names, messages and images to art I already have listened in the shop, or something more specific. The only thing I can’t do is add anything that I haven’t made myself and I don’t have a license for. So sometimes I’m limited by what fonts I have and I try and show the client a similar font. Or I propose a more generic alternative to a name brand theme (like a princess crown instead of a picture of a name brand princess).

I have a number of ways to let the shopper know I customize:
I use keywords in titles and tags (customize, personalize, customization. . . . .); I check of the ‘request a custom order’ button; some listings announce it in the listing photo; I have 2 ‘request customization’ listings, one for prints and one for printables. Those come in handy. Often, a customer sees something they like and contact me about customization. We discuss their ideas and what I can do. I send them a quick sample of what it might look like so they can visualize what I might do. I then direct them to the ‘customize it’ listing so they can purchase that and I’ll get to work on their product. I do this to ensure that the customer is as invested in the product as I am before I spend a lot of time working on a custom product just to find out that they have moved on to someone else. Purchasing this listing also clarifies that my time and skills are important (many long conversations in ‘messages’ about how to make it just right and find out what they client really means), and that’s how I make my living, and the extra time I put into discussions, designing, editing and re-editing is part of it so the price of a custom listing is higher.

il_570xN.1006175058_jiyz.jpg

Dawn Whitehand from DeeDeeDeesigns discusses that most of the creations in my shop are ceramic (which are also able to be personalised), but I also love recycling materials, so some of my jewellery is made from reclaimed items – such as paper.

I have had a range of paper jewellery in my shop for a while and recently introduced personalised – name – necklaces. They are available in two sizes, just let me know your name!
Stay tuned for bracelets and also inspirational beads in the future.

For the Holiday Season I buy some gifts, but I also make quite a few of them. I love creating a special piece for my loved ones and friends. In order to make these DIY gifts I need supplies.

Giving Thanks

We’ve been through the mad rush of Black Friday weekend and what a whirlwind it was! But wait a minute… didn’t we just celebrate being thankful for what we already have? Our team got together to share what they are thankful for as well!

Children & Family:

I am thankful for the precious gift of children God has entrusted us with. I am always humbled by the miracle and the beauty of a delicate new life born into this world. ”
~ Rita

I’m thankful for all the special moments I have with family and friends.

Being thankful for the sound of happy healthy children.”

I’m thankful for my my angels (ages 4 and 1) that light up my day and remind me to laugh more, hug more, cuddle more and enjoy the small things.”

ART:

I am thankful for the ability to interact with kids and share the gift of art and science (together when possible). I typically have several pieces in my shop where all or a portion of the sale helps me to buy supplies for these projects.

I am thankful for the fact that there was art in our school when I was a child. I believe that it has made me appreciate art so much more.”

Life, Health, & Home:

I’m thankful I have a warm home to live in as many around the world have no place to live or very inadequate housing.

What says home more than a quilt?? These painted diamonds papers have a quilted feel to them ~ just like home. I love quilts!

I’m thankful that the future comes one day at a time.

The older I get I realize just how important health is… This charm represents health and well being.”

As we go through the crazy hustle and bustle of the fast approaching holidays, let’s not wait for November to come back around to reflect on what we are thankful for.

Stay Thankful!

Frenchie
