Reception Decor

Contributor post by Michelle of EviesToolEmporium

So you’re giving a reception! Wedding? A special event? What have you seen at receptions that knocks your socks off? Our Christmas in July team members shared these special reception items and stories.

Przemila K from CanisArtStudio says:

Wooden heart is useful both as a decoration and a small gift for a wedding or other party. Usually, I add a small wooden heart to every order in my store but my clients ask me to order a special heart with their pet portrait or another own motive, Therefore I have designed a series of wooden painted hearts like this:

Christine from cwagenblass9 says:

Personalized gift tags for your wedding guests that say “Thank You” for being apart of your special day.

Stock Lane Studio from StockLaneStudio says:

This past summer I was at a wedding and a cell phone was ringing during a crucial part of the ceremony. It was the bride’s own mother who had forgotten to turn her phone off. She was so flabbergasted (and probably nervous and embarrassed) she didn’t really turn it off correctly. So a little while later it rang again!!

SLS event signs present an elegant way to get the necessities out of the way during any hush hush occasion. We do offer printed signs as well as our digital, print yourself variety. This comes in handy since once you’ve purchased the digital file, you are able to print off as many as needed in a number of sizes.

Richard and Tatiana from DesignstheLimit says:

One wine decanter to serve them all! Our sand-carved decanters don’t get any bigger! Impress your guests and keep them entertained at the same time. Don’t wine about not finding a unique idea for your reception, visit our shop @Designsthelimit for more ideas.

pam colangelo from PearlsVintagebyPam says:

Weddings are a true blessing. Often weddings take place in a church and are officiated by a pastor. This is a clear glass church figure with stained glass window. The glass church lights up by a switch.

Elisabeth Perez from LizPOriginals says:

I think a very cute way to make shower and wedding favors look special is adding some charms to the gifts! I can do anything and any theme a bride would wish for! Be it zipper pull or just add on to the ribbon the favors are tied with
making wedding favor gifts a memento for years to come!

Fabulous Flowers

Contributor post by Michelle of EviesToolEmporium

Fall is officially here, and it’s the time I plant some of my favorite bulbs so I can get that thrill of colorful flowers in the spring. It reminds me of all the joy planting, growing, viewing and displaying flowers brings to me. It makes me wonder about your flowery favorites. Our Christmas in July team members shared these items and stories.

Judy Merashoff from JAMsCraftCloset says:

I don’t like to plant or grow flowers, but I do love anything that is floral. I believe flowers brighten every day and anything that holds flowers or has flowers on it.

I found several vintage bottles at an estate sale. I kept looking at them and wondered what to do with them. I decided instead of selling them as is, I would paint flowers on them. This is what I came up with.

Richard and Tatiana from DesignstheLimit says:

We pick fresh flowers from our yard throughout the year and use them in our photography for our bridal party and couple’s monogrammed gifts in our shop. We love the addition of the flowers in the images and love including a little part of our home in our work.

DesignstheLimit

willowvalleyvintage from WillowValleyVintage says:

We enjoy finding vintage items like vases or decor with a floral theme. I took the photo of this toothpick holder earlier in the year. The Forget-me-knot flowers grew in our garden.

WillowValleyVintage

Cindy Humphrey from Cynhumphrey says:

I definitely do not have a green thumb when it comes to flowers. However, that doesn’t stop me from enjoying them. I especially love the blooming flowers!

On the other hand, I also love faux flowers but I don’t want them to look like a cheap plastic floral decoration.

Allergies also run in the family so sometimes it’s a challenge to find just the right bouquet for our table.

That’s what inspired this neat item! It’s a combination floral and upcycled item all rolled up into one truly amazing conversation piece! The flower is made from pistachio nut shells! The finished bouquet is perfect for the table (if nobody in the family is allergic to nut trees)! The best part is, it can be custom made to match any decor theme!

Cynhumphrey

Lia Russo from Ghirlandiamo says:

I’m really fond of bulbs, particularly l do love irises. I liked the American Iris Society’s Facebook page, where I can see these wonderful flowers. And this is my homage to them.

Ghirlandiamo

pam colangelo from PearlsVintagebyPam says:

I love flowers! Spring is my best display. I have many perennial flower beds but they are a lot of back breaking work. If only it wasn’t for weeds! These tin canisters are bright and flowery!

PearlsVintagebyPam

Ilda Pereira from lililapt says:

Flowers are one of the favourite motifs I use when I embroider. I love them!

lililapt

Astrid Stenerud Prayag from RedNeedleQuilts says:

I love pansies. We always had pansies on the farm in Norway where I grew up. Every year, at the end of the cold and snowy winter, my late Mom bought seeds to grow for the garden. Among the several sachets with seeds, there was the pansies. I couldn’t wait for the seeds to grow, for the tiny plants to get big and strong enough to be planted in pots outside as well as in some of the flower beds. I love all the color variations the pansies have, so colorful and eye catching.

RedNeedleQuilts

JO from alustrousjewellery says:

Love flowers! I remember picking daisies as a child and making daisy chains, these daisy earrings remind me of that time.

alustrousjewellery

Kristen from KestrelCollection says:

I love fairy flower earrings. I make them in all different colors and styles and they are where most of the color resides on my shop.

KestrelCollection

Connie Lee from Bungalow42 says:

It’s hard to imagine anyone that doesn’t love flowers. Hmmm… maybe those unfortunate folks with allergies. Well here’s a handful of flowers guaranteed to be pollen free!

Vintage lucite teal blue moonglow rounds and light blue Peruvian flowers – so pretty together. The clay fired hand painted flowers vary slightly from one to another adding a unique element to this sweet bracelet. These Peruvian beads have a folk art vibe that is a pleasing contrast to the luminescent vintage lucite moonglow.

Bungalow42

Gillian Haqqani from Gillisflowers says:

I have a shop full of flowers! Here though is a piece made from recycled paper and featuring two roses. Here I’ve used paper from an old copy of Pride and Prejudice but as a custom order you can scan me a page from your favourite book, the sheet music from a special song or even a section of a map showing a favourite place and I can turn into a truly meaningful piece of jewellery.

Gillisflowers

Nancy Duncan from EponasCrystals says:

Roses are my favorite! Especially the fragrant varieties. This is a real rose bud encased in resin.

EponasCrystals

Susan Fowler from SSFDesigns says:

Flowers!!I love flowers and used to be a florist till I retired this year. I usually try to incorporate flowers of some kind in my designs . Here I created a poinsettia pin for the holidays with just a touch of sparkle and holiday magic!

SSFDesigns

Karen Hafel from timetalentjewels says

How about a hand knitted and felted bag with a flower on it? Recently I purchased a book on how to make real flowers other than this one and knitting and felting them has been a real treat. My last purse that I sold was my cover photo of a red purse with pansies. There are lots of flowers to knit and felt, it just takes time and patience.

timetalentjewels

Barbara from MermaidsHatbox says:

No hat without flowers. Flowers determine the style of a hat. Depending on material and design. This hat from jeans fabric with crochet flowers and embroidered with pearls is reminiscent of the 70’s.

MermaidsHatbox

Christine from cwagenblass9 says:

I love making paper cut out flowers for diy creators. Tropical florals are a great way to decorate weddings and showers.

cwagenblass9

Stock Lane Studio from StockLaneStudio says:

I love the idea of digital paper because once you purchase the file, you can keep it on hand and printout as many or few as you like. You don’t having to rush back to the store for more of the same when you run out.

This floral stationery is cheerful with beautiful autumn tones of warm reds and oranges. I captured the background photograph of straw flowers while shopping at a market in Montreal, Canada.

StockLaneStudio

Heather Youngblood from youngbloodMADE says:

A lot of my artwork focuses on flowers. I have recently become enamored with the the language of flowers. I am fascinated with the symbolic meanings attributed to flowers and love the lore of the Victorian age when flowers were purposefully and thoughtfully arranged so as to convey secret messages and nuanced thoughts.

youngbloodMADE

Cerena Levene from CerenaLevene says:

I truly enjoy flowering trees, with the branches being just as extravagant to me as the floral explosions erupting along those limbs. I enjoy the light streaming throughout, showcasing shadowy depths and highlighted blossoms!

CerenaLevene

Przemila K from CanisArtStudio says:

Autumn is the last moment when I can paint flowers by nature. I like the colors of autumn flowers. They create strong accents and add joy when days are cloudy. I sketched pastel by nature. This is a classic still life.

CanisArtStudio

Patricia from TheOldBarnDoor says:

I planted a special garden in the fall of 2016 so that I could show my Canadian pride in the spring of 2017 for Canada’s 150th birthday celebration. This was a lavish display of red and white tulips. I couldn’t help but smile every time I walked past this part of the garden in the spring.

Navy Peony – Pantone Fashion Color For Fall 2017

Contributor post by Michelle of EviesToolEmporium

Color trends are a wonderful way to celebrate the seasons!

According to Pantone one of the top colors for Fall 2017 is Navy Peony.

PANTONE 19-4029 Navy Peony

A mainstay for the season for both palettes, Navy Peony is a dependable and an anchoring shade. Solid and stable, the hue takes some of the load off of black as a go-to neutral.

Laurie Pressman
Vice-President of the Pantone Color Institute

PantoneFashion Color Report Fall 2017

Members of the Etsy Christmas In July Team have been inspired by the color Navy Peony! They have created items in their shops reflecting this inspiration! Here are a few!

Cerena Levene Studio Make Believe from CerenaLevene says:

These luxurious cloth napkins were inspired by my love of natural things around me. I live where huge Loblolly pine cones fall seasonally and make great fire starters for the fireplace, terrific decorations in baskets and fun projects for children during the winter season.

Navy Peony and a rich chocolate brown partners well with the the look of glistening snow- whether it is your white dinner set, milk glass, crystal goblets- or even tin!

Diana from joliefemmebydiana says:

Navy Peony is a classic color perfect when combined with white. This bag is just right for any occasion from a dinner date to a casual wedding! Navy peony is great for all seasons and goes with so many colors as an alternative to black.

joliefemmebydiana

Cristal Hughes from DesignsbyCristal says:

Navy blue is a perfect back drop to display the pink ribbons for Breast Cancer. In this print it’s no wonder they paired navy peony with the pink ribbons because a Breast Cancer survivor or fighter is strong (solid), faithful (dependable), and secure (stable) in this battle.

I have both friends and family whom have battled this illness and I’ve seen how each one was solid, stable, and dependable for their families even though they were in a fight to live!

Stock Lane Studio from StockLaneStudio says:

Navy Peony: A dependable and anchoring shade. That’s a great way to describe what a home means to me. Our little family has seen our fair share of planes, trains, suitcases and hotel rooms, but as long as we are together, we can make any place a home. We offer printed and printable ‘HOME’ art, and SLS is happy to customize the map to show where you’ve made your home.

Sherri from ButterflyFeetDigital says:

I had started work on a new paper pack – I wanted to do something in navy or denim blue and make it look a bit old and worn – so, navy peony seems a perfect color for this set. I love how it contrasts with the beige to give it a classic old denim look.

One of the most coveted colors in the universe is navy. It is fitting that Navy Peony is a featured Pantone color for the Etsy Christmas July Team. Christmas Decor – #CIJParty 2017

Guest Contributor post by Judith from FabriArts
The Christmas season is my favourite time of year to decorate. I usually start on December 1st and when my kids were small, we had a game to identify which new decoration I placed out each day. Combined with Advent calendars where they could add a decoration each day, the excitement built each day until the big events on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

Members of the Etsy Christmas in July team have lots of ideas to help with your holiday decorating. Whether you want handcrafted original items for your tree, your walls, your sofa, shelves or tables, cards, prints or paper goods or vintage finds, the members of the Etsy Christmas in July team have lots for you to choose from. We even have Christmas accessories for your pets! Buy now, and ensure that you’ll have everything ready for that special time of year – no waiting around, hoping that your items will arrive in time!

Here are just a few items available. Visit these Etsy shops to discover more treats in store for your holiday decorating!

These bright, colorful, fun and positive dolls are very similar to small Christmas dwarfs or fairies. Each of them could represent you or a family member! Nice, cute figurines will decorate your Christmas tree and make it unique and cozy! This is especially important if there are children in the house. My family and I have received a lot of positive emotions from the process of working on these dolls, and I hope I can convey the mood to you. The toys are made entirely of natural materials: wood beads, cork, cotton yarn, jute yarn. Those doll faces are decorated using a wood burning tool.

Donna Schindler from TreasuresFromTheLake says:

These beach glass ornaments will brighten up any Christmas tree. I have an indoor, large palm tree that I put them on and it brings back memories of my Family Florida Christmas’s.

Dawn Whitehand from DeeDeeDeesigns says:

These decorations are beautiful one of a kind Christmas ornaments, and as such are a perfect keepsake for family and friends. They are also great memory gifts for teachers.

DeeDeeDeesigns

Elisabeth Perez from LizPOriginals says:

This year I fell in love with charms and then it was just a small step to design Christmas ornaments with them–rich reds and bright greens with creamy pearls and whimsical charms compliment any tree. Use them on your wreath as well or add charm to your gift bags for the holidays!

LizPOriginals

These Christmas stars are all custom made to order.  They are great for children with unusual names, ideal for toddlers who are just starting to recognize their initials, and can have the year stamped on the back (perhaps for a first Christmas). It’s lovely to be able to make matching decorations for a whole family.

spoiledfelines1 from SpoiledFelinesArt says:

I love Christmas decorations, especially handmade ones. The reason that I like “handmade decorations” is because each one is unique … not mass produced … a lot of love and attention to detail goes into making handmade items … and that’s important to me!

SpoiledFelinesArt

Richard and Tatiana from DesignstheLimit says:

Christmas ornaments aren’t the biggest seller in June, but we keep them listed all year long because we Love Christmas! Just when the thoughts of Christmas are so far away, we are thankful for the Etsy CIJ Team bringing Christmas Joy in July (and all year long)!

We engrave our crystal ornaments with any design option we have available, any font in our selection, and accept custom order requests. Christmas ornaments make the best gifts for Baby Showers and Newborns, Newlyweds and Anniversary Gifts, and to Commemorative Any Special Event!

Lia Russo from Ghirlandiamo says:

Every time is possible, I love to craft using natural materials. And I think that so many kinds of nuts and a red bow can very well represent a handmade and unique Christmas decoration!

Carola Bartz from CarolaBartz says:

When I think of Christmas in my childhood I always remember the drives in the evening through the snowy landscape of Germany (my dad was a veterinarian and had to go out to the farms, being it Christmas or not, and I often accompanied him). It was dark, but the car’s headlights would illuminate the snow laden trees at the side of the country roads. Those memories inspired me to make a mini canvas that can be used as an Christmas ornament. I added the moose because the forest is their habitat and it creates a serene atmosphere.

CarolaBartz

Linda from LazyYVintage says:

This Enesco ornament is one of my favorites as it is part of the save the Earth collection and promotes recycling with a elf sitting on top of a recycling bin. At Christmas we do our very best to enjoy the season in a green way by keeping the wrappings to a minimum and making gifts for each other and our love ones.

LazyYVintage

pam colangelo from PearlsVintagebyPam says:

I love Christmas decor. As A child I did not celebrate Christmas nor decorate. I was always a collector. When my daughter was a child I collected music boxes. Sadly most of them broke in storage. I found this Christmas music box at a benefit flea market fair. So I helped others, collected another music box and got an Etsy item to sell.

PearlsVintagebyPam

Lizzy and Boo from LizzysBibsandBobs says:

I have always loved everything Christmas ever since I was a little girl. One of my favourite things are Snowmen – which is funny, since I live in Australia and we celebrate Christmas in the Summer! Over the years I have collected many different Snowmen in many forms, so have decided to share some of my collection with someone else who loves them as much as me! This sweet little fellow would be a wonderful addition to anyone’s Christmas Decor!

LizzysBibsandBobs

willowvalleyvintage from WillowValleyVintage says:

I love finding Christmas items at estate sales! Most of the time they are in fantastic condition and carefully stored. My daughter and I recently found this Sad Elf. He’s not wearing traditional Christmas colors and we thought that made him “unique.”

Marion Walsh from BlueButterflyCrafts says:

A cute snowman to bring Christmas love and cheer in your home. He will bring a smile to everyone’s face for the holidays

Liz from TheLittleEmptyNest says:

This is one of my miniature dollhouse / fairy garden Christmas decor collections featuring a mini stocking, tree skirt and ornaments. Each of my designs are original and handmade by me with the intent of spreading a bit of the joy and happiness that went into their creation!

Jennie Clark from FromBasementToArt says:

Heirloom was my Pfaltzgraff pattern when I married a looong time ago. Finding these holiday candlestick holders was a joy.

FromBasementToArt

Patricia from TheOldBarnDoor says:

I have found that taking images from my antique postcard collection and turning them into decorative pillow covers a wonderful way to combine two of my favorite things. I tend to favor Christmas decor with an old-style feeling as it brings warm memories flooding back.  Nothing quite like a sleigh ride on a frosty day to fill the air with laughter!

TheOldBarnDoor

Judith Messenger from FabriArts says:

Something I always put up at Christmas time are my Advent calendars. Last year, I had 3 of them on the go at the holiday season. I make quilted Advent calendars, which can be used year after year. They all have little pockets that can be filled with treats, toys, messages or small gifts that can be treasured each day in December to count down to Christmas. This modern design is one of my favorites!

FabriArts

Cristal Hughes from DesignsbyCristal says:

I love Christmas anything! My friends call me Cristal Christmas! For me it’s not about the gifts under the tree it’s about what’s on the tree and all the loving festivities that come with the holiday. At my house I have something Christmas related in every room so this got me to thinking why not create some Christmas decor for pets. I’m sure there are some lovers of Christmas out there just like me! If I could afford it I’d let all my Christmas decor stay up all year long.

I think receiving a handmade Christmas card shows that the sender has put a little more care into his card giving. Each card is cutout and hand assembled. Red foil is used on the ornament background.

Valerie from Samanthasunshineshop says:

This photo is of my Christmas Tree decorated with my grandmother’s vintage ornaments. The ornaments were handed down to me. They are from the 1940’s and 1950’s. Being able to decorate my tree with these family ornaments, makes it feel like everyone is still together and brings back great memories of Christmas past. In processing the photo, I added a “vintage feel” to accent the ornaments.

Small Wonders

Post contributor from Julie at EveryoneLovesGifts0

As we are surrounded by great makers who make all wonderful items,
* I was wondering what small items do you make?
* Do you like making small items?
* Do your small items sell well?
* Which is your best selling item?

Przemila K from CanisArtStudio says; “..See how much happiness,
The small things hide.
Let’s enjoy the little things,
Because the rules for bliss is written in them!”
This is the lyrics of my favorite song!

In my shop are popular small oil paintings and custom pet portraits. I love painting them and I have designed a series of miniature painted wall clocks. This is the new in my shop. The dimensions of this clock are just that 6 x 7 inch. This small wall clock can be the decoration of the home or office interior and of course the souvenir of a beautiful moment. This is a very personalized gift!
Also little things are easy to send and shipping is not expensive.

Small Painted Clock

Judith Messenger from FabriArts says; My favorite things to make are quilts, but when cutting out the pieces for a quilt, there are always small pieces of fabric left over. I’ve found the perfect things to make with these smaller pieces are these little purse accessories – business card/credit card wallets and travel tissue covers. The Laurel Burch fabric used in this set is particularly popular.

Printable Thank You Cards

Shelly from ShellysSelectSalvage says; I sell vintage including miniatures. These are really popular as customers use them as office desk decor, windowsill decor, gifts for friends, and a cute something for their vanity.

The most popular vintage miniatures are copper and pretty salt cellars. The copper items sell almost as soon as I list them, though they are hard to find.
My salt cellars are more common, but can be used for more than a salt dish. These can hold rings, small jewelry, or use to put herbs in while cooking.

I like selling miniatures because storing & shipping are so much easier and quicker.

Cristal Hughes from DesignsbyCristal says; This is a cute fishing gear collar designed for a small dog/puppy. Small dogs need to have their accessories as well so creating something in a small size for them was a work of love!

Fishing Mini Dog Collar

Marijean from MariMartiDesigns says; I’ve always been a beading maniac for as long as I can remember! My favorite supplies to work with are beads and textile–namely up cycled sari silk. These elements come together joyfully in some of the small wonders in my shop!

I make (mostly) jewelry and so I spend a lot of time working with tiny beads to create small products that can be worn. Some of my quickest moving “small wonders” are my tassel earrings. They give a tiny bit of festive fringe to your look without overpowering your overall ensemble! Say, “Hello” to your New Favorite Pair of Earrin

Fringe Earrings

Dina StyleKnits from DinaStyleKnits says; My favorite items are knitted scarves, but I like to make small items too. I like to make small beaded brooches for my scarves and shawls. For example, this red brooch with glass beads was sold several times. This is my brooch bestseller. I like this small things, because of they add interesting and special accent to simple clothes.

Red Brooch

Gillian Haqqani from Gillisflowers says; I make origami jewellery and most is flower themed. I very rarely use paper more than 2″ square and for a piece such as this where the flowers measure between 3/8th and 3/4 of an inch with the smallest folded from squares of paper measuring 3/4″. I love folding such small flowers but I usually have to throw at least 3 away for every one that is usable

Vintage Floral Pendant

Donna Schindler from TreasuresFromTheLake says; I sell these wine charms that go around your wine glass stem.
These are great so that you will never lose your glass at a party again. They make great gifts.

Wine Charms

Tatiana Burka from FoxFamilyBoutique says; I make mini busy boards for kids. Size 20 to 30 cm. Now this type of goods I have the best selling.

I definitely love sparkle!! I also love bohemian leather wrap bracelets. But, being the sparkle lover that I am, I just had to make mine shine. I am loving the light blue pastel glass pearls in this bracelet. The shiny silver toned button clasp adds extra sparkle, too. This bracelet is perfect for the Bohemian Princess who wants to shine lol!

Sparkle Skulls Card Case

Connie from Bungalow42 says

Anklets are so flattering and flirtatious. This pastel peach chain is a delightful spring color. Add some sparkly freshwater peach pearls, light blue vintage Lucite Moonglow and tiny frosted Aurora Borealis seed beads for beach worthy perfection.

Aurora Borealis is a trade name used to describe a kind of finish that was introduced in the mid-fifties. Named after the spectacular play of the northern lights, this innovation became a success worldwide and started a fashion trend of coating stones in a variety of colors with shimmering effects.

Lucite appeared in many forms, colors and styles in jewelry as early as the 1940s. It is an acrylic resin, and one type of thermoset plastic, Bakelite is another. One of the most popular forms of Lucite, Moonglow pieces look as if lit from within.

It is this quirky combination of materials that makes this a truly unique piece.

This cute little wristlet is all dressed in her pastel colors of pink and blue. I’ve gotten so many request for anything with cute, adorable pigs and finally found a print I love.

This little beauty in all it’s pastel glory would be the highlight in your little girls eye or anyone who has a love of those colors and pigs. At least with these pigs there are no smells and you can indeed carry them anywhere you go without leaving behind a mess.

Thank you everyone – a very impressive collection of sparkly pastel items.

Our frames are sometimes painted in sparkly glitter paint (that does not rub off, it’s in the paint.) This board is a good example of bright fabric paired with a turquoise glitter frame for that sparkle effect we all love.
