CIJ Etsy Craft Party 2015 – Manly Cupcake CardMount

Contributor post by Alicia of AliciasFindings

Tutorial for Manly Cupcake Card by Jennifer Loftfield of CaffeinatedPapercuts

Hi everyone – Jennifer here from Caffeinated Papercuts with a manly cupcake card. Yes, I just used ‘manly’ and ‘cupcake’ in the same sentence. I don’t know about you, but I’m outnumbered and surrounded by guys around here, making it hard to reach for the glitter and sequins all the time. Heat embossing, on the other hand, is a great way to add some pizzazz without the glitter cooties!

2015-01-28 07.41.19

See – manly! It actually turned out pretty CAS  but still so much fun. The steps are simple ready?

Materials:

Medium Cupcake Swirl stamp

Ice Cream Sprinkles stamp

Dark Chocolate Liquid Pearls

Lawn Fawn Goodie Bag die

Lawn Fawn Large Stitched Rectangle die

Simon Says Stamp Navy Cardstock

Simon Says Stamp Dark Chocolate Cardstock

Hero Arts Cornflower Blue ink

Hero Arts Cop O Joe ink

Hero Arts White Embossing Powder

Ranger Distress Stain – Walnut

Ranger Liquid Platinum Embossing Powder

Spellbinders – S4-124 Nestabilities Classic Scalloped Circles,Large

Directions:

  • Simon Says Stamp Chocolate Brown card-stock for the base, scored to make a standard A2 top folding card. I then stamped it with their Wide Striped background stamp and VersaMark ink to add a bit of geometric interest.
  • Simon Says Stamp Soft Navy card-stock for the front panel, die cut with the Lawn Fawn Stitched Rectangle die.
  • Stamp the Medium Cupcake Swirl and the Ice Cream Sprinkles sentiment stamp in VersaMark ink, then carefully apply your embossing powder. I used the Ranger Liquid Platinum for the cupcake and the Hero Arts White for the sentiment. Heat Away!
  • Mount your front panel to the card base with foam tape and admire your handiwork!

So fun and easy, right?? You could easily make it more feminine just by changing up the colors as well. While I was at it, I decided to make a little gift bag to go with it:

Isn’t it cute? Erm,in a manly way of course…I made the bag using the Lawn Fawn Treat Bag die and some fun cardstock. I then used the same Medium Cupcake Swirl Stamp but this time carefully inked the frosting in HA Cornflower Blue and the wrapper in HA Cup O Joe, then stamped it on some white card-stock. A quick cut with a scalloped circle die, some Ranger Walnut Stain around the edges, and onto the bag it went with more foam tape. I then added some sprinkles with the Dark Chocolate Liquid Pearls. All done!!

Ta-da – a fantastic, manly gift set:

CIJ Etsy Craft Party 2015 – DIY Statement Necklace

Tutorial for DIY Statement Necklace” by Clare of Etsy

Materials:

  • Corrugated paper
  • Ruler
  • Pencil
  • Scissors
  • Paintbrush
  • Glue
  • Cord
  • Optional -markers or spray paint

Before you get started: When it comes to paper beads, the possibilities are truly endless. Whether you choose to create simple, straightforward tube beads or more complex shapes, the bead width will be determined by the base width of the shape; the thickness will depend on the length of the shape.

Create simple tube beads using a rectangle shape:

Or make more complex shapes using different-sized triangles:

Shape-2      Shape-3

You can also experiment with added color and design using spray paint or markers. Tip: Focus your designs on the edges of the shapes you create, as only the outermost edges of the paper will be visible once rolled into a bead.

1

Once you’ve decided on the types of beads you’d like to make, use a ruler to draw the bead’s shape (triangle or rectangle) on the flat side of your corrugated paper. For this demo, I am using a triangle shape that has a 3-inch base and is 12 inches long.

2    3

Use a paintbrush to apply glue to the back (flat side) of your cutout. Be sure to leave about an inch of space unglued at the base of your shape so it doesn’t stick to your pencil in the next step.

4

Starting at the unglued base of your shape, roll the paper around a pencil. Go slowly to make sure that the glue binds the paper as you roll.

5

Optional: Once you finish rolling the paper around the pencil, apply a light coat of glue to the outside of your finished bead. (This will help protect it from the elements and make it stronger.) Leave the bead on the pencil to dry.

6

String your finished bead onto the cord of your choice; use colored or patterned cording to add a little something extra. Continue experimenting with shapes and bead-making until you have a full necklace (or three!).
