#CIJPopUpMarket #2 Shop – Sarah from BellaBoutique23

BellaBoutique23

1. What is the name of your shop and where do you look for inspiration?

The name of my shop is BellaBoutique23. I look for inspiration from customers as I am always trying to listen to what they love and want, sometimes friends will ask me to create something special for them so I am always loving custom orders. I also get inspiration from other artists and crafters from crafting groups.

2. How has your shop evolved over time?

My shop has evolved over time by adding new and fresh ideas to my inventory. I think when I started out I just had scrapbooks and greeting cards but slowing have added more items and also I now do more in the area of weddings which I am loving. I still love making items for celebrating new babies though too!

3. What do you love most about your work?

What I love most about my work is bringing people joy with the items I create for them, being part of special celebrations like the weddings and birth of babies..creating beautiful scrapbooks that showcase their joyful moments or a unique greeting card that is given to a special person to tell them they are loved. I just love being a part of helping someone give someone a lovely handmade item that can be cherished.

4. What motivating music do you listen to? Share your playlist that gets and keeps you going!

I love uplifting music such as Selah, Hillsong, worship music gets me motivated and lifts my spirits. I also enjoy Josh Groban.

5. What book are you reading right now and where is your favorite place to read?

My husband is very supportive and ordered a book for me to read to help me in my business, called Business Boutique. I just started and only on chapter two so don’t have too much to report yet. Another gift was the book “A Dog’s Journey” which I just started as well.

#CIJPopUpMarket #2 Shop – Mrs. A. from 2aEmporium

2aEmporium

1. What is the name of your shop and where do you look for inspiration?

The name of my shop is 2aEmporium. My shop is a blend of vintage and handmade. My inspiration for vintage is just a love of history merged with the excitement of finding useful and pretty things from the past. My inspiration for handmade has to do with usefulness as well. I like to create handmade items that incorporate my love of vintage.

2. How has your shop evolved over time?

That’s a good question. I started out just selling handmade, but found I really enjoyed the hunt for vintage and wanted to share my finds with new homes. Over the past few years, I think I have evolved as a “picker” so my shop has evolved along with me.

3. What do you love most about your work?

I like having my own business. In my case, not only do my husband and I work at this together, but my daughter is a shop contributor, too. It is a lot of fun brainstorming ideas for handmade and hitting the estate sales together.

4. What motivating music do you listen to? Share your playlist that gets and keeps you going!

I don’t necessarily listen to music while I’m working on my shop business. When I do listen to music, it is Praise and Worship music. I like a variety of Christian artists.

5. What book are you reading right now and where is your favorite place to read?

I am reading the Book of Psalms right now. I’m an on-the-go reader. I have it downloaded on my phone, so I can whip out my phone and read as opportunity arises. If I have a long period of time to read, I usually read sitting in my favorite chair.

#CIJPopUpMarket #2 Shop – Jennifer Liepis from MPaleDesigns

MPALEDesigns

1. What is the name of your shop and where do you look for inspiration?

MPALEDesigns (MPALE stands for Military, Patriotic American, Law Enforcement). I look to our law enforcement, our military, and all of the beauty that is America for inspiration. The United States is a wonderful place to live!

2. How has your shop evolved over time?

My shop didn’t start out as a patriotic shop. It started out with the name Violet Valerian and there was a variety of inspirational and funny décor. It was hard in the beginning to find exactly what I wanted to stick with. I have always had respect and love for all of those who help our country and am a Navy veteran myself. Once I found what I truly loved to sell, everything else fit into place.

3. What do you love most about your work?

I love working with customers to get them exactly what they want. I am in constant contact with my customers to make sure that what I am sending off is what they are looking for. I do a lot of custom orders and when someone contacts me to let me know that they received their order and love it, that is as precious as gold to me. Many of my customers tell me who their order is for, so it is wonderful to feel like part of their lives.

4. What motivating music do you listen to? Share your playlist that gets and keeps you going!

I don’t have a specific playlist that I listen to. It really depends on how I am feeling at the moment. I do find that a lot of instrumental Celtic music really gets me into creative mode though.

5. What book are you reading right now and where is your favorite place to read?

I am reading Ask and It Is Given: Learning to Manifest Your Desires by Esther and Jerry Hicks. I love lying down and reading a little before bedtime just to get me into a relaxed state.

#CIJPopUpMarket #2 Shop – DesertDabbler from DesertDabbler

DesertDabbler

1. What is the name of your shop and where do you look for inspiration?

My shop is named DesertDabbler. It’s a perfect name for me — I dabble in lots of things, and I live in the Arizona desert.

Nature is the biggest inspiration for me. I love natural stones and wildlife, especially wolves. Most of the items in my shop reflect nature in some way. Pinterest is my second go-to place for inspiration. The jewelry artists there are amazing.

2. How has your shop evolved over time?

When I first opened I had only necklaces and bracelets that I had strung. Over time I took classes and branched out into other types of jewelry. Now I have riveted leather bracelets, bead embroidery brooches and necklaces, leather wraps, and more. Whatever catches my eye and looks like it would be fun to make and wear.

3. What do you love most about your work?

I love to make beautiful things and learn new skills. I take classes and have a taught a few, too. In the winter I participate in monthly Boutiques where I get to meet and talk to people about jewelry, rocks, and stones. And of course, sell some items, too!

4. What motivating music do you listen to? Share your playlist that gets and keeps you going!

I like all kinds of music, but I tend to listen to audio books when I work. I love a good story! But for CIJ I plan to play Trans-Siberian Orchestra, especially their “Wizards in Winter”. My fave! And Mannheim Steamroller has some great Christmas music, too. They will put me in the mood.

5. What book are you reading right now and where is your favorite place to read?

I love mysteries! Right now I’m reading Ann Cleeves latest book in the Shetland series, “Cold Earth”. I usually read in my bedroom where it’s cool and quiet.

#CIJPopUpMarket #2 Shop – Kristina from GriffinMaille

GriffinMaille

1. What is the name of your shop and where do you look for inspiration?

GriffinMaille is the name of my shop. I look on Pinterest, Google and the Facebook groups I belong to that are all Chainmaille.

2. How has your shop evolved over time?

I first started with a friend back in 2014 and we were going to make a variety of things from leather to beads. She ended up pulling out and I soley took over the shop and decided to focus on just Chainmaille. I changed the name from ChimericSoul to GriffinMaille late last year. Since then I have been slowly getting sales and I just reached my 30 sales mark.

3. What do you love most about your work?

I love that I can make some money while being a stay at home mom of one. I also just enjoy making things that others will get joy out of.

4. What motivating music do you listen to? Share your playlist that gets and keeps you going!

I rarely listen to music while I work, its mostly PPS playing in the background for my little one year old. But I f/when I do listen it’s either country or Katy Perry (I’m not afraid to admit it).

5. What book are you reading right now and where is your favorite place to read?

Again just like music I am currently not reading anything. When I do read it’s mostly books from ether Dean R Koontz or Sue Grafton.

#CIJPopUpMarket #2 2017 – USA Focus: Bungalow42

#CIJPopUpMarket #2 Shop – Connie Lee from Bungalow42

Bungalow42

1. What is the name of your shop and where do you look for inspiration?

The name of my shop is Bungalow42. I believe that inspiration can come from almost anywhere. For example I find myself inspired by the flowers, birds and butterflies that surround our home this spring. I also find inspiration from other diverse sources like music, art, photography, fashion and dream fragments. That said, people have always been a source of inspiration and endless fascination in my work and in my life. My hometown Austin, Texas whose motto is “Keep Austin Weird”, is truly a treasure trove of talented, creative, fun and weird (in a good way) people.

2. How has your shop evolved over time?

The most obvious evolution would have to be the expansion of my inventory. Bungalow42 will have over 200 listings before the end of 2017. Perhaps not as obvious is the evolution of my photography skills. I have subsequently replaced all of my original listing photos so it isn’t really obvious to anyone but me how much they have improved in the last three years. This year I added professional model photos that provide a sense of scale and proportion that is difficult to convey in studio “product only” photos.

3. What do you love most about your work?

The continued joy of creating. I get just as excited today seeing a new design come to fruition as I did after completing my very first piece. My approach to design is more akin to doodles in a journal that somehow miraculously end up as an actual piece of jewelry.

4. What motivating music do you listen to? Share your playlist that gets and keeps you going!

My playlist generally consists of random play in iTunes from our digital library of over 29K songs. My husband and I think of it as our own personal radio station. Our taste in music is diverse and can range from rhythm and blues, to jazz, rock and roll, reggae and singer/songwriters. As I’m writing this piece my studio has been filled with the sounds of Tom Waits, Teresa James, Irma Thomas and The White Stripes.

5. What book are you reading right now and where is your favorite place to read?

At the moment I am between books. I just finished a science fiction book entitled Red Rising by Pierce Brown. More often than not my reading preference tends toward detective/crime novels. I am pretty sure that I inherited my love of reading and this genre in particular from my grandmother. She would go to the library every week and check out several books, mostly detective/crime novels and proceed to consume them voraciously.

Like my grandmother I can and do read almost anywhere. If I can scratch out some reading time I will take it wherever and whenever it comes…
