Jerry and Opal from ApronStringsOwlLady is our next honoree!

1. What made you decide to join the CIJ team and what do you love about the team?

I didn’t know about the CIJ team until this year when one of my other teams, Picking Paradise, ran a CIJ post and I saw this team for the first time.

I love that this team is so upbeat and enthusiastic! It’s great. I decided to join and see what it was all about – I love Christmas!

2. What made you decide to become a CIJ team leader and what do you enjoy most about being a team leader?

I decided to become a leader because it sounded like total fun and an unexpected blessing coming my way!I haven’t been a leader very long – but I’m enjoying learning all about it and having access to the leader realms, and getting to know everyone.

3. What is your style of leadership?

I like to give other’s room to expand, grow, express and be creative. I am not an authoritarian yet can be, but have always loved being around people and seeing all their creativity and learning from them.

4. Tell us about yourself and your shop.

My shop is the Apron Strings Owl Lady Shop. The name was chosen because years ago I ran a brick and mortar store and a in-home party plan craft and floral business with my mom, Lilly – thus, Apron Strings.
We were very successful and it was a lot of fun.

Tammie from Nashba is our next honoree!

1. What made you decide to join the CIJ team and what do you love about the team?

I was invited from another team to join for the sale and thought after July 10th that would be it.

2. What made you decide to become a CIJ team leader and what do you enjoy most about being a team leader?

In the middle of the sale I realized that this was not just a promote your own shop and run kind of team. I decided that I was really enjoying being part of this team and I would be happy to give more.

3. What is your style of leadership?

I prefer a friendly type of leadership as opposed to an authoritarian “do this, do that” style.

4. Tell us about yourself and your shop.

I moved to the US a little over a year ago from the sweet little island paradise called St. Lucia in the Caribbean. I’ve always been good with my hands and creating things so opening up an Etsy shop was a no brainer. My shop is filled with things that are uniquely me. I try my best to create things that I’d want to wear or have for myself. That way my heart is always in it.

Rheta Parziale from VintageEves is our next honoree

1. What made you decide to join the CIJ team and what do you love about the team?

When I first joined Etsy, I began looking for a way to promote my business. I ran across the CIJ team and took a look at their threads. I liked that they were different in that they were promoting each other on other social media sites, not just Etsy.

2. What made you decide to become a CIJ team leader and what do you enjoy most about being a team leader?

I became a team leader because I like helping others. The position allows me to promote others on social media while also helping my own business. I liked that the team understands that I have a lot going on outside of Etsy and can only devote so much time.

3. What is your style of leadership?

I like to help from behind the scenes. I think it is important to be the foundation and let others fly.

4. Tell us about yourself and your shop.

I am a single mom, a special education teacher and I have a love of vintage. I started the shop to earn a little extra income and to basically support my love of buying vintage. Eve is my middle name which is where the name of the shop comes from.

Dawn Whitehand from DeeDeeDeesigns is our next honoree

1. What made you decide to join the CIJ team and what do you love about the team?

I joined the team as I saw a call out for blog writers (I can’t remember where) and joined to become more involved with that aspect of Etsy.

2. What made you decide to become a CIJ team leader and what do you enjoy most about being a team leader?

I became a leader after applying to be a blog writer via Michelle, so became a leader almost straight away. I enjoy interacting with other shop owners and also the other leaders…. it is good to development closer relationships with people even though you have never met them.

3. What is your style of leadership?

I think my style is friendly and easy-going – no pressure. Most people with a shop have ‘other’ jobs, so the last thing they want is pressure which also takes away the enjoyment of Etsy.

4. Tell us about yourself and your shop.

I have been a practising artist for about eighteen years and have exhibited widely, including internationally. I have also written a lot about art and have been published. My exhibition work is mainly sculpture and my Etsy shop is where I sell the tablewares and jewellery which I also enjoy making between exhibitions and other projects.

Sheila and Shannon from BeadyEyedBird are our next honorees

1. What made you decide to join the CIJ team and what do you love about the team?

Because I already shop all year-long for Christmas, one of my favorite holidays, I thought the ‘Christmas in July’ theme sounded really clever! I like working with folks who get ready all year-long, ramping up like crazy as early as July…

2. What made you decide to become a CIJ team leader and what do you enjoy most about being a team leader?

I was invited to be a blog writer by Alicia, and since I do a weekly blog for our shop (BeadyEyedBird on Etsy), I thought it would be both doable and enjoyable!

3. What is your style of leadership?

I retired as a college president in 2012. Folks there teased me about being somewhat conflict averse — which is true — and I’m also a pretty trusting and hands-off leader. That is, until someone fails to do what they committed to do. Then I can become what’s sometimes referred to as a ‘nag’. (Is that a legitimate style of leadership??)

4. Tell us about yourself and your shop.

My daughter Shannon and I started the shop because we’re both passionate about beads, gemstones, artisan jewelry and entrepreneurship.

Susie Lee from GinnyPenny is our next honoree.

1. What made you decide to join the CIJ team and what do you love about the team?

I joined because I knew some of the members and because my Christmas season is busy and I wanted to get some marketing ideas to spread the sales through the rest of the year. I had a lot of fun promoting this past July and have made new friends on Instagram through the team.

2. What made you decide to become a CIJ team leader and what do you enjoy most about being a team leader?

Well I was just asked to join, so I am looking forward to helping where I can and learning from the other leaders.

3. What is your style of leadership?

I think the best in people comes out when they are given creative freedom and positive direction. I am pretty laid back and always do well under leaders that are as well.

4. Tell us about yourself and your shop.

I make plush robots. They are lots of fun and I have great customers. I am also moving into making more patterns. GinnyPenny is my nickname for my daughter, and I named my shop after her. I am married and have two kids, a 3-year-old son and an 11-year-old daughter. We live in Utah. I just recently went from full-time to only working two days a week at my job so I can focus more on my Etsy store. It’s a leap of faith and will be an adventure.
