Christmas In July Leader – Megha from byTheArtBug

1. What is the name of your shop and where do you look for inspiration?

My shop is called “ByTheArtBug”, I get my inspiration from the lovely Nature where there is everything from complex to simple everyday things!

2. How has your shop evolved over time?

When I first started I was more confused and overwhelmed with what I really wanted to make and sell, but overtime I learned to focus on what really works for me in terms of sales so now I focus on that.

3. What do you love most about your work?

That it is a stress buster and keeps me going!

4. What motivating music do you listen to? Share your playlist that gets and keeps you going!

I love to work in a quiet environment! The natural music that I love is the sound of rain, that we hear almost all the time being in a tropical city! I love sitting at my window making something as the droplets hit the ground making a lovely music!

5. What book are you reading right now and where is your favorite place to read?

Since my pregnancy last year I haven’t been doing much of reading other than the baby books! So to be honest right now I am reading “What to Expect: Baby’s First Year”! And I love reading on my window seat.

Tutorial: How To Make A Cactus Pincushion

Contributor post by Michelle of EviesToolEmporium

“Tutorial: How To Make A Cactus Pincushion” by Megha of byTheArtBugc

Make a fun Cactus Pincushion with this easy step by step tutorial.

Materials Used

Felt – For Cactus, Flower, Base (green for cactus and any color you like for the flower)

Floral Scrap Cloth and Ric-rac or lace

Paper Coffee Cup

Cardboard Paper

Synthetic Cotton Filling

Sewing Needle & Thread

Tutorial Directions

Cut the coffee cup to make a mini pot, I left just about an inch, fill in with some pebbles to give some weight.c1

Add glue and cover with a cardboard paper.c2

Cover the base with floral cloth and ric-rac. Use felt to cover the top.c3

Cut 8 shapes like below from green felt.c3

Sew the curved edge using a blanket stitch.c5

Use  6 pieces to make 3 sides, join the sides on the inside nicely.c6

Now for the fourth side first attach and sew the insides and at last do the outside blanket stitch.c7

Fill in with the cotton, stuff nice and tight.

To cover the base sew a square piece.c8

Cut the following pieces to make the flower. c9

Put the smallest piece, then the orange piece and then the petals, gather it together and sew, attach the flower to the top side. Glue the cactus to the base.c10

I also added one additional detail, that is the pebbles which I made by rolling the left over felt pieces from the flower petals and glued them to the base.c11

Staying Organized With Planners

Contributor post by Catherine from DesignsByCnC

The definition of “organized” can often be defined as having one’s affairs in order so as to deal with them efficiently.

As our lives have become increasingly active and more demands are constantly being placed upon us, the use of planners has gained popularity.  In addition to our own work schedules and project deadlines to keep track of, we must also keep track of the activities of our children and spouses.

Styles of planners and systems for staying organized can be as individual and unique as we are.  I asked the members of the Etsy Christmas In July team to share their suggestions for keeping our schedules and activities organized and to feature an organizer or accessory item from their shop that will help us with this endeavor.

From Sherri at ButterflyFeetDigital:

I think printable planners are a good option for staying organized affordably. Some people are satisfied to just make lists, but I find the calendar/planners to be so helpful in keeping track of more than just what I need to do. They are also helpful for things I’ve already done – such as which day I scrubbed the shower so I know when it really needs to be done again! Very simple, but helpful. And of course appointments, whether for a fun lunch with a friend, or a doctor’s appointment.

I started making my own printable calendars and planners before I had even heard of Etsy a few years back when I worked as an administrative assistant. I didn’t start with calendars right away in my shop, but it did eventually occur to me to make them to sell. I enjoy computers, so it’s a natural fit for me.

This chevron design has remained one of the more popular items in my shop, whether in just the monthly calendar, or a full size planner or half-size planner. Pictured here is the letter size, full set planner which includes the 12 page monthly calendar, the weekly planner page, the daily planner page, and the yearly view page. Print all or any that you choose.

2017 Printable Planner Calendar Chevron Style

From Megha Silvano at byTheArtBug:

Printable meal planners are a great way to plan your meals for the week or for the month, you can list your groceries under categories and keep a track of the inventory. They not only keep you organized but will also help you save money and reduce wastage. To save paper you can either frame it or laminate it and simply use a dry erase marker and reuse!

Recipe Cards are also a perfect way to organize and store your favourite recipes! With the card dividers you can easily organise your recipes by categories this makes it so easy to find and use.

This Meal Planner from my shop includes:
1. One Printable Spring Theme Weekly Meal Planner Sheet
2. One Printable Spring Theme Monthly Meal Planner Sheet
3. Recipe Card
4. Recipe Divider
5. Refrigerator Inventory List
6. Pantry Inventory List
7. Kitchen Themed Stickers

Christmas in Tropical Singapore – #CIJParty 2016

Contributor post by Michelle of EviesToolEmporium

“Guest Blog Article: “Christmas in Tropical Singapore” by Megha of byTheArtBug

What is your Christmas Inspiration?

Christmas has always been a Winter time for us whether back in India or in USA. The cold wear, cozy hats and blankets, heater and fireplace, with something hot to drink…all this was a usual thing at Christmas time! But when we moved to Singapore it suddenly struck me, Oh! It is going to be hot during Christmas!! At first it was a little strange and we had no idea how it would be like during the Holiday Season back here in Singapore.

But as you get used to the place where you stay we kept an open mind about it and let me tell you we were really surprised by the Christmas decoration, celebration and activities here in Sunny Singapore!

So much to do and so much to explore that one season is not enough to see it all!

You will see a Christmas tree in every store and mall and even the offices. Each Mall decorated with a different theme along with events like Carol singing, activities for kids and charity events and so on.

It is so much fun here in Lion City, from shopping to cultural and religious events!

Although it is not cold but the weather is quite pleasant much cooler than the other months so you can always layer with a light cardigan to get the wintry feel.

People from all cultures come together to participate in this festive occasion. The decorations begin in early November and last through the New Year.

Let me take you on a ride of “Singapore’s Christmas Spectacular” through these pictures…

–The Famous Orchard Street–

The Famous Orchard Street explodes with Light, stretching about two miles the whole street is dressed up in lights; they even have a pedestrian night when you can walk freely on the street to enjoy the decoration. This Christmas wonderland is a must see.1

–Gardens By The Bay–

The beautiful gardens transform into a lovely Christmas wonderland with unique light displays, indoor decorations and various festivities.2

–Christmas Lights and Trees–
There are light installations and Christmas trees everywhere in the city.3

–Church Services–
There are so many beautiful Churches of various denominations here in Singapore.4

–Decoration in the Malls–
With Carol Singing, extended Hours and different themes and lots of sales and deals there is so much to do and explore!5

–Christmas Bazaars–
You may find some cute treasures here, especially in the handmade markets.6

With so much warmth we did not miss the Cold at all!
