Christmas In July Leader – Sherri from ButterflyFeetDigital

ButterflyFeetDigital

1. What is the name of your shop and where do you look for inspiration?

My shop name is Butterfly Feet Digital. I enjoy paper crafting – card making, scrap booking, etc. – so I enjoy looking through paper crafting magazines and books. But I can find inspiration in unexpected places – for example, I love fabric and I have done a fair amount of sewing over the years – but often when I see a fabric that I love I think, “That would make a great background paper for a greeting card.”

2. How has your shop evolved over time?

Because I love working with paper, learning to create my own papers to use in that hobby was the beginning – my first calendars were solely for my own refrigerator, and greeting cards got mailed out to my own family and friends. I started out making all my items in PDF format. I have learned a lot over the years about digital design in general, and now I usually make items in JPG format, and sometimes PNG if a transparent background is needed.

3. What do you love most about your work?

I enjoy creating computer art, and I love trying out different color combinations. I am self-taught, so there is a lot of trial and error, but it’s so fun to try out a new technique and to see what can be done with all the digital brushes and tools.

4. What motivating music do you listen to? Share your playlist that gets and keeps you going!

I actually usually don’t put on music if I am just at the computer – I am pretty focused on what I’m doing and just don’t think about it. Some days especially when I am doing housework like today, I have on a Christian music station which I love, very soothing.

5. What book are you reading right now and where is your favorite place to read?

I really should read more than I do – I used to read all the time! Right now I am not reading one – however, I am working on writing a novella – again, I’m at my computer!

6. What are your social media sites?

Currently, none. I do have a sadly neglected blog – but it’s not about my Etsy shop.

Spring Supplies

Contributor post by Alicia from AliciasFindings

Supplies are the things that help us in creating what we all create. They are essentially the backbone of our creations. Here at CIJ we want to know all about your Spring Supplies.

Do you have supplies that make you think of spring? Do your supplies come in spring colors? What can you tell us about them? What are they good for? What makes them special and so on?

Lisajoy Sachs from saxdsign says supplies is what I do!! As a gem dealer and jeweler I have noticed a serious trend this year and that is TOURMALINE!!! So far this year, I have sold more Tourmaline than any other gemstone. Here is a really great example of one of the over the top simply gorgeous pair of Watermelon tourmaline Gemstones that can be used in a lovely design. I have many different colors and designs to choose from in my shop, and continue to list more and more items daily. One of the most popular this year is Indicolite Tourmaline which is on of the most rare colors for tourmaline BLUE.

Watermelon Tourmaline Cabochon

Sherri from ButterflyFeetDigital said of course, spring makes me think of flowers! One of the most beautiful things about a beautiful season! This set of digital papers has floral designs as well as dots and stripes. The colors are purple, lavender and mint – perfect for spring bulbs. The set would be good for scrap booking and spring card making.

Purple flower digital scrapbook pack

Annie from DesignedbyAnneliese states that spring is my most favourite time of the year! I love the flowers especially and the warmer weather. I made this paper pack with spring in mind. I included flowers, butterflies and lovely spring themed papers ready to use for craft projects, snail mail, scrapbooking, journaling. I included bright colours which make me think of Spring!

Stock Lane Studio from StockLaneStudio says I love spring pastels, and the art and craft projects that result when parents and kids, grandparents and grandchildren, teachers and students, sit around a table and create! Our hand punched hearts in our supply shop, Stock Lane Paper, have so many uses. Using recycled paper, these colorful hearts have the right amount of pastel with just a touch of glitter to add sparkle to your best project ever.

Judith Messenger from FabriArts said when I think of spring, I think of all the leaves and flowers that start to bloom.

Silken Chenille thread is great for creating those leaves and flowers in thread. It’s got lots of texture, so can really make those flowers stand out from your embroidered piece! Use it for spider web roses, outlining wool applique pieces with straight stitches or for straight stitches on linen or needlepoint canvas.

Agnes Keh from DeStashAttic said spring makes me think of leaves and flowers too.

These very rare vintage reverse carved painted floral sew on beads are perfect for spring! They can be sewed onto fabrics to make unique bags and purses or decorate any sewing projects, but I used them to make lovely jewelry! As they came with front drilled holes on top and button, great as connector beads!

Vintage Plastic Beads

Dawn Whitehand from DeeDeeSupplies said I love Spring – it is the time for regrowth and new warmth after months of dormancy.

These clear flower beads are very ‘Spring’ and are great because they are transparent, so that whatever spring colour you thread through them will be visible! How Springy is that!!

Cards From The Heart

Contributor post by Alicia from AliciasFindings
I know I love to give and receive cards, and not just for holidays and special occasions. My favorite kind of card is one when the person just sends it to show they were thinking about you.

Its a small gesture, but to me the little things tend to mean a lot!

Members of Etsy Christmas In July team share this sentiment!
My cards all start with fabric! I love to sew and embroider, so creating my “Crazy Quilt” cards gives me an opportunity to embroider with some of my extensive thread and ribbon collection on a small project. This embroidery piece was mounted in a card with a heart opening, making it perfect to send to someone you love. Use it for Valentine’s Day, and anniversary, engagement or just to let someone know you are thinking about them!

Annie from DesignedbyAnneliese says:

I enjoyed making this card. Basically it is a pull out card inside its own envelope. I made it in mind for a birthday or gift card but it could be used for so many reasons!

DesignedbyAnneliese

Sherri from ButterflyFeetDigital says:

This is a card making kit which also includes a printable Mother’s Day card. It reminds me of my own Mom because of her love for being out working in the flowers all day.

ButterflyFeetDigital

Patricia from TheOldBarnDoor says:

I use much of my farm life photography to create blank note cards.

I think this image is one of my personal favorites as the girls in the picture go everywhere together. Perfect card to send to a best friend to say hello and let them know you are thinking of them.

Small Wonders

Post contributor from Julie at EveryoneLovesGifts0

As we are surrounded by great makers who make all wonderful items,
* I was wondering what small items do you make?
* Do you like making small items?
* Do your small items sell well?
* Which is your best selling item?

Przemila K from CanisArtStudio says; “..See how much happiness,
The small things hide.
Let’s enjoy the little things,
Because the rules for bliss is written in them!”
This is the lyrics of my favorite song!

In my shop are popular small oil paintings and custom pet portraits. I love painting them and I have designed a series of miniature painted wall clocks. This is the new in my shop. The dimensions of this clock are just that 6 x 7 inch. This small wall clock can be the decoration of the home or office interior and of course the souvenir of a beautiful moment. This is a very personalized gift!
Also little things are easy to send and shipping is not expensive.

Small Painted Clock

Judith Messenger from FabriArts says; My favorite things to make are quilts, but when cutting out the pieces for a quilt, there are always small pieces of fabric left over. I’ve found the perfect things to make with these smaller pieces are these little purse accessories – business card/credit card wallets and travel tissue covers. The Laurel Burch fabric used in this set is particularly popular.

Stock Lane Studio from StockLaneStudio says; Our Etsy Paper and Supply shop, Stock Lane Paper, designs printable mini cards that are just perfect for adding to gift baskets or using as thank you notes for Etsy orders! Many of our printable cards are customizable, so just let us know what you have in mind and we can work with you to create just the right design.

Printable Thank You Cards

Shelly from ShellysSelectSalvage says; I sell vintage including miniatures. These are really popular as customers use them as office desk decor, windowsill decor, gifts for friends, and a cute something for their vanity.

The most popular vintage miniatures are copper and pretty salt cellars. The copper items sell almost as soon as I list them, though they are hard to find.
My salt cellars are more common, but can be used for more than a salt dish. These can hold rings, small jewelry, or use to put herbs in while cooking.

I like selling miniatures because storing & shipping are so much easier and quicker.

Sherri from ButterflyFeetDigital says; This is a business card size printable shop thank you note – to slip in with orders. It’s fairly new, has not sold yet – but I’m hopeful!

Annie from DesignedbyAnneliese says; I have a range of mini envelopes in store. I think they are great to use for the tooth fairy or little love notes! Some have been used for weddings for guests to write messages and others for using in snail mail. I enjoy making them and I find that they are good sellers!

friedasophie from friedasophie says; I love making delicate small unusual pieces like the below piece, which is my current best seller. They are small and simple and and can be worn every day, like a 2nd skin!

Tiny Upside Down Earring

Cristal Hughes from DesignsbyCristal says; This is a cute fishing gear collar designed for a small dog/puppy. Small dogs need to have their accessories as well so creating something in a small size for them was a work of love!

Fishing Mini Dog Collar

Marijean from MariMartiDesigns says; I’ve always been a beading maniac for as long as I can remember! My favorite supplies to work with are beads and textile–namely up cycled sari silk. These elements come together joyfully in some of the small wonders in my shop!

I make (mostly) jewelry and so I spend a lot of time working with tiny beads to create small products that can be worn. Some of my quickest moving “small wonders” are my tassel earrings. They give a tiny bit of festive fringe to your look without overpowering your overall ensemble! Say, “Hello” to your New Favorite Pair of Earrin

Fringe Earrings

Dina StyleKnits from DinaStyleKnits says; My favorite items are knitted scarves, but I like to make small items too. I like to make small beaded brooches for my scarves and shawls. For example, this red brooch with glass beads was sold several times. This is my brooch bestseller. I like this small things, because of they add interesting and special accent to simple clothes.

Red Brooch

Gillian Haqqani from Gillisflowers says; I make origami jewellery and most is flower themed. I very rarely use paper more than 2″ square and for a piece such as this where the flowers measure between 3/8th and 3/4 of an inch with the smallest folded from squares of paper measuring 3/4″. I love folding such small flowers but I usually have to throw at least 3 away for every one that is usable

Vintage Floral Pendant

Donna Schindler from TreasuresFromTheLake says; I sell these wine charms that go around your wine glass stem.
These are great so that you will never lose your glass at a party again. They make great gifts.

Wine Charms

Tatiana Burka from FoxFamilyBoutique says; I make mini busy boards for kids. Size 20 to 30 cm. Now this type of goods I have the best selling.

Thank you to everyone who took part and showed me all your Small Wonders!

Colorful Creations

Contributor post by Alicia from AliciasFindings

Spring is in full swing, which means summer is on its way! No one is in a hurry to skip past the beautiful spring pastels, but neither will anyone complain when it is time to break out the bright summer color scheme either! Colorful creations are appropriate any time of the year, but especially so as we are breaking out the popsicles for kids and the fireworks for 4th of July. Summer is all about colors!

With that in mind, I asked our Christmas in July team for the most colorful creations in their shops. So here are some of the best of the best in terms of colorful Etsy items!

Karen from TimeTalentJewels shared this absolutely stunning crochet wire necklace, fraught with summer colors! I just love the shapes and sizes of these beads, as well. Don’t they remind you of summer fruits or flourishing gardens? PLUS this listing includes both the necklace and an earrings set! Karen says: “What got me started on this particular Wire Crochet Necklace was a very small bead by the name of “”Dyed Jade”. The colors were just beautiful within that tiny bead and what colors popped out were Corals, Yellows, Aqua, and Chartreuse. I had a lot of fun trying to get the exact colors for this necklace and it finally all came together. There are even little yellow butterflies in the necklace which gives me hope that summer is approaching with the warmer weather that I absolutely love.”

(Pro tip: check out the rest of Karen’s shop! It is filled with equally beautiful and colorful pieces of jewelry!)

timetalentjewels

Now here is a piece that everyone who wears sunglasses needs – and who doesn’t wear sunglasses in the sunny summer months?! I just love the bright colors and designs on the fabric, and I envision these being a perfect gift this summer season! Here is what Diana, owner of JolieFemme, says:

“My shop is always filled with colorful items. I love color and fun prints! I chose this fabric because the flowers are so bright against the white background and it has little skulls too. This item is easy to find in your bag and keeps your glasses safe and scratchfree. #colorfulisfun Bright color is great to bring a smile and good for any time of the year! #happycolor”.

joliefemmebydiana

And now, an item that is rather unique for what you might expect on Etsy – but we love unique here! CorkyCrafts offers an array of seeds for flowers so that your garden can flourish this summer. The owner says:

“What is summer without sunflowers? A garden should make you smile, plus it is a great teaching tool with children too. In Texas sunflowers are king during the hot Texas summer months. We enjoy sharing our TX size flowers with our clients. My shop is filled with cork crafts and when I’m saving up corks for projects during the spring and summer we also offer our flower seeds to help spread a wide array of color in flowers to our customers to enjoy gardening to

Corkycrafts

Cindy Humphrey from Cynhumphrey says:

At the time I created this, we were living in our first house we purchased. My husband loves to spend time outdoors in the summer so we built a huge deck on the back of the house and put in a koi pond right on the side of the deck. I love to take objects and turn them into something entirely different so when I came across these designer koi shoes I just had to make a ring or earring stud organizer out of them. They are also perfect for craft show displays!

Cynhumphrey

Any new moms out there? We’ve got you covered with this uber-cute diaper clutch! No longer does changing diapers have to be a dreaded task, because this colorful creation from artsyEVE is there to brighten up the task. Here is what the owners, Evelyn and Lucy, have to say:

“This little diaper clutch is the perfect little bag for taking a diaper, a small wipe and perhaps a pacifier with you–when you don’t want to carry a large diaper bag! Colorful and fun!”

artsyEVE

Georgie from littlecrowdesign says:

When Pantone announced the 2017 colour of the year was ‘Greenery’ it was no surprise to me! Green has always been my favourite colour – it can be bright and cheerful, or serene and calming. This original print features another favourite of mine – succulents! The combination of colour and design makes this pillow cover a special one.

littlecrowdesign

Izabela Gveroska from Gavriila says:

Love this necklace,it is so colorful,I enjoyed making it, I started to make it as a bib necklace, but I ended up as a crochet pendant. It is unique, only one piece, it was so complicated during the process of knitting, so it is impossible to repeat it once again.

Gavriila

Sherri from ButterflyFeetDigital says:

This is a confetti clip art oval frame set. Photography transparent overlay or solid white background are both included in this set. I used my favorite colors to make the confetti sprinkles – starting with purple! Then on to pink. Couldn’t leave out blue. Blue and orange is a favorite combination. I really love pink and green. So many reasons to love this colorful clipart!

ButterflyFeetDigital

Dawn Whitehand from DeeDeeDeesigns says:

This charm bracelet is part of the ‘stripe delight’ range created specifically for the vibrant colours of Spring! The range also has earrings and a necklace available in my shop!

The beads are individually handmade made from colourful paper joined together by hand formed findings.

DeeDeeDeesigns

Victoria Evrard from StarryNightTrees says:

I love mixing lots of different colors together. This is my Celebration tree and I use every bead color I have access to. This is my favorite tree and I have mine out all year and use it as a night light.

StarryNightTrees

Nancy Duncan from EponasCrystals says:

Multi colored beads and gorgeous carved rainbow fluorite pendant depicting the goddess Kwan Yin. The necklace is beaded with turquoise beads, rainbow fluorite beads, purple river stone, turquoise quartz, orange bone beads, pink, blue and turquoise seed beads, and silver plated pewter spacer beads.

EponasCrystals

And last but not least…another stunning necklace! I hesitated to include two pieces of jewelry in the same post, but let’s be honest, we can never have too many necklaces – especially when they are as bright, colorful, and unique as this beauty from Bungalow42. Connie Lee, owner of this shop, shared the backstory behind this piece:

“There is a folk art vibe to these hand painted fish. Their history is a bit of a mystery. The original statement necklace was a vintage piece that belonged to a family member but no one seems to know its origins. Happy to report that all of the fish are in good vintage condition. It is obvious that they were handmade and hand painted with love. This was the first time that I got to deconstruct a vintage piece for new designs. It was big fun. #happycolor #fishjewelry”.

Bungalow42

If these colors didn’t remind you that life should be filled with color and joy, I don’t know what else could! Be sure to share your brightest pieces in the comments below. Let’s spread some color love throughout this Etsy community!

Cleaning House

Contributor Post by Sheila and Shannon of BeadyEyedBird

Have you ever read (or thought you should read) The Life-Changing Habit of Tidying Up? (www.amazon.com/Life-Changing-Magic-Tidying-Decluttering-Organizing/…) it’s great inspiration for decluttering! Whether it’s scrubbing or just reorganizing the piles, we wondered what folks thought about the subject of  Cleaning House. Here’s what our Etsy Christmas In July friends shared!

I have two daughters, both creative souls and both members of the Stock Lane Studio team. One is highly organized and a whiz when it comes to placement and design. Another claims to have a method to her cluttered madness but that remains to be seen. Little by little though, her household clutter is being whittled away. Revealing mounds of dust bunnies that are making her wish she had never tackled the clutter in the first place! We all know someone who needs a sign like this.

My printable calendars are something I use for myself all the time. I have found it really helpful to write it down on the day I do those certain routine chores – because a few days afterward I simply won’t remember when a chore needs to be done again. So, my calendars don’t just have doctor appointments, or call a friend this week. I know from a glance when to clean the shower again, or change the kitty litter! I love the simple usefulness of a calendar I can scribble whatever I need to on!

 Cleaning…Yuck!

I would bet that cleaning and organizing is not at the top of anyone’s to do list. It is a necessary evil.

Here are some fun facts about cleaning…

1. You can burn 100 calories for each hour of cleaning. (I need to lose weight, but this would not be my first choice for doing it.)

2. By simply disinfecting your desk frequently, you can reduce sick days in the office by 30%. (N/A I am retired)

3. Dust particles are comprised of 70% dead skin flakes. (YUCK!!!)

4. Office phones have over 25 000 germs per square inch. (Going to clean my phone right NOW!)

5. For antibacterial cleaner to be effective it must be left on surfaces for 30 to 60 seconds before wiping away. (Thanks, I didn’t know this.)

6. The air quality in a closed space can be up to 500% worse than outdoors. (News to me.)

7. Most offices contain 400 times more bacteria than a toilet seat. (Glad I am retired for sure!)

8. One square metre of carpet can hold approximately 1kg of dirt. (Someone want to convert this for me?)

9. The average woman cleans for 12, 896 hours in her lifetime, while men clean an average of 6, 448 hours. (What’s up with this?)

10. Typical office workers hands come in contact with 10 million bacteria per day. (Again, retired.)

Nothing makes you clean house like the hormones that cause “nesting” in the second trimester of pregnancy! When pregnant with my first, my husband found me in the middle of the night climbing in the pantry to organize all of our party serving ware for the Baptism party we were going to throw four months later!

He also found me organizing (and reorganizing!!) all our food in the pantry! Stockpiling the faves and making donation bags constantly!

This time around, my home studio is getting tons of attention! It’s been VERY fruitful to organize beads and see what I really have in stock and what I need to order (vs just guessing)! The hormones have also inspired me to set up a more productive and consistent photography light box that is always ready to go!

That–and again, hoarding a bunker of our favorite foods!! I think my subconscious is worried about us starving to death when a new baby comes lol!

Here’s a tribute to all those pregnant mommies out there riding the highs and lows of those hormones that make us glow and grow!!!
