Weather Forecast

Contributor post by Cindy Humphrey of Cynhumphrey says:

The winter, spring, summer and fall seasons each have their own weather associated with them. What is your favorite? Do you like waking up to the sunshine? How about playing in the rain? Perhaps you are the type of person who loves a walk in the crisp fall air? Maybe the colder weather in winter is your favorite? Whichever it is, many of our daily life activities are affected by the weather forecast.

In this post we are going to be showing off some wonderful weather related items. I encourage you to check out these beautiful items and learn a little bit about the inspiration in creating them.

Judy Merashoff from Jam’s Craft Closet says:

This vintage resin thermometer was hanging outside the sun room of my first home overlooking the pool area. My pool was not heated, so I needed to know the temperature to be sure the pool water was warm enough to swim. The Florida sun does help in raising the water temperature pretty quickly. Even in Florida, the temperature does drop, especially at night. This unique and lovely thermometer helped me to decide if I was swimming or cleaning. Most of the time I was swimming.

Nancy Duncan from EponasCrystals says:

Let it snow! These are round stud earrings with a sparkly snowflake pattern. Perfect for those holiday parties!

Gonet from Gonet Jewelry Designs says:

Brrrr.  Even though there is ice and snow, you can warm up with the ice princess earrings.

Crystal Quartz Earrings

Connie Lee from Bungalow42 says:

Let the sunshine in. One look at Bungalow42 and it’s pretty obvious that I am partial to sunshine.

This fondness for sunny days was most likely instilled from childhood. As a girl growing up in Texas, I only saw snow once in my childhood. There was barely enough slush to cobble together a miniature snowman.

Most of my childhood memories are bathed in sunlight; beach days at Galveston Bay and more than one Christmas day attired in shorts.

My shell earrings are an ode to those fond childhood memories of days spent walking sunbathed beaches collecting seashells.

Barbara from MermaidsHatbox says:

Let it snow.

Defy the rainy and snowy days with a lucky colored hat. The hat is made of coated cotton with an extra width brim, to protect again the wet and windy conditions.

Stock Lane Studio from Stock Lane Studio says:

A low winter sun casts shadows on an old red dog house buried in deep winter snow.

What I love is a year full of all four seasons. I just love what every season brings to the outdoors. Being part Akita and mostly German Shepherd, my dog is not a big fan of the rain or the heat, but he LOVES the snow. The minute he steps outside he tries to bury his entire body in the snow. He is a great snowshoeing companion. We bought him a brand new fancy modern Igloo dog house for his back yard spread, but I rarely see him set paw in it. His preferred abode is this old crumbly red dog house. Sitting perched up on a hill, he is well protected and can survey the land and thinks he’s king of the county.

Przemila K from CanisArtStudio says:

What fascinates me in the phenomena of weather is light. Every region of the world and every country on earth has its own unique light. This is related to the unique conditions of this place on earth. I live in central Europe and gray misty mornings are often here. I like a fog. My friend, who moved to Australia, says he had a big problem to adapt to the strong sunlight in that country and he misses that gray.

For me, this is the experience that is associated with spring and autumn and the moments spent in the wild nature. Fog is also the subject of many works of art. I introduced wild birds in the scenery of a forest lake covered with autumn fog. This is a pastel drawing and this technique allows me to show many shades of colors and create a subtle mood.

Cristal Hughes from DesignsbyCristal says:

Let the fireworks began!

This dog bandana reminds me of the summer when we celebrate 4th of July to be exact! I absolutely love when it’s the perfect weather to actually wear flip flops and not get sick.  The colors of red, white and blue on the flip flops represent the 4th of July a summer holiday very well.

Items Of The Week: Let The Sunshine In

Fabulous Flowers

Contributor post by Michelle of EviesToolEmporium

Fall is officially here, and it’s the time I plant some of my favorite bulbs so I can get that thrill of colorful flowers in the spring. It reminds me of all the joy planting, growing, viewing and displaying flowers brings to me. It makes me wonder about your flowery favorites. Our Christmas in July team members shared these items and stories.

Judy Merashoff from JAMsCraftCloset says:

I don’t like to plant or grow flowers, but I do love anything that is floral. I believe flowers brighten every day and anything that holds flowers or has flowers on it.

I found several vintage bottles at an estate sale. I kept looking at them and wondered what to do with them. I decided instead of selling them as is, I would paint flowers on them. This is what I came up with.

Richard and Tatiana from DesignstheLimit says:

We pick fresh flowers from our yard throughout the year and use them in our photography for our bridal party and couple’s monogrammed gifts in our shop. We love the addition of the flowers in the images and love including a little part of our home in our work.

willowvalleyvintage from WillowValleyVintage says:

We enjoy finding vintage items like vases or decor with a floral theme. I took the photo of this toothpick holder earlier in the year. The Forget-me-knot flowers grew in our garden.

Cindy Humphrey from Cynhumphrey says:

I definitely do not have a green thumb when it comes to flowers. However, that doesn’t stop me from enjoying them. I especially love the blooming flowers!

On the other hand, I also love faux flowers but I don’t want them to look like a cheap plastic floral decoration.

Allergies also run in the family so sometimes it’s a challenge to find just the right bouquet for our table.

That’s what inspired this neat item! It’s a combination floral and upcycled item all rolled up into one truly amazing conversation piece! The flower is made from pistachio nut shells! The finished bouquet is perfect for the table (if nobody in the family is allergic to nut trees)! The best part is, it can be custom made to match any decor theme!

Lia Russo from Ghirlandiamo says:

I’m really fond of bulbs, particularly l do love irises. I liked the American Iris Society’s Facebook page, where I can see these wonderful flowers. And this is my homage to them.

pam colangelo from PearlsVintagebyPam says:

I love flowers! Spring is my best display. I have many perennial flower beds but they are a lot of back breaking work. If only it wasn’t for weeds! These tin canisters are bright and flowery!

Ilda Pereira from lililapt says:

Flowers are one of the favourite motifs I use when I embroider. I love them!

Astrid Stenerud Prayag from RedNeedleQuilts says:

I love pansies. We always had pansies on the farm in Norway where I grew up. Every year, at the end of the cold and snowy winter, my late Mom bought seeds to grow for the garden. Among the several sachets with seeds, there was the pansies. I couldn’t wait for the seeds to grow, for the tiny plants to get big and strong enough to be planted in pots outside as well as in some of the flower beds. I love all the color variations the pansies have, so colorful and eye catching.

JO from alustrousjewellery says:

Love flowers! I remember picking daisies as a child and making daisy chains, these daisy earrings remind me of that time.

Kristen from KestrelCollection says:

I love fairy flower earrings. I make them in all different colors and styles and they are where most of the color resides on my shop.

Connie Lee from Bungalow42 says:

It’s hard to imagine anyone that doesn’t love flowers. Hmmm… maybe those unfortunate folks with allergies. Well here’s a handful of flowers guaranteed to be pollen free!

Vintage lucite teal blue moonglow rounds and light blue Peruvian flowers – so pretty together. The clay fired hand painted flowers vary slightly from one to another adding a unique element to this sweet bracelet. These Peruvian beads have a folk art vibe that is a pleasing contrast to the luminescent vintage lucite moonglow.

Gillian Haqqani from Gillisflowers says:

I have a shop full of flowers! Here though is a piece made from recycled paper and featuring two roses. Here I’ve used paper from an old copy of Pride and Prejudice but as a custom order you can scan me a page from your favourite book, the sheet music from a special song or even a section of a map showing a favourite place and I can turn into a truly meaningful piece of jewellery.

Nancy Duncan from EponasCrystals says:

Roses are my favorite! Especially the fragrant varieties. This is a real rose bud encased in resin.

Susan Fowler from SSFDesigns says:

Flowers!!I love flowers and used to be a florist till I retired this year. I usually try to incorporate flowers of some kind in my designs . Here I created a poinsettia pin for the holidays with just a touch of sparkle and holiday magic!

Karen Hafel from timetalentjewels says

How about a hand knitted and felted bag with a flower on it? Recently I purchased a book on how to make real flowers other than this one and knitting and felting them has been a real treat. My last purse that I sold was my cover photo of a red purse with pansies. There are lots of flowers to knit and felt, it just takes time and patience.

Barbara from MermaidsHatbox says:

No hat without flowers. Flowers determine the style of a hat. Depending on material and design. This hat from jeans fabric with crochet flowers and embroidered with pearls is reminiscent of the 70’s.

Christine from cwagenblass9 says:

I love making paper cut out flowers for diy creators. Tropical florals are a great way to decorate weddings and showers.

Stock Lane Studio from StockLaneStudio says:

I love the idea of digital paper because once you purchase the file, you can keep it on hand and printout as many or few as you like. You don’t having to rush back to the store for more of the same when you run out.

This floral stationery is cheerful with beautiful autumn tones of warm reds and oranges. I captured the background photograph of straw flowers while shopping at a market in Montreal, Canada.

Heather Youngblood from youngbloodMADE says:

A lot of my artwork focuses on flowers. I have recently become enamored with the the language of flowers. I am fascinated with the symbolic meanings attributed to flowers and love the lore of the Victorian age when flowers were purposefully and thoughtfully arranged so as to convey secret messages and nuanced thoughts.

Cerena Levene from CerenaLevene says:

I truly enjoy flowering trees, with the branches being just as extravagant to me as the floral explosions erupting along those limbs. I enjoy the light streaming throughout, showcasing shadowy depths and highlighted blossoms!

Przemila K from CanisArtStudio says:

Autumn is the last moment when I can paint flowers by nature. I like the colors of autumn flowers. They create strong accents and add joy when days are cloudy. I sketched pastel by nature. This is a classic still life.

Patricia from TheOldBarnDoor says:

I planted a special garden in the fall of 2016 so that I could show my Canadian pride in the spring of 2017 for Canada’s 150th birthday celebration. This was a lavish display of red and white tulips. I couldn’t help but smile every time I walked past this part of the garden in the spring.

2017 Holiday Trends On Etsy

Contributor post by Michelle of EviesToolEmporium

I am fascinated by trends. Are you? There are weather trends, work place trends, business trends, job trends, food trends, real estate trends, hair trends, fashion trends color trends and so on.

The definition of a trend is a general direction in which something is developing or changing. In college I took several classes on trends. I remember distinctly studying pre peak, peak, and post peak timelines. I find trends intriguing. They pique my curiosity.

Trends unite us. Give us a common ground. A connecting point.

This article is inspired by the 2017 Holiday Merchandising Guide article on the Etsy blog.

2017 Holiday Trends On Etsy are: All The Greetings, Greenery, Modern Farmhouse, A Fragrant Season, Pawsitively Great, Gingerbread Everything, Win The Gift Exchange, Naughty Is The New Nice, Just For Them, and Moody Hues (Nordic Snowfall and Deep Jewels).

All The Greetings

Patricia from TheOldBarnDoor says:

I actually have a Merry Merry Everything Christmas Card featuring a rather dashing gargoyle.

Mairi from mairidesign says:

I created the above design after I had been using beads, made here in the Czech Republic, with my glass jewellery and knew that they would enhance a stylised evergreen tree. I had sketched several Christmas themed ornaments in this simple, swish-curve style and chose the perfect green and iridescent glass for my final design. Topping it off with a glass crystal is, simply, the cherry on the cake – or rather the diamond on the tree.

A Fragrant Season

Tanya from socksandmittens says:

I wrote this Holiday potpourri Ball DIY post on my blog a while ago and it fits the 2017 holiday trend theme “A Fragrant Season”! It is a very easy and enjoyable project.

Pawsitively Great

Nicole Bridge from MamasHookin says:

Your puppy’s on the nice list! (Was there ever any doubt?) Make sure Santa Paws has someplace to leave the treats and toys on the big day for your furry friend. This Christmas stocking was made just for dogs (although, dog lovers can also enjoy it)!

Gingerbread Everything

Lia Russo from Ghirlandiamo says:

For the holidays l created two small wreaths dedicated to children, because they are decorated with clay family members (crafted by me), shaped as ginger bread. But not only for children: l thought this decor could also be a fun way to announce a new baby is arriving. I have two of these decors: with one and two kids. I hope this item will work also in this way, not only as Christmas decor.

Win The Gift Exchange

Emily Tan from QuirkyEleganceEm says:

A bead embroidered seashell pin is the last thing anyone would expect to find in a gift exchange, and in a very good way at that! Perfect for someone who really wishes it were summer and can’t wait for the sunny weather to come around again.

Tanya from socksandmittens says:

Win the gift exchange with this handmade crochet bath pouf! Great idea for stocking stuffer, too

Connie Lee from Bungalow42 says:

Did you draw names for holiday gifts? Did you draw the hip retro/mod one in your gift exchange group? We’ve got you covered! No worries about sizing. No worries about duplicate gifts.

The wasabi, dark teal and avocado three petal flowers engender a mod retro vibe in these dangle earrings. The hand knotted flowers sway softly on the waxed linen thread creating a floating effect, particularly fun against a backdrop of tresses.

Naughty Is The New Nice

Cindy Humphrey from Cynhumphrey says:

Show the world you know how to be “naughty” in a nice way by taking a step back in retro time with this sexy cartoon pin up girl scarf pendant! Perfect way to warm up those cold winter days… or evenings!

Solveiga from Knitwoolsocks says:

Cheer up your cozy evenings at home with these fun socks made to look like Santa’s socks.

Stock Lane Studio from StockLaneStudio says:

Of course SLS has a Christmas card for the ‘naughty’ one on your list. This card is funny without stepping too far over the line and makes a great card for a husband or wife. As an interactive card, the mirror inside always gets a fun reaction and it’s one of our biggest hits at holiday craft fairs. Merry Christmas everyone!

Loranesss from TurquoiseNature says:

My extremely Naughty Santa! He lives in Ukraine now but he can leave me anytime and go to another county soon!

Just For Them

Richard and Tatiana from DesignstheLimit says:

Did someone say Monogram! We specialize in creating personalized gifts for every occasion and monogrammed gifts make the perfect touch to any celebration. We are ready for the holidays and hope you make every gift giving opportunity into a personalized gift giving experience.

Choose from our selection of products to use as a canvas, select any combination of our available designs and available fonts from our selections, include gift wrap and gift card for shipping directly to your gift recipient, and send us your custom order requests!

Moody Hues (Nordic Snowfall and Deep Jewels)

Nancy Duncan from EponasCrystals says:

These jeweled scarves are done in jewel tones of red, purple, green and blue.

Emily Tan from QuirkyEleganceEm says:

These handmade earrings feature gorgeous sapphire blue vintage lamp work beads set off by sparkling silver accents. The spider-web lace like detail on these glass cage beads remind me a bit of frost, and the colour simply takes my breath away!

Linda B. from lindab142 says:

This deep jewels bracelet combines metallic blue with silver and a white tassel to top it off.

Make It Metallic

Contributor post by Alicia from AliciasFindings

Metallic is defined as anything made of or looks like its made of metal. Different metals tend to be popular at different times. At this time silver seems to be the hot metallic. I know some who follow the trends, but truthfully its personal preference.

We want to see all your metallics. Tell us all about your metallic item. What is it? What does it do? And so on….

Pam from PearlsVintagebyPam says metallic means tin! I collect unique tins and I found this fantastic guitar tin. It’s clean, it shines and vibrates as it prepares to play for you! Rock and Roll!

Electric guitar tin

Gillian from Gillisflowers said I like playing with different papers and often combine them in different ways. For this metallic looking hair comb I layered a VERY fine and delicate tissue paper in shades of blue on to a piece of silver foil paper. I love the finished effect and this hair comb really looks more like metal than paper.

Rose hair clip

Linda from LazyYVintage states these lovely green metal angel candle holders are a favorite of mine. They have brass candle holder cups and are painted to look like tarnished copper.

Dawn from DeeDeeSupplies says being a supplies shop I have lots of metal in my shop!! These swirly beads are my favourite at the moment … I love the way they capture and reflect light due to their flowing shape.

Because of this swirly reflective quality they are not only great for statement jewellery but would also be great for home decor design such as wind chimes!

Silver swirl beads

Diana from joliefemmebydiana said a lightweight little bag to use for evening is great with a metallic touch! One of these has gold metallic accents with green and the other has silvery metallic with teal. Both make a great gift!

Richard and Tatiana from DesignstheLimit states we originally created this design for the Net Neutrality protest many years ago now, but we keep it listed to show our support for Net Neutrality. We encourage Etsy sellers to show your advocacy in your Etsy shop and social media.

Personalization, using any combinations of the designs in our portfolio and fonts we have available in our selection, is included in the cost of the products in our Etsy shop, but we also offer and specialize in commissioned inspired designs including images submitted on request. Submit your own images, have us create an inspired design with your inspiration.

Dawn from DeeDeeDeesigns says this necklace is made from upcycled metal guitar strings wound with a thin metal jewellery wire. The memory wire necklace is also metal, and while the feature bead is plastic it has a statement metal presence.

This is a great gift for the music lover!

Natalia from KMalinkaVintage said here is gold gilt vintage 1950s electric alarm clock by Matson it has an ornate ormolu gilt frame with dogwood bird.

Elisabeth from LizPOriginals says love I adore metallic … adds fantastic touch to mundane pieces. like the metallic finish on these oval beads –featured in my Christmas ornaments.

Tovi from tovisorgaboutique said we print on leather and have a very unique range printing on metallic leather, so our products have a beautiful metallic feature, combined with rich, high-definition print design.

Some of our most popular products include metallic leather clutch bags, cuff wallets, bracelets and this particularly yummy Birds of Paradise tote bag – which features a toucan on one side and a cockatoo on the other.

Nancy from EponasCrystals states gold, gold and more gold! This statement ring has layers of golden ball chain and rhinestone cup chain, with Swarovski crystal chatons.

Judy from JAMsCraftCloset says my sweet metallic silver flower girl basket will bring smiles to everyone as she walks down the aisle spreading her rose petals. The PERFECT accessory for the PERFECT wedding.

Beach Time

Contributor Post by Sheila and Shannon of BeadyEyedBird

For some of us, August may be our last chance to hit the beach for the summer. What do you love most about the beach, and which/where is your favorite? We asked our teamies what they bring (or sell) related to BEACH TIME (!) and here’s what they said!

This photograph was captured on the Oregon Coast (I offer a printed and printable version). My children and their cousins were having a little beach therapy: sinking their feet in the sand. The wild natural beaches of the Pacific North West are my favorite. The chilly waters of the ocean along the Oregon coast can be too much for some, but with temperatures reaching 107°F (42°C) in much of the state for the first week of August, the Oregon beaches are the place to be.

At Design’s the Limit we have an entire section of our shop dedicated to Destination Themed Picture Frames including a number of Tropical, Carribean, & Beach Themed Destinations! We encourage beach goers and vacationers to take a picture and share your experiences with the world! Inspire others with your custom picture frame and the memories of the moments they contain @DesignstheLimit.

Diana from joliefemmebydiana said:

Watching the water from the beach is a peaceful pastime! Nothing soothes like the sights and sounds of waves and blue water. Any coastal drive or town is a fun visit to the lovely ocean! Here is a sailboat scene on my little mini pocket. Perfect for a any sailing enthusiast.

I can’t think of the beach without the sight and sound of waves breaking on the shore. If you explore beneath the waves, you might be surprised at the variety of sea creatures that inhabit the reefs. Our “Reef Buddies” quilt features pieced wave blocks along with colorful creatures from the shallow seas. Use this pattern to make a keepsake of your perfect beach vacation!

Sarah Johnson from BellaBoutique23 said:

My family started an annual beach trip and we went to the Oregon Coast this year. It was really cold there but I loved watching my nieces and nephews play, a couple of them had their first time seeing the ocean! I have this adorable beach theme scrapbook in my shop perfect for those cute photos of kiddos playing on the beach.

Connie Lee from Bungalow42 said:

One glance at my shop will tell you that I am fond of the beach. I grew up near the Texas coast and spent many happy childhood days on the beach with my family. As I grew my love of the beach flourished. I learned to surf in high school though anyone familiar with the Texas coast knows that the waves are usually kinda lame short of an approaching hurricane. Storms aside catching a modest wave on my giant surf board (dating myself here) was always a thrill.

It is this love of the beach that inspires many of my designs but none more perhaps than my shell earrings. Each shell is spaced expressly to mirror the opposite earring. Given the unique nature of shells no two earrings are identical which is part of their charm. The shells sway gracefully on waxed linen thread and make a lovely sound that is so faint only the wearer will hear its whisper.

Get your beach on!

Sherri from ButterflyFeetDigital said:

My favorite place to visit the ocean beaches is New Zealand. Not so much for white sand, but I love rocky coastlines, and NZ has lots and lots of that. I find beaches especially interesting when there are seashells to find and rocks to explore.

This stationery / printable journal set is from a variety of beaches – New Zealand and California, but I’m not sure to be honest where they all were. I sell scrapbooking items but I am pretty poor at actually finishing scrapbooking, and have lots of unlabeled travel photos in drawers and on the computer. I hate that I am so disorganized!

I was half brought up on the beach with spending all holidays at the family beach house! At this time it was a sleepy seaside town, now it is a commercial metropolis with corporate surf shops and fashion labels – needless to say I don’t go there anymore!

But I do still love the beach in summer. These beach themed charms are ideal for adding summer accents to your jewellery, bunting, handbags, and home decor.

I was raised surf fishing and enjoying the beach, fishing, relaxing, and camping as a child, here in Florida.

Many of my pieces are beachy, but not typical in my opinion.
I prefer the early morning and the eveing and the night, which is reflected in my artwork and functional art pieces. I hope you enjoy this entry.

Linda from LazyYVintage said:

This my absolute favorite item in our shop, and going to the beach is the most magical of all vacations. We really like Destin, FL and the Gulf of Mexico. I bring my beach chair, a good book, and an umbrella. I can spend all day there, watching the waves and just be still. There is a spirituality about it and peace just flows through you.

Linda Britt from BrittDesign said:

I live in the desert and going to the beach usually means a trip to San Diego. I love walking the beach and finding artifacts. That gave me the idea for the polymer and angel skin coral necklace.

Cindy Humphrey from Cynhumphrey said:

Who doesn’t like to see dolphins when they’re at the beach? Beach and dolphins go hand in hand for me! But since you can’t go to the beach every day to see these amazing creatures, this wine bottle stopper can bring back the happy memories of when you did!

I remember our trips to Myrtle Beach and Tybee Island with our children when they were small. It was the best time ever just to see their little faces light up at the sight of all that water!! We always came back home with tons of beautiful sea shells with plans to create something special to remember our trip.
Although, I never liked the salty water on my skin I did however, love walking through the cool sand as the sun would set and at early morning sunrise!!

Emily Tan from QuirkyEleganceEm said:

My favourite beach as a child was Air Papan Beach in Mersing, Malaysia. My family used to go there very often, and I remember making many various sand cakes (they don’t really count as castles) with the very white and very clean sand. The sand would squeak if you rubbed your feet in it the right way, which was a constant source of amusement for me as a young child.

I love collecting seashells on the beach! There are always so many different shapes and types of shells. This is a special piece of jewellery I made with a collected seashell and bead embroidery.

Susan Fowler from SSFDesigns said:

Nothing like the beach on a hot day! I love to read a book relax and watch the water and waves. My favorite times are when my children were small nothing like the joy on there faces as they played in the sand and water. Of course I loved having a cool swimsuit to wear too!
