Everything’s Coming Up Roses

Posted by Mairi from mairidesign

My love is like a red, red rose
That’s newly sprung in june;
My love is like the melody
That’s sweetly played in tune:

As fair art thou, my bonnie lass,
So deep in love am I:
And I will love thee still, my dear,
Till all the seas run dry.

By Robert Burns, 1794

We each hold a favourite colour of rose and we may also attach some sentimental meaning to particular colours, but ultimately, the rose is seen as a timeless symbol of love.

The team have selected their rose flower items to share with you today, enjoy!

Judy Merashoff from JAMsCraftCloset says:

This hand-painted, heart-shaped glass serving tray would make the perfect gift, especially with the pink roses, which symbolize gratitude, grace, admiration, and joy. Share the LOVE…

Sandra Darlene from SDDigitalDesign says:

Roses are my favorite flowers. They are beautiful and elegant and are an effective way to communicate without having to say a word. Roses send a clear message of love and whisper what words cannot say. They speak volumes in their own language.

I designed this floral print for those times we need to express ourselves but aren’t exactly sure what to say. Who will you share a rose with today?

Roses are one of my favorite flowers. I had red roses in my wedding bouquet and white roses were given to me the day before my wedding by my now husband. I still get my favorite red ones here and there during the year.
I love them so much that they are used in my aroma therapy machine. It smells so good in my home!!

Roses mean a lot to me because they remind me of my Dear Sweet Mother – both the sight and smell of them will always evoke fond memories of her. She spent many happy hours in her garden tending to her Roses and there was always a vase full of these beautiful flowers sitting on her sideboard or dining table! I love this beautiful gold Rose pin and I know my mother would have too…

As the rose is seen as a timeless symbol of love, I wanted to design something that not only symbolized love but also a showed off of a few of the things I love. My favorite color is blue and my favorite bead to work with resembles a satin bead.

These elegant dangle earrings are perfect for that lady who likes simple but classy accessories. They are light-weight and so easy to wear for a long period of time. A perfect gift idea! She’ll love them! You have to see them to appreciate them.

Back In Time

Contributor Post by Mary from StockLaneStudio

The Etsy CIJ team is full of vintage and retro treasures.  From Art Deco mirrors and vintage recipe boxes to finely preserved antique music programs. Adorn bright retro dresses with brooches and pendants that brings us back to the ‘good ol’ days’ or evoke cherished memories.

Mairi from mairidesign says

Pop ‘back in time’ each day as you put your make-up on in this Art Deco style mirror. A century ago this style captured the hearts of our grandparents and, with bold geometric patterns, it continues to add a touch of decadence in today’s modern homes.
Those reminiscing about the “good old days” can’t help but remember how popular this pin up girl was back in her day! This adorable scarf pendant slide is the perfect gift for a gal who knows how to have fun. It adds a touch of whimsical class to any accessory collection!

Bevan Blackshaw from TimberDimensions says

Brooches were once popular items of jewellery to enhance an outfit. As with all things they seem to be making a resurgence, My timber brooches are made from offcuts of rare and beautiful timbers. These will last for eons. The finding is screwed, not glued to the timber and I use findings of the highest quality that I can find. Truely a beautiful thing that takes you back to a time gone by.

I found this lovely and unique recipe basket at an estate sale. Inside were some blank recipe cards, but no old recipes. To find some old recipes would have been the icing on the cake…but this cake would have to go without icing for now…Do people still use recipe boxes or do they just save recipes on their social media or their computers, iPads, or Smart Phones? The recipe box may be a thing of the past.
From a time when travelling by ship was the only way to get to where you wanted to be. From the Cunard Steamship Gallia. this 1883 this shipboard concert program speaks to the entertainment of the day and the fund raising efforts of the time. That it has been preserved and survived all these years fascinates me.
I love fashion ! But fashions from the past has such a wonderful story to be told. Although this dress is not vintage it is inspired from the times of the past 1950 I call it my “I Love Lucy” dress. I remember watching that show with my family and laughing so much!

Marjorie Scenna from mscenna says

I love all things vintage and each of my creations starts with a vintage piece or two. This repurposed picture frame has fun retro style and features a collection of vintage buttons and jewelry parts. It’s the perfect way to display a photo or keepsake with special memories!

It happened 40 years ago. My parents went to my brother in Switzerland at Christmas. I was left alone on a holy night. When they came home with a nice woolen bed blanket as a gift. This cushion is made of this bed cover. It is a retro style.

The Secret Gardener

Spring, flowers and planting/garden time.. will be here before we know it! Of all the seasons I think Spring is my favorite, the new flowers and grass – the birds singing in the trees, but planting and gardening can go on year round.

What kind of idea’s – gifts for others or yourself – does this topic bring to mind? It can be indoor gardening as well.

Practical, whimsical, down and dirty (in the dirt planting), or garden design, while wearing your favorite white outfit? I’d love to hear your thoughts and see your items.

Here in Michigan, spring is a welcome season! We have many gardens and a fish pond in our yard to enjoy. I can’t wait for the bulbs to bloom, signaling the end of winter.

A fairy garden in my kitchen window brings a pop of green to our dreary landscape. We have many tiny items in our Shop that are perfectly sized for fairy gardens.

This little bird bath is one of them:

Spring is a noisy time of the year in our garden. The birds are competing for mates, building nests, and raising babies. The bees are buzzing in the flowers, and the frogs are singing their croaking chorus in the evening. We love to sit outdoors in the cool evening, enjoying the sights and sounds of Nature!

Our downloadable quilt block pattern features a little frog who isn’t quite sure whether the bumblebee is tasty or dangerous. This would be a fun decoration for a kitchen towel, mug rug, or spring wall hanging.

I love the spring season in my garden, when all plants grow up and every day we discover something new.
This year will be the third year in which I will be working intensively on a vegetable garden to provide ourselves with the whole year.
I look forward to do this.
I spend much time in my garden, and love to protect myself with one of my Sun Hats.

I’m knee-deep in seed catalogs and writing in my garden journal. In addition to my vegetable garden, we plant Impatiens, vinca, geraniums, and other annuals in colorful and vintage pots. My perennial gardens are full of wildflowers that run the gamut of color and height. Butterfly gardens full of bergamot, sawtooth sunflower, shooting stars, turk cap lilies, day lilies, Easter lilies, bearded iris, and on and on.

Gardening to me is about feeding us and creating a beautiful peaceful place to relax and reconnect with yourself and your spiritual guide.

My mother was an award-winning rose gardener. The photo below was taken in her garden a year before she passed away. I’ve always wanted to grow the abundant, fragrant and colorful roses she tended in our garden growing up. I have given in to the fact that mine will never be like hers! Not enough time and too many garden animals. I want to devote more time to an edible garden. We have gorgeous wild roses growing in our garden, along with a good amount of other forest greenery that provide food for wild animals. I’m hoping that will be enough to distract them from eating the edible garden for MY table. Even with fences, though, I’m not too confident. With more than a foot of snow on the ground now in February, the deer and rabbits and fox and woodchucks will be hungry this spring.

Unfortunately I have no garden, since l live in a building.

But, as l love gardening anyway, each one of the four balconies of my home is full of plants.

On the kitchen balcony l have aromatic plants, herbs, used for cooking and seasoning: basil, peppermint, parsley, rosemary, and so on.

On the other ones, a wonderful hibiscus and many succulents, as in South Italy there is always enough sun for them, even in winter.

So, to celebrate mine passion and the next spring coming, l created a wreath, completely dedicated to gardening lovers.
Hope you enjoy it!

I adore the small spring bulbs, whether growing wild, in a garden, or even in a window-box. Snowdrops and crocuses bring such a joyful splash of colour after the dark monochrome of winter.

By creating flowers from felt I allow small reminders of that joyful moment to be kept through the year.

I love springtime! Everything is fresh and new. I like the green grass and trees and all the colorful flowers…and they always look the prettiest against the blue skies of a Oklahoma day. Sadly, my nose and eyes don’t share in this enjoyment! So I celebrate springtime inside.

We made this whimsical floral pillow cover with spring in mind. The pink and yellow flowers are just so “happy”. Our pillow cover would fit perfectly in just about any home decor setting.

Here in Orlando, the seasons are not as defined by weather as they are in other parts of the country. You have to depend on decor to help your mind get into the spirit of the season. I created this hand embroidered Spring ornament to celebrate the flowers and birds that best represent Spring.

I really love Spring with its promise of new life both in the plant world and in the animal kingdom!

It is such a joy to see all of the beautiful and colorful flowers growing and the leaves coming back on the trees!

Gardening indoors and out is one of my favorite things to do and I enjoy planting all manner of flowers, veggies, and small ornamental trees!

It refreshes your spirit, is good exercise, and beautifies your surroundings.

Outside of a small apartment out in the country, in Lancaster, MA, I had 3 gardens which were all different color schemes!

My neighbors loved them and my pots of pansies, golden chain and weeping Japanese ornamental trees!

I used to do experiments with growing and pollinating, and even had a corn-stalk in the house!

One garden was all peach and white, another purples and blues, and the third was red, orange, and yellow.

It was so much fun planting unique varieties of roses, tulips, irises, lilies, hyacinths, phlox, Alaskan poppies, and lots more with various natural stone garden decorations!

It is definitely something I look forward to through the long Winters in the Northeast!

Happy Gardening!

Thank you everyone for your wonderful submissions! I love them all.

To me outside gardening is more for my husband but I love flowers, colors and all things springtime. I made outdoor birdhouses this month, of course, with owl lady owls hand painted on them.

Springtime and gardens are so lovely! When I worked at a local college back in my teaching days, I would visit the student gardens and spend my breaks they’re walking amidst the blooms.
