May – New Arrivals

Contributor post by Michelle of EviesToolEmporium

Join the Christmas In July team as we celebrate May – New Arrivals.

Carolyn Eady from SproutsPressDesigns says:

I’ve always wanted to design and craft a line of journals that are completely my own. I feel this series of Fancy Coptic Journals is a step in the right direction. The covers showcase paper that I hand-dyed, yielding unique results, making each book one of a kind. And while the coptic stitch is fairly common, I’ve amended it to show off the spine of the book.

Sarah Johnson from BellaBoutique23 says:

One of my closest friends loves tea and many times as we spend time together she will offer me a cup of tea as we share, laugh, cry, or just enjoy each other in silence. As I made the card, I thought of her, “A cup of Tea warms the soul like a good friend”.

Annie from DesignedbyAnneliese says:

At the moment I have quite a few friends who are having babies! Havng 2 boys of my own (one of them a baby), thought why not make a baby boy card to welcome a new baby! The card is layered giving it a 3D effect.

Lin Collette from rhodyart says:

From a purely practical standpoint, I need to add more get well/encouragement cards to the shop, so that’s one reason I made this.
On a more creative level, though, I love to work with vintage photos and images of people from bygone times and imagine what they might be thinking, especially if their expression is very prim and proper.

This particular image, I think, is from a website called The Graphics Fairy and it’s one of a set of Victorian Shakespearean images of Shakespeare heroines. I did notice that Lady Macbeth is not included in this set (lol) and if you know the play, you’ll understand why.

I like to use vintage style patterned papers to evoke that mood of a time past, hence my choice of the red and white paper used here-the red pattern is actually flocked onto the paper so it’s raised and feels very nice. Adds a little extra touch.

Though I do other work that I don’t usually sell on Etsy, I always, always come back to doing these cards because I enjoy them.

Carola Bartz from CarolaBartz says:

I had this idea of including a compass on a graduation card. I like the idea of pointing to the right direction after graduation and finding a way through life. A graduation is a start for that, isn’t it? My daughter will graduate from high school next year, so this topic is currently close to me.

Cathy Hahn from CathysCraftWorld says:

I love making things for children. Although my shop is for everyone, I have a special love for creating things for babies and children. I love making frames that can either be picture frames or decorations all by themselves. I would love to have people come see what I do as I also love browsing other’s shops!

Sarah from bellazahn says:

Don’t you just love the Scandinavian feel of all these stockings? They remind me of the handknitted jumpers my mother used to knit when we were kids. Sadly my knitting skills are not up to making them in wool so this advent calendar in cotton will have to be my new favourite instead!

Patricia from TheOldBarnDoor says:

I have started to ramp up my Christmas listings already. This charming pillow cover is made with a section of one of my antique postcards and adds just the right vintage touch to the upcoming holiday season decorating. Actually I think it is charming enough to leave out for the entire winter season. Soft and cuddly the pillow cover is made from velveteen – ahh, just perfect to cuddle with on those cold winter nights (yup, those cold nights will return).

I love vintage items and when I found this sweet honey bee pattern, I just had to embroider it! I picked a new fabric for the back that had a mod style to it which adds to the retro feel. Tangerine – Pantone Fashion Color For Spring 2015

Contributor post by Michelle of EviesToolEmporium

Color trends are a wonderful way to celebrate the seasons!

According to Pantone one of the top colors for Spring 2015 is Tangerine.

Pantone Spring 2015

Pantone Spring 2015

Spontaneous and gregarious, Tangerine is a juicy orange shade that is energizing, yet not jarring to the eye. Versatile Tangerine is striking enough to stand on its own and adds vitality to a printed pattern. Good natured and friendly, but with a tangy edge, this fun-loving color invites a smile.

Members of the EtsyChristmasinJuly Team have many Tangerine items in their shops! Here are a few!

CandyAppleCrafts from CandyAppleCrafts says:

I didn’t make this piece, but it caught my eye. It’s such a fun, carefree design! I can picture a lady wearing sandals and a scarf in her hair, carrying this with her on the way to a sunny brunch or afternoon at the beach!

Ina from InaSudjana says:

I wanted to do something that’s out there. And for a business card wallet, it needn’t be dull and boring. I need an edge – a fun yet practical, a pick me up yet serious. Tangerine it is! Just LOVE the combo with the dusty turquoise!

In the store where I buy beads, they had strings of hand blown glass beads of all colors. There was one string that caught my eye. It was multi-color with 11 beads per string. there were two of each color except the tangerine swirl with yellow. That was the bead I wanted. So, I had to buy two strands to get this one pair, but it was worth it. It is a gorgeous bright color that just invites fun.

Dawn Whitehand from DeeDeeDeesigns says:

Much of my inspiration is organic colour and surface drawn from nature so I love this triple pendant necklace made from marbled clays designed to feature the inherent texture of the natural clay body – there is no glaze. The contrast of the orange tangerine and white colours are fresh and playful. This is a great necklace for day or night time wear.

It even comes packaged in a gorgeous tangerine drawstring jewellery pouch!

Tracy from LittleShopofColor says:

This item is part of a rainbow collection of papers that I have been creating. I still have 5 more sets to post and I am also combining the papers into two large bundles of 5 sets. My inspiration – all the colors of the rainbow!!

The papers in this pack have a pretty “tone on tone” effect so the tangerine color is really pretty.

Wendy Joy from wjoydesigns says:

I was inspired to make this butterfly sun catcher in honor of the monarch butterflies that I loved so dearly as a child. I have been seeing them in their annual migration less and less over the last 10 years and it truly saddens me. I made this as a reminder to myself and others to remember these beautiful delicate creatures and to save them by not using pesticides. Also, as a reminder to plant butterfly attracting flowers in your yards to help them on their cross continent journey!

Lia Russo from Ghirlandiamo says:

This is not a proper wreath for spring time! But people love it in any period of the year and it’s one of the preferred ones.

My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds and shall find me unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate,
I am the captain of my soul.

Art Is A Treasured Part Of Home And Living

Contributor post by Alicia of AliciasFindings

Etsy has many categories from which to search for that perfect item! The two I am going to focus on now are: Home and Living and Art. The team is full of artists of all types,  but these categories are just breathtaking and unique!

Come take a journey with me!

Rachel Palmer of 910woolgathering states:

My grand mother used to crochet pot holders. Hers were unfortunately made from acrylic yarn and sadly melted. I create mine from wool yarns, which will not melt or flame up. The are also machine washable on cold, lay flat to dry, so are easy to care for, and will be long lasting.

il_170x135.517150987_swv1

Barbara of SalentoFeltShop explains:

Cartapesta Leccese is the ancient art used in Salento (last land of Italy) to make religious statues, but not only. I love to make wonderful roses with this simple material! Every detail is hand cut and molded with passion and care!

il_170x135.599303541_m6vo

Kelly of ColourscapeStudios says:

A homely touch for the walls, our home doesn’t run unless we’re fueled up in the morning with the sweet taste of coffee!

il_170x135.559915396_se8v

Lia Russo of Ghirlandiamo mentions:

I do love magnolia leaves (either fresh and dried ones), so I often use them for my creations.
Even leaves are already dried, they go on slightly modifying, as time goes by and they constantly take new shapes.
So you have a “living” decor at your home!

il_170x135.626075585_cdms

Hopefully you learned something new or found something you must have for your Home!

You can be crafty, too!

Contributor post by Amy of BeadsAndThreadsbyAmy

Around the holidays, I love giving and receiving crafted goods.  It means so much to me that my loved ones think enough of me to pour their heart and souls into creating a gift for me.  My mother used to crochet blankets and doilies, my aunt used to quilt picture albums and create Cabbage Patch doll clothes, and my grandmother used to can foods for holiday gifts.  I loved every gift and still treasure them today.

Our Christmas in July team has some wonderful kits, supplies, and patterns to offer you for your holiday crafting.  Whether a beginner or expert, you are sure to find all of your supplies for crafting the perfect, heartwarming gift.

1) Sue and Misty from shabbyshopgirls says

This is the time to start making or thinking about giving a gift of crafting supplies! We have many different kits available in our shop – our favorite being this beautiful Nativity Scene Tree Skirt Kit by Bucilla. Whether you like to craft yourself, or know others who would love to make this tree skirt, it would be a beautiful gift or made up, a gorgeous heirloom to pass down generation to generation!

2) Barbara from AuntBsAttic says

My youngest fell in love with outer space when he was 4 years old. His Favorite Uncle lives out in the country – free of street light interference – and most nights are spent on the back porch looking through several telescopes. When I saw this fabric, I was flooded with wonderful star gazing memories – of visits to my brother’s house, and the happy squeals of a child discovering his first hidden treasures in the night sky (and he now owns his own telescopes and is an avid star gazer!)

3) Sheila and Shannon from BeadyEyedBird says

This little item has been used by my happy customers to make a simple and quick (and adorable) necklace — for themselves or for gifts for others. Just add a simple ball chain and you’re there! When I lived in Santa Fe, we often saw the most gorgeous blue birds — bluejays & bluebirds, primarily! And I LOVED them. So of course I was delighted to find this pendant and offer it to others. Another reason I love these is because I used to get goose eggs and spray paint them gold for Easter, and tell my daughter these were very special eggs laid by the Easter bunny, just for her. Ah, I loved those days! (And she did too…) So the gold egg in this wonderful art pendant reminds me of that too.

4) Jennifer Loftfield from CaffeinatedPapercuts says

I love scrap booking (it’s an easy offshoot) but I always feel like I’m “behind” in keeping up with the piles of photos laying around. To catch up, I’ve started dong some traditional scrap booking and some pocket scrap booking. That said, I can never leave anything just a flat, boring piece of paper so I decked out some journaling / pocket cards for my pages and decided to offer them in my shop as well! They’d be just as perfect to use on a card, tag…anything you can think of.

I’m not sure if this counts as a supply, since it’s also a kit. But here goes anyways.

This is a bookbinding kit I put together as a result of requests for workshops outside of my city. While I love to teach in person, it’s just not always possible, so I created a simple, step by step kit for eager bookbinder enthusiasts. This kit is a beginners kit, easy peasy, low stress and simple. It comes with all the tools and materials needed, so it makes a great gift or the perfect thing to bring on a cottage vacation!

Along with my hand made knit and crochet items I carry supplies as well, from my own hand spun yarn to excess factory yarns I no longer need. This particular hand spun is made from a natural colored sheeps wool and is three ply. I spun this at a re enactment event, and this item is great for recreating items for other re-enactors or any other typical use for yarn.

6) Rachel Palmer from 910woolgathering says “Take a little time for yourself…and when you can’t: Wear a hat!”

My favorite time saver when I am on the go and in a hurry, a hat. Look good with out having to fuss with your hair. No one will ever know you didn’t take time to fix it . Just tuck it up or quick pony tails, and you look perfectly polished.
Pull your hair up under this darling hat for a great look when you are in a hurry to get the kids!

5)  Kelly from ColourscapeStudios says “Always be Thankful…no matter how busy you are”.

As Mum’s/Mom’s, we’re all running around crazy and frantic getting everything sorted, people to places, meals cooked, the endless mountain of washing… and we sometimes forget to just sit down with our kids and just watch/play and interact. I have this print on my wall at home near my front door as a reminder each day to think of something I’m thankful of, and a lot of the time it ends up revolving around my daughter.
Lovely sign to remember to be thankful for the love and laughter in our life no matter how hectic our life becomes.

4) charlene c from CeeCeeandBee says “Always remember…wash your hands!”

Back to school, or starting school for the first time… means coming home with germs and getting sick. I should know, I’m a single mom of two elementary school aged kids! Make sure everyone washes their hands when they get home – and all the other regular times.

I’ve made this non-toxic hand soap perfect for killing germs and bacteria without any of the crazy chemicals in other products. Stay well my friends!

Be sure to keep germs at bay so you can give your best to the people who depend on you.

3) Sheila and Shannon from BeadyEyedBird says “Always remember…you are beautiful, too”.

I think Mom’s on the go need a little magic in their lives (what this cool star Quartz crystal pendulum represents). Just something in their pocket to remind them remember to stay calm and hug the kids, because nothing else matters more.
A magical pendant to remind you how special you are to everyone around you.

2) Ifigeneia tsiltikli from fifirixtra says “Always remember the baby wipes”.

My tip ( as a new mam) is to have ALWAYS in your bag baby wipes! You can use all the time to clean any kind of mess that a baby can make! In my house i have 1 pack in every room!!!!

1) Angie Fitzpatrick from CraftyMom75 says “Stay on track with an organized calendar and some treats for the toddler”.

Keep one calendar with separate colors of ink for each person to keep items all in one place.

Also, keeping a few small treats with you while running errands always can keep a toddler calm. Dollar store toys, crayons, goldfish all work well!

AMERICA THE BEAUTIFUL

O, beautiful for spacious skies,
For amber waves of grain,
For purple mountain majesties,
Above the fruited plain!
America! America! God shed his grace on thee,
And crown thy good with brotherhood
From sea to shining sea.

I love the Fourth of July!  Americans put aside our political, social, and societal differences to celebrate our freedom.  We pay homage to those who have made the ultimate sacrifice to keep our country “Land of the Free and The Home of the Brave”.  In that spirit, our Christmas in July team offers these stories and our heartfelt wishes for a Happy, Safe, and Glorious Independence Day!  Let freedom ring!

Jeanne from TheSandlapperShop says “My grandmother and great grandmother loved to crochet and these vintage hankies with the lover’s knot crocheted edging are from them. I love the hankies and the memories of the special ladies who made them. The red, white, and blue handkerchief is so patriotic.  “American the Beautiful” – what a wonderful song and description of the country’s beauty: my favorite 4th of July memories are watching fireworks. I especially love how the timing is set to music. One year I was so lucky as to watch them in Boston while listening to the Boston Pops and earlier that day I walked the Freedom Trail. A wonderful double dose of patriotism! “

carriageoncherry from CarriageOnCherry says  “When you live aboard for so many years you gain such an appreciation for this beautiful country. The freedoms in American that we enjoy should be treasured. My husband became a citizen of the United States several years ago. To see so many countries represented in one court room, individuals raising their right hand and taking a pledge to call this country their home gave me goose bumps and brought tears to my eyes. In fact, it still does. I have learned more about this country through his eyes and excitement. So on the 4th of July in our home we celebrate “our” country, we celebrate the right to become a citizen and we appreciate and treasure our freedoms! God bless America!”

Sarah Johnson from BellaBoutique23 says  “My husband has spent two tours in Iraq serving our country and I am so proud of him and thankful for all the sacrifices that he and many men and women make for our country so that we can be free. When my husband came home from his first deployment I was a music teacher in an elementary school, For the end of the year program we sang patriotic songs and had a slide show as they sang to honor my husband and other soldiers who had just returned from a deployment. We invited several of the soldiers in Aaron’s unit to come to the assembly. That is such a special memory for me. One of the songs was “God Bless the USA”. We also sang a song by Mark Scultz “Letters From War”, a very moving song that always brings tears to my eyes. So thank you to all of the soldiers who have sacrificed, given their lives, and spent time away from family so we can keep our freedom. I am so proud to be an American! God Bless America!”

I never understood why he would come and go, but it wasn’t until years later I understood and was grateful that he helped protect our borders, so we could have our freedom and liberty. The things we take for granted always comes at a price, as freedom isn’t really free. Many thanks goes to our men and women that give up their lives, so we can have ours. Thank God for our America the Beautiful!”
