It’s All About The Laugh

Hi!  It’s Rita from HandmadeBits4u.  Did you know that a good laugh is good for the soul, that laughter helps reduce tension, and that laughter is definetely so much better overall than being grumpy?

And did you know that the entire month of April has been declared National Humor Month?  All kinds of information about National Humor Month can be found here.   So take some time to tip your hat to Larry Wilde, Director of The Carmel Institute of Humor, who founded National Humor Month.  Needless to say, some of our team members have product in their Etsy Shops that will tickle your funny bone too!  So read on and enjoy a laugh or two along the way.

Camille and Susan of upCdooZ start us off with this darling upcycled Dr. Seuss Horton Hear a Who girls T-Shirt Dress.  Dr. Seuss is always good for a laugh no matter your age!

Kelly of ColourscapeStudios has a way with words and captures them on prints!  This is one of my favorites – check out her shop though for many more.

colourscapeBeadsandThreadsbyAmy does custom embroidery.  One of Amy’s favorites is this “Help Wanted” kitchen design.  Her only wish is that her husband would get the hint!

Humor is old as mankind is.  TangerineToes has this vintage item available in her shop.  It is a “Real Women Don’t Cook Dinner” Miss Piggy Towel.  Who can keep a straight face around Miss Piggy and her muppet companions?

Lisa of Sparkklejar has another laughter inducing vintage piece.  Only the grumpiest of grumps can keep a straight face at the sight of these zombie stabbing pickle forks!

sparkllejarJeanne of CedarwoodCreations loves to laugh!  When she found these mustache charms she absolutely had to make necklaces using them because they made her smile!

cedarcreationsRita of SticksNStonesGifts made these cute comical bug napkins for kids so that they have something fun at lunchtime.  The print makes Rita laugh so she’s sure they will bring smiles and enjoyment to others too!

sticksandstonesEvelyn and Lucy of artsyEVE also incorporate fun fabrics into their products.  This cat fabric is one of their favorites and have made this adorable soft baby book using it.

So here’s hoping that one of more of these products have brought a smile to your face, a bit of laughter, and the knowledge that we have the whole month of April to celebrate humor!!

2014 Goal Setting

As we head into another new year it is very common to spend some time thinking about what we want to accomplish between now and the end of the year.  So we asked our team members what their Etsy goals were for 2014 and we were not disappointed in their feedback.

Amy of BeadsandThreadsbyAmy will be listing three new items in her shop by February 1.  She is in the process of mastering the art of “in the hoop” embroidery designs and will have that completed by February 20.  And based on her the progress she’s making on small zippered purses, she will be expanding her customer base – something that all of us would love to do.

Jenni of DayDreamsSunshine plans on being diligent about setting time aside each week to make something new or to try a new technique.  I’m sure we will be seeing more delightful creations from Jenni over the next few months!

Corkycrafts has plans to add more Texas flower seeds to her shop because they have been in high demand from her customers.  Corkycrafts will also be making new creations with wine corks in addition to her wine cork wreaths.

Sherri of ButterflyFeetDigital is working out the details to organize her time better.  She wants to do this so she can have more time for creating.  She especially wants to find more time to make more of her very popular calendars.

Keep a close eye on Deanna’s FiddledeeDeeCraft shop for her new line of customizable dolls.  Deanna has her patterns all ready and as the new fabric arrives she will be sewing, creating, photographing, and listing them in her shop.

Drink more coffee – that’s one of Jennifer’s goals.  Seems rather appropriate for a shop named CaffeinatedPapercuts!  Jennifer will be adding printable Valentines for this upcoming holiday.  And she will be launching a new line of scrapbook kits and supplies by July.

Hope you enjoyed reading about some of the goals of our team members.  Have you set your 2014 goals yet?  What personal goals do you have?  What about your career?  And what are your goals for your free time?  Or your hobbies?

Creativity Quotes

Do you ever feel that your creativity has left you?  That you can’t find it anywhere regardless of where you look for it and how long you try to find it?  I am guessing that most EtsyChristmasInJuly team members have felt that on occasion.

When I find myself in a creative rut I take a creative break.  One of my favorite things to do during my creative break is to peruse my book shelf for inspiration.  I have tons of books that speak to the creative process at all different levels.  I will surf the internet for articles and blogs that speak to the process of creativity or how a person discovered their own unique way of becoming creatively inspired.  One of my favorite things to search for during this mental break are quotes about creativity.   Some make me think a lot.  Some make me laugh.  Some are from famous people, some are not.  Some are from long ago, some are recent.  Some I can’t relate to.  But then there are the handful that somehow start to clear out the cobwebs.  I crawl out of that creative rut and move forward again — until the next one that I find myself in!

Here are some of my favorites quotes that I have found over the years:

The chief enemy of creativity is good sense.  ~Pablo Picasso

Creativity takes courage.  ~Henri Matisse

Creativity is just connecting things.  When you ask creative people how they did something, they feel a little guilty because they didn’t really do it, they just saw something.  It seemed obvious to them after a while.  That’s because they were able to connect experiences they’ve had and synthesize new things.  ~Steve Jobs

Imagination is everything.  It is the preview of life’s coming attractions.  ~Albert Einstein

Creativity is allowing yourself to make mistakes.  Art is knowing which ones to keep.  ~Scott Adams

Doors are for people with no imagination.  ~Derek Landy

We have to continually be jumping off cliffs and developing our wings on the way down.   ~Kurt Vonnegut

Others have seen what is and asked why.  I have seen what could be and asked why not.  ~Pablo Picasso

An essential aspect of creativity is not being afraid to fail.  ~Edwin Land

A new idea is delicate.  It can be killed by a sneer or a yawn; it can be stabbed to death by a quip and worried to death by a frown on the right man’s brow.  ~Charles Brower

Creativity is inventing, experimenting, growing, taking risks, breaking rules, making mistakes, and having fun.  ~Mary Lou Cook

Do any of these “speak” to you?  Do you have a favorite Creativity Quote?

“Squared” Gifts from EtsyChristmasInJuly

Hi!  It’s Rita from HandmadeBits4U once again.

You must be scratching your head wondering what the heck is a “squared” gift.  And why would members of the EtsyChristmasInJuly team be making them!!  First of all, let’s define a square.

According to TheFreeDictionary there are a least 8 different meanings when we talk about the word square as a noun.  It could be a “T-shaped or L-shaped instrument for drawing.”  It could be the “product obtained when a number or quantity is multiplied by itself.”  When used as slang, it could be “a person who is regarded as dull, rigidly conventional, and out of touch with current trends” – this certainly does not apply to our team members by any means!!

One of the more familiar definitions is “something having an equal-sided rectangular form.”  It is this definition that has inspired many of the designs and creations by our team members for their designs and creations – squares can be readily seen in their product photographs!  Here are a few   “Squared” Gifts from our EtsyChristmasInJuly team members – you will find gifts soap, jewelry, face scrubbies, coasters, disc cutters, digital papers, pillows and more!  To find more details about each of these just click here and then click on the item of interest.
