Tell us about yourself and your shop.

I have been heavily influenced by the artists in my family. The poets, writers, potters, painters, dancers and musicians from my past have made a mark on my creative process. I am also a bit of a vagabond, and my husband and I have passed that trait on to our daughters. We consider it remarkable when we have lived in one city for more than 4 years.

I am the ‘mother’ of the mother-daughter team that is Stock Lane Studio. Our cards and prints are partly inspired by the roles we play in our day-today lives. My days as a teacher and worn out young mother needing sleep prompted me to design our ‘quiet’ signs My daughters are older now and soon both will be off in college so we have affordable and inspiring word and photo art that make great dorm and apartment decor. One of my daughters is the artist behind our quirky cards and some watercolor art. All three of us are inspired by our travels, which has resulted in great photography and photo cards.

What is your favorite leadership quote?

One of my favorite authors, Maya Angelou is the source for these 2 quotes that I think relate to the creative souls selling on Etsy:

“You can only become truly accomplished at something you love. Don’t make money your goal. Instead, pursue the things you love doing, and then do them so well that people can’t take their eyes off of you.”

“Ask for what you want and be prepared to get it!”

What leader in your life has most influenced you?

Two leaders have really made an impression on me are my mother and Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

Both women have shown me the importance of a good education, how to listen and think and then choose my words wisely, how to admit to your mistakes and learn from them and to constantly strive to improve the lives of those around me.

What is your greatest leadership skill and how did you attain it?

•Organization: A a single working mother of 7, my mother was super organized and I’ve carried that with me into adulthood, in parenting my own children and with my business. I am still no where near as organized as my mom though and have not yet reached her advanced level of labeling and ordering everything.

•Communication: In a past life I used to be a pretty decent teacher. Throughout the years I have taught a variety of subjects to a variety of age level and nationalities. This has really helped me learn how to communicate.

What leadership skill do you want to achieve and how will you attain it?

I hope to develop greater personal and business confidence and improve my ability to work well with others by interacting with and working with #EtsyCIJ team members. I’m a mild introvert and I like to accomplish things on my own, but a leader doesn’t do everything on her own. I hope to improve my cooperative skills and learn to work better with others (ha!). Leaders need to be able to listen to others, communicate and delegate effectively and have the confidence to implement the right decisions on behalf of the team.
