#CIJPopUpMarket #2 Shop – Emma Kaufmann from StudioEmmaKaufmann

1. What is the name of your shop and where do you look for inspiration?

The name of my shop is Studio Emma Kaufmann.

I must say I am constantly inspired by everything around me. I love to paint all sorts of animals so if I see an animal I like I paint him/her. I also have two guinea pigs at home who are supermodels and who I have painted many times.

2. How has your shop evolved over time?

I started my Etsy shop because it was a convenient and reliable shop front for me to sell my pet portrait commissions. The shop has since evolved to me doing colorful animal designs which are printed on bedding, cushions and home decor which will make your room pop.

3. What do you love most about your work?

Being able to create my own schedule. To be able to work in my pajamas and to be able to do what I love most in the world – to paint!

4. What motivating music do you listen to? Share your playlist that gets and keeps you going!

I usually listen to music that’s very spacey and ambient or has a meditative rhythm.

Air – Pocket Symphony
Daft Punk – Random Access Memories
Kraftwerk – The Man-Machine
Massive Attack – Protection

5. What book are you reading right now and where is your favorite place to read?

At the moment I am reading the non-fiction book Built on Bones by archaeologist Brenna Hassett. She studies human skeletons to discover how people lived 15,000 years ago and why they chose to stay in cities even though it did not seem to be very good for their health. It is absolutely fascinating.

I love to sit outside and read in my garden. I have a little stream at the end of it which bubbles away over the pebbles and is very soothing.
