Chinese New Year

Contributor post by Alicia from AliciasFindings

Chinese New Year for 2016 is the year of the monkey and celebrated on February 8th.
“Monkeys” are witty, intelligent and have a magnetic personality.
The New Year is celebrated by wishing for profits and success.

Here at Christmas in July we wanted to know what items you have that relate to the theme and a little about the item.

Woolly Momo from WoollyMomo says I was born in 1980, which was also the year of the monkey!

Red is a very lucky colour within the Chinese culture and is seen everywhere on auspicious occassions and festivals. In London, the China Town is covered in red lanterns above you and red, gift envelopes are handed out to family and friends. It’s always such a great sight and atmosphere, year on year.

Inspired by this, I made this red, chunky knit scarf. It’s always so cold here at this time of year, but people still want to go out and celebrate, so not only is the scarf in keeping with the colour of the theme of this great day, but it will also keep you nice and warm and you join in the fun on the streets!

I made it out of a chunky red wool, which is really soft so feels great against the skin and keeps that cold winter wind out.
