Let’s visit Roses Workshop home

1. What got you started decorating in the manner that you do?

Many people spend Christmas Day, or even the whole week, away from home visiting family, so don’t want to spend a lot of time and money on decorations. But a dark house is an invitation to potential burglars.

2. Where in or outside your house do you decorate?

Generally people hang one or two strings of Christmas tree lights around the inside of the bay window. Some have stained glass windows, others just hang stained glass ornaments for the season. A small Christmas tree on a table in the bay, likewise with lights and maybe some tinsel looks festive while also blocking the view into the room.

3. When do you start decorating?

All these lights can be plugged into a time switch, so they are always on say 3 pm to 11 pm whether you are home or not. Of course some people have many more decorations throughout the house, but from the outside so-one can tell. Also our older residents can manage this style without too much climbing onto ladders.

The whole street looks lovely from about mid-December, and it’s hard to tell who’s home and who’s not.

4. How does where you live influence your decorating?

It’s windy here by the sea, so putting anything outdoors is not a great idea, especially if you won’t be around to repair any damage. However, the houses in this street have large bay windows, so most people concentrate their efforts here.
