1. What got you started decorating in the manner that you do?

I have an eclectic style of decorating. I don’t go all-out but I put a few things out that I have collected or been given over the years. Even as kids, the tree went up but we did not do a lot of holiday decorating. A little red and green here and there and the tree.

2. Where in or outside your house do you decorate?

The decorating usually starts in the living room with the tree and the village that goes underneath. I love the look of a natural tree but prefer my artificial tree for sustainability – and it’s pretty much paid for itself over the last 10 years. The decorations then expand into the kitchen and then outside with a wreath and some poinsettia. I live in an apartment so I can only do so much outside decorating.

3. When do you start decorating?

When my kids were little, the tree went up the day after Thanksgiving, sometimes that very day. But as teenagers, the date has been pushed back. This year it will probably go up about 2 weeks from Christmas.

4. How does where you live influence your decorating?

We live in New England and the weather has been unusually warm this year. That may be what is influencing the lack of decorating spirit this year. We are focusing on ways to help others during this holiday season, though. There are many people who need help when the wind really starts to blow around here.
