Tell us about yourself.
Native new yorker…loves fashion, art and photography.
When did you open your business and what make you decide to do so?
Opened madmaxshop on ETSY in 2012 upon realizing the demand for vintage had increased. New York is a great city and it is an ultimate resource for the finest in vintage fashion and accessories.
Tell us a bit about your products.
The items in madmaxshop are for that special vintage customer who loves to find that classic, unique, one-of-a-kind piece that cannot be found anyplace else.
What inspires your work?
Fashion has always been the main source of inspiration…past and current trends.
What are your future goals for the business this year? What is your dream for this business?
Hopefully to exceed in the quantity of sales this year well into the next holiday season…incorporate more unique and classic items to help emphasis the brand.
What makes your business stand out from businesses that sell similar products?
At this time all of the shop’s items are authentic, true to their vintage decade and in great condition…customer’s reviews have been excellent and they really appreciate the vintage quality.
Tell us a bit about your work space. Do you have a separate studio?
The work space is of a sufficient size to accommodate a daily workflow…vintage items are reviewed, rated and photographed paying full attention to quality and detail. This studio, of course, is supervised by Tony, our one-of-a- kind 15 pound Ginger Tabby.
What have you learned since opening your business that you wish you had known before hand?
Selling online at times has its disadvantages…you really need to have open communication with your prospective customers. Every question they have is very important and you need to keep that level of communication open on a daily basis. Not responding in a sufficient amount of time may lead to the loss of a hopeful sale.
Any advice for those thinking about selling on Etsy?
Try to concentrate on creating that special look and feel for your shop…branding is very important. Customers will remember your vintage offerings and you will make them feel comfortable with their purchases. Go that extra yard…include a branded thank you card or small gift item in your shipments.
When you’re not working, what do you like to do to unwind and have fun? Do you have any hobbies?
Support local bands in the community…attend shows and photograph performances.
What is your favorite quote?
“If you see something that moves you, and then snap it, you keep a moment.” – Linda McCartney
Where can people find out more about your business?
Is there anything else you’d like to share?
TEAM SUPPORT…it is very important to incorporate into your “shop day” participation in team activities. Team activities are fun…they help keep you informed and educated about the social media world. By contributing to your teammates’ posts you might in turn acquire that special new customer.
