Tell us about yourself

My husband and I recently moved to Las Cruces, NM from Seattle, WA and just love the rugged beauty of living in the country here. Nature’s Purity Bath is our full time job.H

When did you open your business and what make you decide to do so?

We began making glycerin soaps back in 2011 because my family has skin issues and I was looking for a natural way to help ease some of my son’s eczema. Once we began it was so much fun being creative, which until then I did not think I had a creative bone in my body. We became hooked on how much better our products were compared to store bought soaps we decided to make a career out of it. It has been a long learning process that has been well worth it. We have moved on from glycerin soaps to cold process as well as many other bath and beauty products.

Tell us a bit about your products

We make hand crafted soaps, scrubs, lotions, cosmetics and so much more using the finest natural ingredients we can. Our cold process soaps are made in small batches to ensure freshness and quality.Scrub

What inspires your work?

A lot of our work is inspired by the beauty of nature. Living in Seattle we had natural beauty everywhere. Now that we live here in the country in Las Cruces we are inspired by a whole different kind of beauty of the old west. We are also inspired to create the most natural and healthful products because store bought products contain more chemicals than healthy ingredients.

What are your future goals for the business this year? What is your dream for this business?

This year we are planning on doing several festivals and shows in the Southern New Mexico area to spread the word of our products. We dream that years from now we will have our own storefront where we can set up shop.

What makes your business stand out from businesses that sell similar products?

We are a husband and wife team which means we both make and sell our products. We find this to be unique from many other businesses that make hand crafted soaps. We also strive to use the freshest and most healthy ingredients in our products so the consumer benefits.BB

Tell us a bit about your work space. Do you have a separate studio?

We create all our products at home but have a whole section of our house dedicated to soap making. Our rec room and two of our three bedroom house is dedicated to our business.

Where can people find out more about you and your business?

We have a website located at www.naturepuritybath.com.

Why do you believe people should buy handmade, such as your products, vs buying mass-produced products from box stores?

Our products use only the freshest natural ingredients possible. Store bought products contain harsh chemicals which counteract the healthy ingredients leaving your skin feeling dull and dry.Make

What have you learned since opening your business that you wish you had known before hand?

We really researched all aspects of what we do before we started selling our products so I feel we went into this with our eyes wide open. However, there are always unexpected things that surprise us now and then so as with everything in life – we learn as we go.

Any advise for those thinking about selling on Etsy?

Research first. Have a good understanding of what you do and what the market is like and what your competitors offer. Learn the legalities of your business before starting. Most of all take it one day at a time and don’t sweat the small stuff. Have a passion for what you do!

When you’re not working, what do you like to do to unwind and have fun? Do you have any hobbies?

Soap making is my hobby. Other than that I spend time with my husband. We love traveling although we do not get to do much of that lately.P

What is your favourite quote?

I don’t really have one.
